I would like to imagine your weapon's personality is the type that is masochistic and likes to piss you off by willingly throwing itself into danger only to have you punish it, which it wants. So either way, it wins out. But of course, that's not actually my intention. There is something more going on that I have yet to reveal.

I find that if you don't click on the notification from the notification button, but instead access the update via different means (bookmarks, page refresh etc.) It messes up and fails to notify you of any further updates; until you go back and click on the last notification, or make a new post in the affected thread.
If that makes sense. Either way, i tend to use the "threads with your posts" forum function to check all my pending stuff!
