Tears of the Phoenix (HP RP)
The year is 2025. The wizarding world has been at peace for over twenty years. A new generation of children is now attending Hogwarts, discovering their powers and learning the magical arts. They will work hard at their classes, dine in the Great Hall- maybe join a club or get into trouble once in a while. Outside the castle walls though, trouble is afoot. A rogue Ministry worker named Amarta Graedig has left the world of sanity and order for that of the Dark Arts. Malcontent with the establishment, she's begun to gather others who feel like her to her side, and together they've started their attack on the Ministry. At first, they started small- disrupting item shipments, burning stacks of the Daily Prophet, delaying workers on their way to work... As things progressed, however, they've moved up to kidnap, torture and even murder.
The Ministry's been trying to keep the whole thing as quiet as possible, despite the group's active recruitment campaign. They call themselves The Phalanx. They're mostly an urban rumor for now but, unless they're stopped, it probably won't be long before they have enough members and support to come out in the open and attempt an all-out coup against the Ministry. In order to stop them, a special task force of Aurors has been assigned to tracking them down. So far, they have not succeeded.
Whilst this unrest plagues the Ministry, another troubling phenomenon is also occurring: phoenixes are beginning to disappear. This most magical of creatures is praised for its many amazing qualities and abilities: its healing tears and song, its apparition and disapparition talents, the weight it can carry, its fierce loyalty and, most well-known of all, its powers of regeneration. Phoenixes have long been protected and revered, whether wild or as pets. Now, it seems that they are in danger.
The Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures is, naturally, quite disturbed, and they are putting tremendous effort and resources into discovering the source of these disappearances and locating the fantastical birds. Phoenixes have been reported missing all across the country and even abroad, however, and they simply don't have enough manpower to tackle the problem. There is great worry among current experts in the lore of Fantastic Beasts that, if the birds are not found and returned to their owners or natural habitats- and soon-, phoenixes could disappear from the world altogether.

Rules

-Expected posting requirements are two/three paragraphs per character, a couple times a week. At bare minimum, we'll be expecting at least one paragraph per character, once a week. Your writing doesn't need to be perfect, but please at least re-read and spellcheck your posts before putting them up.

-Your posts should always have something in them that other characters can interact with/respond to. Also, be sure not to flood the thread with a bunch of back and forth involving just a small group of people- we don't want to leave anybody behind.

-We understand that life gets in the way. We just ask that, if you need more time to get a post done, or if you need to leave the RP, you let us know!
If you fail to respond or post within the time limit, your character will be sidelined. After another week of inactivity, they will be replaced.

-We encourage you to be active in the OOC thread and PM groups, and to plot character relationships with other players.
Please be respectful and courteous, however, and keep all drama IC.

-No godmodding or controlling other people's characters (unless you've gotten permission first). Follow RPN rules for post content.

-Breaking rules gets you a warning; after three warnings, you will be removed from the roleplay.
If necessary, removed players' characters will be killed off or taken over as NPCs.

-Have fun!

Of course, you don't have to use it if you don't want to, but please have headers for your posts that include:

-Your character's name, House, role, and current location
-A list of whoever your character is near/interacting with (@tting their player optional)
-Thumbnail image (my suggestion is linking it back to your character's profile)
(This is so people can remember what the character looks like, while avoiding taking up the whole screen with a full-size image)

I also highly recommend coloring/bolding/italicizing your character's speech and thoughts, to make them stand out ^^
And try to pick colors that are readable in both darkmode and lightmode, and include a plaintext version if your code isn't mobile-friendly ;P
Let me know if you want/need any help, or have questions~

Aniyah smiled as she came into the station. It was always busy and exciting. "Do take care, dear. We need you to make good grades and find a good husband." Her mother reminded as they moved to the barrier for the platform. Aniyah sighed softly but chuckled all the same.

"Your mother is right. Good grades are important." Her father smiled and tugged on her braid as they approached the wall. "But they will be easy for you. Our smart daughter." The couple smiled and nodded as Aniyah quietly made her way through the barrier and into the platform. The Hogwarts Express stood in all its garnet glory, red and gold shining bright as it reflected the nearby light. It was time to head back to Hogwarts castle and live the life of a student witch once more and she was ready.

"I'll owl you weekly, as always." She promised as she faced her parents. "Send me owls in return. Take care of yourselves as well. I'll miss you." She hugged them both farewell and kissed their cheeks farewell. It would be a great semester and she knew it. Aniyah climbed onto the train and slowly began making her way to the prefect car.

There was no one in there yet but she didn't mind, she was still early. But that was who she was as a person. Early was to be on time, on time was to be late. And late was simply unacceptable. Perhaps that was one of the key reasons she had been chosen as a prefect last year. That and her good relationship with so many others, especially those on the Quidditch teams. She had been giving commentary for a bit and enjoyed it, although she found it enjoyable to see how many different descriptions for the same thing she could come up with.

OOC: Woohoo for take 2! I'm changing color schemes for my characters to fit their houses. Let me know if there are any issues reading them.

Hye was already beginning to feel a little homesick, even though the train had not yet left the platform. He was happy to be going to Hogwarts- to be starting his career in magical learning and his path towards becoming a full-grown wizard-, but at the same time he could not pretend he wasn't going to miss the quiet village he had known his entire life, with its proud, simple people. He knew everyone there by name, and they all knew him. A few of them were wizards, but most of them had been muggles. He'd seen every kind of farming there was, as well as fishing and various forms of craftsmanship. It was a good place, where people looked out for each other. And of course, Hye would also miss his father- the kind soul who had cared for him his whole life.

Hye barely remembered Korea. When he was a small child, he had visited there often, staying with his mother's relatives. He remembered it as being crowded and bright and full of life- a world away from the calm and dignified small village in his beloved Irish countryside. He was a child of both his parents and, though he had never met his mother, loved and honored them both. His family had insisted he learn to speak Korean. He had kept it up as best he could over the years, though he was rather rusty and out of practice, and fairly basic in his grasp of the language. He had worked hard in school as well, knowing that getting good grades was a big deal to his Korean relatives, and not wanting to let them down. He also simply enjoyed learning for learning's sake, and looked forward to what he would learn at Hogwarts.

The last couple of days had been a blur. Getting from the island to the mainland, and then from Ireland to Britain. He and his father had stayed at the Leaky Cauldron for a couple nights so Hye could get all his school shopping done. He had loved to see Diagon Alley- loved to spend time in all the shops. He wished he'd been able to get an owl, but they couldn't quite swing it yet, so he'd simply brought along his cat. He had really enjoyed the Owl Emporium though- the bookshop and wand shop were great too. His father had gotten a little emotional at Madam Malkins' when he tried on his Hogwarts robes, saying how proud his mother would have been. Hye had teared up as well. And now it was September 1st, they had gotten to the station early, and he was currently sitting on the Hogwarts Express, waiting for his journey to begin.

It was different this year. Normally, Hugo went to set off onto the platform alone, but today his parents had decided to accompany him. They rarely delved into the public arena due to their recognizability as former Death Eaters, followers of He Who Must Not Be Named. Hugo was so boisterous alone, but, with them, he was frozen in place as if he was no longer himself. Being near them and their judgment in public took away his humanity. He loved them, yes, but to be seen next to the ostracized was something else. Atkinson was the name of monsters that you hid from in the dark. He wanted to be known as something more, a flowering intellectual. With them, he was just another monster. For the first time in years, Hugo felt shame as he prepared to go to Hogwarts.

Like normal, 1…. 2… 3… Whoosh! Hugo slid through the wall to push onto the platform. His mother and father swiftly followed. Atkinson was the name of monsters that you hid from in the dark. Despite this stigma, Hugo walked with a particularly undeserved swagger as if he were the Minister of Magic himself, trying to brush off the dirty looks of other wizarding families as they pushed through the crowded platform. It was a sea of families, and it was parted by their disdain for his. Still, chin high, straighten those shoulders… Hugo felt the need to maintain dignity despite the jeers and looks.

As they neared the train, Hugo felt the icy grip of his father grasp his shoulder, tears of pride in his eyes as he looked at Hugo. It was a rare show of emotion from the man. His eyes grew soft and he whispered so that only Hugo could hear it It’s the first time I’ve ever seen you off, and it’s when you’re a man. A bigger one than me. Unafraid. Carry that my boy. I should’ve been here for all those years… I will be here for the last three, believe you me. Hugo went still, is shoulders slinking in for a moment as his mother and father embraced him with a deep hug. He was petrified until they let go, he raised his hand at them as he began to walk away, reassuming his swagger I’ll miss you both. . No more words.

The young man began to slink his way onto the prefect’s carriage. There he was nearly alone, save for Aniyah who had barely arrived before him. A familiar face at least. He smiled at her, flashing his bravado and filling the cabin with his presence. He was the wind on which brooms flew, the greatest wizard of this era. Every word of that was true in his own head. Tarot cards slid from Hugo’s pocket and into his hand, excitement filling his heart as the shame of his family began to dissipate. As he began to flit the cards across his hands, he began to speak to Aniyah, I think that you heard that Ravenclaw is going to be snatching the House Cup this year. Heck, I even see us undefeated in quidditch. It’s in the cards! He flashed his tarot deck at her, the Wheel of Fortune card sliding out if only for a moment. Again, the boy was not starved of confidence. She was simply amicable and Hugo felt happy to be in her presence.

OOC: Voila! So excited! I just can’t hide it 😊

Ramaya had done a lot of travelling this past summer. She'd decided to celebrate the removal of her trace by exploring the magical world, going mostly to places in America she hadn't yet been (though she had gone back to France as well). However, she had buckled down during the last section and focused on schoolwork. It wouldn't do to let her grades or her reputation slip during her last year at Hogwarts, and she fully intended to get an 'Outstanding' in all eight of her NEWTs.

She barely paid attention to the hustle and bustle on the platform, wasting no time in getting on the train. All her friends were in 7th-year and no doubt already inside, and her family had never come to see her off here. Her raven, Poe, was probably already halfway to Hogwarts by now (she'd never forced him to travel with her, as he would've been incredibly bored doing so). She quickly boarded the Hogwarts Express at the front, where the prefects' carriage was. Expertly levitating her trunk onto a rack, she walked in to join the two Ravenclaws, catching the tail-end of Hugo's claim.

"... -aw is going to be snatching the House Cup this year. Heck, I even see us undefeated in quidditch. It’s in the cards!"

Grinning, she walked up and sat herself down casually, crossing her legs and spreading her arms wide across the whole seat.

"In your dreams, Atkinson," she declared in her trademark coastal southern drawl tempered with English and French.

Hugo Atkinson was a new prefect this year, though since he'd started at Hogwarts his grades had been impressive. As was his family lineage, no matter what his personal feelings on that might be. Aniyah was a sixth-year, pleasant and fair-minded. She'd been doing a good job as quidditch commentator, and most of the Houses had nothing to reproach her for, which was rare. Ramaya glanced around the carriage once, wondering when Zhan would arrive. The way she saw it, he had beaten her out of the Head Girl spot by becoming Head Boy (it was virtually unheard of for both to be from the same House), and she had every intention of making him suffer for it this year. No one beat Ramaya Preston in anything without suffering the consequences.

OOC: Haha she's so petty xD Also, the rivalry begins ;P

Aniyah chuckled and closed her journal as Hugo joined her. She blushed lightly as he made her the center of attention. He was a good person, one she would enjoy being a prefect with. He had been a good addition to Ravenclaw and of course, the Quidditch team. And even with his background, he still managed to make the best of things, almost in a Hufflepuff manner. His loud and boisterous nature was also quite known as well. Not that she minded. She grinned at his announcement, nodding her own agreement even as Ramaya entered the compartment behind him. Slytherin to her core, a tendency to be judgmental, and a superior attitude that very few rivaled at Hogwarts at the moment. The transfer student was quite brilliant, her scores from Beauxbatons and Hogwarts proving as much, and her blood and money could support her in anything and everything she chose. Aniyah found her motives questionable still, but simply kept her thoughts to herself. A good journalist observed first, making questions for later.

"He might very well be correct. There have been some changes to the Slytherin house team that might not necessarily be to the greatest effect or success." Aniyah offered Ramaya softly. "Given last year's point distribution was quite close across the board, Ravenclaw and Slytherin are looking to be closely matched and nothing can truly be determined until the first match of the year. Of course, I shall root for my fellow Ravenclaws to win." She winked to Hugo. Ramaya had shut him down quite quickly and it wasn't his fault.

Harriette took a deep breath as she entered greenhouse six in the Hogwarts ground, with the inhalation her nose was filled with the amalgamated scents of every plant and herb inside. To a newcomer the scent would be overwhelming and pungent but she just loved it. The smell of growth, life and magic which excited her so since the beginning and since she was so used to the scent she could differentiate it make up and tell how each plant was going. She had spent most of the morning going through each of the greenhouse preparing for the year to come. Watering, replanting and harvesting as she went.

It was a lot of mostly routine jobs but she liked doing it. It was relaxing to her as it focused her mind away from other things. Such as her first day properly teaching. Of all her new duties as a Hogwarts professor it was the teaching part that worried her the most. It was the most important part after all. How was she going to keep the students engaged, to make them listen and guide them. She had practiced lecturing during the summer, she knew her stuff for sure but conveying it to others she was not sure.

On the duties she knew how to do, things were going well. Of those of immediate need: Fluxweed for the infirmary needed were ready and successful harvested. Bouncing Bulbs demonstration pieces for first years class tomorrow had grown nice and big though restraining them was difficult even with her giant strength but she managed. All that was left was the last few items for the potions master to restock her cupboard. She had a basket in her hand which she began filling with the items asked.

The first flakes of snow danced down from the grey clouds above, gently settling onto of the cars and paving bellow. Alice lowered the cigarette from her mouth, watching the smoke taper off into the early morning breeze. St. Petersburg was a beautiful city, a perfect place to mark the end of her travels around Russia.

утро [Morning].” A woman’s voice said softly, as she joined Alice on the balcony overlooking the waking city below them.

Morning.” Alice replied, taking the cigarette back to her lips, puffing out another trail of smoke. “You leaving today as well?” She asked, already to aware of the answer.

Yea, thought I’d say goodbye.” She sighed, leaning both of her arms onto the cold metal railing. “Top brass wants me back, no use me being here now you’re gone. God, I’m going to miss this.” She said, gesturing at the city in front of them.

Me too.” Alice agreed, watching an elderly couple shuffle along the streets bellow. “We live in different worlds.” She sighed, tilting her head over to the other woman. “We both knew this was coming.

The woman mumbled in agreement, before stepping back from the balcony, reaching out a hand towards Alice. “Well, Miss Right, as of now, I am no longer accountable for your safety, any actions you hence by perform are completely and entirely your own. it’s been a pleasure.” She stated, as Alice reached out, shaking her hand.

You Americans and your formalities.” She said, smirking, before pulling the woman into a hug. “Write to me, ok?” she asked, stepping back.

Of course, on official, and personal terms.” She answered. And with that, she was gone, leaving Alice alone once again.

Letting out a sigh, she stubbed out her cigarette, discarding it off the edge of the balcony and headed back into her room. Her bags were already packed, a small tray of glittering green powder lay on small coffee table next to the embers of a dead fire. Pulling her bag onto her back, she wasted no time in grabbing a handful of powder, throwing it into the fireplace, watching as the embers erupted into green flame. “Hogwarts, Professor Rights office.” She stated. It felt weird, she still couldn’t believe she had been given the job. Her, a professor, they must have lost their minds. Taking a step forward, she disappeared in a flash of green, leaving only a pile of embers behind her.

Another flare of green, and Alice was standing in a stone room, a very bare one at that. A small chest of draws, a desk, the bare necessities of an office. She slung her bag down onto the desk, strolling over to the window and unlatching it, relishing in the fresh air once again. God, she really hated travelling by floo. Leaning out the window, she reached into her pocket, pulling out another cigarette and a battered lighter. A small click later, she hung the top half of her body out the window, crossing her arms as she surveyed the landscape around her. The green forest and mountain peaks behind them. You never forgot Hogwarts. As she stood there, leaning out the window, she watched as a broom zipped past, grinning to herself. Yep, I’m really back in the wizarding world now. She raised her hand, greeting the man as he flew by once again.

Morning, little early for flying don’t you think?” She said casually, letting out a long drawn out yawn. “Alice, Alice Right. I’m the new Alchemy professor.” She Explained, holding out her hand out the window towards the man.

Briar rose early that day, as she always did. She had returned to the castle the day before and begun preparing her classroom for the new term. She only trusted one particular house-elf to assist her in cleaning the dungeon, as she felt the others would be more likely to cause problems or damage than actually help.

Jaldy had been working at Hogwarts for many years now, and she'd first taken notice of him when he came in to clean her office a few years ago. Upon her arrival at the school that term, she'd noticed it was far cleaner and more organized than usual, and she had summoned an elf and enquired about it. The elf had directed her towards Jaldy who had, as it turns out, taken it upon himself to do the whole job himself, deeming the work of the others to be subpar (and Briar had to agree with him).

In seeing the quality of his work and his attention to detail, Briar had asked the elf some more questions about himself and his experience before offering him a position as her assistant. She'd had to run it by the headmistress, of course, but McGonagall had agreed, and Jaldy had come to work in her classroom. His tasks mostly consisted of cleanup and setup between classes but, before each start of term, he would deep-clean the classroom, as well as the supply cupboards and her office.

By the time she arrived, he'd already made great headway, and Briar had mostly just to restock and prepare materials for the upcoming term. Becoming more familiar with the work with each passing year, Jaldy was able to take more and more initiative in assisting her these days, considerably lightening her workload. When she arrived in the classroom that morning, he was busy cleaning and organizing the delicate glass vials that she kept in a cabinet by her desk.

"Good morning, Jaldy," she said in her usual quiet voice. The elf inclined his head respectfully.

"Good morning, Mistress Amaranth," he replied.

"You've done an excellent job, as always," she commented. He bowed again.

"I'll be in my office if you need me," she informed him- he had the classroom setup well in hand. She spent the next few hours setting up her office, and going over her plans for the term. Well really, she spent less than an hour on that part, and the rest of the time reading a few of the books she'd acquired over the summer. After all, magic considerably sped up having to deal with such matters, and she already knew exactly what she was doing this term, having taught here for several years already.

Around ten-thirty, she put down the book and rose from her desk. She walked out of her office and out of the castle, heading down to the greenhouses. Professor Hagrid had told her she'd have the supplies she needed to restock the cupboards ready around mid-morning. When Briar arrived at Greenhouse Six, Harriette was, it seemed, still in the process of collecting them.

"Good morning, Professor Hagrid," she said as she walked in and joined her colleague.

The sparkling sunbeams danced their way past the slightly askew curtains of Eden's bedroom. The walls were decorated in pale purples and vibrant greens and yellows. Fake Ivy and flowers dangled where ever she could put them and the smell of fresh lavender filled the small space. A suitcase closed but filled to the brim sat on the fluffy mattress dressed in a flowery duvet. Eden, herself, was already awake before the sunlight brightened the room naturally. The excited nervousness that often bubbled deep in her stomach was replaced by a sense of nostalgic peace. This was her last year going to Hogwarts and with that brought so much unknown for the future. She couldn't dwell on it- not now. She wanted to enjoy her last year to the fullest despite the ever-present problems she has with her vision. It was already causing some trouble this morning. She stared at her reflection in the mirror with a brush in her hand. It was mid-way through her cropped, straight hair but all she could make out was the blurry patches of colors that represented her face, clothes, hair... Well, this was just great. Sighing, she pushed her palms against her eyes before reaching for her thick rim glasses. Slipping them onto her face, she was able to see clearly her pale complexion and flushed cheeks. She hated the way the glasses looked on her face- which is why she wore contacts on, particularly bad days. It was too early to go through that process- she rather hated it all really. But her insecurity about her eyes encouraged her to put her glasses on every morning.

Eden wasn't one for heartfelt goodbyes. It was easy for her to cry at the drop of a hat and with that, came guilt and insecurity. Her parents weren't clingy much anymore and sometimes she missed it but not on a day like today. She wrote her note with a flourish, grabbed her bags and Artie, and left her home to the platform. She spoke to her toad with a grin as she moved, "we're going to school again, Artie. I am sure you missed your friends as much as I have." A croak was his only response but the slender girl wanted to believe it was a rather positive remark from the toad. Getting to the platform was not hard and getting onto the Hogwarts express was a breeze. She reminisced about those days she was frightened to get onto the platform and frightened of being alone. Now, she was more confident and had friends she would never turn her back on. With a yawn, she moved her way to the last compartment. The excitement was finally hitting her as she slipped into the plush seat of the train. She had Artie's traveling aquarium near her feet but she did pull him out for a moment to check on him. "You are such a handsome man, Artie." She smiled before setting the toad back into the case to keep him safe. It wouldn't be the first time a stay animal made its way out of a compartment.

Kat grinned as she made her way onto Hogwarts express and started looking for a compartment. Chester and Marcus had seen her off, just like they always did. It was always nice to see them both off work in the morning together. Maybe they could even come visit her in Hogsmeade this year! Marcus did last year once, and Chester twice. But then again, both were so busy. She just had to value the time they had together. It wasn't as though they never saw one another and it was better now than when Chester was still in Hogwarts.
"BYE!!!!" She took a moment to lean out the door and wave to both of them, grin wide on her face. "I'll owl you when I get there! And I'll tell you about everyone and everything I find! Oh, and don't forget to send me lotsa letters!" she ordered with a last wave as Marcus facepalmed and Chester laughed.

She disappeared down the corridor, searching for any of her friends. She might actually be the first one here this time! At least she hadn't gotten lost on the way to the train with Marcus and Chester. Last year had been an adventure with her getting separated before getting to King's Cross and then the two siblings having to hunt her down before they were too late for the train. She had only made it with seconds to spare last year, but not this time! This year, she was on time!

She grinned as she came to the last compartment. Perfect!
" Eden and Artie! I'm glad I found you! I am actually on time this year! I didn't get lost or nothing this time." She was nearly bouncing in excitement as she used her wand to float her trunk into place. Thank everything and everyone for magic or she never would have been able to, with her size and such. At least she was healthy enough to attend school Ahmed have fun with her friends. Speaking of which! "I know we've been owling all summer and visited and everything, but it's been forever and ever still and we're seventh years now and it's brilliant!"

Kat was always excitable and today was no different. Throw in her two best friends, the Chaotic Trio was unstoppable. All in good fun, of course. Her grades were good and the trouble they got into was always something that could easily be resolved, if a bit messy. She blinked as she realized something. "Wait. You're here early, I'm actually here early for once, and I'm not the last one here for once! I beat Milo here! Woohoo!" She laughed and hugged Eden. "Let it be known I managed to not get lost or cause any mayhem before the train started moving this year! This means we should have a party tonight. Last first night of school. Party in the Gryffindor Common room!"

Dane smiled as he walked down the platform toward the prefect's carriage. This was his last year at Hogwarts and he was going to give his schooling everything he had. He was eager to be back, Hogwarts having been a second home to him since his first year at the school and he missed his friends. Of course, he hadn't always been the social type but he was quite fond of most of the other students, even if they didn't always get along.

Dane's summer had been less than eventful, both his parents being too busy with work to really spend time together. He spent most of his time alone studying and practicing his magic, trying to make as much use for his time as possible. Of course he spent as much time as possible with his parents, but there was only so much he could do when they were both so busy.

Stepping up onto the train Dane could hear a few other students speaking, opening the door to see that he was only the fourth to arrive. Hugo, Aniyah and Rayama were all speaking to each other about the house cup and quidditch as he entered the carriage. He shook his head fondly as he settled into a seat before speaking to the small group of prefects.

"I'm afraid you're all wrong. The house cup will be going to Gryffindor this year."

Harriette turned hearing the voice of the potions master behind her and smiled at the always neutral and serious expression of her colleague. Even during their hogwarts days, she rarely had seen her smile or have fun though admittedly the two ran with different circles interaction was limited. "Good Morning, prof. I am surprised, I half expected you to send your little house elf to pick up it up. Not have to wallow in the dirt of the greenhouse." She shrugged as she picked out a few more herbs. "Shows what i know I guess. Don't worry I will have your order ready in a couple of minutes, you do not have to wait long."

She moved about a bit more hurried now, her heavy footsteps echoed on the stone floor. She soon gathered the last of the items ordered, but she was not done just yet. Harriette went over a corner of the greenhouse where a few non-magical plants and flowers grew. She picked out a few flowers of various complimenting colours of blue and violet forming a small bouquet. Adding it to the small basket before walking over to Briar. "Here we are, all present. I even added some decorative flowers to beautiful dank dungeon of yours." She said." In your house colours of course. Enjoy."

His last year, huh? And his last one too. Hopefully it would pass smoothly for the freshly-turned-eighteen farm boy.

Leaving his family was always difficult, no matter the year. And, since it was his last, both of his parents were there to see him off. His father had expressed his joy in seeing his son turn into such a "fine young man", and his mother peppered his entire face with thousands of kisses. Both parents were always rather teary-eyed when sending their son off to school, but it seemed especially difficult for the pair this year.

No matter. Breaks came often enough for Milo to return home, and before anyone knew it he'd be there each day again. He only hoped that he could tear himself away from the duo before they decided to drag him right back to the family farm.

But after a few hundred more kisses and a rather extended hug for each of his parents, the whistle was finally blowing and Milo was quick to part ways with his parents so that he could rush onto the train before it was too late. Suzie, his rat, had been rather giddy the entire time and she looked especially excited to get onto the train.

Likely due to being hungry for the crackers Milo made sure to pack for her.

~

Unfortunately, once Milo had made sure he was comfortable in one of the compartments, he noticed the rat was probably more curious about what the train had in store. He was comfortably pulling the crackers from his bag when he'd noticed the very distinct lack of warmth in his pocket. Oh, Suzie. She was always the troublemaker too...

Sighing, though not frowning, Milo decided it was best to look for her before heading over to his proper compartment. Prefects had their own.... Right? He just had to make sure he found the correct one this time (as last year he'd been stuck wandering the train for far too long). And hey, maybe he’d spot Eden or Kat on his way there. It would be nice to give them a little ‘hello’.

With one last wave as he left his current compartment, Milo turned into the halls and passed by other rooms as he looked from the ground to the window sills. Suzie had to be somewhere. There were so many people looking around for friends and for free compartments that he, honestly, wasn't sure where he could start looking.

At least there was a long ride to the school. Suzie would find her way back at some point, if he couldn't find her first, so maybe he should just wait for that...

It was nice to see so many young faces on the train. Little first-years were everywhere, and Milo couldn't wait to see what houses each of them were sorted into. If any were stuck in Hufflepuff, he'd be sure to welcome them with open arms. It seemed like a few of them made friends as well already. How nice.

At the back of his mind, Milo wondered if he should look a little harder for his friends as well. It’d been far too long since he’d seen either of them, after all. Small trips for the both of them to his farm never lasted long enough.

Unfortunately, it looked like quite a few students needed aid on their way around the train. Milo wasn't really one for speaking, but it wasn't so bad when he had to help others find their way to friends or to empty compartments. Fortunately, a lot of the older students seemed to at least recognize him as a bit of an authority figure (or someone who knew their way around the train. Milo wasn't sure which was more correct), so they could easily find their way to a safer location than the halls. He did feel most sympathy for the little first years though. A lot of them looked so nervous and perhaps scared to even ask him for assistance. Poor things were stuck on their own for the first time.

After helping a duo find some space in one of the compartments, Milo began his search again.

At some point, Milo ended up spotting Suzie. She had made her way to the snack cart (of course. Why would Milo expect anything else?) And before she could scurry away again, she was promptly swiped from the cart before she could be noticed-- little squeaks coming from her as she was slipped back into the male's pocket where she belonged.

Now he really needed to find his compartment though.

In due time, Milo did spot a cabin with quite a few familiar faces. Other prefects. Smiling to himself, Milo was quick to open the door after knocking twice. It appeared that he had happened upon the carriage just after Dane. Uh oh. And by the sounds of it, there was already a bit of friendly competition. Milo almost chuckled. He enjoyed winning as much as the next person, but the fun was in the game, right?

He peeked over Dane’s shoulder and offered a wave to the three seated members and then to Dane once Milo was noticed behind him (If he did notice).

Once there was enough room, Milo slipped around Dane with hands on the slightly shorter male’s shoulders and plopped himself onto the seat beside Aniyah on the side closer to the compartment door. Ah, it was nice to see everyone again.

Zhan yawned as he made his way toward the Hogwarts Express. He was later than he originally planned to be but before he left home just couldn't bring himself to pry his baby sister from his leg. She was nearly two years old and likely couldn't remember when Zhan had left for Hogwarts the year before. No doubt he would miss the dark headed little girl while he was away at school and he was sure she was already throwing a monumental tantrum since he had left for the station.

This was his final year at Hogwarts, and obviously his most important. Not only would he have to worry about his NEWTs but he would also carry the responsibility of being Slytherin's head boy, a role he was eager to fulfill but one that he was nervous about none the less. He would also have to worry about the running rivalry between himself and Ramaya that dated back to their first year at Hogwarts. She would no doubt be giving her all to do better than him, he would just have to work harder to keep himself at her level.

Zhan nodded to a few students as he passed by them but didn't interact with anyone beyond that, wanting to make it to the train before it got too crowded. He boarded the train nearest to the prefect's carriage and let himself in once he arrived, finding a fair few people had beaten him there.

Levitating his trunk into the rack above the seats, he took a quick glance about the carriage. It seemed he had gotten in just behind Dane and Milo, the two of them still settling. Besides them he saw Hugo and Aniyah, he didn't know too much about them as their paths hadn't crossed much in the years prior but he knew them to be friendly enough. Finally his eyes settled on Ramaya as he sat down, she didn't seem too thrilled about his arrival, for good reason. No doubt she thought he stole the role of head girl out from under her by being chosen for head boy. They would surely be butting heads very soon.

"Good morning everyone. Ramaya."

Saying goodbye to his mother and father had been easy enough for Elliot. This was not the first time that he’d been leaving for Hogwarts, nor was it the first time for his younger middle brother Matthew. The worst, though, was the youngest of the brothers. It was Thomas’s first year going on an adventure into the wizarding world without the attendance of their father, and spending a whole year away from their parents was, without a doubt, terrifying to the poor boy. He’d been clinging to their mother’s side all morning-- whining and asking if he really had to go. Of course, it was making it more difficult for their mother to let go as well.

Dozens of hugs and kisses were given to the youngest of the Oakes in rapid-fire fashion, and watching yet another set of them had Elliot rolling his eyes. He would miss his parents as well, but there was no way he’d be caught dead begging for their attention in a public place like this. Thomas was far too dependent on their mother. And once she was out of sight, Elliot was sure Thomas would be clinging to his arm instead.

Once a proper kiss for his mother and a hug for his father could be given by Elliot and his next-in-age brother (after Thomas had gotten more than his fill), the trio made their way onto the train and into the first empty compartment they could find with the promise to keep each other safe. Thankfully one was easily obtained and they were able to be sat comfortably until the train started its journey.

~

Honestly. What was Matthew Oakes thinking?

He’d completely abandoned the two of them in favor of his friends. What kind of friends had he even made? It was his responsibility to stick to the compartment and keep Thomas busy. He knew that Elliot had been hoping to spend a quiet morning with a book. It was his last trip on the Express, and Elliot wanted it to be a peaceful one.

Granted, It wouldn’t have ended up as such for long. For some reason the people they were stuck in their compartment with were far from quiet, and they seemed to want to spend the entirety of the trip yelling and… Arguing, it seemed. And Elliot could take no more of it.

Slamming his book shut, Elliot stood without a word. His cat, Duamutef, seemed to have the same thought as well. He hopped from the back of the bench and onto Elliot’s shoulder as he stood and proudly rode his perch as the blond grabbed the few items that he’d chosen to take into the compartment with him. The book he’d been reading and a small slice of cake wrapped affectionately in paper by his mother were tucked at his side.

Thomas seemed to follow him in suit though, gathering his items and standing up as well. It seemed like Elliot’s body language had been enough of a clue to the younger male that his brother was fed up with the place (if him standing abruptly wasn’t an even bigger clue, that was).

Not that he cared to check behind himself (as he was sure that Thomas was more than eagerly following him), Elliot slammed the door to the carriage open and left the two children to continue fighting amongst themselves in the hope of finding a better place to settle for the trip. It was unlikely that any other compartments were empty, but he just needed to be away from the noise.

Storming down the hall and swaying slightly as the train rocked along the tracks, Elliot ignored any talk that might be coming from his little brother. Really, he just wanted to sit in silence. There had to be a place around here for students that just wanted some peace and quiet. He stormed past various compartments filled with people, and he noted a few as they passed that only had a student or two in them— filing that information away for later if he couldn’t find a better place to sit down in.

But, much to his surprise, he was able to find a place for the two of them. Compartment one was still empty. Elliot could almost rejoice in splendor as he practically threw the door to the small room open. Slipping inside, Elliot parked himself on one of the benches against the window side— Duamutef hopping from his shoulder and onto his lap in a much-practiced manner. And there the cat sat as Elliot propped one boot up onto the bench across from himself. Yes, this place would be perfect to settle for the trip. Hopefully no one would come bother them in here, and hopefully Thomas would keep quiet as well.

That morning, unsurprisingly, Ahn was running around everywhere trying to gather her things for Hogwarts. Over the course of the summer, they had spread all over their cozy flat and even parts of the store. Ahn had tried to pack the night before but, of course, discovered she had forgotten many things by the time the next day rolled around. Her father ran around helping, her mother assisting as much as she could while also running the store. Once they were reasonably convinced that she had everything, Ahn kissed her mother goodbye, promising to be good and do well, and then she, her father, and her pet toad Alvise stuffed themselves into a cab, along with her school trunk and awkwardly-packaged broomstick. The driver kept giving them strange looks, but restrained himself from asking any questions as he drove to King's Cross station. During the ride, the by-now familiar mixture of emotions was rising inside Ahn: the excitement of going back to Hogwarts, seeing all her friends, practicing magic, and playing quidditch again, mingled with the sadness of leaving her parents and her neighborhood for a whole term.

She stayed even closer to her father than required by the small, cramped space, a few tears making their way down her cheeks. Her father put his arm around her and they rode in silence, enjoying these last family moments together before Ahn's departure. When they reached the station, it was the usual mess trying to get a trolley and pack everything onto it, and of course they were running a little late. They made it to platform nine-and-three-quarters in time, where the gaggle of students and noisy pets was thinning out in favor of the remaining parents. Ahn hugged her father tightly and jokingly instructed him to help his wife with the shop and not give away too many free items. He told her to take care of herself and to have fun. With one last hug, Ahn turned away quickly before she could start crying again, hopping onto the train. She made her way to the prefects' carriage, jamming her trunk and broomstick onto a rack before joining her fellow prefects (Alvise had already settled in for the trip).

She plopped herself down between Aniyah and Milo, completely ignoring the fact that there was no actual seat there.

"Hey guys!" she declared brightly in her familiar East London accent. "How were your summers?" She looked around at the other assembled prefects. "So I hope you all practiced hard... to lose to us this term!" she challenged. As Hufflepuff quidditch captain, she took the matter of the yearly Inter-House cup very seriously.

Pierre walked down the carriage looking for a place to seat. He had been through most of the compartments by this point looking for a compartment that felt right. Not easy feat considering he was not sure what he wanted. Part of him wanted on with a few others so he could be somewhat social. Yet another part of him sought the comfort and privacy of his own compartment.

This was his mother's influence he was sure. His mother since coming to England seemed to have nothing but negative things to say about everything and everyone here. Pierre himself was left in quarters in the place assigned to his mother and him since arrival. Forbidden by his mother to be influenced by the English for as long as possible. So this was his first real experience of the English wizarding world. Though a curious and open child, some of his mothers influence had slipped through and therefore nervous of what he might find.

He reached Compartment 3 and found it free. He entered and settled in, taking out a comic book from his bag before setting it in the storage compartment over the seat. The magazine was a comic book from Belgium one of his elder sisters had smuggled to him. It was of muggle origin and quite a popular one from what his sister told him, "TinTin." Something like this would never be allowed under his mothers watch. He settled on his chair and curiously began to real soon becoming enthralled.
