Fantasy [Private] El Stories

"Something the matter?" Xavier questioned when he heard her groan. "I mean...you do have a spare change of clothes, right? If you want to change already then I'll just give you privacy. Or you want to find a private room in Elder and change in there?" He waited for a response, kicking a pebble near him. He remembered how they shop for potions and clothes, but Xavier hadn't really got a chance to see what Rain picked out for clothing. It couldn't possibly be that bad.

The chains put more strength on her, Samael wasn't happy at all.

"My past, you say?" His eyes took gleamed with a menacing blue. "Then how about you start from the begin-!" Suddenly, his head started to pound incredibly. "Ah! AH! GAH!" The chains surrounding her let her go in a haste and hovered near him. Clinking apprehensively to try and understand what is wrong.

"W-what did you do to me!?" He yelled as his body started to burn up from inside. "T-t-to u-us? Why am I saying us!? Who are you!? Who are they!?" He tried to make head or tails on why he was feeling so much pain right now.

He ran blindly towards walls, smacking against objects while trying to do something at all, anything to put the pain to rest. Even if it meant self inflicted upon himself.

Chance!

The second the chains released her, the dark elf ran out of the room and up the stairs, bursting onto the top deck.

"Why hello, gentleman! Don't mind me, I just need a bit of fresh air. Have a nice day!"

As she sprouted out random sentences to distract the two people on the deck, she ran toward the side of the ship, thinking to make a quick escape. But before she could leap off the ship, she suddenly collapsed in pain as she clutched her chest.

"Why you... Rena... Don't you dare break our contract!"

In a flash, the spasms stopped and the elf laid motionless on the floor. A few seconds passed in silence before she calmly stood. Her hair and eyes had returned to their normal colors, green and yellow.

"I am not breaking our contract. I have given you my body and will but you did not keep up your end of the bargain. You did not protect the people I care about, so I am reclaiming my body!"

The elf gave an apologetic smile to the two on-lookers as she ran back downstairs. The boy was still running around, destroying everything in the room as he yelled in agony. Without warning, Rena pulled the boy into a hug.

"Calm down, Dust. Calm down. It's me. No one is going to hurt you. I'm here."

Rain
"What an innocent child for sure~"

"Sometimes, I wish you were just a power-hungry monster..."

"Rain, that's rude. I'm here to make your life more successful."

Rain continues to be annoyed at her other self. The sound of gunshots pops her ears, and her attention turns to the source: the elf from before.

"Oh, the elf. Thank you for giving us some space. Are you hunting for food?"

She decides to leave out her question of whether or not he was the one to disrupt her slumber.

"Well, I won't be able to answer that question without revealing some of my past," he said. Would it hurt to answer? Some part of him wanted his brother to realise who he is, but...would it stop Add from trying to go back to the past? Perhaps...he could try. "I also came from 300 years ago. Back when Nasods were somewhat still being built, but after the Nasod War."

He paused. "A woman taught me."

"I was about to..." Ren turned to answer the strange woman. "But then I heard you talking with your friend." Ren nodded at the dragon boy that was with her.

"Name's Steele by the way," Ren added. "At least it's the one I want you to know."

He continued packing the rest of his gear, including his FEAR and his Lord Knight's sword. He took one last look at the sleeping girl, annoyed that Airi was still snoozing away. Ren stood still, thinking about rolling her off the sleeping bag and just leaving there.

"Hm. Xavier," he stated his name, glancing at Steele's sword. For a second, it looked familiar to him but he didn't stare long at it. Komodo hissed low at the elf and stayed close to Xavier's leg. Xavier looked over at a sleeping body and perked up an eyebrow. "She seems to be enjoying her sleep.."

"GAH! AAHH!" He tried to claw himself out before his quick breathing started to pace down. "I... I... Who even are you?" He asked towards the elf.

"What? Are you sure I should? But didn't you said-"

*Clink*

"...Fine. I'll do as you say. Follow me elf, this time without being strangled." He gestured her back to the guards room. "Wait a moment, I need to grab some medical supplies." He then reached his sack bag and took a few bandages. Taking his old ones off, the charred flesh on his hands were now on contact of the air. True scars of a person that was meant to die by burning, and the certification of a ghost. "Start talking about who you are. And how do you know me."

Hearing the date, he almost let go of the steering wheel, he turned around with a shocked look at the disciple.

"300 years ago..! And you said a woman taught you?" He let go and ordered two dynamos to steer it. "...No... Don't tell me, could you be..." He nearly wanted to believe it, he wanted to accept it. Proof that somebody else lived, someone that he lived together. "Only one woman took Nasods to heart and taught us. What's your name? And don't give me that Oblivio crap, that isn't your real name, is it?"

"..." For a moment, he was silent. He was never good at coming up with lies, and surely his brother would see through it. Ah, he really messed up, didn't he? "It was an alias Hennon gave me after I spent 300 years in the Void. My real name...is Carna, Carna Grenore."

Rain
"My name is Rain. Nice to meet you."

She had an itching feeling that he really was the one to disrupt her sleep.

"Did...you happen to throw something in the lake last night? I was slightly bothered by the shifting of the water and someone stepping on me..."

Rain eyes the Lord Knight sword again, and she couldn't stop her other self from questioning him.

"Can you tell me where you get that sword? Do you know the owner?"

Late Late LegenDarius LegenDarius

"One question at a time, ma'am. And nice to meet you," Ren politely required.

"I was fishing here last night. With no fishing rod or spear, the best I could do was going blast fishing with some grenades I had on hand," Ren calmly explained. "Why would that bother you? Most of the sound should've been suppressed by the water. As for someone stepping on you, it wasn't me."

Ren looked down at the still sleeping girl. "...Maybe it was her."

Ren looked back at the woman questioning him, and his lime green eyes stared into her purple ones. "About my sword... Why do you ask? Is it significant to you?"

"...the sword...the sword..!!"

Xavier suddenly felt a force in his body, as if someone just pushed him forward. He nearly lost his balance because of it and let out a couple of coughs, puffs of smoke coming out of the coughs.

'Take it easy, will you?!' Xavier mentally yelled, not realizing that Perkisas woken up.

"The damn sword...I can't believe I can't remember the damn name of the user!"

Xavier steadied himself as he can feel the beast's rage building up. It was a bit frightening since his heart beat sped up but after a few seconds, it died down. He tried to shake it off as it was nothing, glad that Perkisas managed to calm himself down. Though he was now bothered about the sword.

Ren stared incredulously as the boy started coughing smoke, as soon as he mentioned his sword. His eyes narrowed. There's something going on here... Maybe this sword has more to it than I had initially thought...

"Are... Are you okay?" He asked the coughing boy. But even as he said that he became much more guarded about his sword, holstering it tight against his back.

Rena let out a breath of relief when boy stopped struggling. She made sure she hid her wounded hands behind her back as she took a step back to give him space to reapply his bandages. The scars on his body made her frown as she held herself back from any actions that would deem her suspicious. Taking a deep breath, she began her story.

"My name is Rena. I was born in the forest of the elves. My parents died when I was young so I was taken in by a close relative of my mother. My relatives treated me like their own daughter and didn't discriminate me from their actual child, a boy who I came to love and respect as my brother. At first, he rejected me at first but as we spent more time together, he eventually began to accept me, even though he never openly admitted it."

She had a strained smile as she looked at the floor. Memories of her happy childhood flooded through her mind.

"Can you guess who the boy is?"

She was afraid to look up. Her legs shook as she stared at the ground, preparing herself for his answer. How would he react? Did her story trigger his memory? Would he want revenge when he remembers the terrible thing she did? Yes, she was the one to destroy their paradise. It was only natural for him to despise her. If he wanted her dead, she was willing to die.

"Her story checks out?" He asked a little incredulous.

*Clink*

Hearing a reply, he put his hands together and thought very carefully. Nothing came up, but maybe it was him trying to not remember any more pain. But would mean looking away to the supposed people that took care of him.

"So you're saying that I'm your brother right?" He asked, not triggered at all. "Sorry to stop your parade, but I'm not remembering nothing. Maybe it's better that way, I've stopped looking to the past a long time ago, Rena." He finished rolling both hands and scarred feet into freshly new bandages. "Samael checked out your story, he was there after all. So I won't deny that story of yours. I've just got one last question. Where were you? When I woke up, I only saw two burned up bodies and no trace of yours, no matter how many times I tried to feel the area. Tell me what happened."

It was if time had stopped altogether as Edward heard those words, the name that he so wanted to hear again. Without even saying a single syllable, he embraced Carna in a tight hug. Letting some fleeting tears fall down.

"I've missed you... So much, brother. I thought... I... I've got no words to say!" He said while hugging his long, lost brother for the first time.

She closed her eyes as the sun set, feeling the rare sensation of sleep gain her mind. Once again, she was in the world of darkness she was accustomed to know back when the spell controlled her mind. This time however, she felt no need to escape it, the void around her had something about it that made her calm. A faint sound began to ring in the distance.

It was a voice. A man's.

"Like... a pebble that one tosses in a living, swirling stream; And the thousand circles spreading on the water as it flows. Like the circle path that’s followed by the hours without end; Like the journey ’round the world of a sunflower in bloom..."

Lara cried as she heard the words of that poem, the last poem that he sung for her. His silhouette became clearer as his tenor voice carried the song.

"Like a skein of yarn unraveled by the small hands of a child, or the words to an old favourite on the soft harps of the wind; like the snow caught in a whirlwind, like the seagulls’ wheeling flight..."

There he was again in front of her. How could she forget his silky silver hair or the warmness of his eyes? After all this time, she still wanted him by her side. The man stopped his song as he approached her, lifting gently her face and wiping softly her tears. Lara caught his hand in hers and the man smiled warmly before embracing her. She stopped crying, forcing herself to manage to smile as she wrapped her arms around him. He continued the song, but this time, he was speaking, almost whispering it as he loosely got away from her to face her. He held her hand with both of his and continued:

"God remembers what you told me by the flowing stream that day, but the summer has an ending, young birds fall from out their nest. And already, see our footprints growing fainter in the sand..."
Her eyes widened as he saw his image become paler again. What could she do to keep him from dissappearing again? It was enough for her to see him go behind a wall of fire and smoke to save people and never coming back. It was more than enough knowing that she trapped his soul in a shadow creature. That had been her limit. She couldn't take seeing him vanish again in front of her.

"Don't. Don't go. Not now. Not again, please..."
It was but a whisper lost in the wind; it was enough for him to hear. Unlike her previous illusions that didn't interact with her, he answered.
"This is all part of the cycle, dear Lara. Souls don't stay trapped forever, not even yours. We might be apart now, but once the new cycle begins, I swear by all the gods... I'll find you..." His voice faded slowly away as the remains of his presence vanished in an orb of light. He had been set free; his soul was at peace. She felt tears itch her eyes but she drowned them before they streamed down her face. His promise was enough for her to let him go freely. It stopped her hand from taking the soul for herself. She smiled as darkness returned, embracing it at its fullest.

A loud crash brought reality to her eyes once again. For an instant, she wasn't sure where she was, but the memories replaced the reverie abruptly. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't passed a moment in a man's room in years. Maybe it was the owner's scent that triggered her visions. Her tears had wet the couch's side pillow and the sting she felt in her eyes made her realize she had most likely wept during her short slumber. She yawned and got up, looking at the sun through her window. It was beautiful to see herself beyond the clouds, but her wonder was very fleeting. She turned around and finished the song in her melodic voice most of her family envied.

"Like the songs that pass away upon being forgot; And the early autumn leaves encountering skies of lesser blue; are now painted,by your absence, in the colours of your hair; with each changing season's winds you set spinning by your name... all the windmills of my heart."

Rena felt like she was on a roller coaster. Every small movement from the boy changed her mood from fear to anticipation to relief to distress and finally settled on reluctance. She knew that the question was coming. She knew she couldn't avoid keeping it hidden forever.
A small part of her had been glad that her brother had lost his memory because then, he would have forgotten the tragedy that had happened, and how she was at the center of everything. Her body trembled visibly as she opened and closed her mouth, unable to find her voice. She squeezed her eyes shut and opened her mouth for the last time.

He doesn't need to know. He was in pain when he tried to remember. He doesn't need to know.

"Everything was my fault. That's all that you need to know."

Who am I kidding... I'm such a selfish person. I don't want him to hate me so I stop myself from telling him.

I don't understand why you're so reluctant to tell him the truth. This'll drag on till morning if I leave it to you. If you can't do it, I will.

Wait, no, don't-

Rena's eyes flew open, revealing dark purple irises.

"I'll tell you what happened since miss forest elf here is too scared to do so. That headache from before, however, may come back ten times worse once you know the truth. Do you still want to hear the rest of the story?"

Rain
"I-I see..."

Choosing to drop her first question, Rain then jumps onto his question with the sword.

"I know a friend who wields that sword. I was wondering if he gave it to you, or if you found it somewhere..."

The sight of smoke catches her eye, and Rain gasps as Xavier starts to wheeze.

"X-Xavier?!"

It was gone just as fast it came, but he still had trouble breathing normally.

"It must be that Perkisas that he was talking about."

"If this is the reaction that only the sword's appearance triggers, what would happen when we say Elsword's name?"

"Keep quiet about it then."

Late Late LegenDarius LegenDarius

He frowned as her dark temptation came back. Of course he would accept her word in an instant, but part of him something more than the truth.

"I do want to hear the rest of the story, but from her mouth, not yours. And let me warn you, miss corruption, Samael will absorb you, if you keep popping up. Either Rena tells me herself, or no deal." He made his point and waited for 'his' sister to speak again. He needed to hear from her voice and no one else.

"Yeah, I'm sure." He gave confirmation before waiting for a reply.

"I picked it up from a job ages ago," Ren answered. "It was from one of the elite Lord Knights that were guarding a sex-trafficking ring among the higher ups in Velder. It was all over the news years ago. I was part of the bust."

Ren paused, recalling the memories he'd made that day. Breaking into a well-secured government building and fighting some of the best warriors in all of Elrios. He danced dangerously close with Death that day. But ironically, nothing had ever made him feel more alive.

"Elsha was her name," Ren stated, referring to the original owner of the red blade. "She nearly killed me. If it wasn't for the Nanoparticle Serum I had with me, I definitely would've died. She turned her back when she struck me down. All I could do was wait as she hacked away at my teammates. I had gotten to know some of them, they were a nice bunch. They didn't deserve what they got. But mercs like me know not to get too attached to anyone. Just a sad reality.

Anyways, the regeneration finished and I got to my feet. Slowly, so that no one would notice. I crept up behind her, charging the burst in my rifle. I placed the barrel on her back and blew a hole in her chest. Taste of her own medicine. With her gone, reinforcements came and cleaned up the rest. And that's the story of this little beauty,"
finished Ren, tapping the sword on his back.

"Any more questions?"

"Hmph, suit yourself. I was just trying to speed things up a little cause I was getting sick of this family talk."

Rena closed her eyes again and re-opened them. Her eyes were back to yellow.

"I'm sorry about that... Although I was able to return to myself temporarily, I did give her my will so she is still able to control my body."

She paused to prepare herself for the continuation.

"If you really want to know, then I'll continue. The burned bodies beside you were most likely... your parents. The reason why I wasn't by your side... was because I was a forest elf and you were a dark elf. In the village of elves, anything with a drop of corruption was immediately exorcised. As you know, the blood of the ancient dark elves runs in you. You are different from me, who only turns into a dark elf due to corruption. You are originally a dark elf."

As she spoke, Rena felt her body relax. All the pent up regret, self-loathing, and depression flowed out with her words.

"This secret was guarded closely by your parents. Although your father was a dark elf, he wished to live peacefully with his wife, a forest elf, so they hid the fact that he was dark elf and started a family in the village. When your parents adopted me, they told me their secret and told me to never tell anyone. I accidentally blurted it out when playing with a few kids. An adult passing by heard me and it wasn't long before word reached the elders' ears. Your parents and you were immediately exiled. I was forced to remain in the village to be 'purified' from contact with dark energy."

She began to fidget around nervously, glancing at the wall, floor, ceiling. She couldn't look at his face.

"Your kind-hearted parents did not blame the villagers for their banishment and moved to the edge of the forest. Not understanding why I was suddenly forced to live separately from my new family, I snuck out of the village and ran away to find you guys. The villagers blamed your family for my actions, claiming that I had been influenced by you. It was their excuse to kill off your family under the disguise of saving of a young forest elf from corruption. I didn't learn about their plan until I saw smoke rising up from the edge of the forest. By the time I got there, the fire had already encased the entire house. I was knocked out when I tried to run into the burning cottage and brought back to the village. When I woke up, everything had been burned to the ground. They couldn't fully erase my memories of you and your family so they used a spell to hide them in the back of my mind. Seeing you again in Ruben broke the spell and I remembered everything. I've shared all that I know."

She held her breath as she waited for the boy's response.

"I see...it seems that I was mistaken."

Rain gave an audible sigh of relief. So it wasn't Elsword who Steele had taken it from.

"We really can't...rely on our memories, can we?"

"Actually, I only have one more question. Do you know anything about dimension traveling or anyone related to Henrir?"

It really was a stretch. While the elf is a mercenary, he has worked with tons of people in the past. One of them must know how to access her world. Rain stares back at the sleeping girl. She seemed young, even childish as she sleeps, but as experience has taught her, not everything is what it seems.

Airi woke up inside a very comfy sleeping bag. She was sure that she slept on Steele's lap...

Rubbing her eyes, she spotted Steele along with the healer girl and the dragon boy. They seemed to be talking about something... Or someone.

Airi got up and bounced towards the small group. She stood beside Steele and smiled.

"Ello~ I'm Airi. Nice to meet you~ Who are you?"

Xavier waved his hand to get rid of the smoke around him, frowning.

"Sorry, just having a...panic attack," Xavier said to Steele.

It was probably the best way to describe it. Though after hearing where Steele got the sword from, confusion settled in. He even heard Perkisas mumbling to himself as if he tried to recall back the memory. Komodo nudged his leg to be sure he was fine and Xavier gently patted his snout. Xavier looked back up when the girl finally woke up from her sleep.

"Oh, hello," Xavier mumbled, still letting out a couple of coughs before he can try to get a steady breathing.

He was almost shocked at the show of affection. He was sure he dirtied the name of Grenore, or being a human enough to sully relations. He had destroyed it, dirtied it, pissed on it, devoured it, killed it, so fucking much that it shouldn't even be there. He was falling, and he was falling fast, but he thought that the one person he tried so desperately to save in the past, would be the one to let him go. Let him fall into the abyss he deserved to die in.

He couldn't understand. Why? Why? He had scarred the relation between him and his brother so much, damaged it beyond repair--but here it was. In one piece. He started to shake.
