RWBY: Old Rites (In Character)

With the offered hand Alani accepted it with a smile, her grip firm as Grey offered the friendly handshake. "A pleasure to meet you Grey." Her tone was friendly enough as Alani shrugged her rucksack from her shoulder and set it down next to where Grey had been seated. "I'm rather curious as to what you're reading, what book is it?" The redhead inquired as she got comfortable, looking at the cover of the book Grey had been reading inquisitively and spotting the title being some sort of music. "Are you a musician or something? Planning on lulling grim to sleep in the field?" Her question was quickly followed from her last as her interest was further piqued, a bit of innocent humor slipped in as well with a soft chuckle.\

"Rrrrrrrrrrrreally huh?" Rendure said, rolling out the rs. "Cool name Aaaaadrian and Niel Cyclamen. Rendure Rouge, I like to think of myself as a walking armory, but then I'd be spoiling stuff before the glorified fatal show and tell starts on the morrow." He said. Then another woman came and she was all shiny as heck. And she had horns. He was also willing to be that she freaking sparkled in the daylight. "Well nice to meet you too Cervus, I'm Sir Rendure, you're looking very shiny and that's neato burrito." He said before scooting over to Adrian's side. "So, watcha reading friendo?" He asked before plucking out one of the books she was offering called 'Ninjas of Love' and plopped down onto the floor and held the book up to read. "I can't read." He said seriously after a few moments. He could read, he just wanted to joke arround.

".... You can't read...?" Adrian quietly repeated under her breath. Her face showed a look of concern as she stared at Redure. She quickly sindled close until she was literally pressing herself onto Rendure's shoulder before she pointed at the first sentence.

"I guess we can start with something simple... Can you read this line? Just repeat after me. 'As Kasumi stared deep into Hayate's amber eyes, she felt her heart racing with excitement. Her (censored to comply with RPNation guidlines) as his (more censorship). Oh my.' Now you try, Sir Rendure." Adrian simple kept a straight, slightly stony expression as she read that line out. Not even caring for the fact that Neil and Cervus were present.

Rendure silently struggled to not laugh and maintained a straight face.He repeated what she said, struggling and pausing every random time as he did so. In his mind, his other selves broke down laughing and rolling in the grass. Finally he let out a small chuckle. "Oh relax would you, If I couldn't read then I wouldn't have been able to get in in the first place. That'd be like coming her with zilch in combat skills and just lucking along." He said before going back to the book and actually started to read himself to sleep. 'Yep, For henceforth she will be known as the lady who gives free explicit material.' His red otherself said as she read along with him.

Adrian quietly watched as Niel introduced himself to a rather perculiar looking Faunus. Or at least she thinks Seraphina is a Faunus. Either way, Adrian could symphatise with Seraphina's reaction. She felt a sharp pang in her chest when she saw Seraphina flinch in response to an offered handshake.

Poor girl... Was all that she could think about Seraphina. Adrian shifted to the left. "Um... If it doesn' trouble you Miss Cervus but you can have a seat next to me if you want. I... understand how it feels like to be... uncomfortable with interacting with people." Adrian offered a place next to her spot, trying her best to remember the steps in making friends.

"If you want, I have a few extra books... Maybe... you would like to read...?" Adrian nervously offered, digging around her pack to pull out a few books. One is an old novel called 'Mystery of the Wandering Hunter', the other was another reference book called 'Aura Theory' and the last is everyone's favorite romance novel 'Ninjas of Love'.

"Ah. I even have a book for Mr Neil and Sir Rendure... Well... At least until someone else decides to join us.... Maybe we could share if that happens...?"

Seraphina was going to sit down until she reminded herself of her horns. She shook her head before saying, "If I look forward to read, my horns might gore someone. I do not want anyone hurt on my watch, that would be too cruel. Plus if I sit down, They would be right at your throat..." Due to a very dangerous habit, she grasped one of the jewels on her throat. She ripped a gem straight out of her neck, lifting up an orange sparkling gem. The wound in her neck was bleeding softly, though not enough to come out of the indent. She licked the blood off the gem, then rubbed it against her horn to dry it off. She offered the piece of jewelry to Adrian. She didn't even flinch, so her issue wasn't in the pain itself. She was more afraid of other people not liking her or abandoning her. She said, "The gem is quite heavy... but I can already handle enough as it is without it...."

She rapidly did the calculations in her head to make sure her outcome was the same. Assuming the crystal in her body being of higher density and much higher tensile strength than bone can keep each bone at a femur's maximum amount of weight sustained, at 2,500 pounds, and multiplying it by the excess weight of her armor, it should mean that her armor is capable of handling such force. So in total, she should be able to handle 12 tons in dire and peak circumstances. But the monsters out there are much stronger than that she was afraid. If all she needed was durability and lifting up bears all day, she would have saved the kingdom as a child! Plus, that was assuming her foes didn't hit her cleavage planes. Not even her dad was THAT cruel.

Koamaru had excused himself from Zion, Ignacia, and company some time ago. Ignacia seemed to have the right idea about sleeping. The day to come would surely be one to remember from what he heard. They were to be tested immediately in the morning. It was more of a complicated sorting hat than an exam, but whatever one wanted to call it would be a challenge. There would no doubt be a way for the queen to watch as well. What was her same? Yan? Something like that. He would have to follow up on it later to see who knew what about her.

Koamaru stopped on a dime to see a woman rip a crystal from her own neck. Assuming that the crystal was from a necklace, it wouldn't have been a big deal. The fact that there was some blood on the gem might not have been too frightening. The fact that she licked the blood off was a bit disturbing. The part that really ate at his mind was the sight of the wound left behind. For whatever reason, the crystal was part of her.

Koamaru looked down slowly to Gaucho who, at least in canine terms, wore a similarly baffled and horrified expression to his own. The woman was only a few feet away from them and he didn't want to make a rude scene, but he desperately wanted to be in any direction opposite of what he had just seen. At a loss for a decent idea, Koamaru simply held up both hands level with his head, spun around on his heel, and walk away at a double pace. Gaucho followed close behind, efficiently washing both their hands of the situation.

((Time skip incoming. Try to come to a decent stopping point.))

Ryuuko nodded knowingly and went to the subject of her own weapons. “I use Kinu and Kōtetsu.” She held up her dagger-fan and dagger-gun, smiling sheepishly. “Now, a dagger-gun would not be strange, but a dagger-fan? It is a bit…peculiar, even to me, though I was the one who had come up with the concept.” Looking at Kinu, she lifted it up higher. The fan was, although mostly made of metal, rather light. Kinu had a bizarre, barely noticeable mechanism that would allow it to be coated with Dust, though Ryuuko much preferred using ice Dust over the other kinds that existed. “I assure you that I can use this weapon effectively, despite its appearance. I was supposed to wield my...family’s naginata, however it was…” Ryuuko had broken it unintentionally during her training. “…lost due to a rather unfortunate incident. This is the reason why I had to learn to fight in combat with a different weapon type.”

Joshua quietly observed as everyone got to know each other with new arrivals such as Izzy, Koamaru, and Zion. Joshua had been lying down on his back on the mattress without a shirt on when Izzy had approached. So he simply took his right hand from behind his head and waved, "Good to meet you Izzy, name's Joshua Ebonmire."

Izzy gave him a smile, tilting her head to the side slightly, trying to remember her name, ignoring the fact that Joshua was currently shirtless.  "Good to meet you aswell, Joshua!  Going to have to try and remember that name now," she said with a smile, beginning to mutter "Joshua Ebonmire, Joshua Ebonmire, Joshua Ebonmire..." quietly under her breath, attempting to memorize it.  "Right, now, sorry to cut things a bit short, but I am quite tired and I wanna sleep!  Hopefully we can talk later?"  she asked with a smile. before, regardless of his answer, she turned to leave.

"But of course!" Joshua spoke, "I'm also kind of tired myself, who knows what we'll end up doing tomorrow so I guess we should get some rest huh?" Although Joshua was trying to be polite, he felt the pull of sleep from behind his eyes as he began to yawn causing him to place a hand over his mouth in an attempt to stifle it. Joshua then leaned back on the mattress and placed his hands behind his head while he hypothesized what was going to happen tomorrow. Sure enough, there would be something that they would be doing, but what in specific terms would they encounter?"

"Oh, my book?" he said, "It's just music theory. I've been needing to read it for some time." he did laugh a bit when she mentioned lulling to sleep. "Yeah I'm a musician, and no I'm not going to 'lull' them to sleep. If you're familiar with Flynt Coal, my weapon functions similar to that, along with some added perks" He smirked as he said the last two words, patting his guitar case.

"Flynt Coal, yeah I've heard of the guy. Likely would have gone to Atlas Academy with him if I hadn't moved here with my mother. Wonder if he's still got a chip on his shoulder at the Schnee corporation." Alani remarked as she looked back at Grey's book. "Music theory? Huh, sounds pretty 'sciencey' from the title; all about sound waves and pitch or something?" The redhead asked, peeking at the pages of the book slightly and immediately finding herself lost in the ranging text within. Shifting slightly, Alani looked over at the guitar case with a blink of interest. "Neat, could I bug you to play a bit sometime in the future? Never managed to get very good at the art myself" Alani asked, having had an interest in the musical arts, but having the patience of a rabid grim when it came to trying to learn how to properly play and learn an instrument she rarely got very far in her efforts.

Varien, upon seeing that it was getting late, decided to move from his spot outside to indoors. They were supposed to gather in the ballroom for the night, so that's what he would do. Upon arrival in the room, he looked around at the mass of students silently. There were too many conversations to keep track of, but he did notice that the room filled with teenagers seemed to have no boundaries regarding gender. Choosing to ignore this factor, he made his way to the window with the least people surrounding it and took a seat on the, surprisingly wide, windowsill. The sunlight was fading fast, but his helmet would assist him in his readings. After all, he did promise himself to finish the book tonight. Speaking of which, he removed the leather book from within his coat before opening it to the last page he was on. Soon things would be winding down, and tomorrow would come the time for their initiation.

Neil tilted his head when the Faunus girl cowered. What? He wasn't scary! ...Was he? Sure, he woke up on the wrong side of the bed here and there, but that's only because he...sometimes fell of the side of the bed in the morning. He awkwardly had his hand out as she inspected it, as if he taped a bomb to one of his fingers. Why were there so many weird girls here? I mean, sure, weird was good, but this girl seemed like the...bad type of weird. He could only frown at her response to this...HIM?! Hit her?! Not only was that a big no-no in the rules of the Cyclamen charm, but...he looked up at her sharp horns and took note of the size difference between them. "Trust me, Cervus. I'm not that kind of guy. And even if I wanted to, I can tell that'd be a HUGE mistake on my part." Neil chuckled. He was many things: Weird, Dumb, and a bit on the slow side...but he was NOT an idiot...much. He shook his hand. "Come on! It's just a friendly handshake...between friends...which is what we are...if you want." He watched as she slowly shook his hand, shivering a bit at her cold touch, yet grinning all the same. "Yeah! See?! Nothin' scary about it!"

After that, he smiled a bit at Adrian's attempt at friendship...until it was gone when she called him Mr.Neil...his eye twitched as he slowly grabbed Aura theory from her hands. "Thanks...Uh-Uhm...can we...not do that Mr.Neil name? Kinda...brings back stuff." He said slowly, shuddering and shaking his head. Trying to take his mind off of what just happened, he put all of his focus on Cervus's response. Wow. This girl was-HOLY CRAP! Neil's eyes widened and he backed up a bit when she literally ripped a sparkly gem from her throat...okay...this was new. No! Bad Neil! She's already shy enough! Don't eye her up like that...even if she did basically rip of a piece of jewelry from her neck. "Whoa! So cool!" Neil cried as he stepped up and poked the gem a bit. It kinda actually was cool. This thing could be worth a fortune! Think of all the PINK he could buy with this! "Man, ya sure are interesting!"

He snickered at Rendure's joke, yet he couldn't help but laugh aloud when Adrian began to read a line to him. This was priceless! Man, Beacon sure was gonna be awesome!

"Would all students please make their way to the Beacon cliffs for initiation? Again, would all first year report to Beacon Cliffs immediately." The unmistakable tone of Glynda Goodwitch sounded from Beacon's intercom system. While most students were already awake and preparing, some were rudely awakened by the announcement. With a groan and a mad scramble to get ready for the day, the newest students of Beacon went about their own ways of preparation whether mental or physical.

Soon, students gathered on their markers at the edge of the cliff. Ozpin and Glynda waited in front as the last few trickled in to take their places. The sun had already risen for the morning, but it was still early in the day. Stories of these initiations varied from taking just a few hours to lasting a day or more. The early start probably had something to do with that fact.

As the final student stepped to their metal plate, Ozpin explained the day's events as he had several times before.

"Welcome, students. We'll begin your first exam in just a moment." He spoke with perfect clarity and calm, as usual. His head turned slowly, observing each student's face. "Now, I must warn you to be careful. While I realize that you're all very capable of handling yourselves, you will be facing constant danger until the exam ends. All you will have to rely in is yourself and your partner once you find them."

Ozpin began a slow pacing step, starting right and then eventually making his way left in front of the students. His cane tapped the ground methodically and appeared almost as straight as his own posture. "Making eye contact with another student is a binding contract. Look out for each other and work together to bring back your relic. Do keep in mind the Lady Haiqin Yan will be watching carefully as well."

As soon as Ozpin finished his sentence, the platforms under the students flew forward on a hinge, launching the students standing on them into the air over the Emerald Forest.

And so started a new year at beacon and the journey of its newest class.

((Time skip engaged. Will write my own characters post out in a moment.))

"From what I heard, he still does. Wouldn't blame him though." He said, shrugging. "And no, music theory doesn't have to do with sound's scientific explanations. Rather, it gives definition and purpose to notes, chords, and the like." He smiled whenever she asked him to play. "Sure, why not" he replied as he reached for his case.

--After Timeskip--

"Woooohoooo!!!" he yelled as he was launched through the air and above the massive forest. He spied the ruins and did his best to remember the location. As he descended, he got out his guitar weapon and changed it to weapon mode. He struck a chord and reamed on the tremolo bar, causing soundwaves to push against the ground and slow his descent before landing on a sizeable tree branch. He dropped to the forest floor and jogged towards where he remembered the ruins to have been. "aahh, nothing like a little bonding with nature." he said to no one in particular.

Pewter recovered quickly as he soared over the forest, he was used to flying through the air thanks to how often he flung himself around in training using Claw. Feeling himself losing momentum from the drag he was producing he looked around for a nice place to land soon spotting a rather nice sized tree he swung his right arm towards it causing Claw to shoot out its wires and wrap around a branch and swinging himself around the tree multiple times before his feet made contact with the hard wood. From his perch on the side of the tree he looked around in the sky for anyone who might be landing nearby before rappelling down the side of the tree and allowing the wires to retract back into the gauntlet on his right arm, and adjusting his arm brace on his left arm to be looser. Drawing Fang from its sheathe he let out a sigh as he started making his way towards his destination "Well I guess it is time to find a partner"

Ignacia stood upon the plate in complete and utter excitement. Her fists already emitting small flames from her knuckles. This was the first time in a while where she was actually thrilled to do an exam, partly because it was a physical exam. Waiting eagerly for Ozpin to finish his speech, she threw some short jabs in the air. "C'mon, c'mon, 'urry up here. I'm practically pissin' myself." She mumbled under her breath. When Ozpin completed his boring lecture to them. She saw that the plates they were standing on were in fact launch pads. When the first few students were shot up into the air she gasped in amazement. Practically spinning in her spot, she was incredibly eager to actually do something cool.

After a few more students were flung into the air, it was finally her turn. As soon as the launch pad shot her up, she activated her semblance. Like jets, she used her flames like rockets propelling herself as far as possible. Her blue flames quickly petering out behind her she was quickly approaching the emerald forest infront of her. She was twitching with joy as she plummeted through the air. "Kehehe." she started to giggle. However the giggling soon turned to complete laughter. As soon as she was at tree level she put both her hands infront of her. Putting all of her energy into the palms of her hands, she was capable of making a sizeable cone of fire beneath her about the size of a beowulf. The blue inferno engulfed her, as she dropped into the center of it. The ground crackled and turned to sand in the blink on an eye, allowing for her to cushion her landing.

Laughing as she got up from the impact, the fire dispersed, bits of flames still lingering around her body. The heat and light released attracted a large ursa to her location.

She covered her mouth, reducing her laughter to giggling once again, "Tch, kehehe, norm'lly I spread good cheer where'er I go, but I got som'thing else for yeh." She snapped her fingers igniting her right fist with fire.

While sure her first slumber at beacon wasn't the most comfortable with the rest of the first years sleeping together in a large group, but it certainly wasn't the worst accommodations. Alani's sleep was relatively enjoyable, the faunus rising at a somewhat early hour thankfully before the majority of the other first years, quickly heading to her locker she'd been assigned to get the rest of her gear which had been stored for her when she arrived. Slipping on her gauntlets Alani took a soft breath. "Well, here we go Alani, don't screw up now." She said softly to herself as she slipped on her jacket, forgoing zipping it up as she tucked her scroll into her pants pocket and headed out to the first in hopefully a very successful road toward becoming a huntress.

The outdoors filled Alani with a calming vigor with the scent of the trees on the wind calming her nerves somewhat as she took her position on the small cube shaped metallic plate before her, looking around at the others who did likewise on either side of her. Ozpin's words were calm as always, but their weight wasn't lost as Alani gave a soft nod, quickly going over what she was to do once she was thrown into the frey, somewhat literally. The rehead's prepared herself for the inevitable jump into things, looking down the line of students to her left at their own expressions before one by one being launched into the air. "Oooh this is gonna roOOOOOOCK-HELL YEAH, HAHAHAAA!" The faunus let out an exhilarated cheer at the sudden acceleration into the air, the rush of the wind about her sending a thrill through her body with a jolt of adrenaline. Quickly looking at the surroundings beneath her Alani spied what had to be the ruins as there weren't any other 'ruinesque' constructs around she could see before preparing for the descent. Her gauntlets quickly expanding from their collapsed forms to envelop her hands, the clear 'SHING' of their metallic claws within each ringing out, Alani quickly descended into a large tree where she pierced the rough bark with her clawed gauntlets to decelerate appropriately. Coming to a landing with a soft grunt, the faunus's ears perked up as she heard a resounding guitar chord. "Well I hope the grim didn't hear that too much." She said softly, running off in the direction she spotted the ruins.

Joshua had slept considerably well the previous night despite sleeping in a communal room with lots of other people. Luckily, Joshua had a habit of waking up before his alarm would go off, more often it was 10 minutes or less before. So, he got himself ready to go when all of a sudden, Glynda's voice echoed from the intercom. Chuckling to himself at those who were unprepared for the announcement, he made his way over to the Emerald Cliffs.

Once at the cliffs, Joshua listened intently as Ozpin explained their first test, apparently it was a survival test with, partners? As Ozpin finished his explanation, he wondered how they were going to get into the forest when all of a sudden he heard a ticking noise causing him to look down, "Oh F-" Joshua's vulgar word was cut off by the pleasant "whoosh" of the wind as he was launched into the air.

"Crap," he thought, as he soared through the air. He only had a few moments before the momentum was overrun by gravity and he would soon begin to fall. However, there was a way he could brace himself, as working against gravity would be foolish, but with it on the other hand, it was crazy enough that he was willing to try it. Activating his semblance, Joshua conjured a shield in front of him as he began his descent, it was not going to be pretty for the trees in his way. He barreled through a few trees before coming to a complete halt and taking in his surroundings, "I guess I'm not green around the gills in this case huh?" Joshua then began to calmly walk keeping his guard up while deactivating his semblance.

Kaden Arkfel soared through the air, a bored expression painted on his face. One hand clutching the sheathe that held his sword. The other he pulled from his pocket to stiffle a yawn. As he started to descend, he wondered what kind of dangers were waiting for him in the forest. He'd headed from hunters and huntresses who'd passed the exams that the Emerald Forest was one hell of a test. He had to admit, this Forest sounded like fun.

Out of thin air, a slab of black crystal appeared under Kaden as a slope once he got closer to the ground. It was smooth and solid, allowing the young man to slide upon landing. Once on solid ground, the crystal shattered into small particals. No point in keeping it around. It would unnecessarily burn his energy.

Kaden put his free hand in his pocket again as he looked around. Quiet. No one was around as Far as he could tell. Good. Ozpin had mentioned a partners. Yeah, like Kaden would team up with anyone. They all seemed like such a bore to him. That was why he hadn't interacted with anyone at all since he'd gotten on that airship to Beacon.

Letting a yawn escape from his mouth, he moved in a random direction. What kind of trouble would he get into today he wondered. The thought made him smile to himself a bit.

Calm and poised, Ryuuko nodded at Ozpin’s words. “Good luck, everyone.” A polite smile appeared on her face and she was launched afterwards.

She took a deep breath in the air, amazed at the view below, before her expression changed to one of intense focus. First things first, she had to land. Ryuuko activated her semblance and stepped on its koi-shaped ice as if they were rocks in a river, making her descent closer to the ground. The footing wasn’t steady, though Ryuuko continued to jump down on each one and—

Her step missed. Ryuuko took another deep breath. Adjusting herself, she rolled onto the ground and opened her fan, though her heart was racing from the mistake. Observing her surroundings, her smile slowly returned back to her face. It took forever for her to get to Beacon and here she was, so she had to do her best from now on. Mistakes were not tolerable in any way. With that settled in her mind, Ryuuko began her search for the relics.

Of course the noise he created when landing attracted a few grimm, but nothing really big. At least, until he got into an open area and he was surrounded by a sizeable grimm creatures. Using the soundwave to hopefully stun some of them, Grey went to work on fighting them. "Now that I think about it, making a massive amount of noise when I landed wasn't the best idea." he said to himself.

( @Nooguy she can come in here if you want.)

Joshua began his search for the relics and an eventual partner to complete this task with, however, this opened up questions in his mind. Who would be his partner and would they succeed? Also with the queen watching, would he make a good enough impression on her? All of these thoughts swirled around in the nebulous space that was Joshua's mind as he suddenly entered a nearby clearing with a central tree in the center.

@Danchou Tsubomi

Hardly a few minutes into the exam and Alani already heard the sounds of battle, and from what she was hearing it was someone familiar. Running through a dense wall of bushes the faunus found indeed Grey surrounded by a number of grimm, all sizable beowulfs which snarled and growled, but largely kept their distance from the blasting soundwaves from Grey's guitar. "Wow, that's way cooler than Flynt I'll admit." She quipped before crouching down, her eye glowing a vibrant orange as two wolves burst into existence on either side of her one a deep black and the other a bright white. "Lupa, Fenris attack the grimm!" Her voice was a firm command, the two spirit-like wolves growling softly in affirmation before bounding off at the beowulf before them. Alani swiftly joined the fray as well, jumping into the air to deliver a cleaving attack at one beowulf, cleaving it in two as it dissipated in a mist of dark dust. "Well well, fancy meeting you here Grey, enjoying a nice walk in nature too?" The faunus called out amidst the sounds of battle as she dodged and slashed through another grimm.

Varien stood on his platform in silence, his revolvers holstered on his hips. So, they were to find relics in a Grimm infested forest? Then that is what he would do. Feeling the platform click under him, he was well prepared when he was launched high into the sky. At the peak of his ascent, wings of fire sprouted out from his back as he hovered in the air. He quickly observed the area before him for any sort of clues as to where the relics would be located. Seeing none, he released his hold on the flames and allowed himself to glide downwards gently into the trees. He landed upon the ground softly before drawing The Last Word and walking off into the forest in search of these relics.
