Personality: Among friends, Drake will almost never shut up. He acts friendly to anyone he encounters and always tries, often succeeds, to lighten up a dark mood or bring other people up from being sad. He sees himself as a helper, someone who assists in any way he can. When people stereotype children of Hades to act like antisocials, he just laughs it right off and says he's the exception. Drake looks for the positives in most situations. He never accepts defeats and fights to the end if he thinks he can win. If he loses, he moves on and works to better himself and correct the mistake that caused his loss. When he gets angry, he tries to no let that drag him down. Even if it does, he sees through with his goal of looking for positives in many situations. On nice days during summer while he's at camp, he can often be found under a tree in the strawberry fields taking a nap or training with a sword. Sometimes he just sits in the Hades cabin and reads.
Backstory: Born to a single mother in New York City, Ethan Drake's life wasn't always fun. His mother, who was a beautiful woman who worked in the jewlery business, developed a small brain tumor that required immediate operation when he was four years old. Nannies were his only company, but he made the best of it. They'd take him to and from school, help him with work, play with him, and drive him to see his mother. He always felt the happiest when he was at the hospital with her, even if she laid in a bed all day with IVs and tubes attached to her upper body. A month away from turning five, and his mother took a turn for the worse. They had to operate on her, and he lost sleep worrying about it while whichever nanny was watching him told him it would be alright. Her doctors weren't hopeful, but she actually managed to pull through and get the tumor removed. On all scans, she was fine. Drake was so happy.
When he hit seventeen, chaos returned to his life. The only things he knew about his father at this point was that he was a rich musician who left when he found out that the girl he had been spending time with was pregnant. He had come to dislike the image of that man. Two of his classmates at the time, Rusty Wissman and Ethan Skylert, were his best friends. They were in the middle of lunch break, hanging out and talking outside of the building, when an earthquake hit. A fissure opened up from that quake, which brought out a fire demon from the Norse realm of Muspelheim. It caught the school on fire, which caused Drake to start panicing. It looked like a demon straight from the movies. He would've died, had it not been for Rusty and Ethan, who took the demon down themselves with their own abilities. As it turned out, they were the sons of a Greek god, Poseidon. They told him it wouldn't be safe to stay at the school anymore, especially after an attack like that, but he refused to leave until he knew what was going on. They were about to explain it all, but a shadow on the ground turned into a human form. It looked like one of the muscicians from bands like Nirvana. He introduced himself as Hades, Drake's father and Greek god of the Underworld.
Hades took time to explain that since Drake was the most recent child of his, the gods were starting to get fed up with children of the Big Three just popping up, and other deities were noticing the weaknesses of the Olympians. Monsters and demons of Norse mythology were starting to target Greek demigods now, but for reasons unknown. Hades explained to the group then that they had a goal to accomplish, and that was to stop whatever was going on. To do this, Hades gave a cryptic how-to to Drale on how to use the powers that he had, as well as two magical Stygian Iron weapons that would take whatever form that he wished. Holsters formed out of shadow on his legs, because the first form they took were pistols. Being enchanted they never ran out of ammo, which he liked because he actually knew how to shoot. His mother practiced with weapons all the time, just in case someone tried to rob the place she worked at, and she took him a lot. He was a practiced shot with a pistol, so all he had to figure out now was how to use the powers Hades told him he had.
Drake, Rusty, and Ethan's quest took them to a branch of Yggdrasil in Boston, a gathering of now-deceased fire demons in D.C (turns out Donald Trump was the ring leader. Drake and co decided no one was going to miss him), even to a Norse demigod camp in the West. Each step of the way, Drake's abilities grew stronger, and the bonds he shared with his friends grew stronger as well. All along their quest, Drake was attacked by another son of Hades, one who served the Titan Kronos just to see who was actually worthy of being a son of Hades. In actuality, Hades no longer recognized the teen, Jack, as his son for siding with Kronos. Their journey ultimately culminated into the discovery that the Norse Fire Lord Surtur himself had been attacking the Greeks to get them to turn on the Nords, all of which would lead to a war that would leave almost no one left to stop him from beginning Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods.
Even with all three demigods fighting against Surtur, he initially proved too strong. He was on his home turf, and Drake and friends were in unknown territory. Drake decided to level the playing field and bring the game to his home court. He tackled Surtur into a pit that led straight to the Underworld. Now on home turf, he took the upper hand now that Surtur's power was weakened. Since he was even closer to his father, the strength of his powers increased even more, and he was able to wound Surtur and knock him into Tartarus, the pit. With the threat finally over, at least for now, Drake and his friends returned home to find his mother worried sick. He didn't want to explain the entirety of his journey, but he did tell her that he met his father, and he should've given him the benefit of the doubt. Now, every summer, he goes off to Camp Half-Blood, a safe haven for Greek demigods, for summer fun and to improve himself in case another quest comes up.
Companions: None
Known rivals: Jack, Ethan Skylert
Known enemies: Jack, Surtur, Muspelheim, the Titans
Known friends: Rusty Wissman, Ethan Skylert
Known family: Sarah Drake, Nico di Angelo, Hades/Pluto, all children of Hades
Known allies: Camp Asgard, Camp Half-Blood, Camp Jupiter
Likes: Food, reading, fighting, winning, sleeping, video games
Dislikes: Giving up, Debbie Downers, losing, unnecessary anger
Weapons: Hades had given Drake two weapons made of Stygian Iron that could take the shape of any weapons he could think of, and solidified shadows would form the sheathe or holster for the weapon configuration he chooses. Most often, he rolls with twin M1911 pistols or two shortswords.
Gear/gadgets: For long trips or if he's anticipating fights, Drake carries a backpack filled with the essentials that most demigods need: ambrosia and nectar (food and drink, respectively, from the gods that heals all wounds over time and takes the flavor of the consumer's favorite food or drink. Too much can cause a mortal to burn up), standard first aid kit, emergency reading book, emergency junk food (complete with chips, candy bars, and pop), and a watch.
Skills/talents: Drake knows how to shoot a weapon and shoot accurate, more so with pistols than anything else. He has basic knowledge of how to swing swords in a fight from Greek-style training, but he mixes in some of his own elements as well. Most, if not all, Greek demigods can read and speak ancient Greek.
Powers/abilities: Being a son of Hades, and having a blessing from Hades, Drake has quite a few powers that might seem a bit edgey for his personality. He can step into shadows and use them to transport himself long distances, which is called Shadow Travel. He can summon undead warriors to fight for him, but this drains his energy pretty quick. The blessing Hades gave him allows him a unique ability: Shadow Manipulation. While this may seem more like something a child of Hecate would have, Drake has been given the ability to solidify shadows and control them to do a lot of things. However, since this was given to him as a blessing, it puts more of a strain on himself than his other abilities.
Weaknesses: As a demigod, Drake has both dyslexia and ADHD, but for valid reasons. The dyslexia allows him to read ancient Greek writing and the ADHD gives him better reflexes in battle. The strain that each use of his powers also would be detrimental, especially since Shadow Travelling too much would cause him to fade into the shadows himself and essentially give up his mortal body and send his spirit to the Underworld. As for psychological weaknesses, any threats made against his mother set him off. His mother is very dear to him, and he will go to hell and back to save her and risk getting himself killed just to save her.
