Futuristic Space Pirates: Rouges of the Galaxy

dualApocalypse

Beast of the Dark Forest

Story

After a long period of war, there is finally cosmic rest. Many interplanetary nations are beginning to recover and open their trade routes again, and for a pirate that means many things. The newly opened routes and the ships that travel them are unsure and weak, but the military districts still tense from war will be diligent in protecting the shining hope they've gained after long years of darkness and blood. From the shadows, the pirates that feed from the rich during days of peace emerge. Some hid while the war went on, others followed it to collect valuables from its victims, while the strongest of said pirates were commissioned by their nations of origin to fight for them in exchange for a hefty sum.

Needless to say, taking too much too soon will turn the attentions of the military nations, the result of which is death. Inactivity makes a Captain and his crew weak, putting them at a disadvantage to the competition. A fine balance must be maintained in these times of wavering peace.

Both seasoned Captains of space and time travel will be out there, as well as pioneers to marauding the galaxy. While some will have crews and fleets for an advantage in number, others operate independently for a stealthier approach. The eyes of the Intergalactic Protectors of Citizen Welfare (Space Police) are always searching for criminals, and the bounty hunters are twice as diligent, as the price on a pirate's head is high.

The RP will start near Klaxxis, known as the center of the universe by any civilization capable of space travel. It's the best place to get repairs for spacecraft, pick up supplies, hire new recruits, and buy useful tools and weapons from dealers who bring competition from all over the galaxy. However, because of the high population of this planet and its worth in goods, the IPCW patrol it carefully.

Humans are fairly new to space travel, and it's uncommon to catch them wandering outside of the military's protective gaze. Still, as humans do, some curiously wander into the darker realms of space. Most are unfortunate, finding themselves victim to piracy. However, those savvy enough are often 'adopted' by trading caravans or pirates looking for an extra hand.

Staring out the window in front of the Captain's seat and control panel, Jupiter examined the familiar planet he was nearing steadily. While to him it was going rather slowly, his ship was, in reality, moving rather swiftly. Beside him, Callisto overflowed with excitement, seeing as this was the first time she was being allowed to exit the ship to fetch supplies from the trade planet. Before, she was considered too young to face the 'dangers' the small but prosperous planet offered. Today, though, she clutched a long list of supplies she and Io had been assigned to fetch. Jupiter patiently listened to her bubbling excitement as he steered the Valiance toward a shady but safe docking station far from the eyes of the space police.

With Jylrek being repaired, Baxely had at least two hours on Klaxxis to make money off of some of the "gifts" he charmed away from the last caravan he met. Who knew that some people were stupid enough to treat you like a dear friend just for speaking their language?

Well, he technically didn't steal the exotic sapling (apparently the caravan leader had a thing for plants, he guessed) in his hands, so he could sell it to just about anybody without the Space Police hounding him. Of course, he didn't actually know what the sapling was, but that was just an excuse to be creative!

"Selling a mystery plant!" He shouted in a language he'd heard several shopkeepers speak at a shady harbor nearby, "Name your price! It might be medicine, it might be toxic! Whatever it is, though, it's certainly exotic!"

He added that last bit to make his sales pitch more catchy.

The day had been a long one and nothing was getting easier even with all the advantages.Someone was on his tail.No one knew Psych's name.People have only seen him in rare instances when he was a vigilante but he never talked or stayed around too long. After being a vigilante and turning into a space pirate,he had almost completely vanished.Recently, however, someone had finally discovered him and his new life as a space pirate. This is the first time he's been caught and it was by a bounty hunter.Psych did not know who the bounty hunter was,but from what he could gather,he was the most dangerous. So far,no other bounty hunter has even heard of Psych but even if they had, they would be too scared to chase him and fight him. This anonymous bounty hunter had guts.

Psych had rented a small warehouse to get set up for the next few days after finding out that he was being chased. From wall to wall, the place was filled with weapons, ammunition, gadgets, armor, and all sorts of crazy inventions. It was times like these that helped Psych to focus and relax. He didn't have help from anyone so he was alone in the warehouse,at a rather quiet but dangerous part of the city where he would not be disturbed. All that was heard was machinery and Psych doing his thing. His ship was parked right outside the warehouse in a pretty large hangar. All he had to do was move some equipment in the ship, equip his weapons and armor, and get going. He reached down towards his utility belt and extracted a small injection device created to inject drugs.A pink fluid sloshed around in the vial and the needle was hidden.Once Psych put the device up to his neck, the small needle protruted for a short moment and began injecting the fluid. The needle slid back into the device when it was done and Psych took a deep breath. His mind was slightly more stable for now.He continued his work.

Standing up from the captain's seat, Jupiter walked to the main door of the ship. Pressing his hand against the touchpad lock, he waited exactly five seconds before removing his hand and pulling down on the blue lever next to it. The door hissed softly as the lower air pressure of Klaaxis filled the ship. Shaking his head irritably and flexing his jaws in order to pop his ears, the Captain grabbed his plasma rifle by the strap and slung it over his shoulder. Jupiter winced at the sudden and unwelcome light of the outside world, feline-shaped pupils narrowing into tiny slits as he waited for the hatch to lower fully so he could step out. Once it touched the ground with a soft clunk, he shouted a warning to Io and Callisto as they raced off the ship eagerly. Taking the stairs one step at a time, he stretched his long legs and gave his tail a flick. Giving himself a great distance from the Valiance, he examined its exterior to make sure it was unharmed. The sleek fighter from Zortos was built for speed and stealth, and its darkly colored metal had a bluish sheen to it. Satisfied that it was unharmed but for a few scratches, the Captain walked into the marketplace to purchase some personal effects.

Once he was deep into the market, having left Ganymeade to guard the Valiance, Jupiter heard voices calling out in different tongues. Switching on his translator, he listened in with little interest to someone advertising a magical sapling. He looked toward the voice and turned his head slightly to one side, incidentally making eye contact with the thin, human-looking creature. He could tell, though, that it was not speaking any human tongue.

Braxtes stuck to his quarters in the lowest deck of the Valiance where he was in a large room filled with weapons, prototypes, advanced tech from his home planet that he tinkered with and modified and pieced together to make something of his liking. Just recently he made a plasma ripper, a weapon that fired high concentrated amounts of plasma that could pierce a hull of any common fighter, burning a hole right through it. To imagine what it would do to a person's body. Only problem with it was that it was semi-automatic and if he wanted it to fire a stronger beam it couldn't be semi-automatic. It was a damn pain in the arse. I might just have to stick with having two separate guns. He thought and carefully put the void ripper down on the table, walking over to his blueprints and plans of some of his prototypes. He needed rest even though he hated it and fought against his drowzines, he still fell into a deep sleep on the desktop.

@Anyone?

(Ganymede)

Closing up the main entrance of the ship and locking it thoroughly, the red-skinned desert dweller walked drowsily downstairs to Braxtes' quarters. Although he was not much for conversation, once in a while he felt the need for social interaction and came out of his shell. He was sort of an ornery muscle-head, and he didn't suffer fools lightly, but he secretly enjoyed the close 'brotherhood' that the crew of the Valiance offered. Besides, he owed the Captain a big one for saving his ass. Knocking on the metal hydraulic door of Braxtes' quarters, he issued a "Hello?" in his almost unpleasantly rough voice.

Ur sits in his cage pondering the bars for a moment. Wondering how did they stand up to him? They were so much smaller than him, this did not make sense in his mind. But the main reason for his calm demeanor at the time was not due to his contemplations, he had grown hungry and as such as metabolism and slowed considerably is made him just feel kind of sluggish when not agitated.

Almost as if on cue the merchant pokes Ur in his side with the painful crackle stick. Or springs to his feeding grabs a hold of the bar snarling and screening, but as he grabs the bar is there electrify him lunching and came back with a howling roar. He raises and swipes his claws across the metal bar several times sparks fly to the left into the right but the bar seem otherwise unhindered. "Look alive you stupid beast no one wants to buy a calm monster".

Her sits back down growling a bit at the man.

Need food...then squash loud man.

He thinks to himself.

The last bunch of equipment was finally being dragged up the ramp outside and onto the ship.Everything was in place and Psych was well equipped. He entered the warehouse once again to turn off the lights and lock the doors. As he turned to exit, after turning off the lights,he saw a calendar next to the door.He has forgotten completely due to his work.It was his birthday.Today marked his 300th year in existence. He thought on it a bit and looked back at his life, then continued towards the ship.

His birthday had become pointless to him.Psych had no friends and nothing special to do.Mixed emotions stormed in his brain when suddenly,a feminine voice spoke.

"Psych!'Nother delivery."

He turned with unnatural speed and recognized the pink-haired girl.It was his dealer. She slowly walked towards Psych, looking as if she was expecting to get hurt.

"It was hard to find you.But here.._happy birthday Psych."

She reached behind her to open up her high tech backpack and revealed a massive shipment of drugs.

"How DID she find me?",Psych thought,"And how did she know my birthday?"

He dismissed these thoughts when he saw the size of the delivery. She must've thought of Psych greatly.Psych began to reach for his money but th dealer stopped him.

"This one's free. From me to you.I know you don't usually talk but I just wanna say that...you've inspired me.I loved you when you were a vigilante and I still do...even if you're on the other side of the law.I understand what you've been going through and I can honestly say you've given me a whole new perspective. You deserve this."

Psych took the package and gave a long, slow nod.

"Thank you",he said with a deep voice. The voice changer in his helmet made his response sound rather nightmarish, but the dealer smiled and her eyes widened.Psych hadn't said a word in years. He felt strange but also relieved. This was very odd for him, especially since the first thing he's said in years was to his dealer, but social interaction alone lifted his spirits a little.Psych put the package in his ship and turned around to see the dealer still standing there. Her eyes were still wide with excitement and surprise, but it seemed she had something else to say.

"Um...th-there's something else...um...how do I put this...I'd like to,if it's alright with you...join you."

Psych froze in place.

The Captain turned abruptly at the sound of something screaming and his attention was shifted to a large creature being tortured in a cage. Unamused at the poor treatment of the animal, he narrowed his fearsome eyes to slits and gave the man prodding the beast a deathly glare. "Excuse me, sir? What in Hell's name is that thing, and why do you deem it necessary to have it make such a racket?" There was no pity in his tone or expression, only disgust. He was getting more used to seeing this kind of thing, but this case crossed the line. His thick mane of dark hair fluffed up on end, making him look much bigger paired with his tall stature. Eyeing the beast, he wondered where it was from, and knew it was likely for sale. Keeping in mind that he still had things to do, Jupiter approached the man with plans to have this over with quickly. Perhaps, he thought, he'd kill him. Then he reconsidered. No. Too many people watching. All they'd have to do is get the tracking number off my ship and the space police would have me.
