Fantasy The Journey of Terra - Character

Main
Here

krsna250

Junior Member
Very briefly it begins with a young Earth mage - Terra, who is on a journey to find the Arcane (a mage subtype using powers of mind control or illusion) who murdered her childhood friend. However, her friend is not dead. She had gone to the site of his death a few days after and sculpted his favorite animal as a kind of memorial. His soul entered the sculpture, giving rise to a living clay creature with his consciousness. He accompanies her to find the killer, and to gain some information about how to return him to his original body.

The characters needed are:

The role of the animal/friend

The role of a fire mage with incredible but mysterious/dangerous power that meets them in the woods and joins their party. He should be on his own mission/have his own objective in relation to a larger political issue (e.g. He's been stripped of all authority due to threat of his abilities; Suppression of a particular race or mage-type; Something sinister is brewing, etc. Be creative. )

2 other party member roles with unique backgrounds and objectives.

The Arcane mage.

Characters supporting or playing a part in the Arcane mage's unique story. (Could be slaves, siblings, romantic interests, friends, colleagues, council members, etc. ) OR The Arcane character can be added later in the RP.

Background

In the beginning there were only 4 classes among those magically inclined. The Earth benders, who dominated the small, rustic villages in the Grasslands. Their power great in property but limited. To use an excessive amount means the slow transformation of their body into bark, until they joined their ancestors in the woods. (As trees :P) They specialise in basic weapon and hand-to-hand combat. The water-benders, nomadic by nature they are scattered in clans along the waterways. Their lives tied to their capability to remain in regular contact with, or retain enough water in their systems - which they lose at a faster rate than others. The Fire benders, a proud nation - once holding the highest positions on the country's Council but now forced to hide in caves and slums to avoid the oppressive Arcane. They were the most powerful of the mages, their inability to keep their skin from burning and melting (with pain felt) while using their magic, easily countered by their fast-healing trait.

The Arcane seemed to come out of no where. A race like nothing the world had ever seen. Quickly rising to power, they let no individual step out of line.

Feel free to make this your own! Characters not like those mentioned about are absolutely fine ! Just link them in someway to the character Terra, and make it your own. Go wild ! Get creative.

Name: Terra'di of the Northern Grasslands

Class/Race: Earth Mage
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Orientation: Straight

History:
Terra'di was daughter to the chief of the Earth village in the Northern parts of the Grasslands. Her childhood had been full of the joy offered to those who played in the warm, sun-kissed meadows and lived a simple life rich with family. In their village family extended to all.

During the day, the men would tend the fields while the woman took to creating great works of pottery or architecture. At night they would dance with merry around the fires, beating drums that rivaled a storm, and feasting on the days work.

Terra'di herself passed by days playing with the other village children, learning from her mother and father, and sneaking off to the no-longer-flowing river bed near the Ancestors forest. There she would sink her fingers and toes into the remaining mud in order to bring to life a multitude of realistic sculptures. As she grew up she became known for her adventurous spirit. Her and her best friend would race across the wide expanse of land, in search of unknown havens in which to explore.

On one such a day they arrived at a lake, outlined with large rock-faces. Terra sat on a rock to take out the lunch they had prepared earlier while her friend dove into the cool waters. Not long passed before an Arcane mage appeared, and for what seemed like a simple desire to toy with the youth, he spun an illusion that killed the unsuspecting swimmer. (To be elaborated on when we get started.) Returning to that spot a few days later, in anguish Terra sculpted their favorite animal which promptly gained a life of its own.

Personality: (Strengths & Weaknesses & Traits):

Terra is stubborn, strong willed and determined. Due to her upbringing she is athletic by nature, a strong runner, swimmer and climber. She has some knowledge of plants but, not being one to sit and learn a bunch of information, she cannot be attributed with the skill of some of her fellows. Instead she trained in hand-to-hand combat and basic weapons.

She was groomed to carry on in her late fathers place as chief of the village, but a desire to assist her friend and a heart fueled by revenge has paused those plans.
She isn't quick to give up a grudge but is kind-hearted by nature. Her anger isn't difficult to spark. Her knowledge of the outside world is very limited and in the intellectual
category she has few points.

Her experience in hunting has left her with sharp vision, the ability to move silently and acute hearing. She is swift and has a talent for gymnastic feats. She is an excellent sculptor. She is devoutly honest and diplomatic with a deep sense of pride in her responsibilities and her people. She doesn't know if yet but she is one of the extremely rare Earth mages able to infuse things with life.

Personal Mission/ What does your character want?: To take revenge on the Arcane mage and to return her friend to their body.

Relationships: Childhood friend :

Inventory: Backpack with food provisions, a map, a small clay water flask, medical supplies, rope and a long bamboo staff.

Appearance : Skin tone is lighter than below, more of a burnt caramel. Brown eyes. A simple tights and tunic outfit. Barefoot.julie-lafeuille-white-dreadlocks-07.jpg

Character Sheet

Name:
Wailani (Wuh-lawn-ee)
Would much rather you call her by her nickname Lani
((very loosely translated from Hawaiian to mean Heavenly Waters))

Class/Race (The type of magic you use. You can also be a non-magic user in a Magic-type area eg. Human in a Water Mage group):
Water Mage/Bender

Age:
18 | Eighteen

Gender:
Female

Orientation:
Heterosexual

History:
There was a storm brewing over the ocean, close to the shore. Wailani's mother and father had been walking the in the surf when her mother's first contraction came. Wailani was born one summer night on the shores of a secluded beach. Her first cry was synonymous with the first crack of thunder. Her parents named her the next morning when the storm had passed and the sea had settled.
The waters were more blue than they had ever seen and calmer than any other waters they could remember, hence the name Wailani, Heavenly Waters. Although no one ever calls her that. She goes by and demands that every one just call her Lani.

Her childhood was fun and carefree. She was very loved by her parents and, dare she say, spoiled. As the only child, she was doted on and adored beyond measure. She spent most of her days swimming, diving, playing with the other tribe children, helping her mother with any medicinal needs the tribe had (her mother was the tribe healer), exploring new areas if they had moved regions, piddling on the string instrument her father had made her, or training her bending skills with the chieftain, who just happened to be her father.

Her tribe was one of the smaller, lesser known water tribes and because of this, they were an extremely close knit group and she considered her tribe her family, but it also led to a very sheltered lifestyle. She never traveled beyond her tribe and was forbidden from going farther than where the chieftain said. Although they were known for their nomadic lifestyle, for the most part, her tribe only moved five to six times a year. Their lifestyle was one of tranquility and fluidity. They moved and adapted to the changes rather than fight them. There was never a rush for anything and growing up, Wailani can't remember a time when things were hectic or panicked.

As the the shaman's apprentice, on Lani's eighteenth birthday, she was supposed to participate in a ceremony (basically for looks only) formally initiating her as the next tribe shaman (healer), the one who heals all wounds, brings life into the world, and carries the dying to the other side. Her tribe did not allow women as chieftains. She spent the day before the ceremony swimming and diving (before she became to busy to do it). She must have stayed gone all day, because when Lani returned to her village at nightfall, it had been completely deserted. There was no one. They were all gone, even her parents. There were signs of a struggle. The leaves and bamboo from their huts ripped off. Some were set on fire and black smoke was billowing out blotting out the evening sun. Pots shattered, food and household items strewn across the ground everywhere she looked. But no blood. No bodies. Everyone had vanished.

Wailani must have sobbed well into the early hours of the morning, but the fear that whoever had done this would return drove her to pack some of her things and leave. With no idea where to go or what to do, she's basically searching for her tribe without a clue where to look.

Personality: (Strengths & Weaknesses & Traits):

Good News:
1. Sweet
2. Generous
3. Friendly
4. Adventurous
5. Creative
6. Hardworking
7. Fast Learner
8. Funny
9. Hopeless romantic
10. Cries over everything (Happy, excited, touched, etc.)

Bad News:
1. Naive
2. Sheltered
3. Scared
4. Extremely sensitive
5. Wears her heart on her sleeve
6. Too trusting of others even if she doesn't know them that well
7. Can sometimes be sarcastic
8. Uses humor in situations when you probably shouldn't
9. Never been in love (or relationship for that matter)
10. Cries over everything (Sad, angry, hurt, etc.)

Typically Wailani is super friendly and outgoing. She has a sharp wit and her typical humor is usually something sarcastic or biting followed by a laugh and a hug to make up for it. She enjoys making people laugh and can be quite obnoxious if she wants to be. The loss of her tribe and her recent isolation has made her withdraw into herself somewhat. She has a maternal nature and mothers those closest to her. She gets a strange sense of peace and happiness when others depend on her and need her.

Due to her upbringing with her tribe, she's used to hardwork and a little adventure. While she's not the best hunter, she can set basic traps, but she knows how to cook up a storm. She also knows how to use her water magic for healing purposes. She's athletic due to eighteen years of nothing but swimming, running, diving, or climbing. She has no idea how to use a weapon or her fists, but she was gifted in water bending, although she's never used that as a weapon either.

Thanks to her sheltered and spoiled lifestyle, Lani is overly sensitive, as no one had been particularly mean or hateful towards her among her tribe. She values all of her friends though and can be quite affectionate (she's something of a hugger) and territorial. The unknown scares her and since she's never been anywhere outside of her tribe, that narrows it down to basically the whole world, but she possess a strong spirit and sharp mind, so she trudges on anyways.

Appearance:
She has hair like her father and eyes like her mother. Tan skin. Around 5'7. She has a tattoo of an intricately designed feather (represents the shaman) surrounded by tendrils of water (because of the obvious). All tribe members get them on their fifteenth birthday (when a tribe member turns 15, they officially start apprenticing under a certain trade) symbolizing their specific trade surrounded by the tendrils of water. This is a special ceremony amongst her tribe. She is unsure if other tribes have the same ceremony.

Personal Mission/ What does your character want?:
She wants to find her tribe and those responsible for what happened to them.

Relationships:
No one, save for her missing family and tribe

Inventory:
She carries her mother's shaman staff, she wears her father's chieftains cloak, a bag that contains mostly skins of water and some food provisions, and a conch shell (for sentimental reasons).

THE KNOWLEDGE SEEKER
Gwyddon The Jack
Ever so hopeful, but incapable of handling the treachery of the road alone.

Name:
Gwyddon Coxotter

Class/Race:
Human (Non-Mage Earthbender born a Squib) | Jack Class

Age:

Twenty One

Gender:
Male

Orientation:
Aromantic (Looking to keep it platonic, sorry-)

History:
Born to the Coxotter lineage, a family living in a tiny secluded village on the eastern side of the Grasslands. They were a proud people, thriving on seclusion and the fact that they needed no other villages to aid in their survival. His family was no exception. While his siblings went on to become incredibly proficient with their magic, Gwyddon was forced to come to the unfortunate realization that he had no magic to his name by the age of five. There was no disheartening banishment to force the young boy into angst, however. He was welcomed with open arms despite of his 'weakness', encouraged to find his own path among them.

He took to trying to figure out how he could contribute with excitement. After working with the village Apothecary for a while, he took to the tutelage of their local smith shortly after to learn how to handle metals. When he wasn't working with medicine or forging he would sit with the village elders, listening to their lessons. Though he never found an occupation where he excelled, he was decent enough at helping everyone that he found value in just floating around and helping wherever an extra hand was needed. By the time he got tired of being a drifter, his family gave him something else to do.

It was his siblings who introduced him to archery and helped him carve his bow. Invited to join them after a month of trying and failing to make his arrows fly straight, it was during the hunt for animals to feed their village that Gwyddon's proficiency with the bow came to light. It was his way to contribute, one he felt proud about and didn't tire of doing. But during a particularly difficult hunting trip, that pride died along with his eldest sister Vika's arm. When a bear was angered by a young earth mage's poorly timed thrown rock, Gwyddon took it upon himself to distract it to allow the boy to run away to safety. Much slower than the creature, he was quickly cornered until his sister intervened. Unfortunately, Vika used too much magic in the process. Though they left the woods with a large bear for food, it came at the cost of Vika's left arm becoming bark.

Though his sister didn't blame him for her beginning transformation into a tree, Gwyddon didn't take it so well. Feeling guilty and grieving that he was soon to lose his sister and even his entire family eventually, he took to study with an obsessive vigour. He sought a means to slow the transformation into a tree, even if it meant being spiteful towards his ancestors in the process. So intent was he to find his answer that he effectively pushed everyone around him away to avoid interruptions. By the time that he decided that he needed to leave the village to find the information he was looking for, there was no one to stop him.

Leaving a note to tell his family where he'd gone, he left in the middle of the night exactly a year later, first venturing all through the grasslands to see if any healers had any information or texts that could help him in his quest. He did, however, hear in passing how some believed that The Arcane possessed some valuable texts in regards to curbing the weaknesses in each type of magic, "Keeping the information for themselves". As low as the odds were that the rumour was true, Gwyddon chose to give it a try, gathering up his things and heading for the great unknown.

Personality: (Strengths & Weaknesses & Traits):
Gwyddon is curious and intuitive, with mental resilience that makes taking up various trades at once less of a difficulty and more of an enjoyable challenge. He's a caring individual who will go to great lengths for the people he cares about, to the point of going without or facing his worst fears if it could potentially help them. He doesn't let failure hold him back and feels the need to keep trying to succeed - this especially comes from being the first non-mage born to his family. He is a quick learner, but doesn't seem to ever master anything. Despite being caring, he is the type that can swallow his feelings for the greater good if need be. This can make him come off as cruel, but it does aid him in making tough decisions quickly. Emotions are a driving factor in his decision-making process.

Unfortunately, he is impulsive with obsessive tendencies. He'll do something without weighing all the consequences first, or get so involved in doing something that everything else becomes devoid of importance for him until that task is completed. His caring nature can also be undermined by a more selfish endeavour - as, his urge to help his sister also stems from him fearing for the day his entire family become trees and leave him alone. Additionally, despite of his resilience against failure, should that resilience be broken, Gwyddon doesn't know how to go about repairing it. He's so used to being the strong and smart one that, without those two defining traits, he feels lost.

Clearly, he has a lot of growing to do on his journey.

His 'Jack of All Trades' skill set allows him some flexibility in what he can bring to a group. This being said, that same skill set means that he will never be an expert in any real area. The only thing that comes 'close' to that level is his Archery. (His actual skillset includes/is limited to Archery, Minor Weapon Enhancement, Basic Medicine Crafting, Basic First Aid, and will eventually include Looting. His role is meant to be a support character).

Appearance:
Standing at 6'0" in height, Gwyddon has fluffy, curly black hair with bangs that often fall into his eyes. It almost always looks like he just got out of bed but it falls just enough to not look like a nightmarish mess. His skin is tan with an uneven undertone (Yellow undertone in some places and a red undertone in others), but has natural reddish blush-like hues on his eyelids, elbows, knees, and chest. His facial structure is sharp, with freckles dusted across his cheeks and nose, with green eyes that have gold ring around the iris. His body type is lanky with the average muscle tone of a male that engages in regular exercise. He has two scars: one over his nose and another that splits his right eyebrow from a hunting accident when he was younger.

He wears a brown tunic embellished with green and gold embroidery, with a green hooded cape to help protect him from the elements. His pants aren't by any means anything but an aesthetic piece, as the bottom half is slit open and laced together, still showing the skin underneath. His brown boots are short and weathered, covered in patches with odd-looking designs as an attempt to revive the lovingly worn footwear. His quiver is almost always worn beneath the cape and is plain brown, no details added to it whatsoever. A gold earring is present in his left ear.

Personal Mission/ What does your character want?:
His abandonment of his home resulted after the loss of his older sister's arm - the limb replaced with bark after overusing her magic. He seeks out a remedy to slow the gradual transformation of Earth mages into one of the trees but needs more knowledge than can be found in the Grasslands, as he feels that the people there have (mostly) resigned themselves to their fates. He suspects that any of the texts that could aid him in his journey might have been acquired and hidden away by the Arcane Mages to keep Earth Mages inline.

He's realistic to know, however, that the information may not actually exist. But he still feels the need to try.

Relationships:
[Will come back to it]

Inventory:
- Self-Carved Bow
- Leather Pouch (x2)
- Quiver
- Arrows (x20)
- Knife, Twine, Sharpening Stone.

Gender:

Orientation:
Asexual

History:
Naraku was born to a human noblewoman and her lover. Angered by her fraternization with another man, her own guardsman, pierced her with a spear on the very night of his birth. She had just enough strength to give birth to Naraku before succumbing to her mortal wounds, though she was soon saved by her lover. Yet in return, his suffering from his own mortal wounds from a climactic battle with the guardsman had just enough time left to name the newborn Naraku and say goodbye to the infant and his mother before sending his small family away. He perished that night, using the last of his strength to prevent the guardsmen from pursuing them, leaving Naraku to be raised by his mother.

Naraku's childhood was very lonely, save for his interaction with his mother. Being a bastard, Naraku was accepted neither by his in-laws nor his own family. Ostracized by all humans except for his mother, he was devastated when she died while he was still young. He was left with only the Robe of the Fire-Rat she had received from his father. Unable to fight back as a child, Naraku was often forced into hiding whenever he encountered hostile-looking men. Such situations left him frustrated at being powerless to defend himself until he was older. Because of this, he developed a hostile and defensive personality.

Personality:
N
araku, born of a great bloodline, possessed the perfect power that many desired. Because of this, he was always composed and confident in his power, displaying a calm, calculating personality at almost all times. His calmness often kept his thoughts clear of emotional influence. His air of aloofness and indifference was a product of dignity that only one of such rare demonic power could possess. Naraku was more or less emotionless, with only anger, annoyance, and dissatisfaction showing on his face. Because both his heart and body were so strong, he had no desire whatsoever to own any kind of power other than his, nor to conspire with allies.

In battle, he judged his enemy's power level and attacked with the minimum power necessary. Anyone in his way was considered an enemy he would exterminate without hesitation. He did not hold back his power, even against women. He rationalized that all his prey was the same, and defeated them accordingly. For one with such pride in his power, cooperation was proof of weakness, and being alone was a condition for the strong. Once he judged someone as an obstacle, he was quick to kill without hesitation. Naraku had a very inquiring mind when there was something he cared about, but at the same time, he had almost no tenacity of purpose. If he became interested in something else, he would arbitrarily turn his back on what he was doing, even during battle. Just like his fighting style, he was quick to make decisions and act on them immediately.
Personal Mission:
His home back that was taken from him by the arcane.
Relationships:
TBR
Inventory:
B
andages; Water; Food.
Appearance:
6'0; masculine; strong facial features; Long hair.
