RWBY: Old Rites (In Character)

It wasn't until Alani was halfway through her second portion of cooked beef that she paused, fork in her mouth mid bite, at Grey's remark. Once again a blush crossed her cheeks, albeit lighter than earlier. Chewing and swallowing the faunus cleared her throat with a slight smile, that faint blush holding on her cheeks. It was rather obvious she'd never really had to deal with eating among others, her table manners leaving something to desire from the gusto at which she ate. "Y-Yeah, terrible, I'd hate for the other students to have to suffer this slop." She quipped, recovering moderately well before popping another bite of beef into her mouth. "Sorry, I guess I didn't realize how much of a toll that fight yesterday took on me. Never had to use my semblance so intensely before." Alani remarked as she finished off her second plate and moved onto a small sundae. "Been a while since I've gotten this hungry from semblance strain." She added as she enjoyed her sweet confection. "Speaking of semblances that weird barrier thing, that a part of your semblance I'm guessing? How else can you use that? Kinda neat if I say so myself." Alani inquired in a friendly tone, her curiosity to exactly how Grey utilized his semblance rising as she munched on her dessert. Grey seemed okay, though compared to the only other teammate she'd met up with it wasn't like he had that big of a challenge to surpass on avoiding her ire.

he laughed a bit at her quip, though raised an eyebrow when she apologized. "Ya don't have to apologize for it, it's completely understandable that that high a use of semblance would require that much sustenance." he said as he finished off his sandwich. She had then asked him about the 'barrier thing' from earlier. "You mean the white noise I generated between the two of you? Yeah, it's part of my semblance. Acoustic control is what it is, meaning I can control sound to my will. It can be used for a manner of things, like what my guitar does, when it comes to shock waves and such, cept the guitar amplifies it to a much greater effect. However, I haven't really used it to its full extent yet, since it can harm teammates and enemies alike. And if you think that's neat, one of the projects I'm working on is going to attempt utilize the semblance to boost auras of the user and teammates, as well as make better reinforced barriers. It won't exactly be a fighting weapon, so it'll be like a backup in case we have to do defense or some such." He stopped himself before he went too far, thinking he may have started rambling some. "Heh, sorry if that sounded like a bunch of rambling. I tend to get a bit carried away when I talk about stuff like that." he said, rubbing the back of his head.

Cup stood there, thinking. Unofficial transfer? Hmmm. This sounds interesting. Closed door conversation? More interesting. Conclusion: no questions, again. Cup shrugged.

"Well we've got some things coming up, eh? I'm sure we'll all go through this without any tragic casualties. Emphasize tragic."

Cup commented. Wait up, she looks a loooooot like the queen...... Never mind.

"And please, call me Cup for short. Cuprum is just too long to shout in dangerous situations."

Cup said. He mocked a bow towards Glaci and commented.

"You too, lady."

Admittedly Alani grew a bit impressed at the sheer flexibility that Grey's semblance appeared capable of doing, and even soon adopting an even more supportive utilization along with its dangerous offensive capabilities. "Wow, from the way you list that off it makes my semblance seem like child's play...n-not that I'm saying yours is anything special." She added hastily after her remark, glancing down at her sundae rather hastily and taking a quick bite, shifting in her seat a bit. "Anyway, now that we've got some food in us should we try and find Elizabeth then?" The faunus inquired as she twirled her spoon between her fingers dexterously, her wolfen ears pivoting slightly at the chatter around herself and Grey. "I figure we should at least meet everyone in our team before classes start, or we could continue to screw around and whatnot." Alani added, trying to casually brush off her earlier quip as she spoke.

Pewter shook his head at the display Lyrika was making of eating 'Such a waste'. Just as he was finishing off his food Lyrika brought up the whole 'ten years from now' thing "Hopefully I will be hunting down Grimm, I know not everyone is here to become an actual Huntsman or Huntress, but I am." Pewter kind of zoned out as his thoughts turned towards his past instead of his future, and his face took on a sad look on his face for a second before snapping out of it.

“I do not particularly dislike attention, but rather, the reasons for it,” Ryuuko replied after a long pause. “…I would rather be seen as I am, not as how our family name makes us appear. At times, I wonder if it is a good thing to carry such a name. The pressure it brings and the unrealistic expectations, they ruin my friendships and turn them to unneeded admiration—“

“Say, Ryuu, you mentioned you had made a few friends, correct?” Yuki cut her off on purpose.

                “I have, yes.”

“Do any of them know about the whole Shirogane thing?”

She blinked twice, slowly nodding with wide eyes. “It seems as I have forgotten, though yes, there is one person that knows about it. I did not suspect them of even knowing it until they mentioned it casually.”

“Then you already have a friendship that’s real, right? If one person can see you as you, not as ‘another talented Shirogane’, I bet even more can.” Her cousin’s voice chuckled. “And stop thinking so much. Most importantly, stop thinking so negatively. You’re a team leader, right? So, start acting like one and keep your head up.”

Biting her lip, Ryuuko rubbed the back of her head. “I will try—“

“No, you’re not going to try, you’re going to succeed. Listen, Ryuu, you have to trust your teammates with stuff like this.” Sighing, Yuki said one last thing before hanging up. “But, knowing you, you’re gonna wait a long while before even bringing it up. Good luck.” Though Ryuuko wanted to ask about more, the scroll was already beeping. ‘Trust your teammates with stuff like this’? It…wasn’t a subject Ryuuko wanted to talk about, ever. Maybe they’d see Ryuuko as an individual instead of a walking trophy if she did bring it up—wait, right, Joshua knew about it. He didn’t talk about it to the rest of the group, much to her relief, but Ryuuko had no intention to have the whole hear about this. Returning back to the room, she sat on her bed and became lost in thought. The team seemed like the sort to not worry about classes and the like, though…no, she couldn’t risk it. This was the closest she got to a legitimate friendship with anyone, and there was no way she would want to lose it.

Joshua had been listening to his soft music for a while when he began to think of friends and family at home. His mother and father had been skilled warriors, but their passion truly lied with medicine, his older brother showed no aptitude for huntsmen work and preferred to study to become a doctor. His younger sister on the other hand was a lot like Joshua, but she was more of a battle maniac and was more of a fighter than a healer. That left Joshua, the middle child and the combination of both worlds. Sure he was skilled in both, but his brother was as talented as he was and although his younger sister was studying at signal for her first year, she could handle herself well. However, there was the issue of his oldest brother, but he thrust the thought out of his mind and sat up on his bed. Ryuuko had just come in, Adrian had picked her bed and Varien was probably out on the balcony. Rummaging around in his things he pulled out the book he was reading before, The Pieces of The Puzzle, and walked with it out of the room and into the common room before sinking into a portion of the sofa within the room and starting to read with the sounds of crashing waves echoing through his ears.

Renny watched over her partner with great care. She fluffed his pillow every once in a while and idly unruffled his ruffled clothes. She sat at his bedside for a few moments before shrugging and deciding to try and wake him up. "Argent? Wake up Argent." She said gently as she shook him a bit, careful not to hurt her partner's damaged arm. "Wake up." She repeated as she shook a bit harder. "WAKE UP." She tried once more before cocking her fist back, the wrists glowed as fire dust worked their magic into them. "WAKE UP PUDDINGHEAD!"

"Nah, yours is far from child's play. Having your own pair of wolves is totally badass!" He said with enthusiasm as he finished the last of his meal. "Yeah, we probably should get about finding her. Then we can get the dorm situation settled and such." He got up and dumped his trash in a nearby bin before heading back to where they were sitting

“Trust your teammates with stuff like this.”

Ryuuko lowered her head, the phrase repeaing over and over. How was Yuki able to do things like that? She wasn’t even part of the main family, yet people adored her. Much more than herself, anyways. Compared to Yuki, Ryuuko didn’t seem that great. Yuki was sociable and able to relate to other easily, while Ryuuko was too formal and barely knew how to talk to anyone outside her class. Yuki could relax at will, even able to show off, but Ryuuko’s calmness had to be feigned at times and mistakes happened too often. Really, Yuki should have been part of the main branch. She was the one more capable of being in charge. Maybe Ryuuko should have just stayed at the family inn and took care of—

…none of this mattered. What gave her the right to complain, anyways?

She stood up, headed to one of her suitcases and pulled out a textbook, redirecting her thoughts. Just focus on this. It would be best to just ignore insignificant things like this and completely disregard them. Feelings like that would decrease productivity. Besides, whenever she thought too much about what she did, she would fail miserably. One of these failures almost ended her life. Attempting to numb herself, she began to read with a slightly pained expression.

There was no time for mistakes.

Argent Chatterton

Argent was having a wonderful dream. He dreamed that he was back in his hometown where everything is clean and orderly. His family members are there happy and even Adrian was quietly sitting by the side, just enjoying the nice sunny weather and her freedom which Argent gifted her with. Everything was great.... Until dark cloud came in. Everything just going to hell, blah, blah, blah, more nightmare stuff.

"M-Mom! D-Dad! W-what's going on?" Argent panicked and began running. Up in the distance, he saw a person standing there. "Adrian! Oh thank goodness, we have to... Adrian?"

"Wake... UP!" Dream-Adrian/Marie screeched before running her halberd right through Argent.

Back in the real world, Argent literally jolted out of bed and rolled onto the floor. Groaning in pain, he looked up at his assailant with teary eyes.

"Oh... Its just you... Renny.... Some advice.... Just pinch my nose next time....That... works.... ow..." Argent gasped as he slowly got up from the floor. In pain? Yes but fully awake. He looked around and found that he was back in the infirmary.

"Gee... Why didcha have to drag me back here of all places...? C'mon... I think we should look for the other two members of our team unless you have anything better planned, Renny?" Argent suggested, keeping a meter's distance between himself and Rendure. Out of precaution. He then pulled out his Scroll, which is somehow intact, and looked up the names of his other two teammates.

Adrian Cuthbertson

"Hm... I guess I should get changed..." Adrian muttered to herself as she was placing her things into the bedside cabinet next to her bed while the others did their own things. She walked out to the common area and opened her locker to pull out the Beacon school uniform. She frowned slightly at the fact that she had to wear a skirt before making a mental note to ask if its okay for her to wear a male uniform. She quickly entered the bathroom while no one was inside and got to changing. Everything fits well but she kept on smoothing out her skirt.

"Too breezy..." She sighed as she exited the bathroom and for the first time, felt embarrassed around boys. Being too used to wearing pants, she hated skirts but she figured that she'll have to get used to it since she's going to be wearing one for the next 4 years in Beacon. As she walked towards her bed, she noticed that Ryuuko seemed to be distressed over something. She silently sidled up to her and peeked over at what she was reading, a textbook on Grimm. She's probably worried about facing them. Adrian thought to herself before reaching out to tap Ryuuko's shoulder.

"Um... I-if it doesn't trouble you Team Leader... Perhaps we could... revise together? I'm very familiar with common methods of dispatching or avoiding Grimm..." Adrian sheepishly offered, nervously twiddling her thumbs while smiling an awkward and forced smile.

Elizabeth "Izzy" Turquoise

For a few hours, Izzy had been in the cafeteria, asleep there instead of in the medical wing where most of the others were.  For now, she was awake and relaxing, legs up on the the table as she took the last few sips from her final FIZZY brand energy drink, setting the empty aluminum can down next to several other empty cans.  She often had issues waking up early in the morning, and staying awake through the day, hence the raw amount of energy drinks she consumed a day.  Perhaps it wasn't the healthiest thing, but she didn't have much to worry about there, as her life as a hunter required the energy anyhow.  Izzy let out a happy sigh, feeling relieved no one died in that odd attack earlier.

However, just as she began to think of re attack, she noticed her teammates enter the cafeteria from where she sat near the corner.  Grinning, she stood up and walked over.  "Hello!  Name's Izzy and I'm gonna be your team mate!"  She exclaimed, looking over Grey and Alani, thinking for a few moments, briefly holding out her metal right hand for a shake, before the flicker of a frown crossed her face and she pulled it back, holding out the left hand instead.  "I wanna talk weapons.  What kinda weapons do you guys have?  I myself have my Lancei Triplexi, a combination  of Lance and Longbow.  I made it myself a few years back!  Works like a charm and incinerates just about anything I shoot with it!" She bragged, a bright smile upon her face.  She evidently took a lot of pride in her weapon, and it made sense, considering all the effort she had put into creating the weapon, after all.

It took Ryuuko a moment to respond, being too absorbed in the book. “…Oh…um…that would be most helpful,” she said, quickly forcing her smile back to her face. “I am unused to working with others when it comes to combat and such, so any aid you can offer will be appreciated. In all honesty, I do not believe the younger Grimm will provide us with much issue, so I would rather prepare tactics for the elder ones, as they prove to be much more intelligent and deadly. We should also factor in our own strengths and weaknesses for this. For example, I would say we should…” Ryuuko began to bring up various ways to handle opponents on a battlefield, using all sorts of archaic battle terms. Still, her suggestions were very precise and detailed. It almost even seemed recited with how the words were phrased. “…and that is all I can think up, as of now. What would you recommend for our future battles? Another mind helping with a subject such as this will be very beneficial, so whatever thoughts you have can improve existing tactics by a large amount.”

One of the beds to the door shuttered as something smacked into it gently. For anyone else, it would be a gentle rustle and maybe a light 'ow'. For Seraphina, it was more of a 'CREAAAAK" and a yawn, not caring that she was holding a bed a few feet in the air. Seraphina put down the bed before slowly rolling out from under the perfectly clean and tidy matress. She had slept on the floor nearly silently! Their 'pudding head' reference made her get out of bed and fall to her knees, bowing her head to the two. She squeaked out, "I-I'm sorry for sleeping! I have just never had such a wonderful place to sleep in before! I'm so sorry..." She was trained like a dog more than a Deer. She was never allowed a bed back home, hell she was taught to not even be allowed to sleep on one. The crystalline girl would slowly raise herself before sitting on the floor next to her bed, doing maintain on her horrific weapon of destruction... wich had the logo of a certain Atlas corporation towards the handle.

"Actually Fenris and Lupa are only one aspect of my semblance, I've got a whole other means of utilizing it." The faunus remarked as she dumped her own trash along with Grey, giving a soft nod to his mention of them finding their fourth and final teammate, and it seemed they would be the ones to be found instead. Looking over at the rather bubbly sounding greeting, Alani turned to see a blue haired girl smiling and offering out a hand in greeting. Extending her own hand to accept the offered greeting Alani faltered as the girl switched hands, smoothly transitioning to shake her hand.  "Hey Izzy it's a pleasure to meet ya. I'm Alani and this is Grey." 'Alani remarked, introducing herself and her teammate to the girl before them, blinking a bit in surprise as Izzy suddenly delved into an eager questioning about the duo's weaponry. Sheesh, guess this girl likes weapons.' She thought to herself, giving a soft smile in return. "Sounds like an impressive piece of gear. I myself wield a pair of bladed armored gauntlets named Fenris and Lupa, they're pretty focused on close to medium ranges. The blades can retract and convert my gauntlets into a pair of chemical throwers utilizing dust ammunition. I can also augment my gauntlets when their blades are extended with whatever dust I have loaded into my gauntlets which is generally electrical or fire." Alani spieled off her own description of her weapons rather casually.

With a melodic chime by default, as well as a few other personalized tones, students scrolls began to buzz and sing to life. Their screens flashed that each student had recieved an important message from the school.

Beacon Newsletter

Hello! And welcome to another edition of the Beacon Newsletter!

Today our headline comes straight from a request by Headmaster Ozpin and Queen Yan. The decision was made on a somewhat short notice, which is why there hasn't been an official announcement yet. I suppose they were as excited about it as we are and couldn't wait until morning to tell us! Now, I bet you're wondering what could possibly be so special. What does Ozpin have in store for us? Give up yet?

Well here's your answer! Apparently, Ozpin and The Queen had a meeting. During that meeting The Queen decided that she had "...Seen admirable combat skills in (your) students already." And wants to "...See if (your) students can serve as more than just warriors." So what does this mean? Well, Queen Yan suggested that in order to observe Beacon students as more than just future Huntsmen and Huntresses, we should all partake in one of Abarat's traditional holidays. "The Light's Sky Ball would be perfect for students to showcase that they truly are something special." The Queen suggested.

So what does that mean? It means it's time to look a dress and a date because Beacons homecoming dance is coming early this year in an extremely special joining of two cultures. More details will come later but mark the date because 3 weeks from now, the Lights Sky Ball will make history at Beacon!

Now on to our more regular news. Your scrolls will have been updated with a new list of missions as soon as this newsletter reaches you. Be sure to reserve the mission you want early! Some of the new missions are listed below:

The newsletter continued on but without much more important content. Opinion pieces, sports interviews, and movie reviews comprised most of the remainder of the newsletter.

Joshua's tranquil wave noises were suddenly interrupted by a bird chirping, his alert tone. Putting the book down and marking where he was at, he thumbed open his scroll. Apparently they would be holding a homecoming ball here at Beacon, which meant dates and dancing of all things. Pushing that aside for now, new missions were being offered by the professors and staff here, ~Ryuu should see this and make a decision with all of us, she's team leader after all.~ Closing the book, and putting his scroll back in his pocket, Joshua made his way back to the room where he noticed Ryuu and Adrian working on something together. "Sorry to interrupt, but I take it you've seen the news?"

@Danchou Tsubomi @Wandering Hollow @Cruor Flumine

Ryuuko glanced at her scroll, reading rather quickly. ‘Homecoming’? ‘Find a date’?

…She skipped that part.

“Missions, is it? Well, that is most curious…which ones do you wish to do? In all honesty, I could work with any of these, for I do not see anything that would prove problematic.” A part of her wanted to ask if they could choose missions with minor amounts of combat, since walking hurt and fighting would also hurt, but she decided against it. After all, these missions would help out a greater number of people and her mild discomfort was not important compared to that. “We should decide quickly so that we can get the mission we want, for certain. Any particular one that you all believe to be a good choice?”

Adrian quietly listened as Ryuuko brought up her points. She was intrigued by her very valid and precise, albeit old suggestions. Hm... Valid but rather stiff... Adrian thought to herself before Ryuuko asked for her own pointers.

"Hm... My points are similar to yours... It is true that young Grimm aren't much of a problem due to their smaller bone plates but they should never be underestimated.... As for combat styles, I myself prefer long ranged combat, much like Varien himself does with our weapons... Although if you ask- Ah, excuse me," Adrian was interrupted by her Scroll's notification ping, taking it out to read the new message on it. She was rather curious about the missions and simply passed over the part about the dance without even reading it.

"Missions... They all seem rather interesting and varied...." Adrian muttered, reading and re-reading each mission description with interest. A part of her was interested in the Housekeeping mission since it lets her go out in the forests but she was keen on brushing up her social skills.... She then decided on the perfect mission.

"The 'Guests of Honor' one sounds interesting... It lets us walk around the school properly and we might get a chance to meet the Queen.... I think..."

@Danchou Tsubomi @Clockwork Syringe @Cruor Flumine

"The Guests of Honor huh?" Joshua pondered aloud. It seemed like a good mission to undertake as it might give them the chance to meet the queen, after all, he still wanted to ask her within reason of course, what she new of the knights from earlier today. Then again, the other mission that piqued Joshua's curiosity was the "Recover a Lost Relic" mission. Having made his preferred choices clear in his mind, he spoke to Ryuu and Adrian, "That sounds like a good mission, but I'm also particular to the "Recover a Lost Relic" mission. I'm interested in learning about remnant's history, but the final decision falls to you Ryuu," Joshua grinned at Ryuuko as he finished his explanation.

“We should discuss missions with Varien before we decide to head off to formally accept the task.” Ryuuko stood up, heading to the door of the balcony. She knocked first, respecting his privacy. Though she was unsure of what exactly he was doing, Ryuuko considered herself to be a rather reserved person and thought he'd appreciate the gesture of not barging in. The door was opened slightly, but she didn't enter. “Varien? We are...about to receive a mission, and I was curious about which one interested you. The ones that our group likes include Housekeeping, I Have No Words, and Guests of Honor. I do not particularly have much of a preference for any, though I suppose an interview would be fine for me. I believe you would want to some other kind of mission, correct? Everyone's input is important, considering how we are a team and must do what benefits the majority of us.”

Varien turned to the door from his seat before reaching for his helmet. He stopped as his bare hand touched it. How long could he hide his face from his team? They had a right to know. At least his leader did for certain. He relaxed back into his seat, albeit a bit reluctantly. "Thank you for knocking, you can come out. I would rather discuss these face to face than through a curtain." He said. His helmet had hid the raspyness of his voice, a result from his burns. He had to place his trust in these strangers, they were going to be together fo the next four years after all. He took a rather long drink from the flask before steeling himself for whatever her reaction would be.

Opening the door fully, the sight before her made her hesitate slightly. It was not out of fear, but rather, surprise that made her stop in her tracks, though she responded with a smile. “Right, my apologies. I had assumed you to be a private person, so I did not wish to interrupt your thoughts. Anyways, we have received messages from the school on our scrolls. Do any of these tasks interest you?” Ryuuko rubbed the back of her head. “I am still not used to this whole leader role quite yet, so I am unsure of how well I am doing with this, but I suppose we will rely on 'majority rule' and decide the mission based on that.”

Varien smiled, still looking towards the radiant sunset. "Not quite the reaction I was expecting. Thank you." He turned his gaze from the sky to Ryuuko. "You'll get used to the role in time. Now, as to the missions, I have no preferences. Just don't expect me to talk much if we choose the interview one." He said, smiling. He had a feeling he could trust her. Varien could see the pontential in her to be a great leader, someone he would follow to the ends of the world if she so wished.

“Does Guests of Honor work? The only talking required would be when we tell reporters to leave our campus. This mission seems to be one that works for the majority of the group.” Thinking about it, Ryuuko believed that this mission would be a rather easy one. She knew just how to talk to people such as them. After all, Ryuuko had to make reporters leave the inn when they tried to claim it was scamming people or anything scandalous as that. “I think it would be rather helpful for Beacon to stop people from invading the students’ and staff’s privacy, due to how exhausted they may be from the battles against the knights. Besides, I…do not believe most of them will handle the incident well, for they may exaggerate details for the sake of publicity.” Sighing, she put her hands into her pockets. “Truly, people do strange things to ensure their articles gain attention…”
