Project Purity (DrTrollinski & Greg2344)

"Goodnight, dude." He sighed and then went upstairs after Jax left, and then went straight to the guest room that Walker's father had given him. The comfortable bed was something that he hadn't experienced for so long now. It was nice to have that luxury again, even if it was only going to be for a few hours of the night. He was grateful for how much Walker and his family had offered him.

Jax woke up the following morning. He sat on the couch, waiting for the others to wake up, because he needed to tell them he was ready to go to Pennsylvania now. He went out front of the house too see if maybe Jen was around the town somewhere. Nope she wasn't out either, matter of fact... No one was. "What time is it!" Jax said aloud. All of a sudden a very unexpected thing happen, Zed walked through the front gate of the town. "Jax, I missed you dearly." He said while giving Jax a hug. It felt so good for Jax to be hugging zed again, after so many years.

"Zed, how did you find me here?" He asked calmly.

"That doesn't matter right now, what does is I have something important to talk to you about." Zed said.

"What is it?" Asked Jax, confused.

"You have to let go." Zed said.

"Of what?" Jax asked.

"Of the past, and me." Zed said.

"Wake up Jax." Zed added.

Jax woke up on the couch sweating and felt like he was going to vomit.

Walker was already wide awake by the time Jax was up. He was upstairs in his room, looking over all of the gear that he was going to take to Pennsylvania. It was nice to be back in his bedroom - he remembered how damn impressed and excited he was when he first arrived here. He was so happy, because he'd never had a nice bedroom like this one, with blue walls and posters and a really comfy bed. It was awesome. He always thought that he was going to have to forever share a room with Daniel when he was younger, but that turned out not to be the case. He had a bookcase crammed full of books, all of which were Medical, Fictional, Non-Fictional - Everything. He loved medicine, though, and that was obvious. He was a fantastic doctor at the ripe age of fourteen, and Daniel was really catching up, too.

His bedroom was known to be the nicest in the house. It was a four-bedroom house, for sure, but he had the master bedroom that had a bathroom connected to it, which was just awesome. He never knew why his dad never had this room to himself, but he never questioned it. He loved this room, and he'd live in it if he could. When he was six years old, he didn't think that such a bedroom even existed.

He looked over what he had. His rifle, which he'd already polished and loaded. His Colt Python Revolver, of which he'd also polished and loaded, his knife - all clean and sparkly, and finally, his leather armor, which he'd given a nice scrub down so it was good and clean again. Then he had his backpack which he'd stuffed with food, water, and medical supplies on the previous night. They were going to be good to go, there was no doubt about that. First off, before anything else, he needed to pee. He went to the bathroom connected to his room, did what he needed to do, and then went downstairs to get himself something to eat. He was only in a t-shirt and his underwear, but that was going to be changed soon.

He went to the living room and saw Jax sitting there, covered in sweat.

"Shit, Jax...? You feeling alright? You want some water, dude?" He asked out of worry.

"No, yeah, yeah. I'm ok, no thanks, I don't need any water." Jax said. Jax lifted himself to his feet and said, "What's all that you have there?" Talking about all the gear walker had. Jax was still thinking about his dream, could it have been Zed truly contacting him through his dreams? Jax didn't know, he didn't even know if he wanted know. It also made Jax think about the whole Fate topic with Ivan, maybe he'd talk to Ivan about it, Ivan seemed to believe in spiritual things, after all he said "fate controls everything."

"Everything I'm taking to Pennsylvania. I've got enough medical supplies, plenty of food, water - The whole lot." He smiled a little. "All my weapons are polished and ready for use, so we should be safe, providing we play our cards close to our chest and don't allow for anyone to slip an Ace out of their boot, you know what I mean?" He chuckled a little, slinging his bag out into the hallway so he could grab it later on when they decided to leave. "It's still really early, but I think that's a good thing - We should leave and get as far as we can before we have to stop again... There ain't many safe places North of this State, but..." He shrugged a little. "We'll be able to find somewhere that's easy enough to defend, and it'll be good for at least one night." He explained.

He looked around the living room for a moment. It was just how he always remembered it. Dust covered the old TV that didn't work, and covered most of the other stuff in here as well - Walker remembered using this place as his toy room when he was little and first got here. He'd have great games with his superhero action figures, and he's always fly them about the room and treat the whole room as their world. The couches were the mountains, the wooden part of the floor was the ocean, and the carpet in the center of the room, alongside the coffee table, were the forest and the hideout. He loved it.

That was a long time ago, though. God. He wished he was a kid again.

"You want some breakfast? We may as well make some for everyone and then wake them up." He said.

"Sure." Jax replied. They made breakfast and Jax sat at the table waiting for the rest of the gang to wake up. When Ivan woke up Jax wanted to have a talk with him about his strange dream. He figured maybe Ivan would know what the deal with the dream was.

Walker didn't really know what he was going to make for everyone, so he simply made some beans in a pot and then put out some bowls around the table. He gave a bowl of hot beans to Jax first off, and then filled up four more bowls and put them around the table before going to the stairs and calling up them to wake everyone up. He came back and sat at the table and started tucking into his own food, and then Daniel showed up, and then Paul, and then Ivan.

".. How did everyone sleep?" Ivan asked as he sat down at the table and started eating.

"Good." Walker, Daniel, and Paul all replied at once. Well. That was some convenient timing.

Jax didn't answer Ivan's question he just ignored it and then after they all ate their breakfasts, Jax leaned over to Ivan and whispered "I need to talk with you, privately." After the two of them stepped outside of the house Jax said " ok, so I had a weird dream and figured you'd know what to say about it. "So my dad, who was a raider appeared in an empty town and said I needed to let go, then the dream cut short and I woke up. I have a good idea of what it means but do you have any advice to give on it?"

Ivan looked at him and thought to himself for a moment, taking a deep breath. "Well... Your dreams are your head, my friend. No one else's - It's you telling yourself to let go. Consciously, you think you don't have the strength to let go of the past... You want to, though. That's why you had that dream. It's you telling yourself that you need to let go of things." He explained.

"Yeah thanks, let's get walker and Daniel and start to travel." Jax said. Jax was disappointed because he didn't get the answer he thought he'd hear, the answer he wanted to hear. He wants to believe that Zed was alive and used some mystical powers to contact him in his dreams, but Jax was a realist so he knew that the dreams were just the works of his subconscious.

"Mhm..." He said. He went off into the kitchen to find Paul and asked him where the boys were. Daniel was in the bathroom downstairs, and Walker was in the bathroom upstairs, apparently. Ivan decided that he was going to patiently wait for the boys to be done with whatever they were doing, and went and waited in the hallway for them all.

By the time they were done, they had all of the stuff they needed, as well as a few other things to help boost their confidence. They both had a copy of them with their dad - the photos were taken with an old Polaroid camera, and it was from a few years back when Walker was ten, and Daniel was four. They were actually really cute pictures, and they were just good memories to carry along the way.

"Bye, dad." Walker said, hugging his dad as tight as he could. Daniel soon came and joined in on the hug without words. Daniel actually felt a little bit tearful, so he wasn't saying anything.

"Goodbye, boys... I'll be waiting for you when you get back." He smiled sadly.

"Dad... Please... Take care of yourself. Eat something, get some sleep every night... You're letting yourself waste away." He sighed a little and rubbed his back. It was hard for Paul to say anything, but he simply nodded and patted Walker's back.

"I will, son." He choked, and then went over to Ivan and shook his head, wished him the best of luck, and then went to Jax and held out a hand for him to shake, too. "Take care of my boys, Jax. You've done a fine job so far." He smiled at him. "Take care of yourself, too. This town needs more people like you." He said.

Jax shook the mans hand. The words Paul said almost brought a tear to Jax's eye, for the first time in his life he felt like a good man.

"Paul, thanks for letting walker and Daniel travel with me, I know it's hard to let your only kids travel with some mysterious man you've never met before. I promise I'll take good care of them, no matter the cost... Even if it's my own life." Jax said solemnly.

Jax put his bag on, and had his rifle on his back, he was ready to travel out into the treacherous wastes again. Jax looked to his group and said "we've been in this town for too long for my tastes, felt like we've been here for months. I'm not one to sit around town, I prefer to go out into the wasteland and get my job done."

Jax exited the house and sat on the front steps of the house waiting for the group, he was really nervous about going to Pennsylvania, he didn't know what was there. What if it was a state full of raiders, super mutants, or worse...Death claws. Jax remembered his encounter with a death claw back in the metro tunnel with Walker and Daniel. They would've died if they didn't escape and trap the wicked mutant in a old abandoned metro tunnel.

Ah, yes, the time when Walker dislocated his shoulder? Real fun times. Paul smiled at them and waved them off as they exited the building and closed the door behind them. Walker wasn't really that happy, to be honest, but he had his rifle, his armor, his gun, and now he'd eaten, rested, said hi to his father, and gave Daniel some time to rest up and get back on his feet, which he was doing, even if he was walking with a bit of a limp still. He wasn't in agony anymore, nor was he struggling to keep up speed. He'd run if he had to, but obviously, things could be going much worse, and if they needed to, they'd probably have to pick Daniel up if they had to run at any point. Walker was concerned, though, so once they were out on the porch, he looked down at him and sighed for a moment.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay here with dad?" He asked, but Daniel just reached out and took hold of his hand.

"I'm sure... I'm not going to leave you." He said. "I won't be able to sleep properly if I let you go out alone." He said, leaning against him. "I wanna' finish this with you, that way we can have clean water and animals and stuff." He smiled simply, and with that, Walker looked at Jax and Ivan and nodded a few times.

"Okay, let's go." He said, stepping off of the porch before pointing towards the North gate of the town. "If we head out the North way, we'll be able to take some of the old highways to get up to Pennsylvania." He said. "It's going to take us a long time, though, probably a few days of travelling, easily." He said. "That doesn't include stops, so it's going to take us around a week to actually get there." He said. "You wanna' head out? We've got time to stop in one of the stores if you need to, but make sure we've got enough water and all that first, because there might not be any opportunities to get any on the road. Pennsylvania's a bad, bad place." He said.

Jax nodded, "I'm ready now, I don't need anything from the store. Do any of you guys need something? I'm pretty sure I have enough food for us. Whenever you're ready lead the way walker, you are the one who knows how to get there after all"

Jax looked around the town for the last time, he remembered the girl who he met at the town, he liked her a bit, but he decided it's for both his and her best interests to just leave town without saying anything to her. Jax lived dangerously, doing mercenary work in the wasteland, everyday fighting ghouls, raiders, and other terrors of the wastes. He knows that he'll most likely die out there at some point in time. He's accepted that he won't grow old and start a family in this terrible wasteland world. He didn't want that girl to become attached to him, he didn't want the two boys to be attached to him either because he doesn't want then to be saddened when he goes. The boys want him to live at the town with them, Jax always says something along the lines of "I'll think about it" but he knows that he won't... That he can't just sit in some town and rot away.

"I know most of the way there, yeah. We just follow the highway. Some of the signs are okay still, so we can still get there." He said, leading them out of the town and onto the broken and decrepit road that lead onward. He looked back into the town one last time and sighed gently to himself. He didn't want to leave, but he was. He was leaving right away before they could get attached to anyone again. He just hoped that their father was going to be okay. He didn't want to have anything happen to them so that he had to suffer. He was a good man. Why would he deserve that? He'd taken them in and raised them as his own. Eight years and counting. It didn't need to change or stop anytime soon.

As they were walking down the road, Walker was looking rather glum. "We'll stop once the sun sets. There should be a small town not far from here. It's abandoned, but it's safe. I know that for a fact. It's five or six hours down the road, though, so we're going to need to either walk all day and stop for fifteen minutes here and there, or keep going and eat and drink while moving. The sun kills you a lot quicker than you might realize out here. How I survived when I was just a little boy, I don't know. It was a miracle waiting to happen, but over the years, the heat has only gotten worse." He explained. "If we don't drink, we die, to put it lightly." He explained.

"I'm not sure you understand the urgency of our situation exactly. The enclave is trying their hardest to stop project purity, and they have god damned vertiberds! If they know about the vault core in vault 99 at Pennsylvania then we're already fucked and you can say goodbye to clean water for everyone. We don't have anytime to sit around and eat and drink every fifteen minutes. We're also only staying at that town for the night then we're walking all day tomorrow aswell!" Jax explained.

A few minutes after saying all that, while walking Jax said "sorry I was hostile back there, when I said all that stuff. After awhile the wastes start eating at you, ya know?"

As the group walked in the hot sun through the barren and dry wasteland Jax looked around the area, observing his surroundings. He couldn't see any people, mutants, or animals anywhere in sight. The wasteland was eerily quiet, no sounds other then the wind rustling and the groups footsteps. Jax looked up at the sky, the sky was a greenish color, what you'd expect it look like after the nukes ravaged the world and it's atmosphere oh so long ago.

He held up a hand, indicating for him to shut up. "Apology accepted. If you want to walk all day and die of dehydration, be my guest, but I'm going to be stopping to drink water at least." He said. Then he sighed and shook his head, "There's no point arguing among ourselves." He said. "The Enclave can just get fucked, they'll be fine. They won't know about this place just yet, surely to god. They'll be busy tearing places up in the rest of the country." He said, sighing once. "We just get in, get out, and then how many more cores will we need? Two, right? I think it's two." He said, nodding.

Ivan sighed, "They have a record of all of the vaults and their locations. Some of them were sealed off still, because simply, well, there was too much going on around them that it was unsafe for even us to enter them." He said. "We need to make stops, like Walker said, especially seeing as we have Daniel with us. It'd be too risky to walk all day with someone as young as him on our side - He'd be most likely to fall to dehydration if we didn't treat it correctly." He said.
