The Hanyo and the Miko

Kagome was shocked that she would probably end up having the 'birds and bees' talk with someone that wasn't even her child. "With Shippo." Kagome teased her friend, suppressing a giggle. "I'm just asking if you ever thought about having them some day. Do you see yourself as a father?" She shook her head. "Forget it."

"I haven't really thought about me being a... a father," He said, uncomfortably. He was relieved when Kagome decided to drop the topic. The brief discussion, however, raised several uncomfortable questions in the back of the hanyo's mind, though he tried to push those thoughts aside.

Kagome yawned a bit. "Hmm, I think I'll go take a nap, unless you need me for something." There was a small rustling from the bushes, which then turned out to be Shippo again. But, something was wrong. His eyes were glazed over and his skin was grey. "Shippo!" Kagome scooped the kitsune up into her arms. "Shippo, what's wrong with you? Shippo!" She looked at Inuyasha for help. "What's wrong with him?!" Shippo had fallen limp.

"What the heck happened?!" Inuyasha rushed over to the little fox demon, his eyes widened with surprise. Shippo must have been attacked! Why ever did they let him go back into the forest by himself?! "Hes still alive, we need to bring him into one of the huts!"

Kagome wasted no time. She rushed back to Kaede's dwelling and began her work. "Shippo, what happened?" She started rummaging through the herbs that the elder had. "I know that he's been poisoned. It's not a physical attack." She stirred a concoction. "We'll need patience. Antidotes don't always work right away." She poured what she had into her friend's mouth. "He should be able to tell us who did this."

"Poisoned? By what, some kind of Miasma?" Inuyasha asked, now positively alarmed. No... it was more than likely just some regular demon he met in the forest. Inuyasha mentally cursed himself for being worried for even a split second that it had been the Spider Hanyo, Naraku. Naraku was dead, that was the end to it.

Kagome noticed that quickly. "No. Naraku and his incarnations are all gone. We saw him disappear." She heard Shippo cough, then moan. "It wasn't Naraku." He finally wheezed. "It was some kid. A little girl, I think." He blushed, embarrassed that he let such a thing like that get to him. "I'm sorry, you guys." He hid his face. Kagome nodded. "Shippo, it's okay, but don't leave the village alone again." She knew the feeling of being in love, even though Shippo's was strange.

Inuyasha, though relieved to see that Shippo seemed okay, was amused that Shippo had been poisoned by a kid. He seemed to find Shippo's crushes to be a source of high entertainment. "HA, and here I was thinking that it was serious. You let yourself get poisoned by a kid?" Inuyasha began sniggering. "Guess all that training hasn't helped ya much, Shippo."

"HEY!" Shippo was on his feet in an instant. "You're one to talk! At least I didn't get stabbed through the shoulder with a sacred arrow by my crush, half-demon!" He was pointing at the hanyo. Kagome rubbed her temples. "SIT!" She didn't like what Inuyasha said. Then, she turned on Shippo. "Come on. Don't stoop to his level." Shippo got the easy way out. "Sorry, Kagome." He honestly didn't have to apologize, since InuYasha started it.

It seemed that the reference to Kikyo hadn't been a smart move on Shippo's part... "You'd better run, Shippo, because you're in for one heck of a beating," Inuyasha growled, making a furious swipe at the little kitsune. However, he froze midway as Kagome's sit commanded sounded through the home. Yet again, the painful sensation of being forcible pulled to the ground befell Inuyasha once more. He slammed into the floor, rather hard. "Darnit Kagome..." He growled, pushing himself from off the ground.

"I'm sorry, but you did insult him, Inuyasha." Kagome helped him up. "I'll be more careful next time, but you have to learn." She felt a little bad that she used the command so freely. "I won't use it again, unless you deserve it." Kagome yawned. "Hmmm. I'm still tired. Where are we sleeping tonight, Inuyasha?"

"Darnit, three years and I still have this necklace on! I don't see why you can't just take this this thing off..." Inuyasha grumbled, briefly glaring at Shippo. It was rather ironic, of course. After all this time, Kagome could still keep him at bay with the sit command. Inuyasha sighed, leaning against the wall.

"Suppose we can rest her in the village for now."

Kagome nodded. "Well, I hope you can see why I still have to keep it on you, Inuyasha." She walked behind him and wrapped her arms around his neck. "I'm too tired to keep walking." Kagome's had a busy day, with the birth of the twins and then healing Shippo, the miko was out of it. "Can you carry me?"

Inuyasha's expression softened. It indeed seemed that his lover was rather fatigued. And there was certainly no doubt why, it had been a rather long day. "Sure Kagome." He lifted her onto his back, gently. Giving the others a curt nod, the hanyo strode out of this structure, intending to take Kagome to one of the free huts in Kagome's village.

Kagome made a small noise as she was lifted, but said nothing more for a while, slowly drifting off. "Thank you." She finally managed to whisper through long periods of snoozing. The sound of the twins drifted away from her ears. "Hey. At least we'll be able to get some sleep tonight. It's too bad for Sango and Miroku, though." That's not how she truly felt, but, having discussed the hanyo already, she decided not to bring it up. "How do you have so much energy so late?"

"Don't mention it..." Inuyasha could have sighed in relief once the sounds of the wailing twins finally died out as they moved towards a different building in the village. He definitely agreed that Sango and Miroku were going to have quite a bit of trouble getting to sleep, of course having no idea of Kagome's other thoughts. "I dunno," He replied, shrugging at Kagome's new question. "Guess it comes from being part demon. I've got energy to burn." He gently. Upon entering the hut, Inuyasha gently layed Kagome down upon one of the sheets, so that she could get some rest.

Kagome shivered a little and then rolled herself up like a little burrito and tried going to sleep again. Once It was clear that Kagome was In a dead sleep, she clearly mumbled Inuyasha's name. Hours later, she woke up again, having more energy now. "Are you sure you don't get tired of going from one village to the next every night?" Kagome rubbed her eyes. "I know some humans aren't your biggest fans, but you should have some place to go to every night. I like sleeping in huts like this. Not that trees or caves aren't nice, but this feels more comfortable."

It seemed that even demons got a bit of rest from time to time, as Inuyasha had apparently dozed off for some hours, whilst in a sitting position several feet from Kagome. He had woken up several minutes before she did, feeling rejuvenated. "I'm not really for staying in the same place. Just doesn't feel right, to be honest," Inuyasha said, truthfully. He hardly liked to stay the night in the same place, and was generally on the move.

Kagome nodded. "Well, I guess that makes sense, but it's a good thing that you generally hang out in the same area." After all, each time she left the Feudal Era, he was at her home in a matter of hours. She crawled toward him, then, as soon as she was sitting right next to Inuyasha, Kagome rested her head on his shoulder. "Three years since we beat him. I can't believe he went out like he did. He looked so sad, really. I felt bad for him." The miko hated to admit it. "Loving someone that didn't love you back. Must be terrible."

"The jewel never granted him his true wish... In the end, no matter how despicable he had been, he was still part human..." Inuyasha said, putting his arm around Kagome. The thought that he had just felt even the smallest amount of pity for Naraku slightly sickened the Hanyo. However, it was true that Naraku himself had been manipulated by the Shikon jewel in the end. Naraku's true feelings for Kikyo had been used against him, because the jewel merely wanted to remain in existence...

Kagome's statement brought something else into Inuyasha's mind. Something that, although technically was resolved now that he and the miko were now together, still made his insides burn with guilt whenever it crossed his mind.

"Kagome..." Inuyasha began, "Back... back when we were still hunting Naraku, three years ago... when Kikyo was still alive... Did I ever make you feel like that? Like I didn't love you?" He asked, softly.

Kagome knew that the question of her jealousy would rear its ugly head again. "Inuyasha, you know how I felt." She whispered, pulling her knees up to her thighs and resting her head on her knees. "I wish I could say that I was never jealous, but I was. I was also confused because everyone used to call me 'Kikyo' and you did too. I thought you'd go with her on multiple occasions." She closes her eyes sleepily. "I felt like staying in my world if you did." After a while, she spoke again. "You know, I don't keep coming back for Sango, Miroku and Shippo anymore. I come back here to see you too." Kagome felt stupid for admitting that. "I know you have a hard time saying certain things, but I know what you mean without even saying it."

Inuyasha gave Kagome a meaningful look, but said nothing. Back then, he did have a hard time saying things, especially to Kagome. He still did, to an extent, at least. He hadn't trusted her when they had first met... she reminded him too much of the woman that he had lost. But overtime, she had healed the wounds that had been left upon his heart, and had opened him up to joy that he never thought he'd experience once more. Her love had made him feel.. alive, it allowed him to trust again. The hanyo moved forward, kissing her, expressing his current emotions beyond words.

Kagome hardly had time to react. At first, she was just lost for words at the affection that Inuyasha was showing her. After a long time, Kagome let go, thinking of where they would be five to ten years from now. "You know, I never saw Miroku and Sango getting together. I never saw you changing your attitude toward being a half-demon, to be honest." Kagome laid her head against Inuyasha' s chest. "I never thought Sesshomaru would give up on Tessaiga." Everything changed over time since the gang first got together. "Hopefully, even more will change."

It was bliss in its purest form. For a moment, Inuyasha didn't care about anything else... just the person in front of him. He took a breath as she let go. "Your arrival in this world caused a lot of changes, Kagome... and all of it was for the better. I'm sure there's more to come." Inuyasha warmly embraced Kagome. What would be ahead for them in the future? The half-demon had a few ideas in mind... but they made Inuyasha a tad bit nervous at the thought. What if... he did just decide to settle into a village, rather than constantly on the move?

"Kagome... I've thought a little bit about what you said earlier," He began. "About just staying in one village, instead of traveling around a lot. If I decided to do that, what would you think about.... living with me?" Inuyasha seemed to only just realize what he had said. "Uh, nevermind that. Listen, we should probably go check on the others."

Kagome tilted her head to the side, smiling still. "Hold on, Inuyasha. You aren't serious, are you?" It would feel awkward to the priestess to live in a home with someone that she wasn't married or related to in any way. "I-I mean, I'm glad that we would have a permanent place to stay, but if it makes you uncomfortable, why would you do that?" She wasn't going to let him drop the subject. "We don't have to go anywhere. We just saw them yesterday."
