Cannon Thief
Koamaru stood with his back turned to queen as he buttoned up a fresh shirt. The fact that she had requested one of his shirts be brought to him from his luggage made him wonder how much power she really had in her kingdom, and even how much she wielded on this visit. For that reason, he had decided against asking her to leave him some privacy or look away while he disrobed. Turning his own body was easier and avoided any possibility of awkward eye contact.
Halfway through buttoning up his shirt, he stopped at the bandages wrapped around his chest. The black outline that displayed the visual cue of whatever poison had entered his body was gone, but the wound remained. Be had been instructed to avoid too much strenuous activity for a while and change the bandages regularly. That seemed to be easy enough for the time being. He finished buttoning his shirt and adjusted his cuffs as he turned back to the queen.
She had definately been watching and waiting patiently. Perhaps this was normal in their culture. There was a good amount he would have to start investigating now, including what his purpose was in her service. Whatever being in her service meant. Before he could put forth his inquiry, the queen seemed to have read his mind.
"You need not worry about your responsibilities now. They will come later." The queen had a slight smirk as she spoke. Her seat at the window hadn't changed other than crossing one leg over the other. She was still wearing the same dress from the assembly. Up close it looked much more intricate with several different layers and types of fabric. "I would like to know your exact thoughts on has brought you here though."
"You mean what happened in the forest?" Koamaru replied, finishing rolling one of his sleeves up. A nod from the queen started his train of thought momentarily. "I'm not sure if it's my place to make any uncouth assumptions."
"As Headmaster Ozpin has informed me, it was your profession to make assumptions before your invitation to attend this school." The queen added calmly.
Another piece to the puzzle of how far her power reached. Ozpin was connected to this in some manner. He doubted Ozpin would be in the Queen's pocket, so they were collaborating. In any matter, it seemed Her Highness wanted to test his abilities. "Specifically about what we encountered at the end." He started and began to pace around the room as he fixed his other sleeve. "If the army we encountered wasn't yours but wore your uniform they must be some kind of deserters or criminals that stole an entire armory. I'm not aware of any other factions on Abarat so the former seems more likely. The ramshackle state of their dress would support that theory as well as point to the fact that they left your service some time ago." Koamaru paused, wondering if the queen would have anything to add. After silence, he continued. "The man wrapped in bandages and cloth was their commander, and he made that known by standing front and center. However, he couldn't have been some disgruntled soldier. The curve of his sword indicates that he would normally fight from horseback. The two swords supports that. If one sword is lost during a charge, or broken, he can draw the second." He stopped again, but picked up his thoughts once more. "So a nobleman, if you have them. Since he and his army are obviously not bound to the plane of reality that you and I are, I'm going to guess a fallen nobleman which is why he stabbed me with a broken sword and why his horse comes in the form of conjured shadows." Koamaru forced himself to stop. He didnt want to overplay his hand on the first draft of a theory, especially not in front of the queen. "Anything more will require additional research."
The queen locked her eyes with Koamaru's for a several seconds before smiling. "You assume your profession well."
Koamaru bowed his head slightly at the compliment. "Thank you, but I also assume that you don't need me to uncover a story you already know well."
"Indeed." The queen slowly rose to her feet, letting a few folds of her dress flow downward. "I may recount it for you one day. Perhaps before the tale ends."
Koamaru noted her choice of words. Whatever story was behind the attack in the Emerald Forest was ongoing. It could have been the reason she decided to come to Vale and observe Beacon. Seeking help to combat a foe seemingly not bound by reality was more than reasonable.
"That will be for another time." the queen walked past Koamaru and opened the door to the office. "Please do make use of your profession when you can, however, now I must ask upon your service." She placed a hand on the shoulder of a knight waiting outside the door and whispered something against the side of the helmet. The knight marched off quickly but not too far.
Koamaru could hear the loud metallic march moving down the hall and stopping what assumed would be a few rooms away. The fact that Queen Yan was waiting at the door indicated she was waiting on the knight to return. And when he did, Koamaru's eyes widened.
Some time later...
Koamaru hit the send button next to the message he had typed on his scroll. The quick group message to his team popped up as sent shortly afterwards.
"Hope everyone made it back in one piece. Meet up soon?"
He wasn't the leader of the team and he had encountered everyone on the team at least briefly already, but he wanted to be in their company soon. He had a lot of explaining to do.
