Fantasy The School of Aftermath

"Tell me about your family, unless that's too personal." Aura said, eyes wandering around the hallway they were travelling in. She never liked talking about the 'family' topic, but it intrigued her to know about other people's backgrounds.

"No, its not to personal. Well I guess I can start with my family life is boring for I have lived with both my parents for 16 whole years, and nothing out of the ordinary has come. Its the same thing one day and same day the next, my family is routine." Simon saw her looking around, maybe trying to avoid the section. "All in all quite boring, don't you agree?".

"Hm, if you think so. I'd rather have your family life than my current one." Auralee responded, sighing a bit. Her family life was alright, better than some, worse than others. Her mother died from a sickness during the war, and her dad has changed a lot due to that. He's intimidating and angry all the time, he used to never be that way. Aura shrugs a bit at her thoughts, quickly dismissing them.

Simon knew better then to ask, and he remained quiet for some time as they walked. After turning some corners, and heading down two flights of stairs, that had reached the gymnasium. He opened the door and allowed Aura in first, then he followed. "Wow, its huge." Simon wasn't one for sports so gyms didn't fascinate him, but he wanted to impress Aura somehow. "Not to shabby for an old run down school huh?".

"Yeah," Auralee said, looking at all of her surroundings. "It's pretty cool." She didn't really mind sports but she really likes the sport of basketball, yet if there were any teams she wouldn't try out anyways. She would've been way too shy, and way too scared that she would mess up in front of everyone. Auralee is a quick little girl, she could run pretty fast, and she's actually decent at basketball as well. She used to play with her brother all the time.

There was a rack of different types of balls and sports equipment, he picked up a basketball. He tossed it towards the goal, but missed by a long shot, "Well there goes my chance to impress you." Simon gave her a smile. He tried again, but the same outcome, "Yep, not getting a second tour.". Simon sat down, but not before handing her a ball. "Give it a shot Aura.".

Aura giggled and awkwardly held the ball. She was worried, but Simon missed a couple times on his try and he didn't seem phased, so she shouldn't be phased. She relaxed from her stiff position and started bouncing the ball. Aura was confident right now and she better not miss it, which would send her back into a nervous and shy state. She threw the ball, aiming for the square of the backboard, and the basketball went in with a perfect swish. Auralee smiled to herself, then looked toward Simon.

Simon began a awestruck cough, "Uhm well, uhm, you have officially embarrassed me." Simon gave a smile back to her. "What other skills do you have? Can you also play football better then me?". This girl was full of surprises and Simon was beginning to feel himself like this girl. She was a little shy, but it was cute, and she was starting to open up anyway.

Auralee giggled. "No no no, basketball is the only sport that interests me. But if you'd like we could play football, I'm sure I'm not too good at any other sport besides basketball."

She grabbed another basketball and threw it. It went around the rim and Aura worried that it would fall off, but it went through the basket. She smiled again, and decided to stop showing off and see what talents Simon has, besides his communication. He's very good at talking to people, plus he's a bit of a flirt.

"Well if basketball interests you then lets make a bet." Simon had his ace in the whole now, she probably knew this already, but he was a complete flirt. He walked over to the girl, and put his hands in his pockets, "If you make it from here again then we do what you want, but if you miss then we do what I want. I was going to ask for a kiss on the cheek, but that wouldn't have gone over too well.". Simon laughed, "So sound good?".

Auralee laughed then nodded. "Alright, deal. Although, I wouldn't mind if I had to give you a kiss on the cheek." She said, trying her hand at flirting. It wasn't her strongest suit, but she did it once in a while. Bouncing the ball a few times, she threw it up in the air, not with much thought. The ball goes around the rim like before, but instead of going in the basket, it falls out. "Oops, I guess you won the bet!" Aura announced, winking at Simon.

"Can I still redeem that kiss then?" Simon laughed, half-kidding half-hoping. "If you don't want to give me the kiss, well we could head to the library, I could do with a new book.". He watched the ball bounce away, wondering if she had even tried. He giggled to himself at the thought of Aura trying to get a kiss just by faking the attempt.

Auralee smiled and gave him a short peck on the cheek and walked out of the gymnasium. "Where to next?" She asked, looking behind herself to meet eyes with Simon. That scene at the gym was very nice and Aura was content. Giggling to herself, she felt like a little 10 year old, wanting to skip along and sing. She controlled herself though, as the major part of her personality is shy and self-conscious. Aura was comfortable around Simon, she didn't care of what he thought of her and she felt like she could be herself around him.

Simon flushed red, he placed his hand on the spot and smiled. And you thought you lost your charm. He met eyes with her and tried to hide his rosy cheeks, "Anywhere you want to go, you can lead this time.". He walked a little fast to meet up with the girl, "Take me wherever your heart desires.".

Ajax saw them off, then sat back down in his chair. He smiled at Skye, "So how are you?" Asking the most frequent question to ever come out of his mouth. 'Stupid, that's how you're doing bud.' His conscious replied.

"Okay, follow me." Aura said, trying to find the nearest stairwell. She wanted to head up to the roof of the school, she felt that would be a nice sight, despite all of the ruins and the murky air. The sky was finally returning blue after it was a pitch black due to weaponry smoke and fires. She wanted to see the new sky that was light blue with pretty clouds that made animal shapes, as she read in the books. She had read a book called 'The Fault in Our Stars', and the girl would sit outside looking at the stars. Auralee wanted to do that. She lead him up flights of stairs until she got up to the roof.

"Yes ma'am." Simon allowed her to lead him, not caring where they went. When they reached the roof however he got awfully nervous, heights being one of his downfalls. "Uhm, nice spot you picked." His voice was nervous, and anyone could tell, "Why the roof?". Simon tugged on his collar, he was hot for no reason, most likely from his fear of falling. He cleared his throat, staring out to the sky, trying not to focus on the edge of the roof.

Auralee turns around to face Simon, smiling at the view. "Are you okay?" She says, stepping towards him. He seemed a bit nervous up here. Is the cool, flirty kid scared of heights? Aura giggled a bit then calmed down, not wanting to make him feel bad. She grabbed his hand softly. "You'll be fine," She added on. "Just admire the view, don't be scared of it. Isn't it pretty?"

"I am fine, just a little nervous with such a beautiful girl." This was a complete lie, for the only thing making Simon nervous was the 3 story drop. When she took her hand though, all the nervousness faded. "Thanks Aura. Which view should I admire." Simone returning to his normal self, "I am having a hard time getting my eyes off you.". Simon was looking at her, then back at the sky, hoping she didn't take it the wrong way.

Auralee laughed and blushed a bit at his comments, then pointed to a cloud. "That's shaped like a wolf. Do you think so?" She said, eyes lighting up. Wolves were her favorite animal.

"Little bit of a scraggy tail on it, but I see the wolf." He then pointed to another, "What about that one, looks an awful lot like a rabbit.". Simon didn't mind this at all, it was actually relaxing and a better time then just sitting in a classroom.

"It does. But if you look at it differently, it looks like a duck." Auralee said, turning her head in different angles. This was very calming, and what made it even better was being here with Simon. She thought he was kind of cute and she secretly loved the flirting.

"Oh really?" He turned his head, not knowing it would land gently on hers, he straightened up fast. "Uhm, I'm sorry." Simon tried to look back at the clouds. Simon was easy to flirt, but was lost when it came to physical things Simon was lost.

"Oh! It's fine." Auralee said, blushing a bit. Checking the time on her mom's watch, she noticed it was getting late and the teacher might be teaching now. She hit her forehead with her hand, not wanting to be late on her first day of school. She wanted to leave a great impression on teachers. She stared at the watch for a second. Her mom owned it since before the war, and handed it down to Aura when she was sick. She told Aura to take care of it, and all this time she did. Auralee stood up. "We should get back to class!"

"Anywhere you go I'll be there too." Smiling at the girl. "Think the teacher will finally be there?". They began walking, the class was just a few turns from the stairs. In a few moments they were at the door.
