Alex paused when Nate paused and he looked at him. “I understand exactly what you mean. I love those two like brothers. And like all family, sometimes you just need space away from them.” Alex agreed, smiling at seeing that red flush. Alex moved away when Nate did. He started searching the drawers and cabinets near the bed.

Kaleb laughed when Carlos put his hands beneath his arms. He wasn’t expecting it, nor to be swept into the cabin. “Then so it shall be my troublemaker.” Kaleb agreed, laughing more at the twirl, the largest smile on his face. Then they moved apart to search the cabin. Kaleb headed towards the kitchen first, checking the cabinets.

Nate nodded as he opened drawers and searched through cabinets of the kitchen. As he pocketed several supplies he said, “that’s exactly how I feel. I loved Max and Ben too but sometimes it was nice to not be with them. You’d love them too, but I bet we’d like our own room sometimes.” He grabbed some more cans and walked towards the bathroom.

Carlos practically skipped to the bed where he plopped onto the mattress as he opened drawers near it. Life was so good. How did life get so good? It was amazing. He moved off the bed and towards the dresser. He loved when people kept both clothes and also knives in their dresser. It made him laugh. He had plenty of supplies to make so many beautiful bombs. And mines. He could make so many mines. Now that would be a picture to remember. Also a nice hatchet. That was going to come in so handy. It looked in amazing condition as well.

Alex was afraid he wouldn't be able to carry his pack soon. Or they'd have to pass on supplies because eventually it would be too much for them to bring with them. "I was the same way with my siblings, we all lived together in one section of the small house and it was tough sometimes. I loved my own space and it was very difficult to get that. So I'd love if we had our own room, alone." Alex mentioned as he moved along. "I think my pack is so full, I'm running out of room." He laughed as he looked over at Nate.

Kaleb looked over at Carlos who'd sat down on the mattress to open drawers. He checked the cabinets and found bottles, rags, and alcohol. He also found knives, some scissors and ammo in one of the drawers. "How did no one find all these supplies? It's crazy. My pack is getting crazy full and we've only done three cabins." Kaleb mentioned as he looked around.

Nate too was noticing that his pack was getting pretty heavy. They were finding so many things. There was now at they could bring more. There was no way they could walk through another cabin and not find too much. “I have an idea! Truth or dare right? Okay, let’s make it a whole thing. Eat way too much, because we have more food than we can carry. Have a great game. I don’t know what else did he want to do? Pillow fights or whatever? Splurge.” He took both of Alex’s hands. “I bet the boys are probably full too.”

“I hate to say this, my prince, but I think I literally can’t fit anymore in this pack. My strong arms cannot help if the backpack breaks.” Carlos gave up with additional searching, because why when there was no space? “Can we even look through another cabin like this? How did we find the best stash in the entire world?”

Alex looked over at Nate and smiled. “You know what? That’s a great idea! Why don’t we collect them and check out that huge house? Maybe that house will have fancy dishes and a big table and we can have that big meal we planned on.” Alex said as he felt Nate take his hands.

Kaleb glanced over at Carlos as well tested his own pack. “I think you’re right. Mines pretty full. I guess even in this state of the world, no one wants to check something that was abandoned long long ago.” He told him, stopping his own searching. “Should we go find the other two?”

Carlos nodded. “Let’s go see if they’re ready to rest somewhere.” He bounded out the door, possibly happier than ever, and into the streets. Nate walked backwards a moment before dropping one hand and leading Alex to the door and out into the street as well. Carlos was the first to call over “Guys, I’m full. I can’t get anything else!”

Nate called back, “us either.” He looked to Alex with a smile before turning back to them. “Wanna head to that bigger house? I’m thinking we absolutely gorge ourselves in a feast and play some party games?”

Kaleb nodded as he watched Carlos bound out the door. He smiled, seeing the other man so happy. Kaleb followed behind him, stepping out into the streets himself. His eyes caught on Nate and Alex stepping out of the other house and then his own smile brightened. “That’s a wonderful idea!” Kaleb said, finally making it over to Carlos’ side.

Alex laughed as Nate walked backwards for a moment before he led them both out to the street. Alex looked over at Carlos and nodded at the statement. He’d never had such a full pack like he did now. Alex smiled at Nate when he looked at him and nodded along. At Kaleb’s agreement, Alex smiled wider and then he turned to look at Carlos. He knew the man would already be in, he’d learned early on that Carlos loved games. Alex turned to lead the way, still holding onto Nate’s hand, and headed for the large house.

Carlos threw up his hands in an excited cheer. “Yes! Let’s do it! What games are we playing? I mean yeah truth or dare obviously. Or maybe just really big truth or dare?” He skipped forward past Alex and Nate but swiveled around slowing his speed and moving backwards. “This is the best place we have ever been. With this much supplies still hanging around, those hunters clearly never come out this far. I almost don’t think we should leave.”

Nate laughed and shook his head. “I told Alex something like that too. I’m just afraid that they’ll catch wise eventually and we would have to deal with them again. I’m going to be honest, I don’t think I can handle us getting hurt anymore.” He swung their arms as they made their way to the bigger house.

Kaleb loved seeing how happy Carlos was at the moment. It was beautiful and he deserved it. After living for so long in a place where everything was designed against him and others, he had gotten free. And that meant a lot to Kaleb, seeing him happy as they’d traveled together. “Well, if there’s enough beds, we can do a pillow fight, seven minutes in heaven, hide and seek would be interesting.” Kaleb listed the ones he knew. He heard both Carlos and Nate, taking a minute to think. “We are just a little too close for comfort with the hunters should they decide to move further from their city.” He admitted, as they grew closer to the big house.

Alex nodded. “I really don’t want to have us hurt more. Besides, it might not be possible to get our baby animals here. We’d need to travel to find them.” Alex said, smiling as he felt Nate swing their arms. “What’s seven minutes in heaven?” He asked Kaleb, confusion clearly on his face.

Nate’s attention swung quickly to Kaleb at the mention of these games. There were a lot of games that Nate had not played but knew much about, because people were people and they needed something to take their mind off of the constant war between them, the infected, and other people. When his mama was traveling without him, he, Max, and Ben all joined a bit of a party one night, and they did some crazy stuff. Nate ducked out as soon as the games got a lot more intimate. Ben and Max stayed and told him all about it the next day. That was one of them. How exactly did he explain that to Alex?

He did not need to. Carlos had it covered. He moved up into Alex’s personal space without hesitation and wrapped a strong arm around his shoulder and hooked to his back to pull him very close. “Two people are chosen somehow, could be by random chance or by committee vote, and they are sent somewhere dark and enclosed like a closet where they are all up in each other’s business and can do what they want for seven uninterrupted minutes.” With his other hand he cupped Alex’s cheek lightly before running his fingers into his hair and kissing him pretty intensely. When he pulled away, he breathed, “And it is a kissing a game.” He ran his fingers down Alex’s neck. “Or whatever else you want it to be.”

Kaleb looked over at Carlos, he knew exactly what would happen. He definitely did exactly what Kaleb expected him to do. Alex looked up at Carlos who’d come up right beside him, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and hooked to his back. Alex felt himself pulled closed, and his face was definitely reddening. He thought about what could happen in a closet for seven minutes and it made the blush even darker red. Then a hand cupped his cheek and he felt Carlos kiss him, so intensely, he lost his breath for a moment when he pulled away. Alex felt a weird jolt down his spine at the end of his last sentence and the feeling of fingers running down his neck. Alex glanced over at Nate, his face dark red. “Oh.” Was all he could say.

When Alex looked at Nate, Nate was rolling his eyes but had a smirk anyway. He should have known that was the best way to explain something like that. Of course Carlos would think of that immediately. He raised his brows as Carlos lingered there a moment before laughing as he turned to the rest of them, his arm still holding them close. “Is that a game you’d want to play?” Nate asked, though he was not sure who he was asking.

Carlos grinned, trailing those fingers back up Alex’s neck. “Now who wouldn’t want to play?” He slid his hand that from Alex’s back to his side and finally off of him as he backed away, spun once with a loud laugh, and bounded back to Kaleb. He hooked his arm around one of Kaleb’s and leaned against him, lips close to his ear. “Think of all the mischief we could get up to in seven minutes.”

Nate snorted out his own chuckled as he reached for Alex’s hand. “So Carlos likes the games where everyone gets to know about each other very intimately. Love that for us.”

Alex had to think about that for a moment. Did he want to play something like that? A small piece of him said yes. Another said no. He was torn in which piece to listen to. Alex swallowed at the feeling of Carlos trailing his fingers back up his neck. And then Carlos was gone, headed back to Kaleb. “Kind of..” Alex said softly, looking from Carlos back to Nate. “Well, maybe we should vote for each other first.” Alex added, starting to come back to himself, as he felt Nate take his hand again. They carried on to the house just a few feet ahead.

Kaleb watched with a smile as he saw Carlos spin once, laughing loudly before he was beside him again. Arm hooked to his and Kaleb blushed at the lips close to his ear. “Coming from my trouble maker, I can only imagine what’s in that head of yours.” Kaleb chuckled.

Nate smiled at Alex, amused by his reactions. “Can I vote for you and me?” He asked with a little chuckle.
“Unfair, Medicine Man!” Carlos called from behind where he clung to Kaleb. “What if I want a taste?” Unaware of the irony, he kissed Kaleb’s temple as they followed the first two into the house.

Nate, who stopped to hold the door open for everyone, smirked. “Sharing is caring. I’ll share mine if you’ll share yours.” He gestured with his head towards Kaleb. Did he really mean that? No, but it was amusing. He turned his attention to the house, which was still little in comparison to many of the buildings they traveled to but much bigger than the little one room cabins they checked just now. It was in such nice condition too like the rest of the abandoned town.

Alex chuckled himself. “Maybe I’ll vote for you and Carlos.” He said teasingly as he heard Carlos say that it was unfair. This was amusing to him as he stepped inside the house. It had a living room to the right opened up to a kitchen. There was a set of stairs to the left and up ahead was a dining room with a large table. Everything was in nice condition, almost like a preserved area, lost in time before things went crazy.

Kaleb heard Carlos and then he felt his own cheeks flush when he heard Nate. The blonde had to admit that he’d thought about kissing Nate. Why not? Everyone else has. Besides, what a sight they’d be in a closet. A former FEDRA officer and a former Firefly? Scandal right there. Tonight would surely be interesting, then again playing any game that could get intimate with Carlos was interesting no matter what. He stepped inside the house and looked around. It was a beautiful house, he did have to admit. If they weren’t so close to hunters, it would be like they’d already found their farmhouse dream.

Carlos was not expecting this new suggestion. Medicine Man and his prince? His Blue Eyes? Up to this point, Nate made no indications that he was in anyway interested in anyone but Alex. Was this playful jesting or were they finally awakening something beautiful in their medic? Was Carlos willing to share? Of course. For him, things like kisses were all about intent. Passion for one was not necessarily the same as passion for another. When he kissed Kaleb, that was different than when he kissed Alex. In the same way, he could tell the way Alex responded to his kisses were very different to the way he responded to Nate’s. They were some of the best ways to learn about a person. So yes, he would be more than willing to share Kaleb with Nate if that was a thing they wanted to try. “Why are we even playing any of these other games? Maybe we should have everyone kiss everyone and see how it goes?”

Nate laughed and shook his head. “You would say that.” He stopped at the beginning of this house and marveled. He had seen so few places as nice as this. Even the nicest ones were succumbing to either age or infection. This was like stepping out of their world and into one of those books. “Wow,” he breathed, a bit mesmerized by it all. He dropped his full pack and stretched out his shoulders. That really was heavy.

Kaleb looked over at Carlos with a smirk. “By the time we’re done tonight with these games, I’m sure that’s going to happen if you had your way.” He said laughing. Kaleb shook his head as he laughed as well. “I’m not held accountable for his actions by the way.” He joked, walking further in and looking at the beautiful table. It was perfect. Kaleb made his way to the kitchen, looking around before opening the cabinets. Plates, real ones. He pulled those down and behind them, hidden from view, were cans of food, but they looked different than the normal ones. He pulled them out, dusted the top off and read them. Pickles, green beans, and other assorted canned things. There was so much too. “Guys! Come check this out!”

Alex laughed with a smile. “I’ve got to have my fun too.” He said, before his attention turned to Carlos. Then he heard Kaleb and he laughed more. Yeah, knowing Carlos that was exactly what would happen. He heard Nate beside him and smiled as he dropped his own pack by the door, beside Kaleb’s and Nate’s. “It’s so beautiful here.” Then he heard Kaleb. “Come on, let’s go see what he found.”

This house was so beautiful, Nate briefly got lost in it. He turned his attention to the sound of yelling and finally chose to follow after everyone else. Carlos was, of course, the first to run in after him. Real plates! And what was that? Real food? That was crazy. “My love!” Carlos called in happy surprise. “What have you found for us? More for our promised feast?” Nate swooped in behind them and took those plates to set them on the table like he remembered some of the people doing who lived in one place and did not travel around. He traveled back to the cabinets and found cups. Glass cups! Some were short and some were tall. All sorts. He pulled a bunch out and also put them by the plates.

Alex had seen preserved food before but that was on his island. They did the old fashioned way, similar to these with a hot water bath to seal the lids. “We’ve got the promising start to a beautiful feast here. If you’ve never had pickles be prepared. They are the best thing in this world. Rivaling the ravioli.” Alex said before he walked to the sink. It had an old pump, if he was right. It should run off gravity not power. He grabbed the metal handle and started pumping. Gurgling sounds were heard and a moment later brown water first but after a few pumps, fresh water made its way out. “We’ve got water!” Alex said excitedly. Kaleb couldn’t believe this. Their luck was turning out great. This would be a night none of them would ever forget. “Fresh food, water, our family. What more do we need?” He asked happily.

This was unbelievable. Actually unbelievable. Nate had been to a lot of places with his mama over the course of the very many years he traveled. He came across a bunch of people living in a bunch of different ways. This was crazy though. When he met that old woman with the bread or the old man with his plant knowledge, they had places similar to this. He had not paid much attention to what they had in their cabinets or how they ran things like water though. They had candles for light, water from somewhere, and plenty of food they somehow preserved and kept. He should have asked more questions, and he regretted not doing so for years. Now, it seemed that did not matter, because Alex seemed to understand it completely. “I’m not sure there is anything else in this world that could make this better,” he admitted.

Carlos absolutely agreed. He came up behind Kaleb and slid his arms over his love’s shoulders, pulling him into a tight hug as he rested his head against Kaleb’s. “What did I tell you, love? I knew we could find something worth traveling for. This is where we’ve been headed out whole lives.” He kissed his cheek and gently squeezed him. “This is just a taste of what we can have in that dreamhouse of ours. I never doubted for a moment we could do it.”

Alex was so at home, it was actually a little painful. He’d never thought he’d miss the simplicity of his island. But he’d found something so achingly familiar, and this time it was better. He had his family. He had his Nate. His people. He looked over at Nate with a wide smile, it was so wide it had reached his eyes. “I doubt we’d find anything better, because it doesn’t get better. Now I don’t know about you two, but I think we should get this feast started.” Alex suggested.

Kaleb felt the arms come over his shoulders, and smiled. He loved the tight hugs and leaned his head against Carlos’ happily. “And we found our family along the way. Like everything is coming together.” Kaleb smiled at the kiss and placed a hand on Carlos’ arm. “I can’t wait for our dream house and to share it with you Mr. Price.” He said, though he heard Alex and hummed in agreement. “Yes. Let’s get this feast going.”

“I’ve always wanted a feast!” Nate was practically giddy. He had been talking about big feasts for years with anyone who would listen. The only way to make this better was fresh bread, but there was no way that they were having that today. That was okay. That was the first thing he planned on doing as soon as they found that farmhouse. He moved over to the cabinet full of canned food unlike any he had ever seen before. He pulled all of them down. “Do these work the same way as the rest? They look so different? I’m opening them all.” He pulled out bowls from the cabinets as well so that he could pour some of these foods into it. Or would plates be better? Bigger plates? He kept pulling more and more things down unsure what exactly he wanted, but he knew he wanted it all.

Carlos could have helped, and maybe he might have if he weren’t otherwise occupied by being delighted at their luck in life. That and how could he say no to the hand on his arm like that? He couldn’t. It was too good to pass up. Instead, he chose to help by supervising from afar. “See if they have one of those cool can openers in one of the drawers, Nate. We found one once but it was so rusty it didn’t work right.” He watched as Nate paused to look through a drawer and hold up a couple of things before Carlos called out, “Oh! That one! Yeah, way easier than shoving a hunting knife.”

Alex walked over to Nate. He saw the cans and started unscrewing them before he handed them to Nate after he’d found the can opener. “The biggest things with these cans Nate is unscrewing these pieces before you open them with that.” He explained. He could see the different bowls and stuff. “Alright. Can you two start taking the bowls out as we fill them? Or are you too busy in love to help?” Alex teased, looking at Carlos and Kaleb. As the cans were opened, Alex would fill bowls with the food.

Kaleb pulled away from Carlos with a laugh. “Come on my love.” He said, moving to grab full bowls and plates and bringing them to the table. He was eager to eat and he was enjoying the company of his family.

Bizarre cans, but Nate was down with them! This assembly line kicked off in full force as soon as Kaleb and Carlos made it over to the bowls. With each of them actively working, this moved faster than he could have dreamed. In fact, he could not have dreamed of this. This was how their every night was going to be at the farmhouse. They were going to have feasts with the four of them working together to make them. Laughing and joking and being happy. One family. Nate loved big families.

“Yes, I am very busy being in love, thank you,” Carlos commented as he grabbed a bowl. As he passed each person, he kissed them on the cheek until all three got theirs and he had to return for the next bowl where he did the same thing again and continued until they were done. “But you see how being in love does not hinder us at all? It only makes everything better.” He grabbed at Kaleb’s and Alex’s arms and beckoned for their hands. “Look at what he just did, family.” He stared at their table full of food. A feast for four. That was a real life dream.

Alex looked over at Carlos and laughed at the comment. “I can see that.” He said, though each kiss on his cheek made him smile as he continued his part of the assembly line. “No. Love does not hinder at all.” He said, feeling the hand on his arm, and he allowed Carlos to take his hand. He looked at the table of food and smiled. It was a real dream come true. Kaleb had helped bring the bowls out and when it was done, he took Carlos hand and they all sat at the table. “What a beautiful feast for our family.” Kaleb commented. He didn’t even know where to start to eat. Even Kaleb had never seen this much food.
