Dope with a Sugar Problem
Cinnamon R. Bons
Cinny perked up a bit when he saw those same big ears move the moment he said something, causing a small smile to slowly cross his face. The smile slowly disappeared however when Azure...well, the person he thought might've been Azure, didn't respond. Or move, except for the hasty grab of her companion's wrist. That...That was them right? I-It had to be...! It couldn't just be someone else! Su-Sure, the clothing was different, but the similarities were just gleaming! Metal arm, Wolf Faunus, One tall, One small. He frowned at the whispers, feeling the confidence he acquired over the year plummet a bit, now feeling like he truly was going crazy. Was his mind playing tricks on him today? He backed up a bit, scratching his head and looking down at the floor in confusion. What was going on?
Seeing a movement from the corner of his eye, he looked back up, eyes widening and hand flying to the handle of his bat when the man stood up and towered over him in one motion. His heart was jumping in his chest, and the two had a brief stare off. It was a tense situation, but in the back of his mind, Cinny saw a bit of humor in this. If this'd happen to him a year ago, he would've crumpled by now, or at least say something stupid. But constant encounters on the road and lessons learned through trial and error toughened up his backbone and reflexes, ready to fight if needed....but instead, there was no need. Staring into those violent eyes, he saw a flash of recognition, causing him to blink and slowly lower his hand. The man stepped back in return, and with a tone of disbelief, said Cinnamon's name with a smile. The hope in the young adult's heart erupted, and a bigger smile crossed his face.
I-It was them! H-He finally found them! The worth of traveling, and loneliness, and fighting for months had been confirmed! "In the flesh..." He said softly. Realizing he was just standing there now, Eph having sat down and patting the seat next to him. Ri-Right! Cinny quickly sat next to his old Teammate, still smiling. Silence grew between the three, and Cinny just stared down at the table...not knowing what to say. What COULD he say? He had been so caught up in find at least of glimpse of his team, or his family, or his friends, he didn't even think of what he'd do after he found them. He just remained silent, gathering his thoughts for a few moments, before he chuckled.
"...It's almost unfair how you guys got taller and I didn't..." Cinny said, still looking at his arms. "...But I guess as long as we're all in one piece, it doesn't matter...and I guess I sorta missed Eph's big head blocking the sun." He chuckled again. He had never really been good at Verbal jabs. "I-I...I kinda missed more than that of you guys, though. To be honest, af-after the...ya know, I thought I wouldn't see you guys again...You guys are tough, I know." He said quickly, not noticing he was still talking or how he began to tremble a bit, feelings bottled up due to his focus on searching slowly pouring out. "Bu-But everyone out there...everyone was just falling. And the Grimm, and White Fang were everywhere. Everyone was just running over each other, an-and the smoke made it hard to see, and buildings and airships were just dropping like flies. An-And they took me all the way to Mistral without me even knowing. An-And I asked the doctors where you guys were an-and they weren't saying anything an-and..." He sniffed, his eyes glazed and tears threatening to fall.
"I...I didn't want to believe you guys were dead...I-I didn't want to believe anyone I knew was..." He muttered somberly, closing his eyes and causing a few tears to slowly run down his cheeks. He sniffed again and let out a shaky breath, of both sadness and overwhelming relief.
