[The Grid] OOC

And that will be the end of that story. You may all refresh any virtue channels you spend, renew temporary willpower to max, and heal any lingering wounds. We will resume shortly.

I more imagined Kase to be a sorcerer, though him learning something like Ill Lily Style or Night Breeze Style isn't out of the question, either.

So, what's everyone planning on learning? Hopefully it won't all be the exact same thing...

5 Dragons it is.

Everyone, Chapter 2 is up and running. I'm going to shift Chapter 1 into the archives shortly.

I spent more XP just so I had everything covered. This included Resistance dots, but I ignored them for the roll I just made to stand... I figured the strain of truly learning to walk and such is what ends up justifying the dots.

I'm pretty sure somewhere in the IC thread most of you had the Solar exaltation thing explained to you. In case you didn't, you all know the basics now.

For the two who haven't posted yet, you can either wake up in the bunk room. There's other people there who will lead you around and give you different information and backstory. Or you can just decide your characters were with the others all along. It's not a big enough deal to be an issue.

Please be careful to label your die rolls. It makes it easier to follow combat.

Edit: Exhausted. Real post coming in the morning.

Arynne: Manip + Presence, specialty non-applicable. You can use Charisma if you want, but there's a external penalty of 2 for it for various reasons.

I don't think that went the way you guys wanted it to, so if you don't mind, I'll give you a bit of a read from my perspective.

You went in for a good round of hardball. Erin came out attacking with what interrogators call "Shock and Awe" techniques. Basically, you impress the target that you know more than them by an undisclosed amount. It can be very effective, and fits well with her aggressive, offensive mannerisms.

Unfortunately, she made three significant mistakes. The first being that she was the only one who knew S Whitfield from before, and S recognized her. Ms Whitfield knew that Erin was more or less normal earlier, and made some guesses based on knowing the time interval between them. Secondly, Erin's Manipulation is only a 3, which combined with a penalty for attacking, was low enough that SW could easily surpass it with a high margin on some reactionary perception rolls. Finally, that penalty came about due to a couple of gaffs in how she played her shock and awe attack. See especially her initial post and the initial reaction to it. Anyway, the end result is she attacked hard, came up flat, and suddenly not only was her target more confident than before, she also took an intense dislike to Erin. On a tangential note, this also didn't play to Erin's strength. Her Presence specialty in persuasion doesn't directly apply to demands, where as her Performance specialties in story telling and singing were likewise non-applicable. The singing one would have been hard to use, but story telling could have been incorporated with a good stunt. ("Let me tell you a story, Ms Whitfield. A story of before, and what will come again...") Presence would have required a softer touch, with far more finesse.

Patrick unfortunately likewise made a couple of tactical mistakes. He used a "you're a rookie and need to show us what you've got" approach to SW, who was already in her place of power and already feeling confident after defeating Erin's attack. The other one was more mechanical, in that he's got no points into Presence. There was no chance he could hit without matching up with an intimacy or motivation.

Finally, Kase came in with a like tactic. Again he was mechanically light on Social skills. She was on the cusp of throwing you out and calling the police, but Kase drops the hook which happens to match neatly with either an intimacy or motivation of hers, and that slips the idea past her DVs.

Now, if you're going to do a strong social attack, everyone coming in on the same page is exactly what you want to do. Your demands were all in lockstep, and there was no intraparty conflict for her to use against you. That was very well done. Unfortunately, it's a big gamble. If it blows, you've made a lot of hard feelings. SW was very unhappy with you. You accused her of attempted murder which never makes any friends. When your attack didn't work, you had a lot of ill will against you. Also you probably want to be a lot cagier on an initial approach. Ask questions without revealing ignorance.

Anyway, not to dwell on that, you've got some options before you. You can leave, sneak back in later, and ransack the place. It's good and actiony, and that seems to be what you guys like doing. Secondly, there's this asylum thread she mentioned. Even if you can't make the rolls, it shouldn't be hard to guess what's going on. You can also try to fight her now. But she already alerted security, and the secretary mentioned the cops are on the line. Be careful of that one.

Finally, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, spend xp. You can download skills directly into your brains with no training time. There is no reason to have Abilities as fundamental as Presence or Integrity at one dot or less if you want to do any social interactions at all. Don't be afraid to buff your Attributes either. If you want to retry the SW interrogation, walk out, call Athena, upgrade your abilities in the parking lot, and come back in like new men. Or run one of the other options and then come back. You did learn that she has a thing for knowledge and is very cagy.

You got this, guys.

Total number of pages in the threads times 3, not including the page we're on. So 46*3 for 144 plus 6*3 for 18 or 162 total.

Arynne: Most of those are pretty straight forward investigation rolls. Feel free to stunt the details and roll Int + Investigation.
