Yeah they definitely have very different circumstances for sure. Byleth has situations in which he gives alternatives (like asking someone to stand down and reason with him) but when they deny said reasons, he is forced to show little mercy upon them. He'd probably fully understand Layton hesitating to take a life. He's was in that position once. Plus he had to see his own students be faced with that decision too. It isn't easy to come to terms with and he fully gets it, even with how stunted his own emotions are. The dynamic between him and Layton would definitely be interesting for sure. You have two very different professors, who somehow bond over tea and become close friends. Both of them can learn from the other

Now that's an idea: Layton and Samus going undercover for an investigation. There's an opportunity for Samus to wear her dress, longcoat, and hat! Maybe Joker and Snake are involved too! Layton and Samus is an interaction I've never thought about until today, and now that I am thinking about it, there's a lot of potential for both awesome and wholesome moments.
Layton is such a kind and mellow guy. I feel like you could talk to him about anything, even your problems, and he'd listen without preaching or passing judgement.
Oh, and GOD HELP YOU if you threaten Luke while both Layton and Mama Samus are around! Lol I pictured a Moblin or some other baddie roaring at Luke, and Luke doesn't flinch at all because Samus suddenly pops out of Morph Ball form behind him and shoots the enemy!
Layton puts the "gentle" in gentleman! He just ends up becoming everyone's dad in the RP lol
He'll be so much fun in this RP. He'll pop up one day, when the time is right!

Based off what little I know about Joker, while I'm sure Layton would understand why Joker does what he does and sympathize with him, he likely wouldn't approve of his methods! I think he'd know Joker is a good person at heart, but still see him as a poor influence for the Little Brothers.

Honestly a fair assessment. While what he does is to help others, he does act recklessly which isn't the greatest influence to have on others lol

Joker probably would just chuckle and give a shake of his head. He's used to disapproval of what he is by now, but no amount of disapproval can take away the fact that he saved the entire country of Japan from falling into the hands of some false god

I don't think I'll do this, but Lunaris could've pulled Layton into the Smash Realm to force him to find the Pilllars, as he's known as the best puzzle-solver, threatening to harm Luke and/or Flora if he doesn't cooperate. Layton does so, but leaves hints behind in the form of puzzles to help the Smash Bros. and tries to sabotage Lunaris and his goons any way possible!
The biggest reason I likely wouldn't do this is because Layton is so awesome that he'd likely find and rescue them himself before tea time lol
