Yuki sat in silence after Kuto left, mulling over his words. He thought she was weak, something to be left behind for fear of being dragged down. Maybe it was true, deep down she knew she wasn't built for war and carnage, but that didn't mean she wasn't prepared to try. She didn't care if Kuto, the world, or even her own people underestimated her. She would make it their undoing.
She took out the elder's gift and stared at the three spheres in her hand. They were black as night and perfectly symmetrical, free of any blemishes, yet not a single flicker of the fire's light was reflected in its smooth surface. For a moment she considered tossing them onto the floor to be forgotten, but something in her told her not to. An act of defiance. Instead she threw the beads into the air, but before they could fall onto the ground she drew a line connecting the three. Thin vine-like fibers sprouted into existence mid flight and wrapped themselves around the orbs, creating a crude bracelet. Yuki caught it and took a moment to examine her handiwork before slipping it onto her wrist. The crone insisted she find another way, and she would. She would forge it herself. All her life she had relied of the advice of her elders and all her life she had suffered defeat at every turn, failure in every effort. Had she trusted herself she would have never allowed Izuru to step foot in the faelands after what his father did. In a twisted way Kuto was right, he couldn't make her stronger, that was up to her.
Yuki dashed out the door, grabbing her mother's mask mid-stride and fastening it over her face. As soon as she was outside she made a quick motion with her hand, summoning the snowy bird from the previous night. In a matter of moments it dived down from the tree line and skimmed over the snow towards its master. Just before the two collided, Yuki jumped over the winged beast and landed lightly on its back. It was battleworn and covered in the night's frost, but Yuki could feel her own strength flowing through it.
They followed Kuto's footprints into the forest and it wasn't long before Yuki spotted the hooded figure struggling through the snow. She flew the enormous bird overhead, shaking nearby trees, and swooped around to hover in front of Kuto. Though her face was covered by her mask, a furious light was in her eyes as she glared down at Kuto and her entire posture looked different. There was no hesitation in facing the demon, no fear in her eyes. One could even say she looked regal.
"You think this is about personal hate? That I want to destroy the empire over just a parent?" She spat out the last part, her words sharp. "Everything I ever knew was destroyed, yet still none of this is about me. How dark or painful the road is does not matter, my people are counting on me and I will sacrifice everything for them. I don't expect you will ever understand, but understand this; I will avenge all that was taken, and I swear by Yakul that those responsible will die screaming."
