Look, don't question the Light. Its reasonings are beyond petty things like "firearms" and "logic".
In all seriousness, my idea is that the firearms work only against normal monsters, who are weak. The stronger ones, the ones that the Void will send when it sees that the Light reached Earth before it, are way stronger.
