RWBY: Old Rites (In Character)

"Probably." Koamaru stained his voice trying to speak. Agnes seemed to be trying to mitigate his injury, so Gaucho moved his weight of the wound. Still vigilant, Gaucho poised himself to attack anything within a pouncing distance regardless of what it may be. Koamaru turned his head to and winced at the change in pressure and forced himself to start coughing. After another deep breath, he coughed violently again before coming to a rest. "Not coughing up blood so I'm at least not dieing quickly."

Despite his body feeling drained, he kept a firm grip on his weapon. Maybe whatever poison was on the blade that was now working through his body hadn't reached his hands yet. That was all he could deduce would have taken him out of commission. Then again, supernatural causes weren't out of the question now. He made a note to look into the library and research the subject, if he survived that was.

Unknown to Koamaru due to being unable to pick his head up, the edges of his wound had turned black with smaller black lines shooting out under his skin. It was barely visible under his blood stained shirt and skin, but still prominent.

At the start of things the group of students appeared to be holding their own as the necrotic knights were felled one after the other both visible and invisible, but it appeared that the cloth covered leader wasn't one to stand idly by, soon taking action himself in an outright eerie fashion. Alani had been largely busy trying to ensure those knights who were invisible didn't manage to wrap around and surround the group, but it seemed that with every few that were felled by herself or the others more simply took their place. "Oh come on what's it take to kill you guys!?" She shouted in anger as she cleaved one knight in two with a sweep of both her gauntlets, having switched to melee shortly before. This was bad, she'd been too zealous in her attacks and relied on her aura to protect and deflect against the blades of her enemies, and as a result her reserves were low. To top things off she'd expended a lot of fuel with the huge flaming attacks at the beginning of this fight, foolish. Alani should have been more sparing instead of just making big, wasteful attacks seeing how numerous and persistent their enemies were.

It wasn't until the air chilled that Alani paused, sweeping her eye over the battlefield, and giving a soft gasp upon seeing the leader of the hostile knights apparently take action himself with a voice that nearly froze her spine with ice. It wasn't long before one of the students staggered back as the hilt of a blade pressed into his chest before collapsing backward. Shortly after two other students reeled with apparent attacks, blood seeping from wounds with one young girl bleeding with a particularly nasty strike. The redhead growled out, her aura glowing faintly as she summoned forth her spiritual wolven companions. "Lupa, Fenris, work with the dragon in protecting our wounded, don't let anything close to them aside from the other students!" She shouted her commands to the ebony and ivory wolves who wordlessly bounded off to join Ryuuko's dragon in protecting her and the other wounded. The sudden appearance of another student drew Alani's attention, the girl striking with an obviously titanic swing, but simply connecting with little more than that necrotic mist to the result of...her just dissolved?! Even with the sight of mechanical machinery, the site of Agnes's missing arm was something that knotted Alani's stomach in a sickening way. 'This is insane, we're just barely first years in beacon...there's no way we can beat something like this!' Thoughts of doubt began to fill Alani's mind as she looked around at the quickly floundering defense of herself and the group with two students already incapacitated and one outright missing her freaking arm!

Gritting her teeth, the faunus took a steady breath as she fell back to a closer distance to the other students, an idea of how she could immediately help coming to mind. She had enough fire dust to ignite the claws of one of her gauntlets...heated enough she could cauterize the wounds of the students if not to simply staunch the bleeding. Seeing that the student who'd been stabbed, Koamaru was his name, already being tended to by the girl who had just lost an arm, Alani headed over to kneel next to Agnes. "Hey, name's Alani, any way I can help with this wound?" She asked Agnes, retracting the metallic plating of her left gauntlet so her hand was now uncovered and tentatively reaching down to lift up Koamaru's tattered shirt and gasping at the black. "O-Okay I know that's not supposed to happen!" She remarked, covering her mouth at the sight. While not a medic herself, Alani had an idea of what necrosis was, but so recently after a wound there was no way that could take place right?

Agnes ripped the fabric of his shirt to expose the wound. The edges of the exit wound appeared a vile black color. "What is this?" She gasped, never had she seen anything like this before. She reasoned it must be a result of some bio-weapon coated on the sword that was far from her knowledge. Quickly, but clumsily she applied the gauze around his shoulder in abundance. Using only one arm, she bit the end of the bandage and pulling while holding it down with her hand. making sure to tighten it for optimal pressure. Having him bleed out was not something she did not want to happen. Agnes re-adjusted her respirator, she knew that they'd need to fight soon. The ghastly wisps hadn't left yet, and judging from what happened to Koamaru, they were out to kill the students.

Mocha was on all fours, still shellshocked from her failure. As the black wisps drew closer, Agnes called out to her, "Mocha! Get up! This isn't the time for bewailing!" Mocha didn't budge, only looking up from her comatose disconnect to see Agnes yelling at her. "Mocha! If you're a soldier you will get up!" Mocha's mind clicked, the words relieving her from the defeat. Mocha was raised as a soldier, not as a fighter. She wasn't supposed to have a pride, she still has responsibilities to carry out.

Mocha quickly sprung up onto her feet, unsheathing her swords from her back. Holding them with a reverse grip she stood guard against the knights.

Agnes refocused on Koamaru's peculiar wound, if this was a biohazard, she had to take the standard protocol and mark Koamaru as infected. Taking out a red marker from her pouch she drew a red "X" on his cheek. She called out, "Joshua! You need to check this!" trying to wave him over as she didn't recognize the symptom of "black flesh".

Joshua heard Agnes' call and turned to look as she was waving him over. He then glanced back at Ryuuko to figure out what to do and then it hit him, Ryuuko was down for the count and she wouldn't survive if he left her there, even with the dragon she conjured. So, he did the only thing he thought of, putting his warhammer on his back, he lifted her up and began to carry her in one arm while holding the warhammer in the other as he ran over to the other student to see what Agnes was going on about. Unfortunately for a nearby knight, it attempted to take advantage Joshua's handicap and it ended with Joshua grabbing Rolling Thunder off his back and pointing the barrel at its' head. Joshua pulled the trigger and the knight simply lost his head before collapsing to the ground. "Out of my way," Joshua spoke, as he made his way over to Agnes before setting down Ryuuko near Agnes and rushing over to the other student. "Agnes what's wrong?" Joshua asked before he saw that she was pointing to the black flesh on the student. Taking a closer look, he saw the flesh in question and a grave look appeared on his face before turning back to Agnes. "This isn't good, he's poisoned alright, but I can only slow down its' progress. We need to get back to Beacon, they're better equipped to take care of this than me." Joshua reached into his bag and pulled out a syringe and uncapped the needle before plunging it into a nearby unaffected area. "It's an anti toxin, it will only slow it down, but we seriously need to get out of here."

Chaos. More chaos.

It was the only thought that was processed through Cup's head. As the knights fought back in a rather terrifying way, Cup kept his concentration to track the knights. Sadly he missed one coming from his back just until it stepped on an empty magazine.

"Convenient."

Cup muttered as he blew a hole on its head. Another knight tried to strike him. Cup grunted and tried to dodge. And the knight..... tripped?

The sword's hilt smashed Cup in the groin, probably a planned move. Cup stood for a moment, fired a round at the knight, and fell down face first towards the ground. Evading the knight, of course. The knight was able to also leave a small cut on his stomach. However, for Cup, it wasn't so important, for now. He lied there, face kissing the ground. He could hear laughters of the knights fading away.

Neil perked up when she pointed. He quickly looked, his eyes turning into hearts at the sight of his beautiful Sheila. "THERE'S THE SUGAR!" Neil exclaimed, clenching and un-clenching his fists as they slowly made their way to the gun. Neil had spent his whole allowance on that gun. Not only did he buy the gun itself, but he also bought the customization for a pink handle AND the dust rounds. To lose it to these dusty ol' knights would be like losing his spirit! His eyes widened, however, when a Knight swung at Ignacia. He was about to dive tackle her, but she seemed to have this one. He flinched when she delivered the blade into his stomach and almost covered his eyes when she practically melted its face off. He blinked. Okay then. Once they were close enough, he ran for his gun and picked it up, hugging it to his chest. "Don't ever get smacked away from me again! ...Now, what to do..." Neil tapped his foot, trying to see what they could do in this situation. People were getting hurt, that leader guy was just dangerous, and the knights just kept on coming! Snapping his fingers in realization, he closed his eyes. A flash of Pink went of before a Shocking Pink Neil appeared. Neil four looked around and tilted his head at the original.

"Might I ask what-"

"OK, Four! What should we do?!" Neil interjected, causing Four to sigh. Looking around, he scratched his head. After a few moments, he turned to Neil and went over to him. Whispering in the Original's ear, Neil nodded. With a salute, Four disappeared, leaving Neil with even less Aura than before. Shaking his head, he shrugged and reached into his pocket, pulling out six lightning dust rounds.  This stuff could work...taking out the remaining fire dust rounds and putting them into his pocket, he put in the lightning dust rounds and looked around. Spotting the group, he sighed. "Igna! Cover me!"

And with that, he ran to the group, dodging swipes and kicking legs of any Knights in his way. Finally making it to the group, he flinched at the injuries, but nevertheless stepped up to them. "Alright guys, sihere's the deal! As soon as I give the signal, we bolt it for the cliffs back to Beacon. Is that alright with you guys?"

@Clockwork Syringe @Hamilton @Enkye @Danchou Tsubomi

“…I must apologize, but I believe ‘bolting’ is beyond my skill set at the moment…” When she spoke, you could hear just how tired she was. Ryuuko laughed, keeping up a cheerful face for her friends. She motioned at her leg. “Though I can assure you that I can certainly limp my way back to Beacon. I do not think that would be a pleasant walk, however.” Going back to the topic of running from battle, Ryuuko thought of a plan, though staying awake was getting harder. The main issue was getting the wounded away from the fighting while still being able to move swiftly. “…perhaps my dragon could work for transportation for the injured? Considering that I had made it recently, it should be able to carry us for a good enough while, however...I am not sure how long I can remain awake. I do not know if my consciousness can deactivate it or not, so if I look even the least bit exhausted, please make sure I do not go unconscious.”

Ignacia nodded to Neil's request she blocked as many attacks as possible for him. Drawing many of the knights off of Neil. However, at this point even she couldn't be completely confident in her survival, her flames were losing their effectiveness. The mist thrust forward a sword, so she punched at it, weakening it's point and softening it enough for her to effectively stop it without being cut. Suddenly another sword from behind was swung, aimed directly at her neck. She managed to swiftly turn around and catch the blade. She gripped it, collapsing the end of it into a cylindrical mass of metal, but unlike before, the metal was now only crumpled. Seeing her tattoo transitioning to a blue hue she sighed. Damn.

Ignacia was running out of juice. Dashing towards the group of students. She agreed with Neil, "We have to get out of here. I'm not doing so well on fuel right now." Her flames began flickering, where as before they were roaring, now they were barely able to keep up with the wind around them. Tch... She looked down to her hoodie pocket where she kept a vial of red dust to replenish her energy. But consuming that much dust at once would be... sickening. And she really didn't want to barf in this situation.

Neil blinked at Ryuu's plan. He scratched his head. Maybe...No...No they couldn't. "Sorry, Ryuu. That just sounds a bit too risky. If ya fell asleep, we'd fall out of the sky. And trust me, we wouldn't be able to make a 'Landing Strategy' this time..." He cupped his chin and looked at the group. His eyes looked down at the guy with the dog before they landed on the doctor guy...yeah...YEAH! Snapping his fingers, he closed his his eyes and focused. This was going to really drain him when this was over...a big flash of pink appeared. All three Neil, now standing beside the original, looked around.

"WE'RE STILL HERE?!" Two asked.

"I-I don't like this...I-It's scary." Three said meekly.

"Yes. This is a problem indeed." Four said. Neil clapped his hands to get their attention. Once they all turned to him, Neil pointed to the injured Ryuu.

"Okay, guys! Teamwork! All three of you help lift her!" Neil said. All three of them just looked at him, blinking. Neil gave them an 'Are you serious?' Look and snapped his fingers, causing them to jump and quickly rush to the girl. All three of them got into a line and slowly picked her up, holding her over their heads. With a nod, Neil turned to Igna and Doctor guy. "Alright, you guys!" He pointed to Dog guy. "Help him up together and THEN on my signal we run. Okay?"

@Hamilton @Clockwork Syringe @Danchou Tsubomi @Enkye

Joshua raised an eyebrow at Neil's suggestion, was he seriously suggesting that he pick up an infected human body and bolt back to Beacon? No, he was not doing that for one thing, he didn't want to get infected with, whatever the knight infected that guy with. However, there was ONE thing that he could do, it's just that he hadn't done it under this situation before. "Look Neil, I'm not qualified to pick him up, he's infected with whatever that knight stabbed him with, however there is one thing that I can do with my shield making abilities, until my aura is drained completely that is, Aura Envelopment."

Grey was undoubtedly slightly horrified as he saw a number of his comrades maimed by the black vapor spewed from the strange soldiers. Seeing Alani send her wolves to protect the wounded as she helped, he decided to add an extra barrier of protection by unleashing a constant wind-based soundwave between the vapor and the wounded. He was determined to keep it up as long as it takes to get everyone safely out of there. Once they were, he had a plan to use a shockwave to launch himself out of the vicinity.

“…ah…the dragon can walk…as well… it would be more…useful as for defense at the…moment…” Ryuuko stayed awake for as long as she could, but she had reached her limit. With her vision blurring and fading to black, Ryuuko smiled slightly. Even when she was about to pass out, she made sure to look strong in front of others. “…stay…safe…everyone…I trust you all…” With that, Ryuuko fell unconscious. The moment that happened, Ryuuko’s dragon acted differently. For one thing, it didn’t seem as held back as it was when she was awake. In fact, it seemed…aggressive? Whenever something stepped close to her friends, it lunged ferociously at it and made sure it wouldn’t take another step more.

Neil sighed. Of course. EVERYBODY had something else to say. Neil gave the Medic his best tired look as he went on. Blinking, Neil opened his mouth, ready to suggest something else, but the knights around them reminded him he didn't have much time. Finally, he shook his head. "Fine, Fine, Fine! Just do it and do it fast! Remember! On my signal, we run! OK?!" He turned around and waited a moment, giving Joshua time to do his thing. Finally, after awhile, he sighed and held up Sheila. Whelp. Here goes nothin'! Cracking his Neck and clearing his throat, he grinned...

"RETREEAAAAAT!"

And with that, he fired all six bullets into the ground, causing a huge flash of lighting and the sounds of intense booming and crackling to sound. He turned and ran, as well as the other Neils. He hoped the others would do the same...Man, why was being responsible a pain?

Mocha was drawing the attention of the mist while the other students discussed a plan to escape. She backed off from it, despite her skills with her short swords, it was impossible to block everything. The knights were able to draw blood, and she didn't want to become another liability. Running back to the group, she whispered onto Agnes's ear. The instant she heard Mocha's plan, she frowned. Mocha suggested that they have either of them take Koamaru and allow the carrier to run the risk of being infected. "Request declined!"

"This seems to be the only sure fire way. Joshua has a higher chance of being infected. Also, what else can happen to us?" Mocha pointed to Agnes's arm. Spark and bits of rust falling out of the open metal.

Agnes looked up at Joshua, he mentioned using a technique called "Aura envelopement" but if it requires he drains all his aura, then he'll be placed at a high risk to die.

"Fine! But I'm doing it." She pointed at herself with her thumb.

Mocha returned to distraction until they were all ready to evacuate.

Agnes took off her respirator and drew another red "X" on her own cheek, marking herself as infected.

Picking up Koamaru with her left arm and carefully slinging him on her back, she called out to the rest of the evacuating students, "I'm set up! Joshua, you look after Ryuuko as we go back, I'm carrying Koamaru by myself!"

((Cue the barrier))

Joshua saw as Neil fired off his lightning shots and also saw when Agnes picked up the man also marking herself as infected in the process. This was as good of a time as any to use the current magnum opus of his Shield Construction. Taking a deep breath he placed his hammer on his back, outstretched his arms and yelled "AURA ENCOMPASSING!" A blue light pulsed from Joshua's body, the same shade of light that his shield used under normal circumstances. The blue light pulsed again and a blue barrier formed around the group encompassing them within Joshua's aura as if it protected them all from the knights. "I can't hold this form for too long, so lets MOVE!"

Varien had been killing the knights as fast as he could, but then everything went dark as the black mist covered his vision. He stopped firing the revolvers in his hands before holstering The First Curse and gathering the flames in his hands. He couldn't see a single thing, nor gear anything either. The next few moments were excruciatingly painful for Varien as a multitude of blades turned the man into a pincushion. The damned knights got him. The revolver slipped from his hand as he fell to his knees, swords still embedding in his flesh. Coughing up a glob of blood, it hit the inside of his helmet. So this was it for him, hm? Surrounded by enemies and alone, what a cruel fate. He felt the blades rip from his form as he fell facefirst into the earth. He could feel every drop of precious blood leaking from his body even as he closed his eyes and let go his last breath.

"Wake up, dear child."

Varien stirred. The pain was gone, but he wasn't on Remnant anymore. Opening his eyes, he saw nothing but blackness surrounding him. He pushed himself to his feet rather easily for having died from being impaled by swords. He did die, of that he was certain. All was silent now. All was still. But it was not an endless void he was stuck in. Before his sparked into existence a brilliant flame, and from it came a voice so angelic and beautiful that it brought tears to his eyes.

"Your time is not now, dear one, your allies still need you for the coming time ahead."

Varien tried to speak, but found that his voice would not work. The flame before him grew in size rapidly until it was as bright and as holy and as incandescent as the sun itself.

"Rise now Varien Ember. Rise under the holy visage of the sun and adopt the title of my child. Rise Sun Singer, and fight to save this planet!"

He knew not what emotions to feel. Fear. Courage. Love. Hate. These emotions and many more flooded his body as the blazing inferno before his eyes engulfed him.

Varien's body had begun to dissipate on the field. Then, his particles began to glow brilliantly, even through the black mist.  They flowed speedily back to his corpse. Instead of floating away, they began to swirl and condense where Varien had fallen, providing a beacon of light within the darkness. The sun itself seemed to resonate with this, its rays shining brighter than they had been before. In a flash of light, a massive wave of flames spread over the battlefield, completely incinerating all of the enemy knights who were caught within the deadly inferno. The flash was blindingly bright, emulating a supernova. It was like tempered grace had been dropped into empty space. The students who were caught by the wave would feel a pleasant warmth throughout their bodies, rejuvenating the downfallen spirits of those who had lost all hope. From the mist rose Varien, The Sunsinger. His form was completely wreathed in a flood of flames. He hovered in mid-air for a moment before great wings of fire sprouted from his back, these being the spitting image of the wings of an angel. Each wing was twice as long as he was tall and glowed with a brilliant light. From the ground floated up the dropped handgun and back into his hand and glowed brilliantly. If one were to concentrate on him, they would have heard the choirs of angels singing in an unknown language as he fired the gun repeatedly, his aim snapping from place to place. He couldn't see the last of the knights before they were incinerated, but he could feel them. Their every movement was revealed to him as the gun shots rang out repeatedly until they all had been felled. He could feel this energy flowing through his veins, and oh, how wonderful it felt. He was truly a beacon in the darkness now, after all, who needed flesh and bone when one wielded the power of the stars in his hands?

Argent Chatterton

"Hey hey! Welcome back buddy!" Argent called out, lobbing his kukri into the head of a nearby knight, incinerating the poor guy. He fought and watched as Rendure changed form again to Durry.

"Yeah-haaa tag team time!" Argent cried out before he heard a warning call and someone raise a barrier. He put two and two together and came to a conclusion that something is going down. And soon.

"Aaaaand its time to go!" Argent quickly said, grabbing Durry's hand and running off behind the barrier to get some cover.

"Alright... I guess something..." The sound of a halberd blade plunging into the ground and an 'ehem' noise is heard behind Argent. "... is coming up... H-hey Marie... Funny running into you here aha... ha.... ha...."

Adrian "Marie" Cuthbertson

"Tsk... Time's up..." Marie muttered, yanking her halbert out of a knight's torso and retreating behind the barrier. Right behind a certain cat Faunus. She stuck her weapon into the ground and cleared her throat. Her eyes locked into a deathstare.

"Argent Chatterton. We'll have to talk. Later. But first, I'd like you to investigate that man, Varien. He... Intrests me..." Marie said with a slight chuckle. She watched as Varien burst into flames and promptly dispatched the knights with ease. Such power... He's beyond my predictions I made on the airship. What else are you hiding, Varien Ember?

Argent Chatterton

"Uh... S-sure thing Marie..." Argent gulped as his eyes widened at the display. Investigate him?! He'll kill me! Unless... Nononono! Its not going to work... What are you up to Marie...?

Pewter stood there on the steps blood dripping from several wounds, luckily none of them were to deep, several bruises were forming from where he carelessly used flesh to block steel. He had lost count of how many knights he had downed and whether or not he was killing them or just knocking them unconscious but he never fought the same knight for more than a few seconds before they went down.

He lashed his whip out again knocking out a couple more knights before feeling a sharp pain in his shoulder as a sword made contact with his gauntlet. Between the knights he could see a group of students some looked injured but he couldn't tell what was going on over there, and he couldn't afford to put anymore thought towards it he had to keep fighting. He swung his right arm but only two wires came out, that last hit had jammed some of the mechanism... how much longer could he last out here, how many more knights are there.

"Tch. This is getting boring." Kaden said to himself as he pulled his blade from a lifeless knight.

They just keep coming. At first Kaden enjoyed the seemingly endless stream of enemies, but now it was just flat out annoying. They weren't even much of a challenge even with all their numbers. Though it was exactly that reason he was sweating so much. He had been fighting so many enemies at once with no break in between.
Not to mention he still has hadn't fully recovered his aura from unnecessarily using it earlier. He couldn't use his semblance even if he wanted to.

The young man looked for other students to see how they were fairing. He was surprised to see a few students were injured.  He noticed dark tendrils that he instantly knew was trouble. What's happening over there?  He wondered if anyone had died.

Kaden's thoughts were interrupted when a couple of knights attacked him. He quickly dispatched each and began making his way over to the tendrils. From what he could pick up, the dark tentacles corroded whatever it passed through. That might be a problem.

Suddenly Kaden felt heat and saw a bright flame.  The flame annihilated some of the knights and filled him with warmth. It made him cringe. What the hell was that? He stopped moving  to looking to find the source of that flame. He found it instantly.

A being who was engulfed in flames shot down the knights some kind of gun. One after another the knights fell to him. Who was that? Kaden knew he had to be a student. He had to find out who that flaming person was. That would seem like a fun challenge.

Seraphina watched as the explosions, bullets, and swords all clashed around her in horror. Hey crystals were scarred, ripped open in so many places. she had forgotten that she even had flesh below the crystal, but whatever skin she saw was coated up by more bloody crimson quickly afterward. She looked like she was in the worst state out of everyone due to just how much crystal she had to burn off. Plus, the Death Stalker destroying most of her clothes and ripping her shoulder spikes off. When she saw that one of her allies was going to die of an infection, she knew that she would have to get in there...

Seraphina came rushing through the battlefield, nearly her entire torso covered in bloody crystal. Broken bits of aura blue clung to her like a Koala to it's mother. She said, "My crystal will give me protection from whatever infection, and allow me to place him on my horns. It won't be the most pleasant ride, but I believe I have the least probability of becoming infected. i have lost my ability to fight effectively either way..." As more and more stress came smashing into her, she became to sound more and more courageous. to others it might seem like a battle sense, to her it was crippling fear and doubt forcing her thoughts out...

Jasmine rushed to see what was wrong with Koamaru, firing off a few rounds behind her to give Cup some cover while he...caught his breath. She couldn't see the color Koamaru's wound was turning, but she noticed something else, "Your aura." She said to him, "It didn't protect you from that thing's blade?" She stood with his back to him, her own aura channeling into her Augury semblance so she could better predict any incoming attacks and react accordingly, since these guys liked to jump out of nowhere. "Or did it just break through that easily?" Either these things could somehow ignore aura barriers, or they simply were so strong it didn't matter. Neither possibility meant anything good.

Koamaru had been in a trance, partially from his wound and partially due to his own mind being too loud and obnoxious to get away from. He had exhausted his mental library of what poison could be in his body and what could cause the mist that had surrounded the field. He just simply didn't have an answer for anything that was happening, and that was more terrifying than the fact that he had been skewered. Research had to be done. So much research and investigation.

He finally returned to his senses as he was hoisted into someone's shoulders. Agnes, his partner in all if this. If hr had any regrets form this ordeal, it would be that he hadn't even attempted to aid her in any way, or even brought her to mind when the fighting started. Several others seemed to want to offer their help as well before everyone made good on their plan to evacuate.

One plan he didn't feel fond of at all. He hated the idea enough that it motivated him to speak up through his drained state. "My crystal will give me protection from whatever infection, and allow me to place him on my horns. It won't be the most pleasant ride, but I believe I have the least probability of becoming infected. I have lost my ability to fight effectively either way..." If he hadn't just taken a sword to the back, he might have been excited to see her. It wouldn't have changed his mind about her idea, but the sight would have been nice. "No way in hell am I getting willingly impaled again, multiple times."

Another student posed a question rather than help. "Your aura. It didn't protect you from that thing's blade? Or did it just break through that easily?" Apparently being stabbed made one somewhat irritable. "No shi-" he stopped mid-sentence with pain shooting through his body. The pain faded quickly, but was quickly replaced with the cold empty feeling he was becoming too familiar with for comfort. "Yes. He stabbed me. Aura didn't stop any of it."

As everyone was set to run, a deafening echo sounded over the field. It sounded like a crude horn being blown as loud as possible from every angle imaginable. At the horns continuing sound, the mist that had formed over the field began to oukse violently. After seconds of the small wisps of black turning into jagged, stretched lines they finally began turn in a vortex. The wind was gone, but the wisps still moved faster and faster until finally shooting through the treeline. The last remaining knights that had cloaked themselves slowly faded into sight and fell over limp as just suits of armor.

The horn only got louder, playing a single low note until the winds picked up again and a sound started to overlay with it. The sound of several blades cutting through the air and of fire harnessed to move machine mixed with the horns call as several small transport ships from Beacon swopped down from above. They were obviously inentent on arriving and leaving quickly due to the fact that the pilots didn't start slowing down until the absolute last few seconds before a crash woukd be emminent. The landings weren't graceful by any means. Dirt and rock was thrown up from the ground and the ships creaked under the strain of suddenly losing so much inertia.

From the closest ship to the students stepped Ozpin, moving at double his usual pace. He was followed by other teachers of Beacon who quickly made put themselves to helping the injured and exhausted to the crafts. Ozpin didn't say a word, rather he seemed to be searching for something in the clearing.

Glynda oversaw who was put into what airship. Wounded were separated from those who had superficial wounds or exhaustion. Those with serious injuries were placed immediately into ships with waiting medical teams. As soon as the particular students were loaded, the ships took off. The rest followed soon after.

Koamaru was specifically separated from the others. Rather than being taken to a ship with a waiting medical team, his transport held more of what he wanted to see less in this world. Four shining knights from the assembly stood in his ship and remained like statues as he was placed inside. Gaucho managed to chase him down and jump aboard just before the ship took off.

With students safely returned to Beacon, they were guided into the infirmary. Whether they were injured or not, each was given a bed and examination. On some students, extensive medical operations had to be done to stitch up wounds and replace lost blood. These were the students thst mostly didn't leave the beds or hadn't woken yet.

For those who hadn't woken or were still being worked on, Ozpin left a note. To the others, he addressed them personally.

"I'm deeply sorry that your exams turned into such a trial. Our monitoring equipment went out and we only found out what was going on when it was too late.

Thankfully, it seems that you'll all recover from your injuries without complication. The only factor holding back your recoveries will be time, which you'll have plenty of while going to classes and taking on missions once you've healed fully.

Despite the unfortunate events in the Emerald Forest, you did well for yourself. I've updated your scrolls with room numbers and team organization. I figured most of you wouldn't want to stand through another ceremony while bandaged up."

Ozpin gave his short speech in the usual tone he was known for, but with a slight uncomfortable twinge.

"Are there any questions? I'm sure that this has been a confusing time for everyone."

Koamaru had lost consciousness several times aboard the airship. He remembered trying to flail his arms at the knights who seemed to pay him no mind. He also remembered the stinging cold that gripped his entire body and prevented him from doing anything. The only pleasant memory of the ride were short glimpses of Gaucho, as faithful as ever by his side.

He was awake now, but he could barely tell. His vision was cloudy and his body felt worse than before. Earlier he felt just the discomfort, now his own body felt like a cage that he could just barely see the outside world from. He could see his vision shifting and guessed that someone was moving his head from one side to the other slowly. It was probably what had brought him back to consciusness.

Next, he saw a somewhat human figure, but it all looked like a grey and white mass to him. There were maybe a few hues of blue and a few twinkles of something other that gave off a little shine, but he couldn't distinguish it until something suddenly jarred his body to life. His back arched, pushing his chest forward as he suddenly took in a deep breath. As his lungs reached their apex, his vision slowly sharpened to a somewhat normal state.

His body was still weak, but he had some form of control to it now. Everything was still cold, except for his chest. Namely, the wound where the sword had pierced through. His head slowly pulled itself up trying to see what was going on, only to be gently pushed down again. A similar warm sensation filled his head as he pieced together was was happening. Obviously a hand had pushed his head down, so it made sense there would be one on his chest as well.

A hard fought battle later and he adjusted his sight to see none other than Lady Yan, the queen of Abarat staring down at him. In his own mind, the day only proved to be more and more convoluted.

Behind her, Koamaru could make out some kind of a window and not much else past that. The window was large enough that he assumed they were both perched on some kind of sill connected to it.

His deduction was cut short as Lady Yan's voice broke the silence in the air. "Your wounds are deep, and your body has been invaded by evil. You may not live to see the sun rise again."

'Great. I personally meet a queen and it's so she can tell me I'm dieing.' Koamaru's heart sank immediately and didnt even bother trying to respond.

Lady Yan continued. "I have within my power to heal your body and purge it of this evil. I only require an oath of loyalty and service to proceed."

Koamaru could feel a rage building under his chest, and with the rest of his body shut down the feelings quickly escaped. "So that's how it works in your kingdom then. Your boys ambush people and stab them in the back with a poison only you can cure and only after you victim swears loyalty." The words rolled out with an angry bite to them. Normally, Koamaru would have exerted some control in the presence of Royalty. This time, however, it seemed he had nothing to lose. "Seems like a raw deal."

"These phantoms that attacked you are not under my banner I assure you." Yan replied, still with a sweet calm in her voice.

"You can still take your oath and stuff it. I've got no reason to trust you. You've got nothing I want bad enough to serve on my knees for." The hate still rolled off Koamaru's tongue.

"Your service will not be on your knees, and I will explain it in due time. I offer you your life. If you find it unsatisfactory, you may leave my service and end it of your own accord." The queen seemed unphased by Koamaru's hate filled insults.

That was probably the most polite suicide pact anyone had ever offered Koamaru. It wasn't quite a pact yet, but the queen made a compelling argument. No matter how angry he was, ceasing to exist out of being stubborn was not his favorite option. Being a servant wasn't appealing either, but the way the queen spoke gave an air that he wouldn't be carrying gilded trays to her highness and fetching the Royal steed. She had to have something bigger planned.

After a long silence, Koamaru loosened his lips and closed his eyes. "Do it. I'll swear the oath." He still felt a rage turning deep inside his chest, but it was consigned for the moment.

The warming sensation over his chest and head soon spread to the rest of his body and the world went black again.

Upon waking, he could see clearly. He wasn't in an infirmary like he expected. This seemed to be an office or study. An abundance of medical texts and lab costs hung on the wall pointed to the conclusion that he was in the personal office of one of the medical staff at Beacon. With no doctor in sight and a gentle moving sensation flowing through his hair, a second conclusion came. His exchange with the queen hadn't been a fever dream. His head was resting in her lap as they were both seated on a window sill. The sun was setting behind them and Gaucho was sleeping soundly on the floor just below him.

He had regained feeling of his body again. Sore as it was, it was much more clear that he wasn't dieing terribly. His head shifted up to meet the eyes of the queen that had supposedly cared for him, and supposedly now held control of his life.

Her lips moved as gracefully as he had seen at the assembly. "Rest now. Your job will wait for now."

(You can start from the infirmary based on your characters injuries and the ride leading up. Ozpin is there for you to interact with.)

((i'll take you up on that offer))

Joshua was exhausted with a capital E, his Semblance's ultimate ability had saved a few students, but it tired him greatly. To his own credit however, his endurance wouldn't let him fall asleep so he had sat on the ride back musing over what had happened. A horn had been blown from what had seemed to be the knights just prior to the airships from Beacon arriving. Joshua simply closed his eyes and took a short rest on the ship with his head leaning against the interior of the ship.

Flashing forward to now, Joshua was in a chair positioned against the wall looking at the infirmary beds as he awoke again. Prior to falling asleep in the chair, he had assured the doctors that he was fine and he would be willing to help as he was trained as a doctor for this reason. The Beacon medical staff had assured him that if they needed his help they could ask for it. Looking around as he exited the chair, Joshua noticed a few things. So it seemed that the majority of the students had survived and that the more seriously injured and exhausted, more so than him, were resting peacefully in the beds. However, Joshua attempted to activate his semblance and to his surprise he was able to conjure a shield still, must have regained his aura rather quickly despite the exhaustion and the amount he had used in such a short period of time. Looking around in the beds and in the room, he could see a few people at first glance that he recognized in the beds. Ryuu, The student who he saved from the knight, and the infected student with, was that the queen? Joshua wasn't going to ask, he'd ask at another time, besides, he would have liked to speak to the queen at a happier time anyway. However, he did notice that the other students that he interacted with, Agnes, Ignacia, Mocha, Neil, could not be seen at first glance. Joshua was certain that they probably were in the room somehow, but he didn't notice them due to being groggy. Speaking of being groggy, he furiously patted his sides as he checked for his flask, ~good, it's still here,~ he said to himself, considering what was in the flask in the first place. Opening the cap and taking a quick swig before capping it once more, a sharp bitter taste flowed over his taste buds. It was one way to chase off sleep for that matter. Looking around, Joshua spotted Ozpin walking around the infirmary so he decided that he'd ask Ozpin what he knew, if Ozpin would share, that was another story though; it didn't hurt to at least try to ask. Rising from the chair and placing the flask back on his belt, Joshua strode over to Ozpin until he was at his side before speaking, "Headmaster, what do we know so far?"

((Sorry if it seems I'm godmodding here))

Seraphina was covered in, strangely enough, a towel! She was sitting in the infirmary stroking the fine fur. It helped calm her down, which was a needed as she looked down to her body. Most of her antlers laid in ruins shattered to a brutal point. She slapped her hand on the window, looking at the letter she had acquired. She starred at the blackmail letter, looking at it's contents. She was going to have to field test some experimental equipment as likely to blow up in her face as it was to kill her enemies, and was highly uncomfortable. Great! She needed an actual weapon, but this circumstance made her bite her lip in distrust. She was going to have to do it, that she knew. If Ozpin found out, she would be in trouble...

She would walk out to the courtyard to acquire her new gift, which was dual gauntlets attached to mighty Gatling guns. Her backpack would have to support a tall cylinder which would unleash mortar rounds to a pair of glasses. She would smash the guns to the floor, watching it fold up and wrap into each other. It twirled around her, fusing into the backpack to become a massive block of war. It was likely to overheat or not connect properly in battle, but for now it would be a brutal weapon that could level her foes with ease. If she only had it a day before....

Varien, upon the mist leaving the battlefield, collapsed to the ground with a thump. As soon as he fell, the flames winked out instantly, leaving nothing but embers floating away in the wind. The Beacon staff had nearly burnt their hands on the hot metal of Varien's armor, but they managed to get him into the airship and transported back to Beacon.

Upon his regaining of consciousness, Varien bit back a scream. Thankfully, the staff had failed to remove the boy's armor upon seeing that his vitals were stable. What was underneath was his secret to keep and his only. The initial shock of his pain had faded into a stinging sensation covering his entire body. He tried to think back to what happened after the deity had spoke with him in his death, but nothing came to mind aside from the feeling of a comfortable warmth and a bright, but comforting, light. Varien sat up in his bed groggily, letting his helmeted head rest in his hands. "Damn...what the hell happened out there..." He muttered to himself. He slid his legs off the bed and attempted to stand, but nearly fell as he caught himself on the wall. He just had to move around again, get the blood pumping once more. However, he needed to get to the restroom. He needed guaranteed privacy.
