Tales of Ristafel

Ahh, that would be why.
I'm making her leave because I'm probably leaving this roleplay. With the GM gone, it's not stable. I've been on this site for a long time now. I know that any roleplay that gives me a headache isn't one I should stay in. Especially if I have a bad temper.
So, excuse me if I didn't make your character respect mine.
Are you seriously letting someone's actions IC get you salty OOC? You shouldn't "have a temper" over a game. Ajax is specifically a 'rules of nature' kind of character, so of course he's only going to acknowledge a character with a sense of pride or bravery. Allied characters rarely get along 100%, that's what creates interesting interactions, talks, and shenanigans in basically every piece of media. Instead of being so angry, you should roll with it without trying to break the game. Leaving obviously isn't a viable solution, so think of another one. Maybe Ayrenn mans up and raises a hand to Ajax. Maybe she drops the subject and gives him the silent treatment during the quest. Maybe she hires an assassin or something.

@The Velveteen Rabbit

Allow me to explain the issue in simpler, shorter terms:

You cannot determine results of interactions with others' characters yourself. It must be an agreed-upon result.

Now, why am I speaking up? You just did so with Lily. Lily is a rogue, and Dragonkin, AND HAS SUPER STRENGTH. Ayrenn literally cannot just escape Lily's grasp here without some sort of battle/fighting/what have you. Also, I have another issue.

You've broken the timeline, forcing multiple players to redo their posts after yours. That is, if we accept your edit. Which I won't.

From someone with eight years of roleplaying experience: If you make a mistake and the world says "we'll accept it but keep it in mind," learn from it and move on. We've explained why we're fine with the mistake being made already. Zerohex just wants you to learn from it, and is explaining in a somewhat abrasive manner. Admittedly, this post is also abrasive, so I apologize for that, but I stand by it.

The problem is that this action specifically involves losing players, which is toxic for a game. Now that we're this far in, it's tricky to get new recruits. You should feel obliged to stick with the game.

Way to miss the point buddy, if you even read the posts. I'm not actually trying to make a player leave even if my character's an asshole because, holy crap, I'm roleplaying a guy. I don't want her to just drop the roleplay because her character got yelled at, her character running up and punching a dude who could destroy her right in his dumb face was fucking picture perfect. Go on, tell me it wasn't. Tell me it didn't add to the characters, both of them because Ajax would let himself get punched to, in his mind, teach someone to be stronger and let the party hold together and the game move forward. Tell me your monk wouldn't have been impressed, he could've offered to teach her martial arts and further their relationship.

All I did was point out that hey, Velveteen has been instahitting and controlling fight results without letting people respond and that's generally frowned upon. Because it is. I explained why it wasn't very nice and explained that even though this punch would not actually harm my character because if it did that'd be ignoring our respective CSes, I would gladly let Ajax stand there and get punched to advance the storytelling. I offered examples on how to perform the exact same action without doing this frowned upon thing. I was nothing but polite and trying to help out so the RP would stay cohesive and the characters interact in meaningful ways.

But okay I guess I'm supposed to just roll over and let blatant powergaming be in order to not offend people. Despite, again, being nothing but polite in trying to explain why this doesn't sit well with me and trying to talk about how we could go over this in a fun way.

sorry. i didn;t give mysself time to cool down before responding. I tend to be just as if not even more hotheaded than vallen for comparison. Idk it's just that she probably understands this and is choosing not to retort for some reason or another. i will now just take a break from readin this thread, i;m sorry. i hope we can eventually come to an agreement but our opinions seem to difer so much that that seems impossible.

Look... You guys... I've had a really bad week. I don't feel like arguing. I'm sorry I fucked up. I fucked up a shit ton this week....

I know I'm not the best roleplayer in the world. I considered leaving roleplay the other day because my depression has been getting so bad. I've been in the hospital several times for the past three weeks. I don't want to make this an excuse, but... I really need you guys to understand that I'm not just mad or upset at you guys.

I just... I don't know.

I'm very sorry as well, not had a very good week myself. not an excuse, but i'm not gonna lie i kinda allowed myself to blow a fuse when it really wasn;t worth doing so.

I'm not seeing where our opinions differ at all. I've been polite as fuck, I've explained my grievances nicely and offered ways to keep the same general storyline without making anyone look bad or step outside their given powers. I'm sitting here willing to talk things out in a calm, productive manner. My character has been an asshole but I haven't used his powers to smash people to bits.

And suddenly I find a player decides to just up and quit rather than make a punch that's going to land (I fucking swear it will) just be ineffective according to both the CSes and someone else getting mad because that other player is leaving and threatening to leave as well.

Chill out, brosefs. The punch was fine, it was picture perfect and a great way to go about this character and further show that she's not just some damsel in distress with a cool pet and a monk boyfriend. It doesn't have to draw blood, you don't need your every attack to be effective, story-wise it was probably better if it wasn't effective because it shows courage in standing up to a monster.

I'm cool if everyone's cool. But if you do like Derg and tell me to go fuck myself after I've been polite despite having ample reason to be annoyed, it's reasonable I will not be a happy camper, yes? And no, Derg, I'm not upset at you, relax.

This is easily salvageable, all Velveteen has to do is keep the punch. I love the punch, I want it to happen, I'm sure people will agree the punch was aces. But she also has to admit that no, it won't be effective because making it work would be powergaming. And yes, I'mma state this as fact, but she really shouldn't make all her attacks land automatically. It's bad form, it's frowned upon, it's probably against sitewide rules. Let the other guy get a word in combat-wise, let them control what their characters do, actually play in the fight as well.

We get that ball rolling and we can move on with the quest and character relationships once the rest of the players wake up to see this clusterfuck. So, we cool?

For what it's worth, I apologize if you found my character too abrasive or my OOC actions annoying, but I have explained the reasoning behind them and I'm willing to talk about it. I assure you I have no problem with any player in this game and I'm quite enjoying it even without a GM. It might seem like it's going nowhere but there's natural character interaction going on that makes for a really interesting group dynamic, IMO, and we have a quest all lined up courtesy of other players.

I for one am quite enjoying how this roleplay is evolving. It is very hard to find a story that grows naturally like this one is doing and I'm going to follow it to its conclusion.

We're getting mad OOC at things happening IC. This is not good, we have to remember we are not our characters.

Is Ajax a big asshole? Of course, it's stated in his CS. He hates pretty much anything that isn't a non-magical melee fighter, and that makes up about 70% of our party. He is also stated to believe he is the best fighter in the world and that might makes right, which is why he looks down upon pretty much all of the party except Lily, who demonstrated she was crazy enough to hit him. He would hate Emerald, he would hate Gustav, he would hate Laria... he probably hates so many people it would be faster to list the people he doesn't hate.

Do Ajax's posts read a bit abrasive? Indeed. This is caused because he is using a biased narrator that has the same opinions as Ajax. But that doesn't mean his player is the narrator, it is yet another writing style. For example, my narrator seems to have some small opinions of his own to spice up the post a bit, but he remains mostly impartial. However, I have roleplayed in first person in the past because unreliable narrators are very funny to write, and I understand why Zero would like to use that style. In some way, it makes the post feel more like roleplaying and less like writing a novel.

Do you have to like Ajax? Of course not! He seems like a pretty unlikeable guy right now, but that doesn't mean he can't evolve and change. I am very sure Zero is well aware of this fact, but he is sticking to his role, which is being a big angry man who hates everything.

However, this doesn't mean you can't cooperate to a certain extent with him. You don't have to like how Ajax is, IC or OOC, but weirder coalitions have existed, both in roleplays and in real life. Yes, there may be one asshole in the group, but you have to think that pretty much all the other characters can be your friends.

El Saldo looks pretty friendly, and so do Emerald, Beltway and Gustav. Hadi and Hachi both seem to be good people, although a bit misguided because their etiquette is different from that of Ristafel. Lily also seems to be a good person, albeit too dumb to be fully aware of her actions or to know not everything is solved with punches. Vallen seems to genuinely care about justice, even seems a bit impulsive due to the way they taught him in his temple, but he is already aware of this and is trying to change. Ayreen also seems to be a loving person, although she is trying her best to protect her friend from potential predators and, since she is not a submissive girl, is getting a bit angry at this. Laria is also trying her best to make friends, but she is socially clumsy and will probably take some work to make her a bit more of an extrovert. I don't know much about the rest of characters since they haven't played much.

This only leaves Ajax as the party's outcast. As I said, you don't have to like him, and in fact you can even try to ignore him as long as the party is not in danger. Just think about it, would your characters rather reject a promise of adventure, riches, fame, friends and maybe love just because there is a single guy in a party of eleven adventurers who is a huge asshole? Laria sure wouldn't. This is her dream, and she would go as far as teaming up with Satan if the situation required it, and she is probably the character that should be interested the least in half of those things.

The point is, Zerohex is not Ajax. He is not an asshole OOC (although his latest posts seem a bit blunt, I assume because he may be frustrated about people mistaking the behavior of his character with his actual personality), and I am fairly sure he would probably dislike Ajax if it was a real person and not a character in a game. The beauty of roleplaying is that you aren't your character, and since it's just a game you can do whatever with it. Hell, if you are the master of Zen and roleplaying you could even try to play as the most unlikeable person ever and still be the complete opposite in real life.

You have to remember that the IC tab is just a game. Have you ever played Mario Kart with friends? If you did, I am sure you didn't get angry at your friend because he or she hit you with a blue shell just as you were about to get to the end first. This is more or less the same.

But this is another day. We have all slept and thought about it, and I am sure we all have realized our behavior was less than excellent. Now that the dust has settled, let's think again about it. Have we all acted correctly or did we let anger or frustration affect our decisions?

Now, what should we do here? Since this is freeform and mechanics are non-existant, to continue with the flow of the game each one of us has to give in a bit. For example, although Pressmaster Matthew wanted to bring the whole party to port without caring for Laria's desires, he finally got convinced with a promise of riches that were interesting for him. What does this mean for him and for me? Well, he has to adhere to the party and come with us to Sigmar's Mausoleum, and I have to prepare a sidequest to give him a rad flying ship. This can be solved in a similar way.

Zero has already stated Ajax is going to let himself get hit, with the condition that the punch will not hurt him. I think it makes sense, considering that his CS explicitly states he has natural dermal armor and Ayreen's thing is being a markswoman and not a melee fighter. Zero has also stated that punching Ajax is going to make him like Ayreen more, since it takes some guts to engage him in unarmed close quarters combat being a 5'6" girl.

Regarding Bravest's disappearance, I don't think it matters. I have planned a questline that you will probably enjoy, and the only difference between Bravest or me is that Bravest has mod powers in the thread and I don't. If this seems like an issue to you I could try to make a new thread, but I don't think it's necessary. Many other roleplaying sites are doing okay without this feature so I don't think it's a must.

All I think we have to do is to put aside our differences, agree to a middle ground and start the quest as soon as possible. I am fairly certain you will like it, and I would be very sad if you decided to leave right now.

Pssst, it's Pressmaster Crawley. Matthew be his first name, reserved for special occasions.

Anyway that lighthearted piece aside, this is a varied group of characters. And as such there will be conflicting goals and interests for the characters. And as such compromises will be occuring. Such as how yes, initially Pressmaster Crawley was just going to drag all to the docks to serve aboard the ship.

Now could I have insisted on just keeping that goal? Well yes, yes I could have.

But instead the compromise was made, due to Crawley having a desire to claim an artifact he heard of, and that the future seaman was a historian who knew of it. So, for now, he'll follow along for the quest on land, instead of just dragging the folks to the docks.

Anyway, the points were made before this bit of rambling on my part.

What I will say is, yes the natural evolution of the story is entertaining. I await to see how the characters will continue to grow and mesh with each other. I am quite interested in what the various individual goals of the characters will be, and how it'll shape things.

Such as oh, Pressmaster Crawley wishing to get back to his duties and planning to get you all to the docks for seafaring.

And I am interested in how the quest will go, and how the party will go about solving it.

I can imagine that, we all probably want to get out of the tavern and into the mountains, for some actual questing.

Literally every time I decide to act like a normal human being and go to sleep, things go tits up. That being said, I guess I'll post?

So uh, divergent timelines wat do. On the one hand we have two post responding to Ayrenn punching Ajax and on the other hand we have Xenonia's latest post responding to Ayrenn just leaving. Do I just play things out with Emerald and let Callsign and Comradesenpai edit/delete their posts? Should I wait and see what Velveteen decides to do and play it from there?

If it'd be better, I could change my post to Emerald helping Ayrenn out by summoning something I guess?

Well, not that everything was stated, and hopfully we are all chill, we can work things out.

Let's jsut assume that Velveteen punched Ajax unless stated otherwise. Hopfully we can all get along again!

I would like to apologize on my part for getting frustrated. I could seen that people were not getting along, and it was starting to bother me. Altogether i think things are working out well now1 Cheers to a new day!

Also, Mortal Kombat X comes out tonight, so i will be away most of the night. Heads up on that as well.

@Zerohex after rereading all of this stuff I realize I was being a massive dick last night and refusing to believe that you were just trying to keep things together, but you were. I apoligize. I'm not angry anymore, and I feel like the worlds biggest ass for being as such in the first place. We'll see what Velveteen does and go from there I guess...
