Project Purity (DrTrollinski & Greg2344)

Walker was keeping to himself once again and not really saying much. He always did when he killed someone or did enough damage, or got into a situation where he felt different to his regular mood. He didn't really know why he got like that, but it sort of helped him, in some aspects. It helped him to simmer down and bottle away the anger for another time when it was more useful - that must have been the perk of having a very kind and understanding adoptive father for eight years. His father didn't shout at him very often, nor did he ever hit Walker or refuse to help him learn something new. He was a good dad, and just thinking about it tugged on Walker's heart a little.

".. Megaton..." Daniel said. ".. Don't you live in Megaton, Ivan?" He asked.

"That's right, kiddo." He smiled. ".. My family's there right now... I think. I just hope The Enclave didn't get them." He sighed. ".. I doubt they did. I wasn't anywhere close to Megaton when things went black." He explained. Walker bowed his head and kept walking. He didn't feel like talking, like said previously.

Jax has been killing people for over ten years, so it didn't get,to him anymore. He got over killing the child rather fast, it also helps that he keeps telling himself it was the right thing to do. "Ivan, why would the enclave even be after your family? For all they know, your dead. Also, if your family is in megaton, they are safe." Jax said, reassuringly

Jax was starting to trust Ivan more. The group walked for only about twenty minutes through the cold nighttime wasteland and they arrived at megaton once again. When they walked in, Lucas sims was there again. After Lucas sims greeted them and they did back, the continued walking though the city.

"Why is that guy always there? Does he do anything around the town, other then walk around and greet people?" Jax said laughing.

"So Ivan, should we rent a house for the night or can we stay at your families house?" Jax asked.

".. I--.. My wife can't see me like this. She'd murder me." He sighed and rubbed his head. Daniel had already climbed up onto Ivan's back, and had done so about fifteen minutes ago. Ivan was young and strong, and seemed like he could go on for hours if he wanted to. He had no problem with carrying Daniel all the way to Megaton. ".. Rent a house. Please?" He asked. Daniel was fast asleep - the metal armor was uncomfortable at first, but he got over it eventually.

Walker still hadn't said a word, and hadn't commented on what he wanted to do.

"I don't have any money." Jax said. "Your wife can't see you like what? It's either we go to your house, sleep on the ground, or you pay for a room to rent." Jax said.

".. I'll have to explain to her, then." He sighed and then lead them onto a higher part within Megaton. Ivan seemed to own quite a large home, and it seemed in good shape. It was late right now. Ivan walked up and slowly knocked on the door - there was a brief pause, but then there were footsteps - soon enough, the door creaked open, and then a pretty young woman with black hair revealed herself; she looked at Ivan, and then at the armor, and then broke down into tears. Ivan quickly stepped in and hugged her.

".. It's not what it looks like, honey..." He said. ".. I went missing, I just--.. They must have kidnapped me, or something... I don't remember where I went missing." He sighed. He got a slap around the face, but then she kissed him for a few moments. ".. This is Jax, Walker, and Daniel... They helped me get away from The Enclave... I'm helping them with Project Purity." He said.

".. Okay--.. Okay..." She sobbed. ".. Come in. Please, come in." She added, and then turned around and stepped aside, giving them space to walk in. The home was warm and nicely decorated. Not bad at all.

Jax said "thanks, I'll catch up later, I'm going to go to the bar, "moriarity's Saloon" to be exact. Come there if you need me." Jax left the house and walked down to the bar. He traded a few of his rifle's bullets for a beer. He also had a can of soup in his bag. He sat at the bar just drinking alone. Jax was going to eat his can of soup bit then he traded it for two more beers. He drank all his beers and passed out at his table.

Daniel was actually introduced fully to Ivan's wife and his baby son while Walker went back outside and went to follow Jax to the bar. He didn't really like this town too much - he was being quiet. He still wasn't speaking, and blanked any of the shady characters that walked by him as he made his way up to bar. When he actually got inside, he found Jax passed out on one of the tables, so he went up to the bar and took a seat beside a particularly smelly and obese man that was completely off his face on alcohol. He took once glance at Walker but then looked away, and then got up to stumble out of the bar.

A ghoul behind the bar walked up to him and looked down on him.

"You okay there, kid?" He asked in a raspy voice. Walker was surprised at first, but he just shook it off.

".. Fine." He mumbled. The ghoul looked at him for a moment and then took a deep breath. Walker also remained silent, but then looked up at the ghoul there. ".. Could I get a whiskey... Please?" He asked. His voice actually started shaking, but he wasn't quite sure what he was getting so emotional about. The ghoul shouldn't have really served to someone who was under-aged, but it didn't matter too much in this world. Not many cared much anymore. He poured Walker a glass of whiskey, and Walker was a fool to take in a whole mouthful. He choked on it for a second as the earthy and fiery taste burned his throat, but he actually didn't find it too bad. ".. Thanks." He said, looking down at the bar. The ghoul simply nodded.

Jax woke up and saw walker drinking whiskey. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jax said, while taking his whiskey away. "Are you ok? You seem down." Jax asked. Jax studied him for a moment and could tell he was depressed. Jax sat next to him and put his arm around him.

Walker quickly snatched the whiskey back and gripped it tightly in front of him. ".. I'm fine, I just--.." He shook his head. ".. On the way here... I was speaking to Ivan... I--.. We're going to be going through the town I was born in, Jax..." He choked, sipping his drink a little. He looked a bit upset and worried, and a little pale. There was quite a lot of tension behind that town - he traveled through it once on the way here, but this time it felt different. He'd been through and done so much, and he didn't feel like he was welcome in the town that was once filled with happy innocent people.

The ghoul simply looked at the man and realized that he was already quite a bit drunk, so there wasn't much point in asking him if he wanted a drink or not.

".. I--.." He shook his head again. ".. I think after Project Purity's done... I--.. I don't think I should go home, Jax." He admitted, his voice trembling a little. He was pretty much whispering, too.

"Why would you not want to go home after this? What are you worried about going through the town you were born in? It's just a place, I went to Wheaton armory and you know how I feel about that place..." Said Jax reassuringly. "It's getting late, let's go to Ivan's and get some rest." Said Jax.

Walker finished off his glass of whiskey and nodded to the Ghoul behind the bar and stood up with Jax, sniffling as they both walked out of the bar. He felt really bad about himself. He didn't deserve to go home, not to either of them. It wouldn't feel right. It just wouldn't. He was a killer now, and he'd killed a lot of things and people, and now it was taking his psychological toll on him. ".. I just--.." He quickly wiped his eyes and shook his head, leaning against Jax as they walked on. ".. I'm a killer, Jax... I don't--.. I don't deserve to go back to the place I was born, or home to my dad... Daniel doesn't need to grow up around someone who's done all of this stuff... I--.. I've killed people... I didn't think I'd ever do that, and I don't think my dad would even want me back if he found out." He paused. ".. I'm scared, Jax." He whimpered.

Jax said "you killed a few raiders, it's nothing to get worked up about. If it makes you feel any better your dad has probably killed more raiders then you." "let's get going to Ivan's" he said. The two of them Walked to Ivan's together, when they walked inside everything was quiet because it was late and everyone was asleep. Daniel was asleep on the couch and Ivan and his wife were in the bedroom. "You cam sleep on the couch with Daniel I'll sleep on the floor." Jax said to walker while smiling.

".. Thanks, man..." He patted his arm and then walked over to the couch, climbing up onto it and smiling as he put his arm over Daniel and then snuggled up to him. Ivan had given Daniel a blanket, so Walker pulled it over himself as well and then made sure he was snuggled nice and tightly up to Daniel, just to make sure he was safe. He was careful, though, because Daniel winced in his sleep from his injured leg, so Walker made sure he didn't touch that too much. He closed his eyes and quickly drifted off to sleep.

--

The following morning, Walker was actually the first to wake up seeing as he badly needed to use the bathroom. That whiskey he drank had gone straight to his bladder, and that wasn't a good thing at all. He slowly climbed away from Daniel and then tucked him back in once he'd stood up, and then started hunting around the house for the bathroom. They had an upstairs in this house, which was pretty fancy, but he wasn't sure where the bathroom was. And then he found it. It was right beside the kitchen, so he quickly went inside and locked the door, and then started relieving himself. That was much better - He was going to do something else before everyone else got up, though, something only males could do once they reached the adolescent age. The door was locked, there was toilet paper, and everyone was asleep - he had the chance to have a bit of... Fun? So, he took that opportunity up and did just that.

Fifteen minutes later he was done, so he flushed the toilet and quickly poked his head out to ensure that no one else was around, and then stepped out, brushing down his underwear a little as he meandered off to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water and quickly gulped it down. Daniel had stirred when Walker got up, but he didn't actually wake up fully.

Jax woke up and saw walker awake, Jax was ready to leave megaton already and head to the next vault. "Good morning" Jax said to walker. Jax stepped outside to get some fresh, we'll not fresh, but to get some air. Jax sat out there on the front steps drinking from a water bottle and talking to some of the locals as they walked by him. After sitting outside for about and hour, he went into the house and gathered his things. He said to walker "hey have you seen Ivan around."

"Nope." He sighed. "I'm assuming that he's still in bed. Do you want me to go and wake him up, or should we wait?" He asked. Daniel had already woken up and now he was off towards the bathroom by the kitchen, but he ran right into Jax and Walker. He was limping from his leg, but at least he was moving now.

"Oh, hi, guys..." He smiled at them both. Walker nodded at him, and then Daniel wandered off into the bathroom and locked the door behind him.

".. So, what's the plan?" He asked.

"I guess you should go wake him up , but I don't want to" he said laughing. "Ivan knows where then next vault is so you should be asking him not me." Said Jax. "Hi Daniel, good morning." Jax added.

"Alright... Like I said, it's near my first home, but--.. I don't know where exactly." He sighed and then slowly wandered upstairs. When he got to the top, he heard the baby burst out into cries. He sighed and slowly went into the baby's room and went to its crib. It was a sweet little infant, cute and cuddly, too bad that he was sobbing. He gently picked the baby up from the crib and started rocking him a little. ".. Shh, sh, sh... It's okay, little man..." He smiled and looked down at the baby's face as he started to calm down. "Yeah, there we go..." He smiled. ".. You're a good little guy, aren't you?" He said. Ivan walked in but saw that Walker was taking care of him. He smiled and went downstairs.

"Oh, hey, Jax..." He said.

"Hey Ivan. Are you ready to get traveling? I got all my stuff together so I'm ready." Jax said to Ivan. Jax now almost fully trusts Ivan, at first he didn't but now it seems like Ivan is quite an honest man. "So Ivan, what vault is it we are heading to again?"

".. One-one-two." He smiled. ".. Not too far North of Walkersville. Walker told me that that's where he's from." He chuckled. "Quite ironic, isn't it? Walker's from Walkersville." He laughed a little, but then he heard the toilet flush and then Daniel came wandering out of the bathroom. He smiled at him and gently ruffled his hair. "I'm ready to leave whenever you and the boys are." He said. ".. Walker's taking care of the baby." He smiled warmly. "He must have experience, eh?" He chuckled.

Jax told Ivan quietly so Daniel couldn't hear "walker was just telling me how he's depressed about going to his home town. He told me while ago but his family was killed by raiders up there. He's also depressed about killing the raiders we killed earlier." Jax then yelled up the steps "walker, come on we're going now."

".. Alright... It'd be best if we went through it so he could clear the bad breeze... It'd do him good to face his fear, trust me." He smiled. Daniel walked off into the living room and got changed into his armor, and then slung his bag over his shoulder. He sighed and then went over to the two of them.

"Jax... I can't really walk properly." He said, limping as he advanced towards him.

--

"I'm coming!" He called back, gently. Ivan's wife walked through and looked at Walker, smiling at him while he gently soothed the baby back to sleep.

"Experienced with babies, hm?" She asked, smiling.

"Sort of... Haven't held a baby for eight years, but... I know what I'm doing." He chuckled gently and then walked over to the baby's crib, gently setting him down and covering over with the blanket.

".. You're good at that." She said. "We need more kids in the world like you." She smiled. Walker didn't say anything, though. "I think you got called... Take care of Ivan, for me." She said, Walker smiled and then walked by her and then made his way downstairs to find the others. He got into his armor and loaded up, and then looked at them.

"I'm good to go." He murmured, he looked a little saddened.

"Ok Daniel I'll carry you." Said Jax while lifting Daniel to his back. "Alright boys let's get goin" he said to the whole group. The group walked for about two hours until they reached "evergreen mills" Jax was amazed ate the sight. They were on top of a huge canyon and in the canyon was a large building and there were over thirty raiders walking around the place. They even had a huge cage that had one of the huge super mutants they killed at GNR. Jax pointed and said "I don't wanna go down there.... Ever."

"Then let's make another way around rather than getting caught up with these guys. Standing here and gawking at them is only going to get us killed." Walker said, and then slowly backed away so he was out of sight from the canyon. He looked to the West for a safer route, and there was indeed one that they could take to avoid it, they just needed to be careful and make sure they didn't bump into anyone they didn't want to see.

"I'm with Walker on that..." Ivan whispered as he backed up a little, his gun at the ready, just in case. ".. Let's take another route."

(I did post earlier but when the site went down, it deleted it. I apologize. I'll introduce the main protagonists soon.)

Evergreen mills was quite easy to sneak around, because it was in a canyon, so the group just simply walked around it. That's when they arrived at where the vault was supposed to be, but instead of a magnificent vault it was just a small shack. Jax said "what the hell Ivan! Did we walk all this way for nothing?" Jax put his hand on his machete hilt.

(We were supposed to go through Walker's old town, but we'll do that on the way back :) )

"No, no... Of course not." He sighed. "Follow me... The entrance is inside Casey Smith's Garage, right over there." He pointed at the old building a short distance away and lead them onward towards the door. There was a foul smell as soon as he creaked the door open - it was the smell of animal feces and urine, and it made him choke just a little bit. In the first room, there wasn't anything there, but there was bound to be something else somewhere in the building. "Smell that...? That's Mole Rat, right there." He coughed quietly.
