Find Contraband: 56% (+4%) or Boxing! One helps my character find what he (it's a he!) is searching for (lost knowledge and wisdom). The other helps him survive long enough to learn it! This is the skill slot I was bemoaning when I thought we were forced to choose literacy for our native languages.

But which to choose?

Decisions! 8D

At these lower levels, we will advance pretty quick. I say go for the Find Contraband at first level, and then get Boxing at level two.

Sounds wise! I thank you for your wisdom! =)

Sherwood Sherwood Waitaminute... Could we forego Organic Thrusters and instead take jet packs?

Waitaminute again... we can't use the "jet" packs without the skill Pilot: Wing Packs, can we?

Oh. And if we don't have Operate Bio-Equipment (Main 199), will "have no idea how Bio-Tech works nor how to feed, care for, maintain, or operate even the most basic organic equipment or Bio-Weapon." Wow. So... we can't use our Bio-Weapons without this?

Sigh. Back to redoing my skills again.

I guess I can't ride Mega-horses, as good as my character is in the Wilderness otherwise. Goodbye Horsemanship, hello Pilot Wing Packs.

Sherwood Sherwood Can we take Wing Packs and use the 35 Bio-E on something else?

You will not be able to upgrade your wing pack with Bio-E points, and you'll need the Pilot Wing Pack skill. Other than that, yes, you can.

Do the Organic Thrusters require Pilot: Wing Pack?

Operate Bio-Equipment is pretty much a needed skill in order to use -any- human technology anymore. I would strongly suggest that you don't drop that one.

That's how I read it too. Good to know! =)

Hey! First off, how are you feeling? Are you coming off of your cold all right?

Concerning the game, do you think the skill Find Contraband will increase my character's chances of finding the artifacts that he is looking or will it not come up that often?

Is it possible to "respec" one's Bio-E? In other words, if we don't like our build, can we go back to our House Artemis and make changes to our host armors or animal buddies?

I am thinking that if this is possible, it might take some stress out of the Bio-E decision-making process. I don't want to select a build I don't like only to discover it can't be changed.

(I am taking a Cyberpunk-style approach to my character's Bio-tech here. It's fun!)

There are a lot of unknowns with our first time in Splicers. I'm looking forward to discovering more!

Thanks again for allowing me to choose a weapon-based martial art!

I'd like to know how the Weapon Proficiencies from Ninjas & Superspies translates to Splicers? In other words, does W.P. Naginata translate to W.P. Pole-arms? W.P. Daisho becomes W P. Paired Weapons - Swords?

Does the Archery skill in N&S translate to W.P. Archery? And so forth. This will not only affect the usefulness of each skill, but his starting gear too.

Doing much better now, thank you. Finally starting to feel human again.

Find Contraband will come in handy.

Normally, I would say no to redoing the Bio-E purchases made, but since we are all new to the Splicers world, I will give everyone a chance to rebuild your Host Armor/War Mounts once we all get to see just how well things work.

Hooray! Welcome back to the land of the living, Bud! 8D

Then it is staying! =)

Once is better than zero! =)

Below is just some mental meandering.

I have come to realize something since posting this. We don't know if this is Earth or not. Bellaire leaves that to each GM to decide.

If it is, then things like katanas and naginatas in the martial arts style itself certainly exist.

But if this is not Earth, then it stands to reason there is no Bruce Lee for Jeet Kune Do, and there are no samurai, no Rhee family for Tae Kwon Do, no World War II or Israel to create Krav Maga.

Certainly, there are no ancient temples filled with bald-headed people following martial lessons brought about to them by their meditative studies of the animal kingdom. =)

If that is so, then what do we do? Who cares about a martial arts system that has no philosophy?

The answer, at least for me, is perhaps I create the meaning behind the not-Earth pseudo-Zanji myself. After all, Erick Wujcik created the system out of whole cloth. It might be neat to add a fantasy on top of a fantasy.

While I also realize I am probably the only person playing Splicers who has even any remote interest in this, I feel like I could do this for the fun of it. =)

Thanks for reading! =)

This could be a world settled by humanity a long time ago, making it possible for a lot of what you are talking about to be there, hidden away in some nook or cranny.

It also specifically states in the books that NEXUS has frequently remodeled the planet's terrain to suit her desires on more than one occasion, and that alien DNA has been used in the creation of some Host Armors, so it could be Earth, or another planet entirely.

Sherwood Sherwood So, before we go off-tangent too far, how does that affect this? On my character sheet, I have it listed as translated (W.P. Polearms instead of W.P. Naginata, etc.). Do you have a preference? If it is W.P. Polearms, he can use them all (and will come with one according to the O.C.C.). If it is W.P. Naginata, then it's only that polearm and somehow, someway, he comes with one.

For Splicers, I was going to remedy this by going with the basic melee items in the Main Book (for example, the basic spear in the main book instead of the insect credit-purchased spear in I Am Legion).

On another note, while I doubt my character will be as combat-effective as either Psychie's or Mirgris's, this of course is not a competition. However, with the addition of Zanji Shinjinken Ryu, my character suddenly seems to become pretty well-equipped for melee. That's good for a Deliveryman used to operating solo + birb.

But what do you think?

It is not too difficult to imagine one of the Librarians being able to bio-craft you a melee weapon with a specific shape to it that will work with your Zanshen, like a Naginata that uses the same general stats as a pole arm or an Acid Sword in the shape of a Katana.

You are correct in thinking that your character is probably going to be more a scout and stealthy guy than the up-front fighter of Toni or Mirgris, but you have that Stealth Field that will make you even harder to target, then with your Auto Dodge, you are hardly a slouch in a fight.

Precisely one of the big reasons I wanted a martial art system in the first place. If I wanted a pushover, I would have went in with Hand to Hand: Basic and those 3 Skills somewhere else. No one studying Zanji Shinjinken Ryu (or any form of serious sword-based martial arts) should be a slouch in a fight. If they are, perhaps it is time to find new instructors! Ha ha! =)

Sherwood Sherwood So, do you want the W.P.s to be their Splicers counterparts (Polearms, Archery, etc.) or otherwise?

Concerning gear, it is mentioned that each of our classes gets a weapon plus ammunition for each W.P.? That's a decent -sized melee arsenal for Zanji. That's why I don't mind at all going with the basic weapons - but only if that's what you are comfortable with. =)

Skill wise, we can go with the Splicers' versions of your various melee weapons.

Gear wise, I'll let you start with two of your archaic WPs of your choice, along with any modern Bio-Weapons that you have the WPs for.

I remember reading in the description of the Chig bio-hand grenade that they can be attached onto an arrow with a slight decrease in range, but giving it an explosive punch.

Any recommendations on the archaic W.P.s? I'd like to cover W.P. Paired Swords and... Archery?

Shoot. That's three weapons (and I'm a little "brain-burned" from posting as O Mighty Fat Cat just now). Yeah. Any recommendations, please?
