The Price of Peace

Phoenix looked a bit shocked when they said they were going out. The notion was exciting, just the two of them. Reaching for the door, Phoenix opened it with a bit of excitement, only to reveal a young girl named Maroin. She was one of the messenger part timers. She almost looked as shocked and Phoenix when the boy almost bumped into her.

"I'm sorry." Phoenix immediately apologize to her, taking a few steps back into the apartment to give themselves space.

Maroin looked like she had been given a start. Her hand was over her heart and she was taking a deep breath. "Phew, that was close." She told him before dropping her hands to her side and opening up her bag. She pulled out a blue envelope and smiled at them, "Good morning and don't worry about it, neither of us are hurt." She told him before holding out the envelope.

Phoenix reached out for it, wrapping his fingers around the large paper folder. "Thank you..." Phoenix was sure Kin would be ecstatic at a missions summoning.

Kin was a bit surprised by Pheo's excitement were waffles his favorite breakfast? The boy almost ran right into the messanger. Kin sighed hearing the boys quick apology. "Morning," the gruff man greeted the girl when she recovered from the shock of almost getting ran over. She had a blue envelope for them, blue ment they had a while so they could still get done what they needed.

Kin took the envelope and thanked her. Kin was a bit more then ready for an assignment he hoped it was a good mission a long one he needed the exercise. However he also hoped it would give him time to learn more about his partners style. Only a short time together had not taught him all he felt he needed to learn.

Phoenix looked up to Kin when he just took the envelope from him. He guessed he really wanted it. He wasn't going to argue, as he would proububly take far too long to read over the information. Pheo could never tell if his slow ways were getting on Kin's nerves. Sometimes he seemed impatient, but when Pheo asked he would get upset for thinking he was being impatient... It was confusing to say the least .

"Well, I have a few more to deliver, good luck." Maroin said almost a bit chipper before meandering over a couple doors down and knocking on it. It took a few more minutes for someone to open the door, but they did. Phoenix turned to look back to Kin, he was not sure if they boy already started to leave him because he was busy staring off into space.

Turning, Phoenix started his way to the elevator. He pressed the button once, patient and quietly waited for it to arrive. Though if Kin wanted to take the stairs, Phoenix would follow him. "Did you want to read it before we go?" Walking and reading wasn't healthy, someone could get hurt. Phoenix was more thinking Kin could trip. Though he wondered what a tripping Kin would be like... would he just fall flat on his face.. or would he catch himself half way down?

"Try not to trip." Phoenix said after his thought's crossed his mind. He wanted to see a tripping Kin... but he didn't want Kin to trip. It was a weird combination of feelings.

Kin pocketed the envelope in his jeans and went to make his way to the elevator till stopping to look back at the dazed Pheo. He was about to get the boys attention before Pheo seemed to startle himself out of his trance and make his way to Kin. He asked about the letter and Kin pulled it back out. "Might as well read it now," he said opening the envelope and reading as he walked.

Pheo again went into one of his thought filled states then out of nowhere told him not to trip. "I won't," Kin said though Pheo's sudden question made him stumble a bit as he stepped on his own foot trying to finish his step. The man got into the elevator to finish reading it trusting pheo to hit the buttons.

Phoenix gasped and almost went wide eyed when he watched Kin stumbled. Oddly.... he was disappointed and relieved at the same time. Surely Kin wouldn't actually tip? Would it happen when he least expected it? Pheo felt himself almost staring intently at Kin that he almost forgot to get into the elevator with him. He squeezed through the doors before they closed, turning to look at the keys. The cafferetrea is on the second floor... but the lobby and exit is on the first. He pushed the 1 button and it lit up under his finger before the elevator lurched downward.

The mission was a investigation, which meant they may stay more the one day at their destination. Building were being burned down by what could only be magic. It was speculated that a magician of some kind is most likely involved. Whoever it was had burned down several buildings, killing a good portion of people. It was possible more than one person was involved.

The elevator finally dinged, the doors opening to the lobby. There were a few teams talking to the people at the desk, some of them looked rough. Possibly coming back from a mission. This time Phoenix tried not to stare and started to walk straight away to the entrance. He was sure he could ask Kin more about the mission when he really sat down and read it. Right now he had a feeling he was just skimming it.

Kin felt Pheo's stares but he did not call the boy out on it. In fact Kin liked the fact Pheo was looking at him it ment he wasn't looking at anyone else. Such possessive thoughts woud likely get the man in trouble. When Pheo finally got into the elevater and pressed the button for the first floor Kin handed him the letter to read over as they descended. He had decided they should get some week worth of traveling supplies for the mission, mostly just convinent items like toilet tissue trail mixes and travel sized toiletries.

Kin pat Pheo's shoulder. "Anyplace you like to eat?" he asked distracting the boy so he wouldn't stare off into space like normal. Kin did fairly think the boy would attract the wrong attention one day and the thought made him unneasy.

Phoenix's mind almost made it to lala land, but was pulled out by Kin's hand. Kin patted him on his shoulder, immediately gaining Phoenix's attention. His eyes drifted from around the area up to Kin's face. Kin had an expression that Phoenix was not entirely sure about. Although he vowed not to use his powers... he didn't have control over it if their skin accidently touched. Phoenix was curious...

Gently Phoenix smiled and took hold of Kin's hand with his own. His fingers caress calloused hands. It seriously only lasted a moment, but the moment much longer than it should have since Phoenix was rather slow about things.

Finally Phoenix's hand let go of Kin's after he was done analyzing the emotion he was feeling. Sure there was a lot, but the main one was worry. Why was he worried for him? At the moment, there was nothing to worry about. Phoenix didn't want the man worrying about him, so he smiled at him before speaking up, "Don't worry. I'm going to be ok." He told him. Though it dawned on him that Kin will have no idea why he said that. It had nothing to do with the conversation before hand. In fact, he may suddenly seem like a mind reader.

Phoenix realized he needed to move the subject on, or more like back on pace. "There is a small place.. next to the store." He started to answer Kin's question, for once a bit quickly. "It is good." He promised Kin. With that he started his way to the door, opening it and walking outside. He stopped and remained holding it open for Kin to walk through politely.

Kin let the boy lock their hands and it was a nice feeling but a bit confusing too. "Pheo?" the boy pulled away and smiled declairing he'd be ok. Kin raised a brow in confusion what did his wellbeing have to do with waffle places? He saw the slow boys face contort quickly to almost spastic realization. However when Pheo told him a place he nodded and followed him.

"I trust you," Kin told pheo simply. He chuckled when Pheo opened the door for him how odd it was since normaly Kin opened the doors. "Thank you," he told Pheo when he walked through and wordlessly waited for Pheo to again begin their way to the place to eat. He half wondered why they didn;t go out alot.

Phoenix was ok with a slow walking pace. Even though Kin handed him the paper, he hadn't looked at it, he just slipped it into a coat pocket. He wasn't going to walk and read... which brought his mind back to Kin tripping. What if Kin tripped, but then did a really cool roll, getting back up on his feet again. Phoenix bit his bottom lip thinking about it. What if, he tripped and some how twisted mid turn and landed on his back? He sucked in a soft breath of air. Falling flat on his face sounded a bit more plausible. Would he have a red mark over his face? Pheo let out a soft smile imagining kissing it better.

Eventually, the passed the store and walked a block further to a nice place called the 'Lunch Box'. It was not all that big, but it had a hommy feeling to it. The breakfast menu was on the outside of the shop, they had a wide variety of things to get. Phoenix however stopped to point out the waffle special on the board to Kin with a smile.

Kin walked silently the silance was a comfortable one and he was not bothered by it. He slid his hands in his pants pocket and watched Pheo to make sure the kid wouldn't walk into anyone as dazed as he seemed. What was he thinking? Kin found himself being a bit dazed in thought having to snap himself out of it so he didn't run into anything.

Kin looked seeing the place Pheo spoke of. "Lunch Box" what an odd name, However he had to grin when Pheo pointed to the waffle special on the chalkboard menu. "I see," he said simply he ruffled Pheo's hair "Lets get seated then." he said and looked insode the store homey and warm it wasn't a bad atmoshpere at all.

Phoenix nodded and followed Kin into the establishment. Kin would always open the door for him and hold it. It was just what he did. Pheo was even small enough just to fit right under the man's arms, like an arch of mass muscle. When a woman approached them, Pheo happily told her just two people. She proububly immediately knew that they were an amity pair. Most of the time it was obvious to the eye. After giving them their menu, the women walked away.

Since Pheonix already knew what he wanted to eat, his eyes wandered around the building, admiring the decoration. Of course Kin could already tell his mind had made a retreat into the blank daze already. He would have to engage Phoenix into a conversation or game to keep his attention. However Kin would hear the waitress talking to one of the other women.

"He's so cute... Don't you just want to give him a piece of candy?" One of the girls said.

The other girl laughed, "He's a bit spacy. Ask him for his number."

"I rather avoid dating Amity..." Was her answer. A lot of people did. It was a dangerous job and there was no guarantee that you would live doing it. Being an amity meant death was a possibility. It was just one of those job hazards.

Phoenix however remained blissfully unaware of what was happening around him, his eyes seem to have stopped at a faded painting of several song birds on a branch.

Kin examined the woman seating them. She could be more cheerful he noted mentally he wondered if he intimidated her. When Kin sat he looked over the menu not really reading it like he should, most likely would just get waffles as well as he wasn't extremely hungry. He looked at Pheo who was starting to space out a bit. Before he could get the boys attention he listened in on the girls.

Thinking against breaking the blissful daze he just sat back in his chair and relaxed of course if she did hit on Pheo he might feel a twinge of jealousy. Pheo was just so cute and childlike, he hated the thought of others being around him sharing in the joy of his rather spaced out company. Kin tapped his foot lightly in thought. Though the space case look he had was sort of cute.

Pheo seemed to be in a state of clam, before he showed some kind of movement. He seem to have had an opphony. He reached into his pocked and pulled out the mission notice which he had still not read. Before he opened it up, the waitress came back with two glasses

"What will you have?" She asked the two rather happilly, though her attention was a bit more on Phoenix.

Phoenix smiled before looking at the women, "Iwould love for waffles please.... two. and blue berry Syrup?" He asked. The waitress slowly started to write down the order before looking to Kin, "What can Iget you sir?" She asked politly.

Phoenix seemed in some kind of blissful heaven with the thought of blueberry syurp, though he was clutching to the orders tightly, as they were meant for his and Kin's eyes only. When the women left with Kin's order, Pheo finally opened the orders up to start reading.

Kin told her he wanted the same as Pheo he looked calm and a bit more then laid back since he was putting extra effert into not looking hostile. Pheo clenched the order and Kin grinned the boy was to cute, too cute. Kin looked at the boys small hands wrapped around the orders. Pheo had tinny hands Kin noted looking at his own larger hands.

Kin rocked back in his chair idly before setting right and leaning on the table. "This place is cozy," he commented to break the daze Pheo was in and possibly make him smile. "I'm glad you brought me," he smiled at the other boy before he was able to open the note to read it.

Phoenix did smile at the mention that he was glad. He felt a small wiggle of happiness in his chest. He shuffled through the papers of the mission a bit before speaking up to Kin, "I wanted to go...with you... but you already ate..." Phoenix said looking down at the table lightly, "I was too nervous to ask." He confessed to Kin in his usual soft manner. He reached up to a strand of his hair and gently played with it while looking at the order on the table.

A moment later, the lady came up with their pancakes and then set the syrup on the table as well, "Here you go, two waffles with blueberry!" She told them. Phoenix smiled up at her, distracted from him moment of confessions, "Thank you miss..." Since he hasn't went back into his usual lala land, he seemed on top of things at the moment. It usually would take him a bit longer before he would answer someone. Keeping Phoenix engaged was the easiest way to go about talking to him. Talking to him also helps you understand that he really isn't as slow as he seems.

The women smiled and giggled, "Enjoy cutie." She told him. It caused Pheonix to blink at her a bit confused as she meandered off quickly after the awkward comment. Phoenix stared at the waitress for several long seconds, it was possible he was going back into thinking mode.

Kin watched Pheo read through the sheet the boy was to shy to ask him to go out? Kin guessed this held truth Pheo was slow to sugest things to do most of the time. Kin wanted to reach out to the kid to stroke his hair even as Pheo took a strand in his hand. Kin was about to say something as the food arrived and again the woman hit on Phoe he was getting irritated and fast.

"This looks good, we should come more often," Kin said to Pheo and reached out and did stroke his hair out of his face he hoped the woman saw this. Though he didn't know if she would take the hint. "So, do you think this mission will take long? I'd like to take you out either tonight or tomorrow," Kin said drawing back his hand so he could start on his food.

When Kin reached out to pet the boy, Pheonix felt the burst of Kin's emotion's run through his body. Irritation and annoyance. His emotions were not matching his words. This made Phoenix rather nervous. Instead of looking overjoyed at Kin when he asked to go out later tonight, he looked up at him a little nervously. "You... don't have to." Pheonix told Kin. He gave him a soft smile, "But I appreciate the offer... I can't say how long the mission will take." He looked back down on the papers, shuffling through them a bit more. He hasn't gotten the chance to read it all, just skim it a bit, which wasn't much. He couldn't even give an educated guess, if Kin was asking it was most likely a mid term kind of mission.. not long, but not a day either.

Although he felt the emotions run through him... he still felt Kin's hand as it ran over the top of his head. It was large.. and comforting. Phoenix finally subcame to his desires and put down the papers to see to the waffles he had been wanting so badly. Politely he spread his napkin over his lap and started to spread butter about and then finally lathered syrup around the warm batter.

Kin looked at Pheo "My annoyance is not at you Pheo, rest assured of that," he told the boy. He was shocked Pheo did not feel his possessive feelings as those girls oggled Pheo as if he was a fresh steak. Kin took a bite the food was good a bit sticky because of the syrup and he found himself having to lick some off his fingers to stop from making a mess. "The foods good Pheo," he praised the boy hoping that would make him feel better.

Kin glanced at the waitress as if daring her to come back and flirt more. He took a deep breath and took a drink to wash down the sweet with the pancakes themselves were fluffy. However Kin was not the biggest fan of sweets now licking a bit off of Pheo's lips though that would be a bit uncalled for.
