She frowned “do you know who it was?” She asked him quietly, frowning at his monitors as they sent off a couple of alarms. “Noah? Honey breathe.” She coaxed, trying to stay calm.

Lucas scoffed a little. “So I was left completely open to being kidnapped…. How the fuck am I supposed to choose between parents who raised me but stole me and parents who were reckless enough to let me kidnapped?” He muttered, getting up and starting to head out the front door.

Noah took deep breaths trying to calm himself but it was still painful. He looked at her scared and squeezed her hand tightly "Nurse.....get nurse..." he wheezed.

Max frowned deeply and stood up as he went to leave "Don't go please...listen I know this is a shit situation but atleast for until Carmen gets back, stay here. You're not safe out there alone."

She nodded and quickly pressed the call button repeatedly, stepping out of the way when they rushed in, feeling the panic rise when after just a couple more minutes the alarms were going off again but this time showing that his heart had stopped and she tried to stop them from making her leave.

He grit his teeth but agreed and went to sit down while she called Carmen and frowned, messing on his phone a little, tensing as he noticed two guys staring at him from down the hallway, both of them muttering to each other.

Ricky was hanging around the room to make sure he stayed put and frowned seeing Vinny and will staring at him “Knock it off. Both of you…. You both knew the day would come where you weren’t the youngest.” He muttered.

Max called Carmen but frowned when she got no answer. She sent a quick text to let her know Lucas was safe and they'd watch him until she got back before turning her attention back to him "Pay no mind to them." She said gently once she saw the two of them scurry off "Their our youngests and are immature at times. Can I get you something to eat or drink?"

A nurse escorted her out of the room ams gave a sympathetic look to her "I'm sorry ma'am, its policy that we have to have the room to ourselves." She explained before running back into the room.

She stood close by still, desperately trying to see through every time someone came in or out of the room, finally calling back max and gritting her teeth. “Get him down here. Now…. But you keep your mate and that mongrel thing away.” She spat down the line, shaking badly and finally hu g up when they came out to talk to her.

Lucas looked up and frowned when he heard his moms voice on the other end of the phone, getting up when max said she would take him down to the hospital. “What’s going on? She sounded like she was crying.” He frowned, further confused when she stopped rickg from going with them.

Max frowned deeply as she quickly got Lucas ready and frowned when Ricky tried to join "No, I got this okay? I promise." She murmured before gave a small sigh when he insisted that he atleast take her up there and stay back in the car.

The nurses came out a few minutes later to usher Carmen back into the room "We got him stable, but he's on a ventilator and medical sedation. We want him to be at complete rest so that he can heal."

Lucas frowned still freaking out the whole way up, feeling like he was being split in two right now.

Ricky frowned as he parked. “Be careful. Don’t engage with her. Just hand Lucas over and come back.” He told her quietly

She nodded and thanked her quietly, going to sit next to him, holding his hand tightly and trying to keep it together, failing miserably.

Max gave a small nod and led Lucas up to the room giving a small sigh. She stood at the doorway watching as he ran in and held onto his mother. She knew she'd never have that with him, but she still hoped they could have some sort of relationship

She frowned and quickly caught him, holding him tightly and kissed his head. “I know…. Listen I know that you’re mad at him right now I do but…. In case this is the last chance you get… I wanted you to have a chance to talk to him even if he can’t talk to you.” She murmured, kissing his cheek. “I’ll be right outside okay?” She coaxed, stepping out and glaring at max, the rage threatening to spill out. “Are you seeing what your mate did to him?! If he had just fucking asked him the questions he would have answered you!”

Max frowned deeply and shook her head softly "He did, and he didn't answer." She said quietly before sighing softly "Lucas is welcome at anytime to come see us if he so chooses."

“You wanna run that by me again?!” She spat, grabbing her by the shoulders and shoving her against the wall. “Go home. Before I fully lose my temper.” She snapped, letting go and turning to go get a drink before hearing max blame her for the state Noah was currently in as she felt a switch flick, this time grabbing her by the throat and letting heat build in her palm

"You're a witch....you should have been able to save him." She muttered under her breath as she walked away. She gasped when she felt Carmen's hands wrap around her throar and went wide eyed as she felt the heat start to sear her neck.

Lucas came out wanting to see his Mom but went wide eyed at the scene before him "Mom stop it!!" He yelled as he rushed to pull her off of Max watching as she collapsed onto the floor "You can't kill her! Please Mom stop!" He begged seeing an unfamiliar rage burning in Carmen's eyes.

She glared at her on the floor and shook her head. “I am fully aware of the reputation I’ve garnered as a healer. But do not mistake that as my destiny.” She snarled at her, turning to go back into the room with Lucas, hearing her mate coming to pick her up and having to stop herself from going out to him as well.

Ricky had felt the white hot pain travel around his throat and had immediately jumped out the car, rushing inside and going to find her, frowning at how oblivious the staff were to max on the floor, gently picking her up and carrying her back to the car. “Hey hey I got you… what did I tell you? Drop him off and come back.” He muttered frowning.

Max frowned as she walked back with him to the car "I know....I know." She said, her voice hoarse now as the held her throbbing throat.

Lucas gave a heavy sigh as he went back into the room with Carmen. He stared at Noah frowning deeply "Is he going to die?" He asked quietly

She shook her head and sank into a chair. “I don’t know…. It was a simple job. He should be home right now and you should be studying for herbs…. Not this mess…. He may be a hunter but he is human. I have tried to convince him to take on another life but he won’t budge on it.” She muttered, not really speaking to Lucas but just thinking out loud. “Lucas I need you to go with the pack…. Look at me…. I… to keep him alive I made some deals…. And those deals are going to need to be upheld on my end… and you should not be around me for this.” She warned him, “if you want I will stay with you tonight for the first shift but otherwise you should be with the pack.” She told him gently.

He frowned and shook his head, getting her in the car and sighed heavily seeing the handprint shape burn on her throat. “You got lucky. It’s just superficial.”

Lucas frowned deeply and thought about it for a moment "I think....I think it might be better if I shift with them...they'll know how to help me too.." he said quietly while looking at the ground.

Max nodded softly amd gave a heavy sigh "The full moon is tonight....you think its okay to leave him here on his first shift?"

He frowned and shook his head. “I don’t think he’s gonna stay…. When are you going to start listening to me?” He muttered frowning at her. “Cause I’m sure I told you to drop him off and get out of there. Instead you help instigate her…. Don’t do that again.” He muttered.

Carmen nodded and hugged him tightly, kissing the top of his head. “You want me for anything at all you call me okay? If you need stuff from home get them to drop you at least a couple hundred feet from the drive so you can get inside okay? Whatever you decide Lucas will be the right decision.” She smiled a little. “And whatever makes you happy, makes me happy.” She wanted him to do what was best for him in the end, even if it meant losing hkm

Lucas frowned softly and hugged her tightly "You'll always be my mother, I won't leave you." He whispered before he left to go catch Max and Ricky.


Max sighed heavily and didn't say a word just nodded softly. She turned her head when she heard yelling and couldn't help but smile softly seeing Lucas coming out towards them.

She watched him go and moved her chair closer to the bed, squeezing Noah’s hand tightly before gently massaging first his left then his right arm, talking to him the whole time.

Lucas got in the back of the car and frowned, staring out the window. “Only because she can’t help me through my first shift like you guys can… and you should know that it was her idea.” He muttered

Max gave a small nod and sighed softly "We'll make sure you're comfortable." She said softly before they went on back to the pack house. Once they were there she went up to the back yard and started to set up a safe space for him to make his shift comfortable.

It was getting late into the evening by the time they got back and Lucas was certainly feeling it, struggling to move and having to lean on Ricky to get outside, ending up with him being carried over to the spot they had made for him, sweating like crazy and feeling like every bone in his body was about to snap. He wasn't expecting to regret his decision but they still had half an hour to go Ricky had said and he just wanted his Mom there.

Max sat with him dabbing at his forehead gently with a cool rag as he made his way through everything. She looked at Ricky with saddened eyes when Lucas asked for his mother and sighed softly "We can call her if you'd like. Its going to be okay, you're doing a great job." She said softly to him.

Ricky frowned, not having expected it to be so difficult to watch him go through it and nodded when Lucas asked to talk to her, giving maxs shoulder a squeeze. It felt like such a relief to have him there after all the years of grief but he knew it hurt max a little every time he referred to Carmen as his mom.

Carmen frowned as her phone rang but answered and spoke to ricky for a minute then waited til she heard his voice on the other end. “Hey sweetheart. Rick says you’re doing so good…. Remember how we practiced? You gotta tell me tomorrow what color you get.” She smiled a little. “Lucas baby you got this. Just a little longer okay? I’m so proud of you.”

Lucas smiled some as he heard his mom's voice and nodded "I love you Mom." He said quietly before dropping the phone and yelling out in pain as his bones started to noticably shift.

Max saw his bones and quickly got him laying down taking his hands in hers "Deep deep breaths okay? Its about to happen, you've got this okay?" She told him quietly

Ricky nudged max to go take her shift so he didn’t accidentally hurt her, taking her place so that if he lashed out it was ricky that got caught, continuing to coax him through it until a small black wolf lay in front of him, picking the phone off the ground “He’s done it… I’ll get him to call you tomorrow. I promise.” He told Carmen but quickly hung up and took the shift himself, stepping close to Lucas and instinctually cleaning him up, nudging him gently to try and get him to stand up.

Carmen sighed in relief once she heard Rick reassure her he would call tomorrow, hanging up as well and turned her attention back to moah.
