Fantasy [Private] El Stories

Oblivio

"Why would you want to go back in time?" he asked first. Something must've happened. His father abandoned him to the streets when he himself tried to save his older brother. Not like he could. How could a child save anyone? He tried stopping the experiments, only to make it worse and ended up getting beaten to a pulp in front of Ed...

"You shouldn't be asking me that when you're the one injured!"

Rena brushed aside Ash's hand and instead, grabbed his good arm and forcibly turned his body so that his injured arm faced her. She rummaged around in her bag for bandages.

You know how real life battles are fought, don't you, Rena? Every injury could mean all the difference in the world for whether or not a soldier will live. How are you going to take responsibility if he dies, huh?

She froze in her search. Her back was to Ash so he did not see the expression she wore. If he did, perhaps he would have know what was going on in her mind. She made eye contact with Rain, who had ran over to them and healed them almost effortlessly. The bandages fell back to the bottom of her bag.

Ha, look at that! Even the little girl is more useful than you! You should just stand back and watch how your little friends all die protecting a weakling like you!

Rena laughed softly under her breath. It was a laugh of ridicule. She was laughing at herself.

Weak. I know I'm weak. Ever since I met these kids, I knew I was weak. I wanted to protect them, but they're the ones who end up protecting me.

Her mind flash backed to the events in Ruben, at the top of the Tree of El. She recalled the look she received when she called out to Dust. Dust... her brother. The brother that she had lost years ago. She couldn't do anything except cry as she watched the villagers exile her family. She wasn't even allowed follow them. It wouldn't be a surprise if he hated her for being able to remain in the village while he and their parents were chased out.

"Rain, please take care of Ash's injuries. I'm fine."

She glared at the Nasod. Her behavior now was a great contrast to her usual cheerful attitude. It was also different from her calm focus in battle. Her eyes held a hint of anger in them.

"Awaken!"

A burst of mana came forth from within her, surrounding her in a green light. Before the others could stop her, she rushed forward. Yellow lasers blasted out of the Nasod, which the elf swiftly dodged by cartwheeling multiple times. She landed to the side and dashed forward again, performing a series of quick, consecutive kicks, ending with a wipe to the Nasod's legs, causing it to lose its balance. She finished with a short hop into the air, twisting her legs in a windmill fashion when she landed. Surrounding her legs with the power of wind, she formed a gust of wind around her that knocked the Nasod a few feet back. Knowing that she hadn't done much damage, she quickly hopped back a few steps, breathing hard.

"That was for Ash!"

She was back to her usual self.

"...You've had a family too, didn't you?" He asked him while momentarily stopping his hacking. "Wouldn't you want to save them? If I can harness that power maybe, just maybe, I can save mom and my younger brother. I just hope he didn't suffer too much while I was gone, he always put up a tough act but I knew the truth. I'll do everything that I can to get to them, even if it means tackling the space and time formula."

"....." Did Ed want to save him? When he was abandoned on the streets, that was where the zealots picked him up and so the hellish experience was begun. He was taught to believe in the God of Darkness, that suffering would exist as long as we were all alive. Experimentation became a normal part of life by then...

Nice to know that Lara's hair changes during battle, thought Airi. Also nice to know that the ray of light left nothing but dust on the robot. What a pain in the a**, thought Airi.

Steele released a hail of bullets at the machine while Lara retreated. The bullets seemed to only leave scratches and further annoyed the machine. It started coming closer to the trio.

Sighing, Airi drew her twin knives.

"Divine Block!"

A barrier of golden light surrounded the trio. They'll be safe from most attacks, assuming that the damn machine doesn't have a trump card.

I'll just attack it for now to find its weak spot.

"Dance!" called Airi. She zigzagged to the machine and started slashing it from all sides. She got faster and faster as she strikes the robot. However, no matter how fast or how much strength Airi put into the attacks, it only left a few dents and scratches. Perhaps it would be better to make it stop moving before ending the robot thing.

Seeing that hitting Airi with its arms wouldn't do anything, the robot smashed the earth. The ground beneath them shattered. Debris and rocks fell from the ceiling. Cracks were made on the walls.

Having not seen this attack, Airi was sent flying. She hit a nearby wall before landing on her bottom.

I hate this thing already.

"Its legs! Aim for its legs! Strike one part of it so it's armor can break!" called Airi to her allies. She quickly ate an apple before heading back into battle.

"Heh! Go Rena!" Xavier cheered when she knocked back the nasod. He didn't waste anytime to attack again as well, his fist glowing up for the prepared attack.

"Hashira!"

He slammed his fist to the ground which erupted a pillar of fire before him. It sprouted up, hitting the nasod and giving it a burning effect. There was an energy of a dragon raising up along with the fire as well. The nasod doesn't seem to be too happy about it, firing a laser at Xavier who didn't have enough time to dodge it right. The attack managed to hit his shoulder, causing him to stumble back. He felt angry at that, especially when he felt a cool breeze sweeping by his shoulder.

Xavier went right back to attacking, trying to give cover for Rain as she healed up Ash. Every attack he does often shows the energy of a dragon attacking as well, as if it was boosting up his attacks. He was rather doing a great job to keep the nasod distracted on him.

Ash
Ash looked at Rain as she healed him, he couldn't but stare, thanks to his helmet she wouldn't notice but Ash was truly admiring her. "Ash you barely know the girl, she'll cause nothing but trouble." Ares said, but Ash just shaked his head, "It's fine Ares, I know what I'm getting myself into." Ash stood up, "Thank you doll but I'll be alright, the thought was enough. Also thank you Rena for covering us." Ash channeled his mana to try and reform his broken armor but it was no use. "Dammit." Ash decided to just switch his shield over to his unarmored arm making sure none of his teammates could see it. "Let's find these Nasods, there too fast to see in the darkness." What Ash didn't know but Ares did was that without being able to regenerate his armor completely Ash's armor will slowly become soft, that's the opening Ash's inner berserker will take it's chance to finally reveal itself. "Only if Ash had more time to mature his new body."

As Xavier busied himself with the Nasod that had attacked them, Rena quickly grabbed a mana potion from her bag and drank it. The cool liquid refreshed her and she could feel her mana returning. Her ears twitched and she leaped backwards, narrowing avoiding a laser that came from the darkness.

So there wasn't just one...

She closed her eyes and listened to the grinding gears. One... two... three... there were at least four Nasods roaming around near them. Taking a deep breath she took aim at an area between the largest group that she sensed. A sigil appeared in front of her bow as she created a powerful arrow surrounded by a bright light

"I hear at least four Nasods in the room! My arrow will only temporarily light up the the area it flies past! Use that chance to pinpoint where our opponents are!"

She released it and it streaked toward the darkness.

"Rail Stinger!"

Ash
Ash was getting ready to throw his spear when it hit him. *Thump Thump* There it goes again, the feeling Ash felt earlier, it was slowly becoming a trigger for his berserker state. "Ash someone shifted the balance of war. Your body wasn't ready for this, not this early." Ares said. The energy flowing through Ash began to spark a reddish aura around him, "Dammit...I'll just have to use this demonic power to my advantage." Ash said as he channeled his mana flow. Ares inside of him was shocked by Ash's sudden action, "Ash, this level of power will trigger the Mad God inside of you. Are you trying to become berserk in this life again?" Ares said, "Don't worry Ares, I'll manage to control my hunger." Red sparks flew around, "Till all are one. Transcendence Berserker." The voices of Ash and Ares became one as Ash looked around seeing the nasods. "Lunatic Fury LvL 2." Running ahead into the Nasods Ash slammed his shield and sword into the ground causing it to shatter all over with ripples of red aura bursting through the cracks a fire hotter than that of a dragon burnt those that Ash didn't see as an ally. Two Gigantic Nasods in the area melted by it's extreme heat to a light extent, "Ash you only got 2 of them, the other two are farther back in the room, they seem larger, reinforcements are also on the way same models but about the same grunts as before." Ash chuckled as the appearance of his armor changed to that of the demonic one he used in the forest, he made his way to the Nasods coming out from the other room.

Rain
Slowly, she floats down to Ash's side. Rena had already left her healing circle, but Ash still looks beaten up. He shifts his shield to his other arm and winces. He attempts to reassure her that he's fine, even going so far as to use that rather infuriating word, but she wouldn't have it.

"Ash, you're in bad condition right now. Stay back for a bit and let us light the room first-!"

She watches, gasping, as Ash starts to glow red. When Rena shoots her arrow, Rain sees the four nasods that she had been shouting about. It hits one of them, allowing the group to see one more. His next words came out mixed with Ares's, and he slams both of his weapons down to scorch the other two nasods in the room. His armor was that of the one he used against Rena...

"No way...is he in control of himself?!"

"I hope he is. Ares might hold it back for a while, but still-!"

"In that case...! Rena, I'll help you! Let's take these two out!"

"The faster we beat these, the less time Ash has to spend in that armor! If only my abilities weren't locked away!"

"Awaken!"

Being reunited with the warm, soothing power gives Rain even more confidence. She lets her body glow a bright yellow light as she sings her song of the ocean.

"Luminescence..."

"Duet time?"

"Yes, let's go."

Gliding over to Rena, her body provides the elf with the light she needs to fully register the enemies. Her other self takes over first as she starts her part of the song. She sang of dreams that have not come yet and protecting what's beautiful. Her voice is dark, but with a certain allure to it. As she did, the daggers she got from Ash starts to glow, and she jumps up, summoning a wave of water. It crashes into one of the Nasods, and it stumbles backwards.

Her shyer self reclaims her body, and she continues by singing of the sky and water of the Earth that creates a rainbow. Unlike her counterpart, her voice is more innocent and softer. She questions how far someone's voice will break through as she flicks her smaller daggers into the weak spots of the nasod. As they reach the chorus, her teammates can hear two voices harmonizing with each other.

"We have just fallen in love
With the light of the blue Earth
That we longed to live on
We sing these arias
For the sake of just that one future
We will take off
Towards the black of the night sky."

"Okay!"

Rena shoots another light arrow into the darkness as Rain hurries over to her position. It didn't hit anything but she was only aiming to see the positions of the remaining Nasods. She could feel her awakening about to run out so she threw all of her mana into forming one strong arrow. The tip began to shine brightly as Rain's support helped strengthen the attack power. A small spark formed and grew until it took on the form of a phoenix.

"Phoenix Strike!"

The phoenix let out a screech as it flew toward the Nasod hit by Rain, piercing it through its chest. The heat from the wound spread and burned the circuits holding the Nasod together. With a loud crash, it fell to the ground.

"Xavier, get the other one!"

Ash
Time felt slower for Ash, his mind was becoming one with Ares like in his previous life. "Ash it's happening. This will the last time we'll talk to one another in this life like this. I'll be in the Astral Plain when you need me." Ash took a deep breath as his body surged with power, the codex of the ancient greek wrote themselves on him, but so much of it was a mystery to him still. "Still placing barriers like always Ares." Ash grabbed his sheathed Katanas, he could feel the limit of this state, the art of a blade dancer ran through his mind as Ash spung his katanas in a circular motion, crosses, zig zags, he slashed through 2 nasod grunts, then another. He began to feel his mana depleting as he threw his katana at the ladt teo grunts just to immobilize. He sat down in a corner, his armor vanishing. Ash took deep breaths as he removed his hat, brushing his hair turned black back revealing his golden eyes for once. "I'll just let you guys finish that big one, then you guys go on ahead to the Inspector..." Ash took out a mana potion, enjoyed it as if he had no worry in the world.

"You got it." Xavier was able to spot the last standing nasod thanks to Rena's attack that lit up the room further ahead. He ran right over and dodged away another laser attack going at his way. He slid around it, letting the gloves touch the ground and the fire caught onto the nasod who started to turn to face Xavier. Though it was late as Xavier raised up his hands to use up the last of his energy.

"Drak Storm!"

A large pillar of fire erupted around Xavier and the force of the fire practically lifted up the nasod, was hit repeatedly by the fiery hurricane. The intense heat caused the nasod to break down, sparks were flying around. The attack ended with the pillar of fire forming into blazing dragon who roared and slammed down the nasod back to the ground as its flames engulfed around it. The time the fire died down, the nasod was completely scorched and unresponsive, letting out couple of twitches before laying limp.

"Alright all clear.." There was a strange glint in Xavier's eyes as he watched the fire burn out though it was gone once his awakening mode was up. That was when he felt a stinging sensation crawling up on him, making him shiver though he noticed Komodo was back on his hands, looking up at him. Xavier smiled lightly at the small dragon, letting Komodo climb up to rest in his hoodie.

Xavier went ahead to recover himself up until he felt something off about his shoulder. He looked and noticed the injury he got earlier, his clothes were ragged and ripped around the area. Curiosity got the best of him as he started to poke around the injury, not really minding the blood. "I guess I didn't felt it before in awakening," he mumbled to himself, ignoring the pain.

Rain
Finally...finally it was over.

Rain sees Xavier strike down the last nasod with the fury of a blazing dragon. She struggles to catch her breath, as having two people sing with once voice placed a strain on her throat.

"Good job...everyone. Let me heal your shoulder, Xavier."

Slowly walking over to him, Rain places a hand over his shoulder and quickly hums a nostalgic tone. Water droplets softly lands on his bloody shoulder, slowly reforming his skin. Once she finished, she gives Xavier her gentle smile and goes to check up on Rena.

"Are you alright, Rena? Any wounds I need to take care of still?"

The healer quickly does a once over, noting that Rena is the one that has the less injuries. She reapplies the chant to her sensitive ears in case it wore out.

And now...to Ash...

Speaking of the man, he's in the corner of the room, sipping on a potion. His green hair is gone, replaced by the same black color as it was back in their hotel room. She once again feels drawn to his golden eyes as she hesitantly glides over to him.

"Ash...are you feeling alright? What happened to you?"

She sees that he's in no condition to move, only letting out a dry smile. He tells her to move on without him.

Ash
Ash smiled at Rain and placed his hat on her head, "Take care of that for me will ya?" Ash could feel the burning sensation of the codex, red markings appeared on his arms and legs as they pulsed a dim light. "Agh!" The burning blaze inside his body, the vast knowledge he could feel it flowing into him faster and faster.

Before he knew it Ash could no longer feel the pain. As if it wasn't there at all, his strength slowly returned and then some. He looked down at his hand, it had darkened as the red lines of the codex flashed with a dim light, Ash just chuckled and hugged Rain.
"I'll be alright doll, I just need a minute, or I'll lose this chance."

"Thank you, Rain."

Rena smiled gratefully at the healer and notices that the girl's attention seemed to be elsewhere. She looked at the direction the girl stared at and saw Ash with... she could have sworn that the man had green hair. The man lying on the ground a few feet away had the same appearance as Ash, minus the fact that his hair was black and his face bore beautiful golden eyes. She peeked at Rain's expression.

Rain seems to know why he looks like that. This must have something to do with the secret Ash was talking about earlier.

Knowing that Rain was the only one who could help Ash, Rena pulled herself up and decided to check up on Xavier. She stopped her movements when Ash suddenly shouted out and relaxed when he seemed to still be energetic. She reached Xavier and stood in front of him awkwardly, wondering if she should sit down beside him.

"How's your shoulder?"

Rain
Rain touches his hat gingerly. What was he thinking? She feels the worn rim under her fingers as she adjusts it to fit over her head more, as her bun got in the way. She gasps when red runes line his arms and legs.

"Don't do anything. It could be disastrous if it affects him negatively."

The dancer hesitantly nods and continues to watch over him as he grits his teeth. Then just as fast as it comes, the runes dim, and she finds herself drawn into his arms.

"A-Ash?!"

"Haha, caught off guard again, my dear."

She slowly returns his embrace, feeling a blush slowly form on her face.

"Your eyes...they're so pretty..." she finds herself whispering in his ear.

In her mind, the other Rain heaves a lonely sigh.

"They are pretty...just like your sword...Rui..."

NinthSomnus9029 NinthSomnus9029

Xavier looked up at Rena, offering a small smile. "Shoulder is fine. Rain does have amazing healing powers, I'll give her that," Xavier said to her, feeling better than he can rest up. He glanced over at Ash and Rain, letting out a small sigh. "Both are pretty reliable... shame that I still don't trust them well enough," he grumbled. Besides that, he felt...off. Like there was something there he didn't notice before. Something inside of him, yet he did his best to not pay too much attention about it. "How you're holding up, Rena?" There was some concern in his voice.

"A barrier...Impressive." Lara thought as her senses concentrated back into battle. A giant rat snuck from the side and ran towards them. Enhancing her movement speed allowed her to deal a rain of quick blows to it, the blood of the beast was slowly absorbed by the blade and the poison of its claws changed the glow to a faint green.

A guard fired a poisoned arrow to her shoulder. The wound brought a brief stinging pain before she gave the guard a taste of his own medicine as she leapt behind him and slashed his head off. A volley of fire arrows followed, leaving her enough time to duck behind the small stone wall in front of her. Her blade transformed to her need for vital energy and, after Lara took the arrow out, her rapier absorbed the corpse's blood and transformed it into a beneficial mana flow that cleansed the poison out of her body.

She looked at the blade as a heavy armoured guard swung a mace at her. She dodged it easily and extended her sword's scabbard to make the guard trip. The momentum of his swing was, however, more than enough to make him fall to the ground once his hit missed. The hit had simply delayed his rise and gave her enough time to drive her blade through the steel mail that covered the man's neck. Now covered with blood, the rapier's metal took a darker shade and the aura around it disappeared. The Priestess smirked as other archers and swordsman charged at her. Looking at her comrades, she realized the Nasod had called in more company.

"I'll distract them here." She yelled as she leapt towards the guards and, driven by her inhuman speed, sliced their weapons, throats and sometimes other limbs off until there was nothing but an unrecognizable pile of flesh and armour over a puddle of blood. Among the broken points of arrows, some of them still had the remains of the fire spell that had ignited them. Naturally, the blade took the new attribute and healed its wielder's wounds by absorbing the blood of its victims.

It was easier this time around, she felt more powerful than ever before, the combat was no longer for her a source of fear or worry. On the contrary, her emotions had simply shut down as she dashed towards the other side of the room and left nothing but death behind her path.

"Now's the chance. Let's bring that walking tin can down." She stated as she returned towards her comrades' side. At that moment, she sensed the presence of the Inspector up ahead and of other guards coming towards them.

"Let's end this quickly. There's more of them coming up and our main objective is right in the next room."

Rena hesitated before answering.

"I'm fine. I'm always the one being protected so I have the least injuries. Sometimes I wish it's the other way around."

She laughed sheepishly, putting her hand behind her neck out of habit. At the corner of her eye, she took careful note of Rain's and Ash's location, in case they needed help.

"How's your pet?"

"Tired. I guess its been awhile since we went into awakening. I feel like he'll be good to go in a couple of minutes or so. And hey, there's nothing wrong for being protected. It kinda shows how much we value you, Rena," Xavier said as Komodo starting to appear out of his hoodie, grumbling low. "I mean...eh...never mind. Mind me, I am not so good at cheering people up." Xavier went ahead to grab out a water bottle to drink from. Komodo perked up at Rena and let out a small growl in greetings, tilting his head slightly at her.

Ash
Ash leaned in and whispered into Rains ear, "Thank you, but I believe your dancing is much more beautiful." Ash moves back as he closes his eyes, "I finally can use Nasod technology mixed with a little bit of hamel's makes it just the same as my past life." Ash could feel, imagine the armor within him. "...but I can use it only for 10 minutes. That's enough I guess." Ash new how much stamina this ability would cost him but it not until he sees the inspector himself he wouldn't resort to it. "Also other Rain, I hope you know your also beautiful yourself. They do say it's the inside that counts." Ash was blushing faintly but with each passing moment he feels as if these words can just slip out of his mouth easily. Ash tried to stand up by himself but his arm was still in a pretty bad shape.

"It's a good thing that we're resting right now then. Oh, hello there."

Rena stretched her hand forward slowly, as to not scare the lizard, and softly patted him on the head as she drifted back into her thoughts.

She was raised in the village as an archer so she wondered why it felt so natural for her to kick with her legs instead of using her bow. When she had gotten angry at the Nasod for hurting Ash, her body moved on its own. This had never happened before and it puzzled her. In addition, it was obvious that her arrows were a lot stronger than her kicks, yet she felt that with some practice, her legs may prove to be a better choice of attack.

At the very least, I won't be in a disadvantage in close range, like before...

Hearing Airi's orders, he turned the knob on his rifle and pulled back the bolt. All of a sudden, an explosion of El energy came rushing out of the battery and into the chamber. The riffle notches on the side of the rifle began to glow, and sparks jumped to and fro on the front rail.

Peering down the tracker sight, Ren aimed at the Nasod's leg. A beam of light burst out of the rifle and punched clean through the armored limb. The iron beast tumbled to one knee. Seeing that it was vulnerable, Ren aimed at the Nasod's head and pulled the trigger. Instantly the robot's head exploded, and its gargantuan body fell with a great crash. Sparks flew from its neck like fireworks, before dying out completely.

Ren looked over and saw that Lara had already taken care of the other enemies headed their way. Seeing that, he got up and jogged in her direction. As he was jogging, he pulled the bolt back on his rifle, and out came a gigantic shell the size of a long soda can. The shell dropped to the ground with a loud clang, and the rifle seemed to die as its whirring stopped. Ren replaced the shell with a new one. The new shell had bright runes on it, and Ren could feel the intense mana radiating from it. He placed the shell into the chamber and slammed the bolt into place. Instantly the rifle came back to life, whirring and sparking as it had before.

"Now's the chance. Let's bring that walking tin can down," Lara said.

"I'm right behind you," Ren said to her assuredly.

Airi made a mental note to never mess with Steele or Lara. Their powers could easily obliterate the earth into tiny pieces.

"Judgement of the Ten Kings!"

Golden light exploded from Airi, obliterating nearby enemies. Did it kill the machine? Airi wasn't sure as she collapsed headfirst onto the ground. The slam against the wall must have dealt more damage than she had thought....
