Over time, she saw more and more acquaintances gather among the crowd. Thankful for their support and willingness to help, she gave them each a light greeting in the form of a smile and a nod. With more and more people gathering, she decided to ask them for some help, but just as she turned around, the father ran off in paranoia and Viktoria in shock. ... I'll send her some tea later...

Ignoring the two people leaving the scene, Selene returned to talking to the newcomers. "Gaia, Sir Helbrecht, Miss Estelle, it's good to see ya. Truth, do you mind telling us what you mean by that?" Thankfully those four were here and while not overly familiar with them, she trusted them quite a bit as a fellow Asterian. Still though, knowing a bit about Truth's history, or at least from the town gossip, him saying something like that means there's more than what it would seem. However, before she could continue, a loud voice could be heard. ... ahhh... Varen...

Selene was familiar with the warpriest, a good man, though slightly too intense for this whimsical town. She had interacted with the man as the artist making all the missing posters. "Varen! Calm down. We're over here." She waited until he could be seen. "The crime scene hasn't been disturbed, or rather this can barely be called the crime scene. This is only just the place where we caught up to the missing's father, that man who walked away from here slightly out of his mind. And it doesn't seem like he saw anything either."

Selene stepped back and brought him up to speed on what's known so far, often deferring to others to fill in parts of the story she didn't know. "—And that's where we are. Ah right, Truth? Sorry for the interruption, but could you tell us what you mean?" "Instincts?" Elatha repeated softly before smirking at herself. She had been looking too much on the spiritual recently, she was starting to forget the simple but amazing physical world around her. She was young but she had seen more in her time than most in a life time, Her subconscious mind must have learned lessened she did not know she did. "trust you Varen to come up with a log.."

A scream suddenly echoed through the street sending both priest to an alert stance. Ethara did not need any more encouragement to act and quickly followed into the busy street. She saw people gathered around something and there was complaints coming from the center. For the sounds of things though a person has disappeared there was sick or injured, or a body to examine meaning there wasn't much she could do here. Varen though seemed to be in his élément, calling for people to disperse and getting his keen eye to work.

"You heard the priest, move it!" She began calling out to add her partner. "What do you need me to do?" She asked Varen letting him take charge as it was his field. However it soon became clear that others were helping as well. "Councillor. ladies. Gentlemen." She greated before being briefed on events."so we think thos is a magical event?"

No sooner had the young witch arrived on the scene of disquietude when she quickly found herself surrounded by many tall adults, all apparently having heard the wail of distress and had rushed over to aid. She recognized many of them.

First on the scene was an erudite looking young lady, whom Kindle obviously knew their name but clearly was too distracted to say it aloud. She also knew she worked somewhere in Asteria but there were more pressing matters than telling you where she worked. Then came a foxy otherkin whom Kindle surely would've seen around and would obviously know what she was capable-- Enki's Butt!! Did those fireflies emerge from her book pages!? Boy, that must be some kind of magical book!. Then there was the blonde half-elf who seemed important, probably is, and would obviously not appreciate someone else saying their highly esteemed name and risk soiling their good honour with the syllables of an Unimportance such as her.... [Author's note: Now one must take into account that Kindle the Magnificent, Mistress of Pulled Hamstrings, Storyteller of Epic Legends, Maker of Exquisite Puppets, Bearer of the Sloppy Hat and Clandestine Victualler of Questionable Berries is a very bossybusy girlwoman. Between holding up a marvelous store, perfecting her craft and the puppet show, she really didn't have the time for socializing and getting to know the 'neighbors' so to speak. Couple that with her talent for mixing up names and you have a recipe for someone who clearly doesn't know much of the people whom she should know much of. But I digress, on with the star crossed tale of budding adventure!]

The man appeared in clear distress, lacrymose and on the verge of hysteria. At Kindle's question, he whirled around and promptly grabbed Victoria the Someone Important's wrist. Poor man, he was probably too worked up to realize who had actually asked the question in the first place. Kindle shook her head sadly. [Author's note: In actual fact, she was probably too short and the man might've thoroughly missed her as Kindle was standing right next to his behind.]

He proceeded to wail for the missing, and it was only then that Kindle's suspicions of what was happening solidified into a more coherent picture. Little Tilly had vanished similarly without a trace, or so her friends had claimed. Disappearing around a corner and just gone in two winks of an eye. What happened to this father's poor Monica was probably the result of a similar happenstance. But before anything else could be done, the distraught father had taken off with a deranged look on his face and muttering about some dark times coming upon them. None of the important people were the wiser to stop him. Kindle for her part, was still digesting this worrying and curious mystery. She may be somewhat oblivious to the things going on about her daily life, but she was quite observant about the little patterns in her routines. She might not know a child's name, but she would know if one of them did not turn up uncharacteristically.

By now, the little alleyway was filled with commotion as more people had turned up on the scene and it was starting to get a little noisy. But as the Legendary Marionetist pondered upon what had just happened, something about what the distressed man had said struck a bell in our young adventuress' exceptionally perceptive mind.

"He said something about his wife gone missing, that's surely something of import for attention to be brought! Perhaps I should seek him to find out more?" The halfing gave voice to her thoughts, almost as if deliberately wanting someone to listen and chime in to her suggestion. In reality, she was at a loss for what to do and though her routine said that she should have put everything away by now and begin heading home for some sleep, she did feel a certain sense of responsibility to deal with the enigma of the missing child.

He kept glancing over the people gathered together, wondering when would their conversation end. He frowned, his lips pouting slightly. The person who was in charge of him was basically a kid too so he had a hard time finding it in him to actually respect that person. He swing his legs, played with Mr. Bear and they were still not done. The boy sighed heavily. Kindle wasn't really expecting him to fix everything by himself, right? No way, he snorts. How many times had she taken advantage of him already?

However, this gave him a brilliant idea. He was going to go home ahead of her. Then she wouldn't have any reason to boss him around. If she had anyone to blame, it was her fault for leaving him by himself for so long. He saw an adult suddenly dash through after discussing with Kindle but that wasn't really his problem now. For some reason, the spirits around him were buzzing even more than usual. He couldn't really see them but for some reason, he could sense them being rattled for some reason. Alexius stood up from the crate and peers through from where he was. He was trying to decide if he was going to at least inform that he was going home ahead. But right now, they seemed busy. All their faces are serious too that he didn't really actually wanted to go over. "I'm going now..." he whispers to the wind as some last ditch effort to say that he at least tried.

Alexius would be able to find his way home, shouldn't he? He's been staying here for a week already. Each time he had been following her here to the show. He should be able to find his way back. Yup. He nodded, holding Mr. Bear tightly in his arms as he goes through the alleys past through the adults who were being clustered together in one of them. His brows knits and frowns. The spirits were making their presence especially known tonight. This wasn't any good for him since it was going to burden his body. He only prayed he finds his way back sooner so that he wouldn't collapse on the side of the road.

Faintly, he could hear something call out to him. He twists and turns his head trying to find the source but there was no one there. Why? Because he had gotten himself lost in a more desolate alley. His knees tremble slightly, his steps becoming more hesitant. T-T-There wasn't such a thing called ghosts, r-right? He places Mr. Bear in front of him to shield him in any case. T-Then again, spirits were kinda like ghosts, he tries to comfort himself. He was soon realizing that perhaps leaving by himself wasn't really a good idea after all. [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div]

For the Lady.

A harsh sound crowed from the knight's unseen throat, forcefully dragging his attention back upon the proceedings before him.

Selene's words were received with attentive silence. The knight was only superficially familiar with many of Asteria's inhabitants, and few he knew farther than their names. This vulpine-kin was one he had encountered on a few occasions during his endless patrols, mostly while she was buying ingredients or transporting a painting to and fro. A curious person that to some seemed difficult to approach, but the knight had found that she was quite amicable whenever he had spoken to her. Theirs had been a few casual banters that were usually predicated by him expressing interest in a painting and asking about the origins of its life-like depictions.

When the one called Varen passed him by, the knight's helmed gaze followed the man. His barking of orders, his commanding of the onlookers and consterned scrounging for clues belied the man's usual quietude. Helbrecht had met the man a number of times on the street, usually when he was questioning possible witnesses to the recent disappearances. The knight too had been questioned by him, of course. To his credit, Varen's natural politeness had treated the suspicious armored figure just the same as any other. Whether or not the man counted Helbrecht as amongst whatever list of chief suspects he had managed to assemble was something the knight could fathom, but consciousely chose to disregard.

Letting the investigating priest do his work, the knight's steel-view turned to Kindle, the halfling's voice emerged with vacillant slowness. The usual grandiosity of her tone, buffed by a mixture of exuberance and what seemed to be a defiance of stage-fright, had waned in the midst of the dire tidings ushered into the creeping night. "No." the knight's voice boomed into her direction at her musing on whether or not to visit the grieving father "Lady Bandle...brook. Not yet. Wait till the morrow." He slightly tilted his helmeted head, hands folded before his mid-section in a practiced attempt to look both thoughtful and less towering as his harsh voice crowed his reasoning "The man is grieving, trusts none. Approach him in the dead of night... he might lash out, harm himself or others." He gave a cough before forcing out his suggestion "After the meeting tomorrow, if he does not show, we can visit him together."

Alexius's quiet departure seemed to have gone unnoticed to most, but the knight was not amongst them. "Your charge." Helbrecht asked in direction of Kindle "... did you order him to leave?"

Chapter One: Rumors in the Night

The night grew darker as time passed making it's way towards morning. The choir of crickets who entertain through the quiet night, come to a subtle halt as they too must rest. Occasionally the screech of a bat, or a howl of a wolf could be heard in the near distance some further than others in their attempt to break the silent night. There was no longer much excitement to be had but there was still a cause for concern as another person has gone missing and this time it has been vaguely witnessed. It's strange to see that so many people are drawn to the mystery as most would brush it off in fear they would be next. However, the citizens must now face a drastic decision in the coming days to either solve the mystery or fall in with the rest to simply ignore the issue. To determine if their lives were worth the risk. As it has come to believe, Nothing bad ever happened in Asteria.

Meanwhile, somewhere beneath the Earth's surface, a low rumble occured that can only be heard by certain species that traveled far outside the cities limits. The rumbled traveled as if it were alive making its way in the distance. In the middle of the Asterian Woods, the Earth's surface ruptures releasing an enigmatic stone with a violet hue. There it stands releasing a toxic aura draining life surrounding it withering the trees and scaring off the animals in the area. Unbeknownst to the inhabitants of Asteria for who knows how long. either it be days or weeks. Yet, that didn't stop some of the more curious of animals from approaching it. With ears perked and posture raised, a small brown squirrel was shaken awake from the disturbance of the stone. It lingered up on a tree branch before making its way down to investigate. The intense, toxic aura was enough to make the strands of fur stand up on the squirrel's back and it kept making it's approach one leap at a time. But, before it could reach the stone to sniff, zap! Where the squirrel once stood was no longer. Was it dead, did it teleport somewhere? The ground where it stood glowed with an eerie essence, and what appeared to be small little paws, would move and leap back into the forest as if the squirrel was still there but- wasn't. The glow faded as it made way into the forest.

Back at the Temple of Wisteria, where the Councilors gather, Viktoria is seen pacing back and forth contemplating on some things. She was troubled. Behind her, a large figure dressed in a colorful robe with various of symbols made an approach. They were taller than any human and was as wide as a Minotaur, but was completely unidentifiable as their rob kept them hidden. The creature gently hit the ground with a large staff that seemed rather primative in appearance with decorations of feathers and paint. Something of the olden ages. The contact with the ground caused a low chime which disrupted Viktoria's concentration.
"Viktoria, what seems to be the problem?" The large masculine figure speaks in a deep tone. His tone was wise and concerning.
"Oh, Sir!" Giving a sigh, "Nothing bad ever happens in Asteria, why now? There was this guy, and girl-" Viktoria goes into a rant but was cut off by the figure.
"I know, I seen it all take place. Viktoria, there will be a meeting among the councilors tomorrow. Please gather the others as soon as you can. But until then, please get some rest."
Before Viktoria could respond, the creature turned and headed off into the darkness of the Temple. She headed off into the night, making her way home to prepare for the coming days. She too, knew things were going to need to change soon.
