The Inn at the Edge of the World (OOC)

Adelaide is referred to a lot as "they" and only very rarely as "she". Are they gender fluid or something? Because that's the only time I've heard people refer to someone as "they" or "them" in an endearing way.
That was intentional, so as to help prevent accidentally assuming biologically female (as we are only reading/writing text), as well trying to introduce them with out needless flamboyancy (not that there is anything wrong with that either ;) ).

[QUOTE="Teh Frixz]Oh man oh man. Lyke will tear into that like a wild dog and an unattended infant.

Sorry, which aspect are they likely to tear into; their appearance, how fluid they are or their nature in general? As an aside, they are presenting female, if not necessarily confirming to gendered stereotypes. I tried to express that by Adelaide shaving with the knife prior to meeting the group (naturally blonde assists in this regard), but not engaging with frivolities such as curtsying: she is a pragmatic, intellectual, working woman in dangerous company, after all.

Lyke, at best of times a bigot, especially towards other women. She overcompensates heavily and anyone shirking what she sees as natural gender she approaches with spite, mocking attitude, and often physical violence. She dislikes homosexual men, Laman society, and people pretending to be something something they aren't. She's not even that friendly to real women so a male presenting as female she takes as an insult to herself. Sort of a how dare you kind of attitude.

She's not cosmopolitan, she's not liberal in a traditional sense, she has issues with other women, mommy issues, and has murdered and preyed on the weak and helpless. Lyke even spent time preying on the carts and pages of the Iron Thorns. She's not a good person.

They aren't exclusively for that demographic, they are also made up of women who are not content with the status of women within that strata of society.

@Teh Frixz (Un)fair enough. Adelaide would have encountered similar attitudes, if not direct violence. Not having to hear the vitriol may be a blessing, but they will undoubtedly have antagonism towards each other initially from the sounds of it.

Ok, that makes a bit more sense in context. I was having a hard time stomaching that a group of knights were being funded for that specific purpose, seemed a but too eccentric for reality.

Normally it means Human Intelligence, intel you get directly from people's testimonies. Whether they're freely given or coerced is an entirely different matter.

HUMINT is as you say. It was wordplay on the Militaires Sans Frontières (French for Soldiers Without Borders) from Metal Gear Solid, with Militaire dans les Frontières (Soldiers in the Borders), since the party suggested heading into the east, known in setting as the Frontier.

Though the notion doesn't exist in setting per se, if a mercenary band were to become big enough, they would effectively become a private military company (PMC), like MSF.

I'm kinda hoping we do get that big, that way I can have Abram as a captain of sorts. I can honestly see him trying to teach dueling techniques to other soldiers like he was taught. And on the side he'd be a houndsman so he can send in his squad of men and dogs into the front lines for a massacre.

It'll be interesting if we do start heading that way. A larger size company and all that. Management might become the biggest enemy and I don't know how skilled we all are with that.

OOC I'm fairly decent with that, but Abram himself is more of a soldier than an officer, yknow? Of course he might grow into that role over time.

A soldier could still lead men. Lyke would be out of her element and probably turn some element of the company into run of the mill bandits.

Hey, come on now. They wouldn't be bandits, they're 'acquisition specialists'. It's all about phrasing.

We're explicitly heading for big proper company, IIRC, and I am on board with the idea of founding/taking over a Frontier village.

Osric is, afterall, still in a noblesse oblige sort of mindset.

Which name should Osric be using, Bardiel? Just want to double check in case I confused myself.

@Grey She used Silkhand, since that is what he goes by now. He'll either recognise her or not, and if so, use her name or the birth name. If it is the former, they get along and original identities are kept secret. If it is the latter, then things become more problematic. Off hand, I am expecting they may have run into each other with different companies before, so she wouldn't come as a surprise to him.

As an aside, Adelaide has the most skill in the administration side of things of the group, as far as I am aware, and indeed the role I was hoping for she would assume, especially in a larger company.

I will be inserting scenarios and mechanics for building up and using a large mercenary group and possible holdings, as that was the main intent of this game. It'll probably get a wee bit technical on my end, but only as technical as you or your characters make it on yours.
