Somehow... Dai apologizing only made Aiden more angry. It really did. Even Dai was convinced he was the perpetrator here which itself Aiden was sure only fed into the victim complex Luka demonstrated earlier. Not to say Dai did not need to apologize nor that he was guiltless. This was a different type of anger, if anything. Almost an envy. It wasn't the same type of blistering rage as before. If even Dai could accept some responsibility--even when his transgressions were far lesser--then why couldn't Luka? Did her brain just not process this as her fault? Were those few years of maturity that everyone deemed so important still so significant that they explained the difference in how these two approached this situation? Or, was it just one of the odd quirks about her?
This was not the same type of feeling that just added fuel to the fire, either. It was not a trigger like Rio. Perhaps Aiden was so angry that almost any feeling he had would be translated into more anger. Perhaps this was that envy and inflection masquerading as anger, too. It was hard to tell. What Aiden did know was that he felt much better after his explosion. For the sake of his teammate, he kept his frustrations in for so long that they become bottled up in a most unhealthy way, and releasing them relieved some of that pressure. Enough so that he could at least converse with Dai on a meaningful level that wasn't hateful or full of spite.
'Again, I thank you, Dai,' Aiden responded back. Their connection was not strong, especially with Aiden being new and on his back, but it was enough to communicate. Doubtful for much more, especially given how disruptive Aiden's emotional status likely was. 'But, you aren't the one that needs to make anything up--at least not to me. You were not there in the connection, so I don't expect you to know every detail, but what I can sense from you is a lot regret and guilt. You hate apologies, I get it, but I can feel that you mean it. That is the difference between you and Luka. Not once in her soul did I feel any guilt or regret. She didn't feel bad for what she did and then she just cut me off. Rio, too, I think. In my mind, you have done enough to make up for your actions. She hasn't even begun to make up for her reactions. She dug herself a hole--and that's not your fault.' Aiden explained, for the first time giving anyone on the team a calm insight to how he actually felt. To Dai, of all people.
Admittedly, as Aiden explained it, he realized just who he was talking to and wasn't sure how it would be received. Dai might not even care. But, that sense of guilt he felt in Dai, that might be enough to make him actually contemplate what Aiden was telling him. Dai was no therapist, but it was plain see that the brutish youth certainly did not lack empathy. He just seemed to ignore it most of the time.
Aiden considered telling Dai more. Aiden considered venting about how he may feel like he'll be alone on this hill of scrutinizing what Luka did with his belief that her reactions were far too heinous for an immediate apology to fix. The girl showed every red flag of a poor partner he had ever seen in a shorter period of time than he had ever seen, all with the worst timing imaginable. Aiden could've went on. But, he didn't. The rest of the group was finally moving forward and there was no point in going over the past. If anything, Aiden felt like he let too much slip, but his loose tongue just followed his emotional explosion, so that type of reflection wasn't something he thought of in that impulsive moment. Perhaps it came from the isolation he felt being cut off from Luka or his time just sitting there useless in the battlefield, but just being heard meant a lot to him in the moment.

It seemed following the explosion, the group actually got back on track. Cole was half-amazed. Typically, that type of outburst was far outside of his normal persona, but the stress of a mission combined with removing one of his mental barriers was enough to put him in a state where he was much less like himself--or at least the version of himself that most had become accustomed to. Regardless, it was a more than pleasant restoration of order that he was appreciative of.
The order they had established was important, although Luka seemed quick to move forward. Cole was back to theorizing. Perhaps she was doing it to get the mission over with sooner, or perhaps it was another coping mechanism. Moving forward might feel like distancing herself from the things that bothered her most. In any case, it didn't matter. Dai was back to the front, Aiden finally shut the hell up and was on his back, and all they had to do was a little recon.
While Cole did keep his guard up despite the suggestions there were no other targets, he became more personally focused on scanning their environment with his Soul Perception. Their new comrade seemed to know the area well enough and neither of his teammates were proficient with it, so this role fell to him. He kept in good memory of the soul signature of the previous honey goblin to see if there was any trace of it, but also if there was any indication of an abnormal wavelength anywhere. Cole had the logic that by the time things got to him, they had already passed by the eyes of Dai, Luka, and Briseis. His fourth set of eyes would thus be best used less on what true eyesight could see and more what his perception could pick up.
"This place is ransacked. I'm focusing on anything that my Soul Perception might find. I do believe we should find a container for the honey still, but outside of that, if we can't find a specific item left here that could indicate something of interest, what we may need to focus on is what's not here. This would be your specialty, Briseis. What of importance was held here in any room? What could go missing that is of value, even if just academically? And, once the perimeter is secure, as gruesome as it sounds, we may need to go through the personal belongings of these agents for clues and even check their corpses. Before we head out, other points of interest we may want to take a second look at are the portal site you described, what remains of the target we eliminated, and the bag it had full of bees. Lastly, if it's useful, I carry a multi-tool, so if we need to disassemble something, we at least have some screwdrivers, a file, pliers, and a small prying tool. Just something to keep in mind before we go smashing something open out of curiosity," Cole said aloud while continuing to move with the group. His tone was fairly monotonous. He was back to his thoughtful self at least verbally. Giving some insight to what they may need to look for--or look for the absence of. He hoped if anything his instructions would inspire some idea in Briseis.
