RWBY: Old Rites (In Character)

Varien let out a small laugh at her words. "Yea, they do. I've done something like that already to be honest. Bodyguarding pays well, especially when you look like a professional." He let out a sigh before draining a bit more of the flask's contents down his throat. All he would need to do was keep reporters off campus? Seemed easy enough considering his job history. It was hardly three years ago when he started taking bodyguard jobs and about two years since he started playing the part time role of vigilante. Since about seven months ago however, he began to focus completely on his training in preparation for Beacon. "So yea, I think the Guest's of Honor task works well."

((btw Wandering and I are not on the balcony))

Joshua had watched as Ryuu went to go find Varien who was enjoying some privacy from the group. Needless to say, Joshua wasn't about to break that as he waited for her to find Varien. Hearing muffled voices from outside the room, he went outside into the common room to find the balcony door ajar and both Ryuu's and Varien's voices could be heard emanating from said location. The last time here was in the common room, the balcony door was shut and the blinds were drawn causing him to wonder if someone was there or not. Having now heard their voices, the illusion was shattered. Apparently Varien also had no preference in choosing a mission, but the group seemed to gravitate towards the "Guests of Honor" mission. Walking over to the door, Joshua knocked and spoke, "Mind if I come in?"

Varien nodded to himself for a moment. "Trust will bind us..." He muttered to himself before downing the last of the flask's contents. Sealing off its top, he set it on the table. "Yea, come on out here." He said, inviting the other male member of their team outside. He didn't know him either, but trust would need to go a long way if they were to be on a team. Hopefully his reaction to his face wasn't negative either. He would have to see his partner's reaction as well. He would imagine that they all would have questions, but he would answer them later.

@Danchou Tsubomi @Wandering Hollow @Clockwork Syringe

    “That experience of yours will make accomplishing the mission easier. Reporters can bit a bit…tenacious at times, with their constant questions. Most of which have some sort of malicious intent…” Especially the ones who visited places just to stir up false controversies. Those ones were the worst. It negatively affected business and soured names, even if it was mostly temporary. Some of the more intense ones would ask all sorts of screwed up questions, like ‘is Mr. Shirogane still beating his dog?’ …They didn’t even own a dog, so the source of said rumor was very incorrect. Of course, there were ways to make them go away, though these reporters were just complete and utter—

    “Ah, Joshua, we were discussing which mission to choose. I am not sure how much you have heard, but it seems like Guests of Honor is the one we shall do. If there are no objections to this, I suppose we should start making our way to Glynda’s office and accept it formally.”

Joshua entered the balcony and saw Ryuu talking to an unmasked Varien, however, not the Varien he was expecting to see. His skin was burned and scared and his hair might have once been more colorful, but the white plumage that sat upon his head suggested that this was the result of something. "I can't say I'm surprised a little Varien, but it will heal in time so you won't need to worry about it. Kind of makes you tougher in my honest opinion." Joshua turned his head to Ryuu and spoke, "Well I heard that whole bit about the reporters, and trust me the experience is mutual. Reporters try to take pictures and get anything they can, but they don't anymore when they trespass. Folks like to forget that unless you're invited onto the property, you're breaking the law, especially when they've expressed requests for privacy. I had one snooping around before I came here and you know what I did? I picked him up by the collar of his shirt, crushed his camera and said, "Don't let me catch you around here again" before dropping him on his feet. We've never had an issue with uninvited reporters ever since."

Varien grunted at Joshua's words. "Skin won't heal, I've been like this for a long time. Also, don't try using what you did on these guys. These one might be from a richer group, meaning more legal power to use against us for breaking their equipment." He explained before standing up, several bones popping as he stretched. He had a nice rest, but now it was time to get back to work. They needed to reserve the mission before someone else did. Varien slid on his gloves, securing them tightly, before putting the helmet over his head. He waited as the helmet sealed itself. "BIOLOCK ENGAGED." Said a female voice from his helmet, signaling that it was sealed and locked. "Alright, after you two."

     “I suppose that is one way to deal with them,” Ryuuko said, suppressing a laugh.  “Do not worry, for I know many methods of making sure these reporters will remain from entering Beacon’s campus. Let us make our way to the office and began the mission swiftly.” Preparing to leave, she motioned Adrian to follow behind. Hopefully this mission would not turn out to be a tedious one. If it was, however, at least she was doing the school a favor. She had a plan in mind for what exactly to say to them and this usually worked, so unless they didn’t care about getting in any trouble, they would leave the area immediately. What would she do then? Perhaps she would just have to learn to adapt, though all sorts of ideas ran through her mind. It felt like Ryuuko was missing something important but she decided it must have been nothing and she was simply over-thinking things as usual.

                When they had arrived at Glynda’s office, Ryuuko knocked at the door. “Ms. Goodwitch, we would like to accept this mission of yours. Is the one dealing with reporters still available, ma'am?”

Adrian Cuthbertson

"Oh...." Adrian simply said as she peeked in through the balcony door. Having seen everyone go there, she simply followed Joshua and stayed by the door. She didn't expect to see what she saw. Burns. Varien's face was mostly burns and she started wondering about how he got so burnt as her team discussed about how they would deal with any snooping reporters.

"E-ehem..." Adrian nervously cleared her throat before making her presence known. She nervously shuffled over towards Varien, avoiding any potential eye contact. Kinda hard due to the fact that his helmet was back on. She was about to say something but decided not to.

"I-if you wondering about how we can stop reporters... We could always ask nicely...." Adrian suggested, thinking back about Argent's semblance. Then she remembered that it wasn't going to be so easy. "Or maybe we could expose the film...? Maybe confiscate the cameras...? My other self might like that method..."

Elizabeth "Izzy" Turquoise

For a few hours, Izzy had been in the cafeteria, asleep there instead of in the medical wing where most of the others were.  For now, she was awake and relaxing, legs up on the the table as she took the last few sips from her final FIZZY brand energy drink, setting the empty aluminum can down next to several other empty cans.  She often had issues waking up early in the morning, and staying awake through the day, hence the raw amount of energy drinks she consumed a day.  Perhaps it wasn't the healthiest thing, but she didn't have much to worry about there, as her life as a hunter required the energy anyhow.  Izzy let out a happy sigh, feeling relieved no one died in that odd attack earlier.

However, just as she began to think of re attack, she noticed her teammates enter the cafeteria from where she sat near the corner.  Grinning, she stood up and walked over.  "Hello!  Name's Izzy and I'm gonna be your team mate!"  She exclaimed, looking over Grey and Alani, thinking for a few moments, briefly holding out her metal right hand for a shake, before the flicker of a frown crossed her face and she pulled it back, holding out the left hand instead.  "I wanna talk weapons.  What kinda weapons do you guys have?  I myself have my Lancei Triplexi, a combination  of Lance and Longbow.  I made it myself a few years back!  Works like a charm and incinerates just about anything I shoot with it!" She bragged, a bright smile upon her face.  She evidently took a lot of pride in her weapon, and it made sense, considering all the effort she had put into creating the weapon, after all.

"Actually Fenris and Lupa are only one aspect of my semblance, I've got a whole other means of utilizing it." The faunus remarked as she dumped her own trash along with Grey, giving a soft nod to his mention of them finding their fourth and final teammate, and it seemed they would be the ones to be found instead. Looking over at the rather bubbly sounding greeting, Alani turned to see a blue haired girl smiling and offering out a hand in greeting. Extending her own hand to accept the offered greeting Alani faltered as the girl switched hands, smoothly transitioning to shake her hand.  "Hey Izzy it's a pleasure to meet ya. I'm Alani and this is Grey." 'Alani remarked, introducing herself and her teammate to the girl before them, blinking a bit in surprise as Izzy suddenly delved into an eager questioning about the duo's weaponry. Sheesh, guess this girl likes weapons.' She thought to herself, giving a soft smile in return. "Sounds like an impressive piece of gear. I myself wield a pair of bladed armored gauntlets named Fenris and Lupa, they're pretty focused on close to medium ranges. The blades can retract and convert my gauntlets into a pair of chemical throwers utilizing dust ammunition. I can also augment my gauntlets when their blades are extended with whatever dust I have loaded into my gauntlets which is generally electrical or fire." Alani spieled off her own description of her weapons rather casually.

"Ooooh, I can't wait to see that. Also, clever names for the wolves." He said when alani explained there was more to her semblance than just lupa & fenris. As they were about to head out to find the final member of their team, they were confronted by a blue haired lass with a mechanical arm, which no doubt intrigued him some. She had introduced herself as Izzy, their final teammate. "Well that's pretty convenient." He thought to himself. Immediately after introducing herself, she wanted to talk weapons and spoke of her 'lancei triplexi' which was no doubt an incredible piece of technician-ship. Alani them went next in explaining how her claws work, which was also pretty interesting to hear. "My weapon is basically a pun. It's a guitar that draws my semblance, which also happens to be an axe. It has a passive and active mode: passive meaning it just amplifies my semblance abilities, and active where it both amplifies and makes my attacks and defenses element-based depending on the dust loaded into the pickups."

Varien nodded. "That's what I was thinking as well. However, I would wager that most camera's are digital now. We could take the storage chip though." He suggested as the group stood in front of Goodwitch's office. He placed a hand on Adrian's shoulder gently. "Also, I will answer any questions that you may have when we return. I imagine you all may have a few." The armored man said as they stood. Would the woman even still be here?

@Danchou Tsubomi @Wandering Hollow @Clockwork Syringe @Hamilton

"True enough Varien, If they have the guts to trespass in this instance they'd have some serious legal backup. And crushing the camera was more of sending a message." Joshua walked with Ryuu, Varien, and Adrian until they were in front of Glynda Goodrich's office. "Yeah, taking the chip is a better idea, they'd still get to keep their camera, but their chip would be confiscated."

In ten years time. Mocha raised her head from the table. Her forehead a little red for the weight. Her relationship with the military basically set her future in stone. Operating as a soldier or officer in whatever plans Atlas has set ahead. However, that isn't much different from what she was doing currently. Following higher-up's commands until she either dies, retires, or becomes one of them herself.

"I predict nothing much is going to change. Just the same old same old for me."

The rest of her team's situations were so free spirited, but that wasn't for her. Mocha needed to be bossed around, else she'd be a lazy potato doing nothing with her life.

The answers Lyrika received were rather typical. It was certainly nothing she didn't expect to hear. Pewter had a weird look on his face for a moment, but Lyrika wasn't sure what to make of it. Chances were it wasn't appropriate for her to go picking at people's personal problems, even if they were to be part of team. She wasn't sure it was anything big anyway.

"Well, I for one-" Before she could finish, her scroll went off. Taking a look, Lyrika saw it was a newsletter. She skimmed over the parts about the Queen and the ball. It was weird that she had such interest in them, but it was the last thing on Lyrika's mind now. Her attention was more closely drawn to the list of missions presented in the letter. It seemed they were being set up for their first official mission. Lyrika had to wonder why they were being rushed towards active duty so quickly after a big incident, but at the same time, she was eager to find out what they were in store for.

"So!" She began, assuming that everyone had at least glimpsed at the newsletter themselves. "Anybody have an inkling as to which of these missions they want to do?" Lyrika was still looking more closely at the missions, but she was still listening to hear what the others had to say. She could see herself having fun with any of these missions, even the ones that sounded like they probably wouldn't excite the others.

Haemon pulled out his scroll and quickly read through the missons. He shrugged upon closing it. "Eh, don't really have a preference. I'll let you three decide. Let's just, uh, try not to pick one of the more violent ones involving people, yea?" He asked them. For him, violence normally led to someone being seriously hurt or otherwise. He would much rather not risk a trance either.

Pewter quickly read over the various missions "I am leaning more towards Housekeeping and the lost relic one. And I would rather not do the interview or the Light's Sky ball one" Housekeeping could provide plenty of training fighting grim, and the relic might be interesting to hunt down. But he would rather not have to plan a dance or tell reporters his story, telling people about his past and motivations were more stress than they were worth.

As Grey covered his own weapon and how he utilizes it, Alani pulled out her scroll from her uniform jacket's inner pocket as she looked over the most recent update of the Beacon Newsletter and flipped through it reading what was there to read. The immediate information wasn't of much interest, but a slight knot formed in Alani's stomach as she read of the Light Sky Ball and what it entailed. The redhead unknowingly gave a soft whimper as she read the article as she wasn't much of a dancer, or of general closeness to another, and the thought of having to find someone...a date caused a lump to form in her throat. Shaking her head Alani scrolled further down to other matters, happily delving into the other subjects held within the newsletter. "H-Hey you two, there's some missions that we can undertake and a few seem interesting, we should definitely look over these. Helping find an artifact with professor Oobleck, dealing with some troublemakers around town, and even dealing with the grim populace in the Emerald Forest. Anything seem interesting?" She inquired, looking to Grey and Izzy for their input.

"Hmm...well considering what happened the last time we tried to retrieve a relic/artifact didn't go so well, I think it might be better to deal with the grimm in emerald forest. Plus, we can go all out on them if we want." Grey said, smirking with that last sentence. "I'm kinda curious see Izzy's weapon in action as well. Because not gonna lie, it looks pretty fuckin' dope." He had been eyeing said weapon quite a bit since the aqua-haired girl walked up to them. Oh how he would like to figure out how she had been able to make it into a longbow like she said without worrying about tension issues, as well as various other problem that could happen with the making of a weapon like that.
