Mackenzie watched Will mock consideration at her scenario's, delighted he was playing the game as well, so many things had happened between last night and this morning that there had been a time she was worried he'd learned too much about her history, knew too much about the truth that he simply wouldn't want to deal with her. She felt his hand on her knee, the gently caresses and she felt that knowing warmth return to her chest, a flush at her cheeks. "I'm all about compromise," She said quietly, shifting closer to lean against his arm, though she didn't take her eyes from him. "Maybe no dancing?" She offered, "And instead of a motel, there is a house back in Vitae with your name on it..." Staying out of the colony for an extended period was out of the question; too many things could happen to both the colony and themselves that 'running away' for the night was too dangerous of the time being.

William's smile widened. "Does that mean you've accepted my invitation?" he asked lightly. "But yes, that sounds great," he said, his tone quiet but genuine. He felt the tension in his muscles slowly ease, requiring nothing more than her warm body alongside his. He would be content to stay here for hours, all day even, simply enjoying Mackenzie's company if time would have allowed it. She had a way of bringing that affectionate buzz rising up in his chest like no other woman in his life ever had. Lifting his hand from her knee, he instead looped his arm around Mac's shoulders, allowing his hand to rest on her opposite arm before beginning the same caress. Under other circumstances he might have laughed -- in this position they probably looked like the carefree high school sweethearts from some old film, out for a romantic drive, just like Mac had mentioned.

After getting some food at the mess tent, which she's very grateful for, Ginny goes to see if she can't find someone to talk to, heading back to the barracks to start. She needs to figure out how things work around here.

Mackenzie sighed contently shifting her weight to lean against Will's side as his arm came to rest over her shoulder. She smiled slightly, tilting her head to look up at him intently. She was happy to hear he was interested in her 'offer' and she gave a small laugh. "Like I would ever deny you."

She settled in beside him quietly for the remainder of the drive, looking out over the road and forest, she hadn't paid attention to where they had gone, but she didn't care much, she trusted Will with her life; he would never do anything to put her at risk.

William's smile grew at Mac's comment, along with the warmth in his chest. Feeling Mac's green eyes on him, he took his attention from the road for a split second to give her a brief kiss, missing her lips and instead landing the tip of her nose with a chuckle before returning his attention to the task at hand.

He continued the rest of the drive in content silence, continuing to caress her shoulder as the sun rose higher in the sky to signal the approach of noon. It wasn't long before they approached the meeting spot where Will had dropped Chase off the day before. "Here we are," he said to Mac.

He pulled off the road onto a dirt patch partially shielded from view by a copse of trees. A glance at the nook that Chase had appeared in his shifted form as a final signal confirmed that the man wasn't here yet or, if he was, he was well-hidden. Will continued sending him a text, but decided against it. Chase would be here as soon as he could and texting him unnecessarily would only distract him further and possibly even compromise his cover. Besides, if he was shifted he might not even have access to his phone, leaving them with no choice but to wait for his arrival as his eyes scanned the surrounding treeline for any signs of movement. "So, if we get caught here, what's the story?" Will asked, his tone light. "Picnicking newlyweds? Bitter couple with car trouble?" Remembering what Mac's "scenario" from earlier, a wolfish grin crossed his features as he added: "Secret rendezvous with an 'escort' on their way to a nice hotel?"

Mackenzie smirked and giggled as Will attempted to give her a kiss, she didn't attempt to correct the error for fear of distracting the man from the road and killing them both. Dark eyes regarded the small sheltered clearing before them that Will declared 'there' and despite herself she hadn't a clue where she was.

She turned her attention back to Will as he propositioned scenarios and she couldn't stop her eyebrows from raising. She lifted her left hand and wiggled her ring finger, "No wedding bans." She rolled her eyes at the second suggestion. "Like I would ever have car trouble." Her smile spread as he brought up the secondary 'date' option.

She shifted along the bench, small frame easily climbing into the very same position she had been the night before on his lap; though this time not in the middle of the living room. "Well," she whispered against his lips, "I'm not sure you could afford my services, Councilmen Hendrix." She teased, kissing him carefully.

Part of William -- a small part -- wanted to gently turn Mackenzie down, tell her that they should stay alert until Chase's arrival, just in case. That part of his mind had its voice unceremoniously drowned out by the warm rush of blood to his face as he found himself leaning back to accommodate her while she climbed into his lap, green eyes shining like emeralds down at him. As she whispered, he felt a chill run down his spine, returning the kiss.

"Maybe not," he said, his tone barely above a whisper as he allowed his hands to come to rest on her hips as he gazed up at her, a mischievous smile forming. "Any way I could convince you to put it on my tab?" Will leaned forward to trace his lips along her collarbone, placing a kiss at the base of her neck. When he spoke, his voice muffled by her skin. "I'm good for it."

Solomon shrugged, " I have no issues with Pan using his power subtly, though it's unlikely, and I will await your decision on the matter. " Solomon said turning his wheelchair around and heading for the exit of the tent, " even if you decide not to use my friends help I will do what I can to help prepare your hunters." Solomon said in the hopes of reassuring Angela. After all he wanted to maintain a good relationship with the Council. They were all humans after all and they were going to need to band together if they were going to survive.

Chase's wolf form ran swiftly through the forest, darting through the trees and brush, and moving swiftly over the open area's. He didn't have to worry about his surroundings considering he was one of the pack now, he could run with little caution as to what he might cross on his travels. On three separate occasions during the trek Chase had stopped and circled back and around to be sure he wasn't being tailed by any of the pack members. He was making decent time with the speed but near the end he was quickly running out of stamina. It was hard to tell but from a look at the sky and suns position he was probably a little late.

Chase approached the area carefully, and once he neared the exact spot Will had dropped him off before he could already smell the two of them. He was panting heavily when he reached the tree he'd changed behind the day before, peering at the vehicle which he recognized as either Will's or Elijah's. And inside were...oh well that's just great. Chase huffed, having a clear view of the two humans inside the cab of the vehicle being rather sensual and clueless to the fact that he'd arrived. Honestly, if he wasn't already planning to try rather hard to be sure he didn't get any of their scent on him Chase would have walked behind the truck and jumped into the bed of it just to scare the shit out of them. Which could possibly land the wolf with a silver bullet between the eyes but considering the situation it would have been worth it.

The wolf would stop behind a tree that was closer to the vehicle but still a good twenty feet away and made sure he wasn't downwind currently. Shifting took slightly longer due to the momentary fatigue, and as he stood still hidden from them he rolled his neck and stiff shoulders.

Chase cleared his throat loud and purposefully, "I see you two found a way to occupy yourselves until I arrived. Someone grab the bag out of the back of the truck and toss it towards the tree would you?" He'd speak loudly from behind the tree. Unknown to them he'd asked Joe to pack a pair of the older mans own shorts in a bag and place it in the truck before they left Vitae. This way Chase didn't have to speak to them in the nude, but mostly so that his fathers scent would be on his body to corroborate his story of where he'd gone. "Just keep your distance, I don't want to go back with either of your scents on me."

Angela glared at Solomon as the arrogant ass turned and wheeled himself from the tent. She thought to stop him, to tell him he would do no such thing without the Council's expressed permission but she stopped herself. He would soon find out what happens to those that act against the Council's wishes. They weren't welcome in Vitae.

Sandy had waited diligently for Solomon to finish his meeting, sitting at the empty receptionists desk and playing on her phone. The first sign of the man struggling though the tent towards her she was on her feet and taking up behind his chair. "So? How did it go?"

Mackenzie grinned as she tilted her head back and closed her eyes feeling William's lips wander along her neck. "Oh?" She inquired softly at his mumbled request. "Councilmen get a pay raise?" hands rose one coming to rest on his shoulder the second slipping behind his neck, fingertips slowly stroking.

She froze hearing Chases chastising comments come from the exterior of the vehicle. To say she had forgotten Chase would be false, but the wolf had slipped her immediate whilst she had been distracted by Will. She swiftly pushed herself from his lap and slid back across the bench seat, a flush deepening across her cheeks. This had not been embarrassing when Ash had caught them because it had been Ash.

"You should probably be the only one near him," She said after clearing her throat looking rather sheepish.

William felt another chill run down his spine as Mackenzie's fingers ran across the back of his neck and was on the verge of simply giving into the moment and forgetting about the outside world when he heard Chase's voice from outside. Instantly the blood ran to his cheeks as Mac disentangled herself from him, sliding across the bench seat in the blink of an eye. We've got to stop this from becoming a habit.

He nodded at her comment regarding proximity, eyes cast anxiously downward as he pushed the driver's side door open and stood, walking with a stiff stride to the back of the sedan to find the bag Chase must have been talking about. He grabbed it, taking a few cautious steps toward the tree before tossing it outward and turning around to give the man privacy. "All yours."

fff_zps4rxngdyd.png

Chase stepped out with hands covering the most important bits, crouching by the bag and carefully opening the zipper and pulling out the shorts before retreating behind the tree again. Once they were on his body the man would step back out but stay near the same tree. Mac was keeping her distance, still in the car. For a moment before he started talking Chase tilted his head to listen, just in case he could make out any non-human noises in the vicinity as well as smell. This meeting was risky and he wouldn't lie that he was a little nervous about it. Once his attention focused back on them he set his glare on the female, "Thanks for warning me that your family was a part of the pack, Skye. I had to find that out from your father, who happens to be the Beta. And I'm pretty sure your brother tried to kill me too."

"That little lack of information risked not only this mission and Vitae, but my life as well."

Mackenzie remained where she was within the car until Chase re-emerged from the tree line dressed in his shorts, she had no interest on peeping on the wolf. When he returned to sight she slid back across the bench seat to the drivers side and sat cross legged facing out the open door. Chase returned with a glare and immediately started scolding her.

"Pardon me for not knowing the hierarchy within the pack." She hissed with a glare of her own. "How would I know they were there if I haven't seen my brothers in ten plus years? My father since I was twelve? I'll do better next time to scout it out before you go out to scout next time."

Will was caught off-guard when he heard Chase emerge from the tree, turning back around at the sound of the man admonishing Mackenzie. William watched silently as they lashed out at each other, waiting until Mac was done speaking to intervene.

"Hey!" he barked, assertively but not angrily. "I think we agreed not to kill each other already." He wasn't interested in taking sides -- both had a point. Chase was understandably angry at what must have seemed like a major omission when his life was already on the line, but Will knew Mac hadn't intentionally deceived him.

He took a deep breath, turning to regard the werewolf. "How bad is it, Chase? Do you think you're compromised with the Pack?"

fff_zps4rxngdyd.png

He had to keep speaking loudly due to large gap. "All you had to do was say Hey, my family might be there, just be aware." Mac was blowing it off like it was nothing, like it couldn't have been avoided. Chase simply crossed his arms over his chest while William played middle-man and he let out a sigh to take it down a notch. "No, I'm fine. As far as I can tell they don't suspect anything but it hasn't even been twenty-four hours yet. They've been...welcoming." He knew how that might have sounded, but he didn't care.

"Will you're still new to the council thing so I'm assuming your out of the loop on this one. There's someone at Vitae who wanted to leave and join the pack. Emile..." Chase caught himself realizing they wouldn't know who he was referring to and quickly corrected. "The Alpha's reasoning for going after Vitae is because the council is supposedly threatening the banishment of his friends and family if he were to leave the colony."

Bullshit. Mackenzie made an aggravated noise and rolled her eyes as Chase finished telling Will what he had learned from the Pack Alpha. Lips parted to argue, but a quick glance to Will she snapped her jaw closed with an audible click. She knew Will didn't want them to argue, this would have been the third argument he had to step between the two of them. She inhaled slowly, carefully choosing her words to get her points across without it sounding like she were telling Chase he was wrong, even if he was.

"So Vitae's Council is holding a hunter against his will with threats to banish his family?" Alright so it was a plausible statement given only hours ago the same Council had voted on whether or not she lived. "And the Alpha uprooted his pack to come and free said hunter ... why? Out of the goodness of his heart? Because he's a nice guy?" While she would leave the potential for the Council to do a rather nefarious thing like threaten a hunter and his family, she doubted greatly the Alpha Werewolf had traveled this far for just that.

William's forehead tilted as he raised a hand to rub at it, eyes closed in an attempt to process the information. He hardly believed it, if at all. Nothing he had seen or heard of this Pack would paint them as benevolent liberators. Was this Alpha Emile testing Chase? Blowing smoke until they determined his loyalty? Or maybe they already knew his true allegiance... and they were deliberately supplying him with disinformation. It would explain the warm welcome.

Will waited until Mac was done before speaking up himself, with a slightly more neutral tone. Though she had voiced the same doubts he felt, he knew he had to walk the line and keep an open mind. The last thing he wanted was for Chase to feel that they didn't appreciate the information he had gone out of his way to collect. "I'm assuming they didn't give this Hunter's name or why he's so keen on joining... not to mention what makes him worth the risk of all-out war."

The story was far-fetched, but William had to begrudgingly admit that he wouldn't put it past the Council to keep such a ham-fisted attempt at enforced loyalty a secret. "I'll do some poking around on our end to see if the Council is hiding any skeletons. What else?"

fff_zps4rxngdyd.png

Chase nodded as they spoke their opinions on it, he didn't blame the fact that their hesitance to digest the information. When Will asked if they'd given the hunters name Chase shook his head, "I wasn't given a name and I didn't want to push for info. From what I can tell the Alpha thinks more than just the one will join the pack if he takes Vitae, just like Borseti. He's trying to increase the packs strength because they are afraid of what's coming. Something called the First Sin, and the Apocalypse is meant to follow. It's something I think you two should look into, you don't want to trust the pack's information that's fine, but trust me." The man rubbed at the back of his neck.

"They think they can take Vitae with minimal casualties on their end so that it's worth their while and honestly...they number at sixty plus. And that's not including the young, old, injured, and human pack members they have still at Borseti. The fact that they aren't asking me for much of anything about Vitae means they might have somebody on the inside feeding them the info, maybe even the person being held against their will." It was really hard to say on the subject. Emile said he knew what he needed to know and that was that.

Mackenzie followed along Chase's train of thought, good call on not asking more questions about the hunter; despite it being valuable information on their end, it could be the Alpha attempting to see if Chase was doing fact checking on his end. It made sense that the Alpha would believe that if he took over Vitae he thought he might have the same results as Borseti. At the tip of her tongue she was about to ask if they had aligned themselves with a Nest, like that had previously when his last statement gave her pause.

"Pack members they have still at Borseti."

She blinked watching Chase as she replayed what he said over in her mind, making sure she had heard him right. "Did you just say they have Borseti? Like not just the colonist they turned but the place?"

The mention of the "First Sin" and the Apocalypse promised to come along with it was not something Will had expected. He hadn't given much thought to possible motivations for the Pack; he had simply assumed it to be hatred for Hunters -- perhaps a need for revenge and the desire to turn the tables. The idea that they -- in their own minds, at least -- were attempting to outlast something even worse was daunting. Chase seemed to genuinely believe that there was something to it, which was reason enough to at least consider the possibility. He made a mental note to ask the others about the First Sin later on, see if there was any basis in the lore. Turning over every stone couldn't hurt.

Of more immediate concerns were the Pack's numbers -- more than enough to give even a well-defended Colony pause... and Vitae was no fortress manned by an army. Not yet. The mention of possible infiltration sent a chill down Will's spine. It was a concern he'd had since day one, the same one he had unwittingly accused Chase of. He may have been wrong about him, but his concerns seemed genuine. Yet another reason to be discreet when asking around to follow up on what Chase was telling them.

"Did you just say they have Borseti? Like not just the colonist they turned but the place?"

Shaken from his thoughts, Will raised his eyebrows as he glanced at Mackenzie. "I thought they were nomadic. I didn't think holding territory permanently was in their M.O." His attention turned to Chase. "Human pack members? That's new for me."

fff_zps4rxngdyd.png

Mackenzie seemed rather surprised by the knowledge and Chase shrugged at her question, "Seems like they ended up settling there." It made sense in a way, why leave a dwelling unoccupied. "Human pack members was new to me too, and it suggests a very...flexible pack? The Alpha told me I was free to come and go as I pleased, that if I wanted to leave the pack for good that it was fine, he's not into having those who don't wish to be there around. The man's oddly reasonable considering what we've heard about the pack and it's past, it can be off-putting." Which to be fair wasn't much as far as Chase was concerned. He knew Borseti fell, and that Mackenzie was supposedly the only survivor. But that was it, he only knew the general gist and none of the details.

"Best part is that hunter supposedly told the council about it and they've dismissed him. Which means the Council knows about this potential threat of the Apocalypse. This threat has the pack nervous, enough to send them across the country in search of recruits. So I'm more inclined to believe it to be true."

Mackenzie was floored by the realization that her home, the one she was so sure had been burned to the ground, still existed. It was hard for her to consider, to wrap her head around but it wasn't the focus of their meeting. She closed her eyes and shook her head before continuing. "So they're frightened about an apocalypse and have come here to recruit, and they're not necessarily recruiting only wolves, or even turning those that join?." Eyes opened again to watch Chase, concerned. "I don't doubt your belief in what they've told you; but I'm an Oracle and Hypnos hasn't given my squat on an apocalypse." She raised a hand to prevent either of them from speaking. "To be fair, he hasn't given me much else, either."

She sighed then. "Did they say anything about aligning with a Nest? Vampires? That's what happened in Borseti, any reason to believe they might have done so again?" She was certain she and Will would have to start writing down a list of items to squeeze out of the Council.

William had been able to wrap his head around an alliance of Packs with Purebloods at the helm. It was rare, but not without precedent based on what he had heard from Elijah. But an army made up of Wolves and willing human recruits all with a steadfast belief in their cause... that was something very different. Speaking of their cause, the more he heard about the supposed Apocalypse, the more it gnawed at him. He wanted to believe that it was mere superstition -- a ploy to recruit for the Pack... but he didn't believe that for a second. As Chase and Mackenzie discussed the truth behind it, Will remarked, "Regardless of whether it's true or not, the Pack believes it. That's enough for me. Can't hurt to look into it further. Something has them spooked."

He paused at Mac's mention of the possible involvement of a Nest. It was a valid question. However, the irony that it had been Franklin who worked alongside the Pack at Borseti and that now he was their ally of convenience wasn't lost on him. "You think Franklin might know more? I wouldn't be surprised if he was keeping tabs on any Nests south of the border getting involved with the Pack."

fff_zps4rxngdyd.png
Chase frowned when Mackenzie questioned the subject with her own Oracle identity. Before he could snap out a reply about how he didn't own an Oracle manual she stopped him which earned a disgruntled huff from the man. She continued on mentioning the Vampires and Chase raised a hand up to scratch at his chin and looked between them. "No mention of any vamps. Other than the fact that he said they're kind weren't invited into the pack. Though I wouldn't know if that has a reason behind it or if it's just the fact that they smell worse than death itself to those of us with a heightened sense of smell." His nose crinkled even at the thought.

A small twig snapped somewhere in the wooded area further back behind Chase and mans head twisted abruptly to listen, body tensing for a moment before relaxing once again. He hated being so on edge.

Mackenzie nodded then, content to hear the pack was not involved with a nest, at the least if they failed, if Vitae fell to the pack they wouldn't be subjected to what she and her brothers were after Borseti. She watched Chase turn to listen to something she had not heard and when he returned hi attention to she and Will she spoke. "That's all I have for now." She and Will had a laundry list to take up in Vitae but she continued. "Don't push, Chase. They're friendly and giving you information, keep it that way. We'll fill in what we can with Vitae and the Council: I think their Oracle is going to come home with a vision of the Apocalypse." She glanced to Will waiting to see if he had anything to add.
