Realistic or Modern The Roadtrip

It had been a few hours of driving, when we decided to stop at a rest stop to stretch our legs and explore this small town for a bit. We were somewhere in Oklahoma, on our way to New Mexico. It was desert land around us, a small gas station/diner, and a bathroom type installment that had disgusting showers that I refused to use. I would much rather wash my hair in the sink. The perks of having short hair.

"I'm starving," I muttered to myself as we all stepped off the bus. I was last, locking it up and heading into the small diner with the others. "I wonder if the foods any good..." There was one small family in here, probably on a road trip, and the rest were bikers or truckers. My friends and I looked so out of place. We had your typical blonde, sweetheart, the two crazy friends who could never seem to sit still, the goofball, and the gamer. I liked to consider myself the "leader" of our little group, although I'm sure many would disagree.

"Are you British?"

Good god! The little girl almost gave me a heart attack! She came out of nowhere. "What?" I questioned, still staring at the menu that was hung on the wall, hardly glancing at her. "I'm Australian." The little girl looked clueless, and just kept staring at me with her big, blue eyes. I let out a low whistle, and shook my head. It was a little creepy if you asked me. Nothing here seemed appealing to me, as it was all burgers and ribs. I was a vegetarian, so I stuck with just grabbing a bag of chips and a candy bar for my snack. I was sure one of my friends would risk trying the showers here, but I wasn't. I'd go wash my face and stick my head in the faucet, but I wasn't getting under that shower head.

I paid for gas, and headed back out to the bus to fill it up while my crew got all they needed. I tossed my chips and soda onto the front seat, then started to fill it up. These buses took a lot of gasoline, and it was killing me in money, but I could get by till we got to Cali. We could each find jobs for the summer when we got there, and if they wanted to rent a hotel, that was all on them. I was quite fine with staying in the bus. It was cozy. When I was done filling up the tank, I took a look at the scenery before going to get back on the bus to wait for everyone. This was my favorite part about dusk, the red and yellows, and the sandy orange. It was just breath taking.

But that's also a little too sappy for my taste, so I shook it off and hopped back on the bus. Soon, we would be off towards New Mexico!

(Sorry this was so late! Also, I'm not American so I apologise in advance if I get anything incorrect.)

Jessica "Jessie" Cooke

Jessie entered the diner adjoining the gas station along with her friends. The smell of greasy chips and BBQ ribs wafted up her nose as she followed behind. The diner today was filled predominantly with bikers and truckers, and merely a single family consisting of a handful of children, a mother and a father. As Jessie approached the counter, she ran her fingers back through her dyed, red hair as she glanced at the menu.

Eventually settling for a simple chicken and chips takeaway meal, plus a can of Diet Coke, Jessie purchased her food and left the diner with a single glance at the large family sitting by a window, attempting to be as subtle as possible. She stole a glimpse at the small, confined-looking shower block. Even the outside looked grubby and run-down. Figuring that they would probably stop by somewhere else, Jessie moved on, towards the bus they were staying in--and using in order to drive around the states, of course!

"Heya, Ronnie," said Jessie as she approached the bus after a short distance. She stepped up into the vehicle, once she took a glance of her reflection in the wind mirror. She was wearing a relatively plain outfit, consisting of a blue tee-shirt, black skinny jeans with a belt for accessory purposes and a pair of red converse.

George leaned on the side of the bus , stretching his legs after driving the group the group the whole way so shin was aching as a result of a lot of clutching. He didn't mind it, made a change from the constant headaches and he found the focus that came with the driving got his mind away from thing, being around his friends helped also. He watched the other go into the diner and he didnt follow for the moment, reaching into his pocket and taking out bottle of strong ibuprofen and took it with some water he was carrying. He took a deep breath and saw Ronnie walk out after paying for gas, no surprise it dint look like a place she would eat. "Hey, what do i owe you for the gas? Cant have you pay it all by yourself."He said forcing his usual smile.

Leo exited the busy and observed his surroundings, it seemed like one of those diner slash gas stations that are usually run down and gross. So he entered the gas station with the others and immediately headed to the bathroom, relieving himself and fixing his hair for about 7 seconds and exiting the bathroom right after. Leo then headed to get some food, he glanced at the menu and decided to get bacon with a club sandwich and ordered the same for Skylar, afterwards he took both meals and paid it, and left the diner.

Heading into the bus he sat down and left one of the boxes of food aside for Skylar to grab whenever she wants it, he then looked around the bus and saw George saying, "You know, I could take over and drive so you can rest up man.", he said this smiling because chances are George will say no, the guy loves to drive. After saying that he opened one of the boxes of food, immediately going straight for the bacon, it tasted like any other bacon you have ever eaten, no one can really make bacon taste gross to begin with.

Caden entered the diner and the smell of delicious food hit her in the nose hard. "This food better be as good as it smells..." She said shoving her hands inside her joggers as she walked over to the order here part of the diner and ordered herself a bacon cheese burger along with some fries and a drink. "Hmmm...what song to play now..." She mumbled to herself before picking Mrs. Robinson by Lemonheads and sat down closing her eyes as the song flowed through her ears. After three more songs went by her order was ready and she stood up walking over grabbing the bag and making sure everything was correct. She thanked the lady and left the diner getting back on the bus. She sat down in her little corner and was a about to eat when she heard small paws quickly run over to her direction. She shoot her head chuckling and looking down at the gray blue eyed pit that was her pup Tooki. "It's funny how when I left you were asleep but when I come back you are wide awake for the food...you fatty..." She told him and laughs when he barked at her. She unwrapped her burger and took a strip of bacon out giving it to him which he gladly took. "Hey nicht essen zu schnell kleine Welpe" She said as he trotted away with the strip in his mouth.

She took out her Surface Pro 3 and went on the internet then started to watch this tv show called Queer As Folk. She was always into the homosexual things and thought it was just so freaking cute. She took a bite of her burger and completely blocked everyone else out. She was still on season one and really wanted complete this whole series so she can get started on Once Upon a Time and maybe some anime shows as well. She has been busy this whole school year and has had no time for herself. Now on this road trip to Cali with her besties she plans to get as much stuff done before it's off to becoming an adult and having responsibilities.

Skylar looked up from her phone when she realized that they stopped at a gas station with a small restaurant inside. She stood up and stretched, then proceeded off of the bus. The first place she went to was the bathroom--after relieving herself she looked in the mirror and fixed herself up, toying with her hair and making sure her makeup was still good.

She left the bathroom and walked to the bus at a slow pace. Once she got onto the bus, Skylar smiled at the sight of a take-out box beside Leo. "Aww, thank you Leo," she said in an irritating sweet voice. She chuckled and sat down, opening the box and eating her sandwhich.

Skylar loves this. She loves traveling with her friends, there is nothing she'd rather be doing. She smiles and turns her head, looking out the window.

Milo walked into the seemingly rundown diner sporting his signature blue plaid shirt with a navy blue shirt underneath, brand new jeans, jet black converse, and his bullet silver watch on his left wrist. He exercised the routine his father always had him do to improve his observation skills while waiting in line to order. In the corner of the diner there was a typical family: a slightly defined father and a caring mother accompanied by an energetic boy, probably eight or so. From their accent he could tell they were from the south, most likely on a road trip, like himself. He could also see an even younger girl pestering Ronnie, who he assumed belonged to the family. "Are you British?" She inquired. "What? I'm Australian." Ronnie replied, slightly irritable. He couldn't help to shed a smile. On the other side of the diner he counted 13 bikers, all armed with a pistol similar to his. His kept his own Wilson Elite well hidden, so he wasn't worried about them being wary of him. Still, you can never be too careful. Otherwise the only other people occupying the diner is a small handful of truckers sprinkled around. He noticed Leo finished ordering, so he strolled up to the counter and requested the baby back ribs. While he was waiting for his meal he sat in a booth near the family to listen in on why they were in Oklahoma of all places. From what he gathered from their banter they are traveling to San Diego from Florida to visit a relative who is on their deathbed. She apparently had stage 4 brain cancer, and it was starting to act up. Milo sighed internally. 'Way too many people are dying nowadays,' he thought. He reluctantly stood up to fetch his order, then jogged back to the bus. He sat in the back in order to hide himself from the others so they don't notice him pigging out on the ribs. While waiting on their last member to return, Milo took the time to look at what the others were up to. Leo had his arm around Skylar while enjoying a sandwich. Skylar had her hazel eyes focused on something outside. He couldn't tell what it was from the angle he's sitting in. Caden was watching something on her phone with her dog Tooki laying at her feet. 'Probably something to do with yaoi,' he grinned. George was sitting in the drivers seat staring off into space, which isn't unusual for him. Jessie was staring at her reflection trying to fix her scarlet hair. And last but definitely not least, Ronnie was sitting in the front bobbing her head to the music her earbuds were streaming into her ears. Just six months ago, Milo didn't know anyone who he could give the title of "friend" to. Now, he is going on a road trip with seven of them. A dream he never knew he had was now a reality.

Mikey was curled in the bus seat, his face rested in a tiny puddle of drool that had collected on his hand from his open mouth. He was barely asleep, his position in the seat making it difficult for him to get comfortable, but then again he was never able to well in a bed that wasn't his own. When the bus rolled to a stop and his friends began to pile out, his eyes snapped open and he sat up quickly, looking around. He groaned, disgusted with himself, and wiped the drool from his hand on his pant leg. By the time he had situated himself, everyone had already left the bus, leaving him to sigh quietly as he fixed his hair.

The trip so far hadn't been as Mikey anticipated, although they had only been on the road for an hour. Too be fair, everyone was initially excited about the trip, chattering each other's ears off and generally in an amazing mood. But as they began driving, the dull scenery and seemingly never ending highway lulled them into a serene sort of mood. Before long, Mikey had drifted into a light sleep from which he could be easily woken.

Mikey stood and stretched his long legs, the working of the muscles felt good after being curled up in the seat. Stepping off the bus he wrinkled his nose in distaste at the rest stop. The smell of grease made him feel nauseous and he shook his head and went into the bathroom, his first order of business being to wash his face. He nodded at Leo, patting his shoulder as the other boy was exiting the bathroom. A quick glance in the mirror caused an amused laugh to escape him. His hair was all over the place and the side of his face had a light crust that was probably from his saliva. He turned to look at the showers and winced at the appearance. The floor had a layer of grime on it that just screamed disease at Mikey. Luckily, there were still paper towels in the dispenser, so he grabbed a few and wet them under the sink, using them as a towel to wash his face. After throwing them away, he ran a wet hand through his hair and left the bathroom.

Although the food didn't seem appealing to him, he bought a bag of chips and a soda, hoping that it would carry him over. He shot an annoyed glance at the stupid cashier who struggled to find the right coins to give him his change. When the hillbilly finally pushed the money towards him, Mikey snatched it off the counter and stalked out of the store, annoyed. He got back onto the bus, quickly scanning everyone before deciding to sit right next to Caden, who was hunched over her tablet watching some show. Petting the dog gently, he leaned over her shoulder, definitely violating her personal space. "What're you watching?" he asked, an amused smile crept onto his lips.

"It's fine," I told George with a small smile. "I can handle it." I popped in one earbud, hearing the sweet sound of the Foo Fighters. I glanced around the bus and saw everyone was preoccupied with their own devices and sighed. I don't know why but I found this oddly relaxing.

"Are you still going to drive. George?" I asked after hearing Leo offer to drive himself. I could drive as well, but I wasn't very good at it. We'd all probably favor from me not driving. I ripped open my back of Salt and Vinegar chips, and the flavored water I had grabbed and hummed happily to myself as I munched on my chips. It kept bugging me though. I mean, to me the accents were completely distinct, but did I really sound like a Brit to that little girl? What the hell.

"Where should we stop next?" I asked, checking my phone and seeing if there were any cool places along the way. We were headed to New Mexico, so I wanted to see if they had any cool museums or something. "You guys got any ideas?"

Leo sat there with his arm around Skylar, finishing his food with his other hand. Devouring it, he waited for George to respond to his offer. Driving a standard bus is quite easy, clutch and shifting is quite simple once you know how and you pretty much end up doing it automatically while driving without even thinking about it hardly. Leo had eaten all of his bacon and all of his club sandwhich, leaving him with a empty box. Tossing it with a light and precise toss, he threw the box into the garbage and easily got it in.

Caden didn't know that Mikey was right behind him while she was watching her tv show and eating her burger. So when he spoke over her shoulder she let out a yelped then jumped in the spot she was sitting in. After her little jumpscare was done she paused her movie placing her burger in the box and turned to look at him. "Don't scare me like that man..." She told him as she punched him in the arm lightly. "And since you wanted to know so badly Mr. Nosy I'm watching a tv show about the life of gay people and eating a burger..." She told him as she grabbed her burger and took another bite out of it. She looked down to seeing Tooki nibble on Mikey's pants leg as a way of him being mad he scared her. She laughed then gave him another strip of bacon as a thank you. "Thank you for doing that baby but I think I can take it from here" She told Tooki as she looked back at Mickey with her lavender eyes. "So Mikey...did you have a nice hibernation?" She asked a smirk forming on her face. "It's a shame you didn't let me join you...though...after seeing you in your pool of drool...I'm glad I passed this time..."

Skylar laughed when Leo made the shot to the trashcan, "ball is life." With a smile, she continued to gaze out of the window but she was eavesdropping in to everyone's conversations. Out of nowhere, she hears a yelp and flinches, jerking her hands back to her stomach. Skylar rubbed her face and laughed quietly, "jeeze," she said with a faded smile.

She was curled up in the corner of the couch, hogging the whole blanket as she wondered when they were leaving the station. Skylar pulled the blanket up to her face, rubbing the soft material on her nose in slow movements; she was ready to explore this little town, it looked cute from what she saw while they were driving to the gas station.

((this is bad))

"If your sure, ronnie and no, i am not tired yet just needed to stretch the old legs after the constant start stop back at Dellas. I can handle more driving now. "He said casually before smirking slyly at Ronnie as thought came up." Besides i remember the last time you drove, still havent got the dents out of my poor car yet we havent even got out of our driveway then." He added before looking at everyone not helping himself selivate a bit from the food everyone was eating. "You guys let me to temptation, i am going to get a bite to eat. Maybe i will come up to an idea of were to go by then. " He went into the store and bought himself a barbeque chicken wrap, salt and vinegar chips and cold drinks. As he paid he asked the teller for advice of were to go before stepping back were the other were. " There the Frontier City Theme park not far from here if you guys are looking for fun, a water park or the botanical gardens." He suggested before beginning to wolf down the wrap only now realizing how hungry he was.
