Futuristic The Deep Dark: A Space-Age, Galactic Freeroam RP

@Jarkov Malachai, sorry to see ya go man, and sorry things are taking so long. I appreciate you helping build this thing and I'll ask you about the Dredges to make sure they are being portrayed correctly. You're welcome back anytime.

Ill be sure to lurk about and say hi every now and again.

okay here is my "Alien" race that will be incorporated into my main character's bio.

Echan (pronounced AY-shan) (as in échanger, the french word for "to change" or "to swap")-

History- A race of (until recently) enslaved almost humans, the Echan were imagined up by a french genetic engineer who was researching how to make the human body better. Ultimately, his work branched off and he ended up taking normal human genes and improving them and changing some features (which I will cover) to create a whole other species. His work gained a lot of attention and funding, so he had access to the best equipment. Since the technology for making an organism from only genetic code already existed, and because he didn't need an army, he sold the genes to someone else. This group (I'm thinking OIGA or M.E.R.C.) bred about 50 of them to first test their fighting capabilities and loyalty. After lots of trail and error, they developed a system to get the best battlefield response and made a small army of around 1000 for special missions. This system involved a drug that made them nonresistant and a communications network they were all hooked up to. The comm was installed in the form of a cochlear speaker that directly connected to the Echan's auditory cortex in their brain (ie: they can always hear communications from superiors or other Echans). This comm network, mixed with the drugs, made the Echan nearly unable to control their own actions. Recently (approximately 3 years ago), however, they were all stolen and freed by a woman known as "The Red Princess," a notorious pirate. The Red Princess hired an extremely sought-after hacker and a group of highly trained mercs, hacked into the comm network with the help of the hacker, invaded the facility and basically herded a highly drugged group of Echan into transports (The hacker also managed to disrupt the local comm network between the imprisoner's people who were keeping the Echan, disallowing any communications between all of them and allowing them to infiltrate the facility with minimal resistance). When the drugs' effect waned and The Red Princess's team had removed all the Implants, she gave them a choice. They could either join her as pirates and smugglers (and get paid) or they could leave. Almost all of them stayed with The Red Princess, being extremely grateful, knowing they wouldn't know what to do if they weren't following some authority, and already being extremely prone to loyalty and follower-ship.

Biology- So, like I said, the Echan are basically modified Humans. They still only have four limbs and their basic body structure is relatively similar. However, there are a few changes. They have a lot less genetic variation and they have to be artificially bred, since it's impossible to create a female Echan. They have 14 fingers instead of 10, their legs are shaped a bit like dog's or horse's back legs (think quarian or turian back legs) for speed and balance. They also have more muscle growth in general and much quicker reflexes, a strong immune system and a digestive system that stores a portion of their food every time they eat (along with any extra water the Echan individual drinks) just in case its needed when there isn't any water or food available. Also -just a not-really-important side note- their taste buds can only detect flavors found in poison (This is because it will make it easier for the Echan to accept terrible tasting food, like the nutrition rations they were given while they were enslaved, and generally become more nourished. Also it allows them to taste poison easier). They also can see a slightly wider range of colors than humans, including infrared. They also have better night vision. This is because Their eyes have six to eight times more rod cells, which are more sensitive to low light, than normal humans do. In addition, their elliptical eye shape and larger corneas and tapetum, a layer of tissue that reflects light back to the retina, help gather more light as well. The Echan's skin has been improved also, it is completely resistant of UV rays and is much tougher. Echans almost have the epimorphic ability to regrow "Limbs," but this advancement wasn't quite as successful as the others. Epimorphis is an ability to regrow limbs after a period of relative shapelessness (Salamanders have this. Their tail starts growing as a mass of cells then develops into an actual tail), but for the Echan this is really only a usable ability with things like fingers or something like their nose.)

Now in terms of brain activity, other than increased reflexes, the Echan's are seriously lacking. In their development stage, they take more time to make neural passageways, which makes learning things harder (things that are habituary like speaking or tying your shoes or brushing your teeth) once they develop these passageways however, they stick, just like in a human brain. The portion of their brain that allows us to make independent and creative thought is underdeveloped as well. These brain underdevelopments were made on purpose by the scientist so that the Echan would never grow into a super race of humans and cause trouble.

(I'm really not in love with the profile photo, but it's the only near-human alien I could find with cat eyes -_- )

I was planning to ask her about that after we'd gotten @whitefoxkiller set up so we didn't have an overflow of additional info like we used to whenever we first started. In fact, @xMellowmint, since it seems you're interested in the RP, do you have any info or lore you'd like to add?

Oh what there was an OoC chat. MY BAD. None that I know of though. If you want me to add anything, I will. But of course, if you wanted to keep it in between you guys, I can leave so no worries! I actually never really did a furturistic roleplay sooo.... Maybe it is best. I can just watch though and learn the ways of how you roleplay. It's no problem. Really!

As far as the Echan go, I like them. Something to spice up the galaxy and cause some controversy as well to keep things interesting. Also like the red princess as well. Gives them a faction of sorts to be loyal to.

@xMellowmint, any contribution you may have would help, and you're welcome to join if you want. And don't worry about being new, as everybody starts somewhere. Just help out where you can and you'll do fine. I'll look over your character in just a minute and see if it passes muster.

I'm using the weekend to update things and get ahead while we can. I'll be getting Lore up to date, I've already posted my character, and I'll try to have a complete draft of the overview up by The end of the weekend. I'll post another character if needed, though I'll try to stick to one since the RP should keep me busy enough.

As far as our roster goes, the members include @Yesman, @AlphaDraco, @Quarantinetimer, @LeviathanL, @whitefoxkiller, @xMellowmint and myself. If you guys want I can bump the interest check and see if anybody else would like to join.

Right now, the main thing to discuss is RP mechanics and rules, so feel free to critique anything we have so far as we're nearing launch, and after we begin we probably won't be editing anything. That also means that any ideas you guys may have need to be thrown out now to look at them. As far as things go I think we have enough Lore and all to get started currently, unless you guys disagree.

Go ahead and let me know of your thoughts as soon as you see this post, because I'll probably be on for a while after.

As far back as anyone can remember, the Milky Way has always been active, races communicating, trading, and speaking with one another to further continued coexistence. It was always like a pool of water, affected by droplets of rain, such as humanity's arrival, or the sudden appearance of the Devorantem, but soon reverting back to it's original state of calm.

At least, that's what one would see on the surface.

Criminals kill, pulling the trigger on the gun daily. Lives are lost to the Devor constantly, entire colonies consumed and assimilated without a trace. Corporations battle like wild dogs for just another credit, and all the while, between the political strife, war is brewing. Some people in the galaxy can see the truth: a hero is needed, more than one, in fact, to save the Milky Way.

Heroes who will not give in to despair.

Heroes who will stand against evil.

Heroes who would sacrifice their lives for the galaxy.

However, even now, as we speak, something sinister lurks outside the edges of the Milky Way, something yet to be seen. An evil unlike any other is coming.

An evil that dwells within the Deep Dark.

So, does this work? I had a bit of trouble coming up with a blurb since we have no defined protagonist in the RP, but I think this came out ok.

So, one idea I wanted to run by you guys was the starter post. Since it may make it easier to get straight into the thick of things, I could have everybody start at the same location (I.e. A colony under Devor assault, a spaceport being attacked by pirates, or alternatives not currently under attack/involving combat). Some people seem to have trouble with starter posts and it might make things easier if we do this, though it's up to you guys. We won't adversely affect the storyline if we don't do this, it's really just a matter of preference.

I got my character up, now I'll work on Voids walking. I swear, I'll get it to you guys sooner or later

I think that he meant more of a force that brings us together, becuase were all just random people who are unassociated
