Stu
QgfQ0MN.gif

‘No, it was right here!’ he said to Vered, almost angrily. ‘I said I left it here. I didn’t take it down to the beach. Weren’t you listening at all?’

He let his head drop into his palms again and stayed there until his face was red to the outline of his hands.

It upset Stu that Vered was already going on about not having any food. As if losing that bag was such an inconvenience to his stomach! But one boy’s misfortune was another’s fortune. To think someone, somewhere was gobbling up all his chocolates... Why couldn’t they have asked nicely? He would’ve given them the chocolates anyway if they had just asked him nicely!! He was the school's unofficial food bank, for god's sake! Who would steal from a food bank?

Needless to say Stu was furious. How furious, exactly? So furious that he slid off his shoe and threw it angrily at the ground, then hobbled over on one foot to pick it up.

He knew his dad was going to give him an earful when he got home for being so careless with his things, especially since Stu had begged him so earnestly to buy that backpack. Dad was always telling him to look after his things better. After all, Stu was no stranger to losing all manners of things. Ever since he started school he’d already lost at least a couple of pencils, a book, a jacket, and a shoe. Imagine his dad’s confusion when he came home one day wearing just one shoe!

Still, Vered was complaining about his stomach. But Oliver had seconded the idea, and Stu had sat through enough history classes to know that democracy was a sacred institution not to be taken lightly. Plus, since Oliver never spoke much, his voice carried a rare and automatic authority that beckoned submission.

When they arrived at the Sleeping Hedgehog, Stu slumped into the chair straight away and sat miserably looking out the window at the cars and the people passing by. He hid behind a tall menu and waited for his friends to order for him. He would not condescend to actually look at the menu in front of him, because coming here wasn’t his idea in the first place and he wasn’t in the mood to eat anything.

Even though yes, he was kind of starving.

IVY DAWKINS

"Okay, fine Chucky. Let's get the hell out of here."

Bingo!
Ivy beamed, ripping her gloves off and throwing them down triumphantly, thrusting her bare fists in the air. "Fuck Yeah! Fuck the beach! We're going shopping, loser!" With a cocky wave of her hand, she gestured Evie towards the sidewalk, walking ahead and yammering on at breakneck speed as she did: "Soooo, if we're going to be smart about this, we should pregame the party starting like... a half hour before, but you know what? Fuck being smart." She whipped her phone out of her pocket, opening a webpage and rapidly thumb-typing an address. "So, I heard you were begging your blonde private school mommies for a vape, huh? So cute." Ivy smiled, touching a hand to her cheek, pretending this dearly warmed her cold little dead heart. As they left the beach behind, she leaned in all the closer and nudged Evie's elbow.

"Hey, tell you what. Slide me five bucks. I'll let you hit my dab." From her other pocket, she pulled out a glittery lime green pen. "Better weed than nicotine, anyway, right? Don't want to end up like those lizard-looking grandmas out in front of the church every day." Her tone shifted, and she twirled the device in her fingertips. Evie was so... naïve. Innocent and pure as the driven snow. Green as a baby gecko. Absolutely thrilling to someone like Ivy, who fed off the confusion of others. "I'm only doing this outta the kindness of my heart, y'know? You'll get your own, but I want you to experience things for the first time without the say-so of Lesbian Barbie and Hash Browns." For a weedy girl who was all of 5-foot-1, dressed up in pink with roller skates slung over her shoulder, looking like something off a 90s children's show, Ivy seemed to be presenting herself as a role model to this feisty bourgeois skater chick. For whatever reason, maybe just being part of the scuzzier side of town, she felt she had the upper hand of life experience and couldn't wait to use it to corrupt someone else.

Oh, thank God he isn’t pissed at me. Juliet sipped on her drink and shivered. She really needed to change into something warm and she mentally hit herself on the head for not planning to bring a spare change of clothes. Now she’s probably going to catch a cold and debated whether or not she should go home. Juliet didn’t want to ditch the cleanup and miss the opportunity to make friends. At the same time, she was wet, cold, and smelled like fish. It really is a dilemma.

Juliet sneezed and looked up at Jack, “I-I’m okay! I’m super sorry that I ran off earlier... I really wanted to help that whale.”

She laughed nervously. God she was cold and why is she so awkward? What made it even worse was that she STUTTERED. Maybe it’s because she was cold. No, that was ridiculous because she’s generally really awkward around new people (though, it makes sense for her stuttering). But shouldn’t she be comfortable around this boy since he has been in her car. Nah, that wouldn’t have stopped her from being the awkward girl she is. Juliet sighed, making friends is extremely hard.

“What’s your thoughts on the coffee?”

Juliet blinked, realizing she was lost in her thoughts once more. She took a sip of the coffee to judge its taste. To be honest, she grabbed the coffee because it was free and she was freezing. The coffee had a bitter taste but with a hint of hazelnut. Or was it hazelnut? She didn’t know why she was judging the taste of the coffee as if she was a coffee connoisseur, maybe it’s because she’s trying to impress a potential friend. Once she was done sipping it, she looked up to see Jack peering down at her causing her to blush in surprise. “Um... I’m not much of a coffee person. I really like tea and I’m just really cold so this is warming me up a bit.”

Ugh! Why did I take that time to review the coffee when I ended up telling him the truth?! Juliet quickly looked away and stared out into the ocean while chugging the coffee hoping for Jack to not notice how embarrassed she was. After she finished her coffee, she cleared her throat, “So... are you going to the party tonight? I might go, I just need to change. I look like I drowned.”

Juliet silently gave herself a high-five for making a great joke at the end.

Jack Hamilton

Jack chuckled only lightly when Juliet sneezed. He could see that she was shivering. He could see that she was shivering. Jack was lucky that he had put on a long sleeve shirt on under his hoodie, he also wasn't as wet as she was. He bent over and put his coffee cup on the ground. He twisted it so the bottom of the cup would make an imprint in the sand. He bent back up and grabbed the bottom of his hoodie. He took off his hoodie. "It isn't my heaviest hoodie that I have, but it'll help keep you warm." He said with a smile. His hoodie wasn't the heaviest, but it would still keep her warm even when she is drenched as she is. He handed it over to her. "And don't worry about giving it back. I have like a billion hoodies at home so I'm not really hung up about it." He said picking his coffee up and taking a sip from his coffee.

He looked over at the table that the coffee and food. "I won't lie, the food does look pretty good." It was at this moment that his hunger had made itself known. His stomach had let out a very loud and long groan. Jack still haven't had anything to eat. He needed to change that. He walked over to the table, which wasn't that far and picked up a blueberry muffin. He took of the tin off of the muffin and started to dig in. The muffin was really good. "You should really try this muffin... The blueberries are very tasty." He said with a little bit of blueberry on the corner of his mouth. He had been picking from the muffin instead of just taking bites from it. He held it out if she wanted a bite. “I think the owner of the place brought the coffee said that they also did tea as well. Plus I mean, this food is pretty damn good. I’d definitely go back just for another muffin.” He said continuing to munch on the blueberry muffin in his hand.

When Juliet had talked about a party, Jack's eyes lit up. Jack was a very avid party animal. To the point where he knew that he threw the best parties, even though his brother had the delusion that he was the one throwing the parties. Jack took another piece out of his muffin and chewed on it. "Oh a party? I mean, it doesn't take a lot to convince me about going." He said with a smile before letting out a small chuckle. "But I also agree, I think if your going to be going to a party, then you should definitely change out of those wet clothes into something that you wont look miserable in." He said looking at her. She was definitely going to need a change of wardrobe.

"I don't mind hanging out here if you wanna go and change. I might help the people out finishing up the cleaning before I head home..." He said looking towards the beach. It had been cleaned up a good amount. "Or I could just wander around town and try and learn more about this town that I've been sent to." He said in a little bit of a sour tone. He had been sent to the town as punishment, but it did help to know where everything was. Thinking about it, he kind of didn't want to wonder around town. He looked at Juliet with pleading puppy dog eyes. He wasn't trying to say that he really didn't want to walk around town again.

Lulu was nudged from her thoughts by a certain freshman complimenting her work. She gave Graham a soft smile in gratitude. She hadn't ever really considered helping out with the yearbook, but now that she thought about it that could be a very good outlet for her. The only problem would be actually joining the club and interacting with people. Lulu wasn't really good at meeting new people, and tended to come off as awkward and weird. Not many people actively sought out to be her friend, which didn't bother her too much. She was satisfied with the small group she called friends.

Graham continued on with a casual remark about how he thought it was strange that school was cancelled for this. Lulu shrugged. "It's more likely that the school received some kind of damage in the storm last night and they merely don't want to admit it. They probably think it would be bad for their image if they weren't invincible or something like that. An excess of money flows into that place, they probably want everyone to believe they have defense lasers or something...they probably could afford defense lasers honestly." Her voice was soft and light and carried on a breeze like birdsong. It wasn't necessarily high pitched but it was a voice that tended to draw attention; usually negative. Lulu's mother always insisted that her daughters voice would be loved by powerful men because it made her sound meek and submissive, yet delicate and pretty. The way she always put it made Lulu feel like a canary.

At Graham's next question regarding a party Lulu tilted her head side to side; pondering her answer carefully. "Well I'm not typically invited to any kind of soiree so I suppose this is a rare opportunity...It's no like they can post a bouncer on the beach to make sure no one comes that they don't want." she laughed lightly at the thought. "So to answer your query; yes I suppose I shall attend. Maybe stick around the outskirts...worse case scenario the beach is always beautiful at night." she tapped her camera with a finger to signal what exactly she meant. "As far as what parties are typically like...well I don't know firsthand, but there are always plenty of social media posts about it." Lulu frowned slightly. The thought of drunken kids posting pictures of the party was mildly upsetting to her. They were always blurry like the person was throwing their phone while taking a picture, and never really showed anything. She had to do detective work based on the comments to figure out what was going on in the picture and even then she could only ever get a vague idea. "They can be...rambunctious, depending on what is being celebrated, so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to go." Her eyes drifted down to the sand for a moment before popping back up to Graham, her whole face lit up with the spark of an idea. "You could stick with me on the outskirts if you wanted!" she said gently nudging his arm. "We keep a safe distance from...things that could be rowdy, but we can still say we were there."

As far as Lulu was concerned this was a chance that shouldn't be passed up. How many more open invitation parties would there be? While she wouldn't beg Graham to come along she did strongly think he should. "Most all of the student body of both schools is probably going to be there. Word about this kind of thing spreads fast. I'm sure we wouldn't be the only two..." she hesitated for a moment trying to think of the right word. She wanted to say outcasts at first but that was usually a hurtful word, and while probably accurate for her, she wasn't about to risk offending Graham. "..the only two like us; who aren't the typical party goer." Dazzle Dazzle

Meera Desai
Be a little clumsy.

“There was a boy? At our door…? days ago?” Meera echoed her mom’s dull commentary like a tenant existing in an oversized balloon. And balloons, frisky characters with latex appendages, needed not supernaturality or wings, but solely air to fly. Likewise, Meera drifted skybound at the simple breath of words. She knew who had come. Fruit-punch drunk in the face—particularly with sugarcane that crayoned pink on her cheeks— she quickly shrouded herself from her mom by backing herself into the shoe and jacket closet. Relying on her single-footed hopscotch expertise to guide her into the tight walk-in closet, she morosely lasted as far and fair as orange and black monarchs after migration. At least, they made out the contours of their surroundings. Meera Desai bashed straightforwardly into the hanger rack. Hysterical, she tangled and winded into the hangers, releasing a ruckus of a moonwalking musical of plastic. Breathlessly, clogged by the loaded coats and winter wear she slumped to the ground of the packed closet niche.

White shoes. Black sandals. Watermelon flip-flops- Graham.

Again her lips perched with a smile. She crawled minisculely towards the stacked shelves of footwear.

“The boy has to be the…” Her voice jittered as she sought a lie. Achingly massaging her shoulder which had been protruded by the hook of a hanger, she delved through the shoes with ladybug-like eyes, leaping from a sneaker to next like how the scarlet bug did with patches of grass.

Her mom's footfalls had become quieter as she had retreated to the yellow-wallpapered kitchen. The Desai kitchen belonged to the Cretaceous; it had sandy enameled countertops, droughty-colored walls with the faintest hopes of greenery potted in flower vase sitting sturdy on the table. With shoelaces disorientedly looped, Meera swaned her head back out, neck quirking left to right. Her parents, a newly immigrated conservative couple, were in the midst of lunch. Killing time on a woodburn chair in the dining room, her dad sealed the newspaper in the kitchen with unimpressed folds. Her mother, facing the stove that whistled a flame under a pot, was oblivious to the limitless ends of urgent thinking.

“It was the paperboy, ma!” She jabbered, marveling at her own quickness with a laugh. Promptly, she crossed her fingers behind her back and nodded believably, “Paper boy, yes.”

“Mailman always late,” her dad responded gruffly, shaking his head as he nonchalantly paged through a collaged magazine.

“Anyway, pappã,” she eagerly addressed, “Can I go down to the beach with my friend Madi? They are cleaning the beach, and I want to help.”

Hours later, it became a stickled situation to pacify Meera Desai’s blues. Her parents had turned down her permission, picking on the forecast of the storm that had battered down trees and livered-out town to be unsafe. At first, she had been understanding, monkeying around with karaoke and movies. But, her dejection heightened as she felt more of an outcast. With massive silk pillows bucked up to her chin, lips faintly pulling at a pout, her vacuous eyes skimmed her social media. Could she go to the party? She could already picture the bleak answer from her parents.

Still...

Would she go? What was it they called it...sneaking out?

Maxine Rhodes

"That wasn't what I was referring to." Max rolled her eyes, walking with a swing in her step, she leaned into her best friend, hooking her arm around his. "I was talking about a certain blonde." She wiggled her eyebrows, of course she understood. Tatum was hot, mysterious, and untouchable. How couldn't you fall for her, how couldn't you stare. She was fire, and not to be messed with.

"Come on Colb, I've known you long enough to be able to notice when someone catches your fancy." She rolled her eyes biting her bottom lip holding back a laugh.

"Remember when you had a crush on our babysitter." She turned walking backwards, dragging Colby along by the hand. He was truly walking too slow for her coffee needs at that point. "You couldn't take your eyes off of her, I had to wipe the drool off of your face."

"At least you've stopped drooling." She shrugged her shoulders, dropping his hand from hers she turned away from him. "Come on, I really want to get some dry clothes."

"I can't judge you though, she is pretty nice to look at."

Hayden Anderson

Hayden wondered what would of been a moment that would of mattered, what would her mom consider to be something worth drawing attention to her daughter. Hayden felt bad that he didn't notice her before, but she seemed to be okay with it. Making it easy to let go and move on from, though he was sure he wouldn't forget her now. He chuckled at her forgiving him for being completely oblivious to most things around him. She was completely optimistic of the world, and he hadn't ever met someone like that. Except for Madi, she thought the whole world spun because of goodness, unfortunately Hayden didn't see the world that way, not for a few years at least.

"It's a great name, I love it." He smirked. "But..." He looked at his feet again, before looking back up at her. "You must never find your name on those key chains." He laughed lightly, Hayden barely was able to find his own name. "That's the most unfair thing our parents can do to us." Hayden attempted to lighten the mood, of course he didn't truly feel that way, but he wouldn't bring attention to his home life. No one needed to know the things he went through, only Liz knew of how shitty his father could be, he made her promise that she wouldn't ever say anything to anyone. He kept the truth from everyone else.

Hayden was surprised at her eagerness to help him with the bonfire, "Yea, I'll take the help."

"It's almost done I think, I figured we might need a bit more wood, and then fire starter. But I can pick that up at the store."

"Despite fire and drunk teenagers, likely being a pretty bad idea, I think a dark beach and drunk teens is a worse idea." He chuckled, raising his shoulders to his ears tilting his head to one.

Graham Moore

Graham nodded slowly along to Lulu's remarks about the school likely having damage they didn't want to tell them about. He lived on campus and hadn't seen anything himself, but Lulu knew the school best, she had been there longer than he had, Lulu had to know the truth. He was quiet, her voice was soft, and he didn't want to say anything wrong, he was already having a tough enough time making friends that he didn't want to ruing the few he made made successfully.

Graham understood never being invited to parties, he had only ever gone to family 'soirees' when he was at home, Christmas parties, and Thanksgiving. But he was pretty sure that school parties would never compare. He hadn't ever drank, except for the glass of champagne his parents would allow him to have on New Years Eve whenever the ball dropped. For the most part, Graham just hid in his room and played fortnight with his cousins and neighbors, and then they would eat all sorts of delicious food, before going back to playing again.

"No I guess they can't" He laughed nervously at the idea of the beach being closed off by a bouncer or some horrible bully like Ryan.. What was he supposed to do if that happened, I mean, they definitely wouldn't have enough bullies to line the beach and refuse to let him in. Maybe this was his chance to make himself more well known, and to be considered less of a nerd. Yea.. He was pretty sure that wouldn't happen, that was some sort of fever dream. He was the mascot and was now forever stuck in the position of nerd.

"Yea, I'm not exactly sure what parties entail either... But I think that they do a lot of drinking usually.." Graham couldn't pretend that he knew more than he did, he knew nothing on how to be a teenager, he was simply stated... Inexperienced... And the idea of going to this party frightened him, but the idea of not being there scared him that much more. He didn't want to be bullied for showing up where he wasn't wanted or hiding from the rest of his peers. It was a rather tough decision, but he figured if Lulu thought that it would be safe she was likely right.

"No.." He thought about it for a moment, it was an easy out, he didn't have to go, he could go back home and hide in his dorm room for the night. "No, we should go." He said with a bit more of enthusiasm. "The outskirts sound like a great way to be there, without being there." Graham figured it was probably a better idea to try and make more friends, or at least not be completely anti-social. Plus, there was a-whole-nuther school he hadn't met yet. Maybe he would be able to find others who happened to be like him and Lulu, not quite the in-crowd type, but nice and friendly, and fun. Maybe others who liked to dance, or had an unhealthy obsession with chocolate as well.

Graham wasn't exactly sure what Lulu had meant by rambunctious, but it couldn't have been worse than the movies made it seem, right? They over played that stuff anyways, nothing like brawls and crazy make out sessions like the movies happened in real life like that.

HELLO
my name is
Colby
Colby slightly staggered in his steps as Maxine literally dragged him by the arm. He responded with an annoyed scowl—the audacity of this girl. Sometimes he wondered how he’d gotten stuck with someone like Maxine Rhodes, but then remembered it was because he let her and he had no other friends when he was little.

“Hey, I only stared at our babysitter because she brought homemade cookies and I was trying to convince her to give me extra with my adorable babyface,” he said. “And yes, I thought she was pretty hot, too.” Too bad he couldn’t remember their babysitter’s name.

“Look, I know she has a boyfriend. I'm not gonna try anything. I don't wanna ruin my new friendship with her. Now hurry up and go get your stinkin’ pants from that tater tot.” Like a father with his kid, Colby hanged back while Maxine got the sweatpants from Tatum, and waited outside until she finished changing into them in the beach bathroom. Soon, they started marching first to the thrift store near Sleeping Hedgehog, Thrifty Tiff—who was Tiff? Colby had no idea, but he did know that the store had a lot of interesting stuff, including some clothes that he could get for a few dollars. There was also a fitting room, so he couldn’t have to stay in his wet pants for long.

Colby bought a new hoodie that had the white letters F and U. The rest of the letters were actually very faded, so it probably had spelled futbol because of the ball on the pocket pouch or whatever cleaner word that began with those two letters. But still, he liked it. It went with his sense of humor.

Maybe Juliet should have hesitated or paused to think about taking the boy's extra warm hoodie because she reeked of seaweed and mammal blood. She probably stained that hoodie with the stench too. Oh God, probably the outfit she was currently wearing as well. I should've waited to purge my closet, rest in peace this tee and mom jeans... God I really liked those jeans, Juliet thought angrily. At the end, Juliet found herself wearing Jack's hoodie and it did warm her up a little. She placed her sleeve-covered hands onto her cheeks to warm her face and smelled a slight musky aroma. When Jack offered her some of his muffin, she surprisingly went to eat a little bit off of it. It surprised her, first automatically taking the hoodie and now shamelessly eating off of this guy's muffin? Juliet wondered if she is now feeling comfortable with Jack as if he's... a friend? Oh wow, a FRIEND? Juliet stopped herself. She can't get ahead of herself and scare off this boy. He would probably think she's a freak. She replied to Jack's comment about the muffin, "I can tell you really like it, especially you got a little bit of..." she wiggled her finger in front of the corner of her mouth. She immediately stopped what she was doing realizing she already did get ahead of herself. Hopefully he ignored it. Juliet sighed in relief that Jack is also going to the party, now she would have somebody to go with. Wait, did she even ask? Oh well, maybe she can just slide in the assumption that he's going with her. Juliet let out a chuckle noticing Jack's puppy dog eyes. Is he trying to ask if he could hang out with her?

"Oh well... maybe you can come with me to my house while I change? It'll be a while though, but my dog Poncho can entertain you! He's a bit of a brat but he's okay." she laughed at her little joke at the end. Even though people normally don't laugh at her jokes, at least she thinks she's funny. Juli grabbed her keys and led Jack to her car. She started the car and played some Tien Tien, a Vietnamese artist. Even though she doesn't know the language, she tries to stay in touch with her ethnic side. The two slowly and carefully made it to Juliet's condo and she sighed in relief. She hated driving, especially when it's raining. Juli noticed that both of her parents' cars were not in the lot. She felt disheartened that they weren't home. Juli knew they went somewhere because they were bored, but they are always bored.. stop thinking like that! Juliet thought. She ran inside the house to grab her sleepy corgi and shoved him in Jack's arms: "Okay! I'm going to go shower and get ready. Make yourself at home!" then she dashed upstairs into her room.

After showering and prepping her makeup, she decided to go for the fake bangs. Today she's going to make even more friends. Juliet wasn't sure how cute everyone is dressing since it was a bonfire, and she has never been to a bonfire. She threw on a yellow dress, red faux fur coat, and black thigh high socks with some combat boots. Hopefully her outfit was cute enough and normal enough for a bonfire. After about an hour and fifteen minutes, Juliet ran down the stairs with a brownie in hand. She immediately gave it to Jack apologizing, "I'm so sorry for making you wait! Here's a brownie! I think we have time until the party... do you want to explore the town together? I think there's a cute coffee shop called The Sleeping Hedgehog?"

Hopefully Jack accepts the brownie and forgives her, it was her last brownie. "Oh, and... do you want to drive?"

At the very least his friends accepted his idea. They could look for the bag later -- doing anything on an empty stomach just wasn't really happening. Vered internally cursed himself for not bringing anything to munch on -- usually he was a lot more prepared.

The menu items were expensive... he'd have to pay Oliver back for this. Maybe Stu had some cash in his pocket? A dollar or two rattled around in Vered's wallet.

"Uh... the bagels look good." Vered attempted small talk. He'd never really done the whole friend thing before, but believed himself to be (more or less) the emotionally stable member of this ragtag crew they'd acquired. It wasn't very crowded, probably because people were too busy cleaning cellars to come get a cuppa. Plus Iris Baptiste was giving them out for free. But she wasn't giving out bacon egg and cheese bagel bites so who was the real winner here?

Vered was suddenly regretting bringing his friends here.

"I kind of want a corn muffin, what... do you guys think..." How to converse? HOW TO CONVERSE? It was a lot more difficult than Vered had expected.

TL;DR Ivy and Evie are ditching-- together.
tl;dr
Genevieve
I don't give a damn about my bad reputation

The walk off the beach was supposed to be quiet. Supposed to. Evie didn't want to talk to Ivy. People would start to get the wrong idea. No, not that they're dating. Something even worse than that.

friends.

The thought itself made the brunette shudder, she couldn't have them thinking she turned soft and decided to pick up some friends along the way of this whole trash-bucket of a town. Which had to be only a matter of time before they left, right? Granted, this was the first time her mother had married her beau. But... that didn't make any difference. Their relationship was already half-down the toilet. Evie just to wait it out. It's not that she didn't want to see her mother happy, of course she did. Just with someone who was less of an asshole. And Jen had a thing for ugly douchebags, apparently.

"Five bucks? What are you? Broke?" Most likely. Ivy looked like she was five, so there's no way someone would offer her a job. That is... unless she decided to start working the streets and let's be honest... there wasn't anything there anyone would want. She was an orphan, yes, but the street corner wouldn't even want her. What? She was probably younger than Evie.

That's disgusting and a whole another ball park. But it was nowhere near the type of shit Bloody Mary had said she'd done on twitter.

Ivy was... disgusting. But... clearly more experienced. And this, well, this made her envious. But that didn't mean she was about to turn her down on this very special offer. Evie reached into her pocket and begrudgingly pulled out five bucks, handing it to Ivy and trying her best to limit any physical contact. Taking the surprisingly girly pen from the other girl. Besides the odd dresses, Ivy was more... she wouldn't say tomboyish.

She was just weird.

"Right, the kindness out of your heart. I don't owe you my first born. Just remember that." Evie took the sleeve of her leather jacket and cleaned the top of the weed pen. Which by the way, the jacket might've been a little, way too big for her but she looked good in it. It was her dad's too. So... it was a given. Anyway, there was no way she was about to get second-hand mono or something from little miss psycho over here. She lifted the pen to her lips and inhaled. Inhaled wrong, by the way. Which was probably why she had started coughing barely a puff in.

Jeez.

"Don't laugh." She warned, sending a deathly glare her way before clearing her throat and taking another puff-- this time, she didn't cough, instead? She had started to instantly feel a little calmer... after the third, Evie gave it a little longer before she had thought, can she officially say she's 'high?'

Most of her negative emotions had drifted away.

"... Thanks?"

Yeah, thanks. There was zero way Sawyer would approve and allow her to do any type of fun shit, and Tatum wouldn't give in because Sawyer wouldn't approve and it would've been a huge spiral, running around in circles until they had ended up arguing and... maybe she was kinda glad Ivy was cool. She was a fucking crazy bitch. But semi-cool. That's all she's getting for now, and it's not even being voiced.

Maybe she was being so nice because Evie literally felt... okay, not like she was walking on air. But she was so... relaxed. So calm. So... comfortable.

Dude, is this what it's like to be high?

Fucking. Awesome.

Jack Hamilton

Jack followed Juliet to her car. He was grateful that she was willing to give him a ride. He didn’t mind going to Juliet's place to hang out. He for sure didn’t want to go home. His brother was probably there. He loved his brother, but he was annoying, always trying to one up him, and be the “better” twin, when it was Jack who was better. He listened quietly to the song, tapping his foot to the beat. He had never heard of this artist, but the beat was happy, and the singer’s voice was pretty good. Jack watched the buildings move by as he sat shotgun with Juliet.

When they arrived at Juliet’s place, Juliet had told him to make himself at home. The first thing Jack did was take off his boots. They were a little sandy from the sand on the beach and he didn’t want to track sand through her place. After he just walked around her living room and kitchen with the sleepy corgi in his arms. He slowly pet Poncho while walking around. He was trying to pray. He just liked to see the layout. Jack loved dogs, especially corgi’s. Poncho had woken up. Jack pet Poncho. He put Poncho on the ground. Jack walked over and sat down on the ground in front of the couch. Poncho seemed to run away for a second before coming back with a small rope toy. He held it in his mouth before plopping it down at Jack’s feet. “Wanna play?” Jack said sitting on the ground in front of the couch before reaching for one side of the rope. Poncho took the other side and started to tug on the rope. Jack lightly tugged because Poncho was only a puppy. He played with him for a while. When the dog was worn out, Jack let go of the rope. Poncho had walked over to Jack and nuzzled up to him. Poncho started to snooze in Jack’s lap. He could hear Poncho snoring. He softly pet Poncho before putting his head back. He wasn’t really that tired but he still passed out.

His eyes shot open when he heard the footsteps of Juliet on the ground. It sounded like Juliet was done. He opened his phone to look at the time. She did take a little bit of time, but Jack didn’t mind. He got to play with a dog, which was a blessing because all dogs were angels. He softly petted Poncho on the head, waking the sleepy pup. “Alright buddy, I would love to let you sleep on me some more, but I think we’re gonna be heading out soon.” He said softly to Poncho who was looking at Jack half asleep. He slowly got up and found a dog bed. He placed Poncho on the bed. He watched as the pup softly passed out. He pet him before walking over to the couch and took a seat.

When Juliet had walked down stairs offering a brownie for taking so long. “I did have muffin, how about we share it? It looks super good and delicious.” He said smiling. Then she talked about exploring the town and about a place called The Sleepy Hedgehog . Jack didn’t really know anything about the town so he didn’t know anything about it. “Sure! It sounds interesting.” He said walking with her. Then she offered to let Jack drive. Jack did have his license but no car. He shrugged. “Sure, I would love to drive.” He said climbing into the driver side.

He took a small breath in. He had his license, but hadn’t driven that much, and when he did it was an instructor. His driving instructor was bat shit crazy. Like the smallest thing like going 2 miles over the speed limit and she would flip shit about it. He put the car into gear and they were off. He drove on the cautious side because well, he was super nervous. Would Juliet be like the instructor that he had? He didn’t want to think that. His knuckles were not white, but he was gripping the wheel a little hard. He was that nervous. “Sorry, this is like my first time actually driving with someone other than family.” He said, chuckling nervously. He drove around for a little, getting less nervous every minute.

After a little bit of driving around, he had found The Sleepy Hedgehog. He pulled in and found a parking spot. “Sorry about taking so long to get here. I will pay as a thank you for letting me drive.” He said opening the door for Juliet.

OLIVER DREYFUSS

The atmosphere of the Sleeping Hedgehog was a vast improvement from the chaos of the beach. Oliver thumbed through his menu, more interested in the feel of the laminated pages than in actually reading it. To the best of his recollection, this was the first time he'd actually been to a café. It was nice, really: not too many people, all sitting and talking softly amongst themselves, the music was quiet and simple, even the grinding of the espresso machines wasn't too nerve-wracking.

What was nerve-wracking, however, was trying to pick what to eat. Oliver wasn't used to having options. It sort of gave him a headache. He couldn't believe this was a normal regular thing for most people.

So he tried to narrow the menu down into the following criteria: what was least expensive (so he wouldn't end up owing Vered more than he could scrounge up), and what would provide the most nutritional energy (as this would have to last him the rest of the day, and probably a good portion of tomorrow). Then there was the fact that he was just indecisive in general.... right, no. This was too hard.

He kept absentmindedly flipping the pages back and forth, watching the slight flicker of the light overhead. The silence of his friends didn't bother him at all. Truth be told he hadn't really noticed. Perhaps he should have, though; it was weird for Stu to be so quiet.

He stifled a harsh cough in the crook of his elbow, closing the menu for a moment to give himself a break from the wall of text. Stu was still silently ducked behind his, and Vered was thinking out loud about the muffin he wanted to try. Alright, now the silence seemed amiss. Took him too long to clue in, but he got there. He looked across the table at what could be seen of Stu behind the menu.

"You had a good bag. I'm going to miss it." He offered awkwardly, somewhat of a non sequitur. "It was my fault. I should have seen it on the beach but all I saw were the boots Vered dropped. But if I see it again, I..." Something, some glancing moment of common sense finally convinced him to stop rambling about the bag, and he fumbled on to his next subject, seeming to be talking just to hear himself. "...I like pancakes. It's too late for pancakes but I don't care. They're nice. Also they have hot chocolate..."

"She was hot." Maxine nodded her head in agreement, "and her cookies weren't half bad either." She giggled lightly and quickly covered her mouth out of shock at the sound that came out of her mouth. Belly laughing at herself, she dropped her shoulders forward as they walked off the beach. "I'm glad to hear that, I kinda like your face this way... I couldn't hang out with someone even uglier." She elbowed him in his side. Maxine ran away from him, looking back with a rather evil smirk on her face.

She slowed back down to a walking, turning to face Colby, she pointed over to Tatum who was standing over by her car with a pair of sweatpants. "I'll be two seconds." Maxine ran up to Tatum's car quickly grabbing the sweats that she had offered, thanking her for the generosity and promising to return them next week, clean.

---

They wandered around the Thrifty Tiffy's and Max tried to ignore all of Colby's questions about who Tiffy was, he was being rather unbearable about it. But she just rolled her eyes and continued through the shelves. Colby found a hoodie that insinuated some profanities, now with the need to one up him, Max found an even better sweatshirt that she had to post a picture to on instagram. Stealing one of Colby's baseball caps when they got back to his house, she quickly snapped a picture.

"Did you get the goods" She spoke softly, even though she was sure that Colby's grandparents were not home, she still didn't want to risk it. Her and Colby shared a similar taste and like for whiskey, forever being their go-to drink.

--

The sun had began to set and her and Colby made their way down to the beach. Even though the sun was now gone, it almost felt warmer than it had earlier in the day. After the rain stopped everything felt like it dried out rather quickly. When she made it down to the beach there was already a bonfire roaring, all sorts of shades of red, orange, and yellow, burning up towards the sky. She twisted open the top to her flask, clinking it against Colby's, before tipping it back and taking a big swig.

She smirked, wiping the lone drip of whiskey that had pooled at the corner of her mouth. "This should be fun." She winked at Colby as they watched more students arrive at the beach, both schools partying together could truly only go one way. And that was down a drama-hole.

Stu
QgfQ0MN.gif

Stu touched the edge of the laminated cardboard to his nose while his friends across the table racked their brains trying to decide what they wanted to order. Vered was probably busying his genius mind with contemplating the atomic composition of the humble muffin. On the other hand, Oliver was studying the menu so religiously as if it were an ancient tome to be treated with the utmost respect. In fact, Oliver seemed to be having a spiritual experience of sorts — the sort Stu was accustomed to witness in his father’s church.

As for Stu, he was famished since he had burnt all his energy pushing the whale and rolling in the sand earlier. But that boy had concluded, after much deliberation, that he didn’t deserve any food because of how stupidly he’d lost his bag. So it was settled. He would punish himself by starving into the afternoon. Yes. This is the way.

Was that his stomach rumbling? It sounded almost like their whale friend on the beach!

Stu knitted his brows in an exaggerated display of confusion when Oliver offered him some consoling words that didn’t make a whole lot of sense, but he mostly ignored it. Because he was being a miserable wet blanket, remember?

Outside a car pulled up in front of the cafe, and Stu in his perfect boredom watched a guy circle around and open the door for a girl. What a proper gentleman, he thought. Then he reeled in his eyes and studied the cafe's interior, wondering where in the world the hedgehog was sleeping. Or was it all just a ruse?

Now and again he would peek from the safety of his menu to see if any progress was being made across the table. You would think after Oliver and Vered complained so pitiably about being hungry that they would try to get their order in as soon as possible. Instead they were spoilt for choice and sat in awe at all that the Sleeping Hedgehog had to offer. Indecision loomed over their booth like a cloud, and all of it was starting to get on Stu’s nerves just a little bit.

‘So are you going to order today or what?’ he said and went back to stabbing his own nose with the menu.

MAX BERKOWITZ

After ensuring the beach was clean and safe, Max had looked around for Harper. Unfortunately, in the swarm of students (Who, let's be real, all looked much the same to Max) she was nowhere to be found. A smarter, more attentive friend might have sent her a text or something, but poor airheaded Max was too tired for this to occur to him, and he simply hopped back in his car and returned home for a shower and a change of clothes.

His parents were both still out at work, leaving the house empty save for him and the beloved spider plant in his room. He heavily considered not returning for the celebratory "we saved a whale" party. It was probably just going to be a bunch of kids drinking and wrecking the beach they'd just spent hours picking up. He sleepily pulled a book off one of his many shelves, dusted off the cover and sank into the beanbag cushion in the corner of the room, only to drop the book in his lap as reality caught up and punched him in the gut.

He'd totally just ditched Harper, hadn't he?

Shit. He had to make that up somehow, or he really would have no friends. Clambering to his feet and leaving the book on the floor, he ran a hand through his hair in a hasty attempt to fix it, tugging on a nicer sweater than the one he'd had on (leaving the previous garment tossed over the back of his desk chair... Max really needed to get a handle on his clutter problem). Once satisfied that he looked vaguely presentable, he ran back outside and briskly walked down the hill towards the beach. No point in taking the car again. This would save him money, anyhow.

The wealthier neighborhoods overlooked the shore from the hills, so it didn't take him too long to arrive on foot, though his fast pace had left him a little short of breath. Wasting not a second, he started looking around for Harper, this time paying more attention so he'd actually spot her this time. If he wanted to keep his small handful of friends, he would have to eventually learn to stop being such a ditz.

AJ BAKER
Location: the beach
Interaction: Lemon, Hayden
Outfit: x
Mood: anxious
The sun was just beginning to set gently on the horizon as AJ pulled up to the beach. There was already small crowd gathered on the sand and the blonde's pale hands clenched onto the steering wheel as she looked for a familiar face. AJ liked parties, she just didn't like people. Especially Parish Point people. The only person in town that AJ could even remotely relate to was her friend Evie. As much as she loved Josie and Lemon, they had such a rose-colored view of the world and knack for people that the introvert simply couldn't understand. Her little sister was everything that their parents had always wanted in a daughter, she was the youth group leader at their church, smart, and had tons of friends. Things that AJ just wasn't.

Since her mother had pulled her out of Parish Bay and enrolled her in Hartfield Academy, AJ hadn't exactly gone out of her way to make friends. Her childhood best friend Lemon was still at Parish Bay High with her little sister, and the prep school kids at the academy weren't exactly the kind of people she enjoyed spending time with. So, besides a few stray friends like Evie, AJ spent most of high school avoiding every other living being. Except tonight, her mother was having a bunch of her socialite friends over and had told her oldest daughter to get out of the house and get a social life. So, AJ had let Lemon drag her to the first party of the school year with a bunch of people she didn't know.

Taking a steadying breath, AJ unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of her car to head down to the beach. Her hazel eyes scanned the beach until she found the familiar blonde in the crowd, playing nervously with the faded friendship bracelet on her wrist as she stepped through the treacherous sand towards the group of teens she didn't recognize. Maybe AJ as a bit of a loner, but the people of Parish Point didn't really advertise themselves as people worth getting to know. AJ had grown up here, she knew that everyone was so deep in their religion and keeping up public appearances that they didn't take a moment to self reflect and realize how pathetic they really were.

"Lemon!" The blonde called as she finally got close to the edge of the group, waving at her friend as she tried to ignore the few people who turned to look at her. She had hoped to avoid interacting with anyone else all night, but she could already see that Lemon was talking to a boy she didn't recognize as she came to stand beside the other blonde.

"Who's this?" She asked, looking the boy up and down skeptically.

Lemon had been excited to help Hayden; he was friendly, and she enjoyed that in almost everyone. Plus, he had a nice smile and that was always a bonus. If a person had a nice smile, then they weren’t all bad. Lemon couldn’t help but let out a small giggle, “My name exists at every grocery store though. I may not be able to get a key chain, but I can get any novelty lemon item, and actual lemons.” Lemon had grown fond of her name over the years, though as a young child it was hard. Kids were so mean to her, and she had cried a lot as a kid, that was until AJ became her best friend and then no one made fun of her.

When the beach was finally clean Lemon was still hanging out with Hayden, enjoying the fact that she was making a new friend. Her eyes kept scanning for her Apple Juice but she hadn’t seen her yet. She could hear Hayden talking but her mind was distracted. Of course, she didn’t want to come off as rude, but sometimes a girl really needed her best friend when it came to parties. It only felt like an eternity before she heard a familiar voice say her name. Lemon completely turned around and saw AJ coming towards her, “Apple Juice!” Lemon couldn’t exactly remember why she had thought Aj’s name was Apple Juice but she had kept the name after all these years. She wrapped her friend in a hug, “I’m glad you came!” Her face beaming at the sight of her amazing friend. Sure, Aj seemed mean and angry, but she was a softy too. Well, sometimes.

Lemon turned back towards Hayden, “Oh, this is Hayden. He’s the boy I messaged you about. He’s real nice. I think you two would get along and could be friends.” Lemon grabbed Aj’s hand and pulled her closer to the group. She didn’t let go of Aj once they we both facing Hayden, “This is Aj, Aj this is Hayden.” Lemon felt like she was doing a good thing for her friend, swinging hers and Ajs hands.

Tatum had gotten a ride back with Liz and Isa had joined in, and sure she had been a little annoyed with Isa, but she loved her friend. She gave Isa a reassuring hand squeeze on the ride back, trying to let Isa know she wasn’t that mad and never would be. Tatum was bad at keeping her emotions contained when it was her friends, but she never wanted any of them to feel like she didn’t love them, because she loved her friends dearly. When Liz dropped them off Tatum changed her outfit, so she wasn’t covered in sand and water. She had stared in the mirror, deciding whether she should have her hair up or down and she couldn’t decide which option was better. Sure, Zach wouldn’t care but she wasn’t trying to impress him. She wanted to impress Isa and Nomi. The opinions of her friends mattered so much to her, and she hated how much she struggled when it came to her appearance.

It felt like hours but finally Tatum had chosen her look and dragged Isa around to get some of the supplies before she had grabbed Ian and dropped Isa off to do whatever “business” she had to attend to. Tatum loved spending time with Ian, he was calming, he seemed to have some broken part to him that he didn’t discuss, and she never pushed, but he always made her feel good about herself. She loved Ian even though they had only been friends for about a year. She had told him everything about her life, about her family, even about her failed relationship. She felt comfortable with him. Grabbing coffee with him brought her joy but she was excited for the party.

Once, they arrived at the beach Tatum waited for him before dragging him to where the main even would take place, her hand holding his, “Ian, come on! It’s party time! I need to find Zach and Nomi.” Was she a handful? Sure. But her friends were the best people and she couldn’t wait to let loose with them for a few hours.

LiveIllegalHapuka-small.gif

Harper wasn't mad that Max had left her, it gave her a reason to just take in the beach. To just take everything in, after they cleaned the beach she went off to the coffee shop across the way. She loved the sleeping hedgehog, but the prices were just a bit too high for her to justify paying for them. Even if their Sugar Cookie Latte was to die for.

Harper bought herself a plain vanilla latte from the small little shop next store, of course it was nothing special, but it was good enough to get through the rest of the day. Getting back to the beach after everyone else had scattered for the most part, she had heard of the party happening later and figured she should get some quiet time in one of her favorite places, before all the chaos began.

Harper stopped by her car, picking up her book and heading back down the beach, finding a spot up against the dunes to make herself comfortable. The ocean, a good book, and the hero feeling of saving a beached whale. What else could make this day better?

---

It wasn't long till the sun began to set and Harper felt a chill cold hit her body, she sauntered over to her car, putting her book back and grabbing out a thicker sweater. She could of gone home, showered, changed, like most of the students did. But truthfully, being out of the house was much better than a warm shower and a fresh set of clothes. Going home to a dark house, with the chance of her father coming out in a tizzy, was just too much to handle. She didn't want to ruin such a nice day.

Harper closed the door to her car, slipping the hoodie over her head, she leaned back against her driver-side door placing her hands into the front pocket of her hoodie. She smiled lightly, thinking about the day she just had. She couldn't get over the fact that they did the impossible... Well it was possible, just an unlikely circumstance to come across.

She caught sight of a shaggy haired boy arriving back to the beach and her smile grew. Max was such a good friend, and even though she occasionally struggled to keep up with his signing(especially when he was angry), she still appreciated him putting up with her, and they were close despite it.

She rocked her body back off the car, jogging over to her friend, tapping him on the shoulder to gain his attention. She signed more fluidly than she had earlier, there was no mistakes to her signing. 'Hey! Where did you go?' Her signing was not rushed, though it was no where near the speed and proficiency of someone who was fluent. 'Wasn't that cool what we did?' She referred to their whale rescue. 'I think it was a pilot whale calf'

Harper had looked up types of whales while taking a breather on the beach and was able to match the whale they saved to the pictures she had looked up on google. She then went a step further to find out how to sign it, so that she could talk to Max about it later. However, she could see that he looked troubled, knowing the drama that Ryan had been causing all over twitter, she wondered how her friend was feeling. He seemed quite to most people, but to her, or anyone who took the time to get to know him, he was rather outspoken about anything he believed in. 'are you okay?' She raised her eyebrows questioning him.

MAX BERKOWITZ

Someone approached Max from behind and tapped his shoulder, and he'd be lying if he said he didn't freak out a little. Fighting down the surging instinct to swing his fist back before looking, he instead just tensed at the shoulders and swiftly turned around.

Oh. Harper. The one person he was looking for in this mess. He softened, giving a slight smile and a quick "hello" with his dominant left hand. He was always happy to see her, but especially here and now.

Before he could apologize for wandering off earlier, she started in and asked where he went. Wow, she'd clearly rehearsed the question... she even remembered the facial cues for asking an open-ended question and her movement wasn't wonky or unclear at all. He couldn't help but beam with pride. He really appreciated how much she cared. Still, though, it was kind of an awkward one to give an answer for.

"I just went home. After the whale I didn't see you." He replied sheepishly. "I'm sorry, I should have looked. Tired, you know? I've had a lot to think about--" Oh, shit. There he went making excuses. Terrible etiquette. Stupid, Max. Stupid.

Luckily Harper didn't seem to care much, instead excitedly going on about the whale they rescued. A pilot whale... huh. That kid Vered had said as much, but whale identification was not Max's forte so he didn't question it much himself. Still, they'd done a good deed, no thanks to the authorities. Max was proud of himself, and of Harper, and everyone else who pitched in when they had no obligation to.

Then she asked him if he was okay.
Wait, what? The question rattled around in Max's brain for a few seconds before he tentatively gave it an answer. "Yeah? I'm good. Tired, I guess. It's been a long day. My arms are killing me." It occurred to him just about as soon as he put his hand down that she was talking about what had happened on Twitter. "Oh. Twitter." He drew in a deep breath, bringing his closed fist to his mouth in a slang term that didn't really have a literal English translation. Cough. The gist being that the topic at hand was exasperating, stupid or embarrassing. "Yes. Right. I'm not sure if I handled that well. Ryan is... i don't know him. He's at my school but I don't really know anyone there, so..." he trailed off for a second, as if mulling over his next phrase before quickly and bluntly getting to the point. "What an asshole. I'm going to beat his ass." It wasn't at all like Max-- quiet, standoffish Max-- to be making violent threats. Even the more loathed figures in his life got little more than backhanded passive-aggression. Whatever Ryan had done, it had cut deep.

Random young adult Sleeping Hedgehog cafe employee
Sleeping Hedgehog wasn’t crowded when the nerd squad trio appeared. It was a quiet lunch hour with 7 or 8 customers already there, and the store's radio speakers playing relaxing music. The general buzz going around in the cafe, as well as throughout the rest of the town, was how a pilot whale was saved at the beach today, and how the town’s citizens dealing with the aftermath of last night’s crazy weather.

The waiter had a nametag on her apron, but the writer was feeling too lazy to think of a name for her at the moment. This random cafe employee was just an average young woman who was assigned to help open the store this morning after last night’s storm, which, fortunately, hadn’t destroyed the humble, not-overpriced establishment. There were two framed pictures missing from the wall after falling off their hooks overnight, but that was the only damage assessment the store had.

Anyway, the waiter, after delivering two drinks to the previous customer, the trio’s booth table, a writing pad ready in her hands. She noticed the short British kid quietly judging the store’s interior design earlier.

“Hi, good afternoon! Welcome to Sleeping Hedgehog,” the waiter greeted them. “Have you kids picked something to have today?”

The menu had what most cafes tend to have. Sleeping Hedgehog is mainly a specialty coffee and tea place, not a fine-dining restaurant or buffet. Customers usually stopped by for a quick breakfast, a simple lunch, or a light snack. It also had non-coffee and non-tea drinks, like hot cocoa or chocolate and a few others. There were a dozen different choices of sandwiches like the owner’s grilled cheese and panini recipes, a few salads, and some bread and pastry items like muffins, some macaron flavors, Nonna Rita’s tiramisu recipe, and maybe a fruit parfait and bagels. There were always bagels. All less than 9-to-10 dollars. Nothing too complex.

Seriously, I’m not going to list every food item in specific detail for this post, so the nerd squad better think of something to eat soon, if they want to make it to the beach party later.

OLIVER DREYFUSS

They had been at the table for several minutes before the waitress trotted back around. Stu would be happy for this, Oliver was certain. He'd sent out a public tweet a few moments prior imploring them to hurry up. How the tables had turned: now it was Stu who sat in eerie silence.

The employee welcomed the boys to the café, her bright retail voice asking if they'd made any decisions. Being the tallest of the three kids (though not by much: Oliver was a mere 5'5), the frighteningly cheery woman instinctively looked to him first. Shit.

"What? Uh..." Suddenly Oliver felt like everyone was looking at him. He was on the stand and had to make an excellent case or he'd be off to the guillotine. Suddenly frantic, everything he had scripted for himself to say leaked out of his left ear and he was left wildly scanning the menu for the first word that made a lick of sense. He had approximately 3 seconds to say something before it became an Awkward Pause.

"Can... canIhavesomebreadplease?"

Smooth.
The woman's face said it all. That didn't make any fucking sense. Oliver clamped his hands to his mouth, slowly shifting his gaze to the table and drawing in a shaky breath. "I..." He suddenly felt very lost and alone, cast adrift in an unfamiliar and terrifying social encounter. He took a moment to review the section of the menu again, and by the time he opened his mouth again he sounded a moment away from breaking down. "...plain bagel, please? I also want hot chocolate, if it's not a..." it occurred to him that asking for things in a restaurant wasn't considered a hassle at all. He flinched away, shrinking back in his seat and giving a vague gesture that he was done talking.

Graham Moore

Graham was absolutely terrified, to say the least. Graham knew how strict Meera's parents could be. Well, he figured he knew, he hadn't actually met them. Most of the time when he would ask Meera to hang out, Meera would tell him that her father said no, she hadn't even been allowed to come to the beach clean up which was school sponsored. That had to be it, right? She didn't actually hate him, and was just using her father as an excuse to not have to see him... Either way, she had convinced Graham into some sort of rescue/escape mission, where he could truthfully come out dead.

What if Meera's dad had a shot gun, and would shoot anyone there to steal his daughter away. She hadn't been allowed to the beach during the day, at night she was more likely to receive a no from her father.

Graham felt like a secret spy, he took an uber half way to Meera's house, freaking out the whole way. He babbered on to the driver, who looked like he was waiting for this small freshman to shut up. The good news was that at least Meera lived close to the beach, so if they made it out alive, they would have a direct sprint to the beach. And if Graham could feel good about anything, it was his ability to run.

The driver came to a stop, Graham hopped out rather quickly and the driver sped off before Graham could even close the door. He could feel his heart racing, was he really about to sneak into a girl's room, and not only sneak in, sneak her out. Graham might of been light on his feet, but he was not a sneaky person. Any time he tried to sneak downstairs on Christmas night he would end up tripping over the cat and waking up the whole house! And he never was able to catch a glimpse of Santa!

Graham took a deep breath, the sun was going down so at least that would be on his side. He wore all black as to camouflage himself, pulling his hoodie up over his head and started walking towards Meera's. It was only a matter of time till his death, he was sure of that.

Meera had said she would leave the window to her room open so he would know which one was her bedroom. A sinking feeling fell in his stomach. 'this is a really bad idea'. Graham looked up to the house in front of him, seeing that their was a window open. And he could of sworn he saw long black hair float by, making the feeling in his stomach completely disappear.

He quickly began to make a plan, standing in the front yard would be the easiest place for him to be spotted so he started calculating. Meera's window happened to have a little over hang right below it and a tree next to the house that looked relatively easy to climb. He was able to quickly shimmy himself up the tree and jump to the roof, landing quietly but stumbling forward. He really didn't need to fall off a roof tonight of his sort of girlfriends house....

Graham poked his head in through the window to see Meera sitting at her desk, "Hey." He whispered. "So you ready for tonight?" His smiled widened at the sight of her, he couldn't believe someone like her would want to put up with him of all people. She could truly have anyone with her kindness.. Even if she didn't like, like him, he was the annoying friend, the one that couldn't sit still or stop talking to save his life.

Hayden and Lemon had spent the afternoon prepping for what would be a legendary bonfire. He was sure about that. Hayden chuckled at Lemon's optimistic and over all good attitude to her rather different name. Hayden hated that he couldn't ever find his own name on a keychain, but that was for different reasons, it wasn't like his parents named him after a sour fruit. "You know, despite your sour name, you have one of the best moods of everyone, not a single complaint about all this work!" He laughed at his own really bad dad joke, honestly he probably should of kept that one to himself.

The sun began to set, and a nice cool chill ran over the beach, "I think it's almost time to start the bonfire." He smirked, tossing Lemon the fire starter, "Would you like to do the honors?" He had a sly smirk upon his face, it didn't take much convincing from the small southern girl to douse the wood they had gathered in fire starter. It actually caught him a bit off guard at how quick she took to the opportunity.

Hayden then flicked a lit match into the wood pile, warning Lemon to take a step back so that neither of them lost their eyebrows before they even had a chance to party.

The fire came to life in front of their eyes, controlled, instant warmth, and flames roaring in shades of reds and oranges, their shadows dancing across the ground. "I think this would be the perfect night to take out my guitar." Okay, so Hayden was a bit of a show off, he wouldn't start playing it just yet. He just knew that he wouldn't ever find his way to his sister's car after a few drinks and figured it was better to grab it now, rather than waiting.

He quickly returned, carrying on light conversation with Lemon till her friend arrived, completely diverting her attention, Hayden waited to be introduced

Apple... Juice.. Where were these parents getting their names from. Any other day, Hayden would of guessed that Apple Juice was just a nickname, however after meeting Lemon, all of his assumptions would more than likely be wrong. "Hey!" He smiled pulling a hand out of his jean pocket to wave to the blonde that had just joined them. "It's nice to meet you Apple Juice!" He said way to confidently. "Or do you prefer to go by AJ?" He raised an eyebrow, he wanted to make sure that he wasn't calling her something that she hated.
