Pax Pardus Hale

The Ink Shop
When puberty hits every teenager worries about their voice changing, how much acne will they get, when will hit their growth spurt, body hair, and so much more. 30 years ago a chemical called Ambrosia was released into the food and water supply by terrorists. It didn't seem like anything was wrong, everyone was tested. Nothing seemed wrong with the kids until they hit puberty. 98% of children died, the remaining 2% possessing powers they didn't have before. The children were now known as "Special", and the special ones were separated from their families and brought to facilities to keep them contained. They were given a test once they arrived which categorized them, telling them where they would be stored.

There were 5 categories, and each categorized was ranked on how dangerous their powers are, and what they would be doing in them.

Green was the least dangerous of all the colors, possessing heightened intelligence such as photographic memory, increased problem solving abilities, and a heightened talent for technology. The greens did manual labor and made uniforms for the facilities. Blue individuals develop telekinetic powers, they worked along with the green ones. Yellow ones were known to be dangerous, they develop electrokinetic powers. They could create, and control electricity. At their facility everything is plastic, and everything is run by candlelight and man power. Orange was the telepathic ones. They could read minds, influence people, alter and erase memories, and change the feelings of others. These orange ones were rumored to go insane, and also rumored to be killed once classified as an orange. Most need to touch peoples to be able to demonstrate their powers. The most dangerous ones were the reds, the pyrokinetic ones. These ones, however, served a different purpose. Most were brainwashed to be soldiers for war.

There was also a sixth color that only the government knows about. One individual showed signs of all the powers, but that individual was said to be a myth.

As time passed by the government learned that this, whatever it was that gave the children powers, became part of their DNA. Any child born possessed a 2% chance to gain powers when they start puberty. Any child that is found to be one of the Specials was to be taken to these facilities immediately. That's where our story will start out.

"Oh fuck you." Aurela flipped off the security officer as he threw Aurela into the track room. It was day four of being a prisoner of the american government. They called her a "red" and locked her away in this facility. She hated every minute of it here. They said that this form of exercise was "going to heal her". There was no healing her, there was no healing any of this. This was part of their DNA, but so many of the specials here believed them. It was sickening and Aurela wasn't going to fall victim to their shit. "Fuck." She scoffed as her pale hands pulled up her dark locks into a loose ponytail, her red sneakers carrying her towards the track.

Everyday in the red dorm went the same way. They got up and went to breakfast, then they were forced to run the indoor track for an hours, then lunch, then target practice, dinner, then class time (or as Aurela calls it, brainwash time). Today she managed to sneak away from the rest of the group as they headed to the track. She just wanted a minute alone outside, but they never got to go outside. Aurela was homeless for two years, everyday was spent outside. Now? She was kept locked up like some animal. Thanks to the harsh winters in Russia she was used to the cold. Everywhere in the building was kept at a chilly 55 since most of the kids couldn't form fire when they were cold. On top of all that, the red building had a sophisticated sprinkler and fire system just in case anyone tried to use their powers. And don't even start her on the outfits they were forced to wear. Red shirts, red jackets, red pants and shorts, and red shoes. Did she mention she hated the color red?

With another groan she started to run the track, already plotting her next escape. Soon she was able to catch up with her 'partner' Ryder. She was sure he was less of a partner and more as a personal babysitter. "Know any good escape routes that aren't guarded by security?" Her bright blue eyes glanced over at him as her eyebrows raised curiously.

Meanwhile in the blue building, Akira found herself with her teacher in the room. She was in her 'monthly meeting', to see how her powers are doing. Usually powers weren't encouraged, but they had a monthly one on one with the blues to monitor their strength. What they could pick up, how long could she hold it for, how high they could pick something up. "Your powers are as strong as ever Akira, maybe even stronger." The older, mid forties woman in a pantsuit marked a few things on her paper as she shook her head. "Work harder, Akira. Maybe we'll see improvements next time." A small frown took over Akira's pretty pink lips as she sat down the large table. With a small nod Akira left the room, her pale hand zipping up her blue hoodie as she walked to the work room.

The workroom for the blues and greens were mostly labor rooms. Sewing uniforms for all the buildings, washing uniforms, folding them, just basic tasks to keep them busy. She never really seen how this would help them lose their powers. But for the last few years she seen peer after peer disappear after their 18th birthday. She never knew if they went home or not, but she never got to see them again. Part of it concerned her, but she also knew it was better to stay quiet than to voice her concerns. Sometimes she could swear she heard their thoughts in her head, but she just assumed that was her imagination and that she was going crazy. Three years here. It was agonizing to know that there was no where for her to go. That if she didn't get better she would be stuck here until she died...

"Hey..." She sat next to Devin and Damon at her station, grabbing one of the ripped yellow sweat pants. It looked like it had got caught in a bike or something. It wasn't the first time she had seen a tear like this, but it always confused her. They didn't have bikes over here. "Did you go to you check up, Devin?" Her brown eyes glanced over at her blue uniformed friend. Akira always liked the twins, they were interesting. Twins, both with powers, and different powers at that.

Liam was getting nervous. His 18th birthday was a few days ago, and everyone he had ever known here for the past 6 years disappeared from the facility sometime after their birthday. It was terrifying. Rumors said that they were killed. All he knew was he didn't want to die. He wanted to tell his grandma he was safe, he wanted to apologize for what he did. He didn't even get to say goodbye to her before he was dragged away and taken to this facility, diagnosing him as a yellow. He dedicated to healing himself, but everyday he feels his powers coursing through him, so he worked that much harder the next day. He was relentless, day to day working harder and faster than any before him. Maybe that's why they kept him, but he didn't want to stick around to find out.

He had gotten up early this morning and started to ride the stationary bike. Everything they had around the yellow building lacked electricity and were either covered in plastic, or plastic. They had battery powered clocks and candle light. The biking created energy to run the showers and give them running water. Before he knew it breakfast time had arrived. He went, had a quiet lunch, and decided he needed a small break from the bike. He needed to find the only person he could talk to around here. Another quiet guy, probably why they got along so well. "Marth," he hurried up and walked over to his giving him a nervous smile. "How are you doing? I have a question. How long do you think I have left here?" His Australian accented voice wavered slightly, signifying how nervous he was about this whole 'just turning 18' thing.

18. Today was Sean's 18th birthday. Most of the time 18 means freedom. In the facilities, it meant fear. Fear for the future, fear of the possibility of no future at all. For Sean? He couldn't focus on the fear. It would eat him alive! So he went around socializing with most of his friends. They all knew it was his 18th birthday today, and they all seemed so...sad. The green uniformed male did his best to push that to the back of his head. No, today wouldn't be spent moping or thinking about his family. He had to get away from all this negativity. After all, he could avoid the thoughts but when he was around people he could hear their thoughts, so he had to get away from the thoughts.

The six foot blonde man made his way to an interesting trio. "Damon, Devin, Akira. Good to see ya. What are you guys up to?" He leaned against their work table and looked around to the each of them. He hoped for some positive thoughts and some positive vibes. He could tell Akira was nervous...the monthly meetings for the blues. It didn't go well. "Cheer up, Akira. There's still time for you to figure something out." If only there was enough time for him. Maybe avoiding these thoughts was easier said than done...

The facility was hell. It always had been and always would be, at least in the minds of the twins. Damon and Devin had been here for years and every day it just got more and more mundane. Same thing day in and day out; wake up, eat, work, eat again, work some more, sleep. The only thing that made it different from a prison was that they had better food... maybe. Today the girls were sitting in their same station and working on the same sewing machines as always.

Devin held a fellow blue's shorts in hand as she repaired the inseam, her shoulders hunched and blue-green eyes glossy. The small girls long strawberry blonde hair was pulled back into a pony tail that sat on the top of her head and bounced with every small movement. The frumpy blue hoodie hung over her thin frame like a blanket and a pair of loose blue sweats adorned her legs. It was a terrible outfit but at least it was a decent shade of blue... The thought made her roll her eyes and sit up straight, glancing over at her twin with a sigh. "What would happen if one day all the red's just went INSANE." Devin liked to play that game in her head, the what if game, it kept her life at least partially interesting. Damon never joined in though... too logical. So when Akira sat down Devin perked up a little. "Yeah, same old same old. Maybe if you work harder Devin your powers will start to fade blah blah blah." As she mocked the teacher. "We all know that's bullshit." Devin adjusted her volume and shifted as one of the guards walked by their work station. They didn't handle the kids talking about rebellion, even if it was just a talk. "This place sucks." She fell back into her chair once more and went back to her sewing. As Sean came over she looked up and gave him a small smirk, "Well well well maybe it just got better." There was no real hope of ever having any relationship in this place but Sean was cute and Devin could appreciate that.

Damon on the other hand was looking around as she sewed her photographic memory helping her as she quickly moved the fabric through the machine and switching to the next garment in the pile. Her sister was beside her rambling about yet another scenario that made Damon chuckle softly. "That would never happen." Her mind went blank for a moment before she calculated the possibility. There were just too many red's for ALL of them to ACTUALLY go insane... she knew that wasn't what Devin meant but she couldn't help her own brain. It just happened. Across the room Damon saw Akira enter and she gave a small frown, the girl looked so down all the time, though she supposed everyone did. "Hello there Akira." Damon moved her attention from the room around them to their little workstation and gave the girl a small smile.

"Devin stop." Damon huffed, looking over at her sister and giving her a small glare. As much as Damon agreed, she didn't want anyone to hear Devin complaining or talking about crazy things... she didn't want the possibility of her sister getting in trouble. She was the only thing keeping her sane in this hell. "Okay gross seriously Devin stop." Her sisters mood change when Sean approached made her give a small laugh, rolling her eyes and looking up at the tall blonde. "Same old same old. How about you?" Damon wasn't stupid. Literally. She was a green. You know who wasn't a green? Sean. It wasn't that he was stupid or anything! But he just didn't act like the rest of them. "You seem a little down."

Ryder ran around the track, his eyes constantly shooting over to the door watching for his newest partner. Aurela had only been here four days and already she was a giant pain, most of the new people Ryder trained with were kids. Thanks to his trusting attitude towards the facilities in general, Ryder was constantly being given special jobs; training, advising, errands between the different colors facilities. He didn't mind the added responsibility, it gave him something to occupy his time with rather than running constantly. The trust he showed was also the reason he was given Aurela as his partner. Ryder was reaching the age that everyone in the compound feared but also longed for; 18. No one truly knew what happened when the kids aged out of the facility but most figured it had to be better than being here any longer... 18 for Ryder meant it was time for a permanent partner, no more helping the younger kids adjust to the system. Aurela was the perfect challenge for Ryder they said, she had the power of a red his age but the attitude of the children.

"Ah there you are." Ryder spoke plainly as Aurela caught up with him, "Nice entrance, I'm sure the guards are really starting to love you." He shot her a look as they turned a corner on the track. "Why would I tell you that?" His eyebrow raised as he watched her, did she really expect him to answer that? Of course he knew of unguarded areas but escape routes? Hah! "This place keeps everyone safer Aurela... I've told you that a million times in the last four days." Keeping people like him away from civilians was for the best. Even with proper training some of the kids were a little.... volatile.... imagine how they would act without any training!

"I promised you that if you didn't get in any trouble I would convince them to let me take you with me on the next errand they have me run to the other areas. I'll give you a pass for this morning but if the guards hear what you're talking about they'll never go for it."

Marth spent his days on the bike, reading... At least that's what the guards believed. Doing so made him less of a giant yellow caution sign, excuse the coincidence. The book Marth read was the same one he had been looking at for years, on the outside it was simply some book about the history of Canada... the pickings around here were slim, but on the inside it was filled with notes and plans that Marth had spent years writing down with the dying ink pen he stole from a guard. Writing utensils were contraband for obvious reasons, A.) They were sharp. B.) Notes.

The plan had been the same for the past year. It was perfect! Only it was completely unattainable. The idea of escaping this place was completely unattainable. Guards were everywhere, plus if anyone saw these bright yellow outfits outside of the yellow facility it would cause chaos and more than likely death. Plus his plan required the intelligence of that girl in green. Over in the yellow facility the green girl born with photographic memory was only a rumor though... His plan required her to be real and for her to actually use her power. Someone with photographic memory had to know at least some of the key codes for the locks around this place right?

After a while of peddling Marth made his way to where he usually sat alone at lunch. A lot of the others tried their best to make friends in this place but it was futile. People sucked, all people sucked. Even this kid.... Marth sighed as Liam made his way over to him. Liam wasn't the most annoying human on the planet so that was a plus... but he WAS a human which was a minus. "What are you talking about?" He raised his eyebrow and peered over at the guy with one of his pale green eyes. "Oh, right. Your birthday was a little bit ago right.... Huh. Well it was nice knowing you." Marth raised his hand to give a fake salute to the teen before rolling his eyes, "Seriously though man, I have no clue. No one knows the real shit around here."

Sean approached the table and instantly she felt on edge. It wasn't him per say, he was a great person. How could she describe it? It was his...aura. His thoughts. It didn't take her long before she heard what was wrong. He was 18. "Your birthday is today..." The lights about flickered as Akira's heart beat anxiously. No! No, Akira, calm yourself. She silently tried to calm herself down, her pale hands gripping the arms of her blue jacket nervously. "No..." Thoughts of Sean leaving for good almost hurt to think about. Sean was...he was everyone's outlet. Even if Akira didn't rely on him like the others in the facility, she knew what he meant. He was cheerful, and that cheerfulness gave everyone home. Hope meant good thoughts and vibes, not the one he was giving out now.

"No Sean you'll be fi-" Akira flinched as she tried to sound hopeful, her eyes glowing a bright yellow. Suddenly the light bulbs all throughout the room blew and screams echoed throughout the room. Screams could be heard from throughout the building, room by room. Her eyes reverted. For the past few years she had kept control of her electricity powers, but somehow throughout all the anxiousness of Sean's birthday they managed to escape.

Quickly Akira rose to her feet, her hand gripping at her rapidly beating heart. "Sean we have to get you out." Akira looked around before her eyes settled on the twins. "Do you two want to come? It won't be long before you guys turn 18, and I don't want to see any of you go..." Akira wouldn't be too long after the twins. She felt her stomach in her throat as she looked desperately at the twins and Sean. It was now or never. "Will you guys come with me?" Please. The single word echoed throughout each of their minds as she pleaded with them.

Aurela hated the fact that everyone here seemed to believe these people! There was no reason to believe that their powers would be magically 'healed'! But Ryder warned her about speaking out against these people. The people that did disappeared. As much as Aurela hated this place it didn't mean she wanted to die. So she bit her tongue, silently plotting her escape. Maybe on one of these 'errands' she'd be able to escape. "Fine. I'll keep out of trouble for the time being. But I'm not drinking this imaginary kool-aid, I'm not falling for their shit. But I shall behave." Aurela's icy blue eyes glanced over at Ryder. The lights flickered and Aurela nearly tripped over her own feet as she stopped. "What the..." Her eyes peered through long lashes as the 5'6" girl looked around the room. The lights flickered, that meant something happened. Power outage? Her eyes settled on the guards as the listened to the radio before most of them left the room, leaving one guard behind.

"Keep running!" The guard turned his back to the kids after shouting an order and whispered into the walkie talkie. Aurela wasn't the only one to stop, but as soon as the guard said to keep running most of them resumed. "That's fishy..." Five guards was an issue. One? That was a gift. She could take him out no problem, especially if she had a little help. "Ryder, you interested in finding out what that was?" She smirked slightly to herself. "Your birthday is in a few months, isn't it? Interested in finding out about what happens when you turn 18? I've heard the rumors." Her long lashed eyes winked at him playfully as she backed off of the track. This was their opportunity. She'd send out a few fire balls, get everyone rowdy and riled up... What could go wrong?

Liam had really hoped Marth to say something different. Why? He had no clue. Marth was just as blunt as Liam. That's why he was hoping he would say something else. He was honest. And maybe he heard different rumors? But, no, they were all the same. They were always the same. Liam was surprised he was still here, to be honest. He worked hard for these people like they told him to, he was the hardest worker in this program.

"Liam, Marth! What are you two whispering about?" A guard started to walk towards the two of them before he stopped at the sound of the radio on his belt. "What? A power outage? Shit." He pointed to the bikes and then at Liam and Marth. "Get to work you two. It's because of your slacking that this happened." What? There was no way that riding the damn bike could cause a power outage... "Oh, alright." Liam gave a firm nod before hopping on the bike next to Marth. "Power outage huh? It's like there's a yellow loose." He laughed nervously. Like that could happen...no one ever got out of here.

Sean gave Damon a small, sad smile as Akira said something about his birthday. "Yeah. It's my time to go, I guess." The thought was...upsetting to say the least. It was also unavoidable. The fear of the unknown, didn't everyone have that fear? He knew he did. "It's alright, I've accepted it. It was inevitable I guess. But right now, I just want..." to escape? Not likely. He gave a sad sigh. "I just want to enjoy my last day at least." He looked over at Akira, who seemed to be panicking on the inside. "Akira?" He furrowed his brows slightly. She had been here for a while, and each day she seemed more composed than the last. He had never seen her so scared.

"It'll be okay-" Sean jumped when the light bulbs blew. Akira suddenly said something about leaving and he felt a glimmer of hope spark in his chest. A power outage was the perfect time. The guards would be in a scramble to get everything in order, they'd be too busy trying to get the lights back on to notice a few of them sneak away. HE didn't have to disappear, he didn't have to die. He could, maybe, get out of this alive. "I'm down." A creaking from above made him glance above the four of them, letting him see a lighting fixture waver back and forth. The lighting fixture seemed to fall from it's cord and came crashing down towards Devin. "Shit, Devin!" He lunged towards her and knocked her out of her chair, wrapping his arms around her to protect her, landing on his shoulder a few feet away as the fixture crashed into her knocked over chair.

Marth could have never thought this up in his wildest dreams! All of his plans that he made counted on the lack of power but none ever depended on it! Why did he never think of that? Being in yellow you got used to the plastic everything and the candles and such... but everything outside of here ran normally, WITH power. So of course when the power went out all he’ll would break loose elsewhere. And that was exactly what he needed. Marth wasn’t sure what his next move was but he KNEW he wasn’t letting this chance go, at this point his two options were succeed or die trying.

The chestnut haired male looked over at Liam and considered using him as bait for a moment before his worried voice echoed in the back of his head. People were annoying but this guy had been through enough shit... and while Marth was a lone wolf it didn’t mean they couldn’t work together for now. “That’s insane right? Who would have ever thought that could happen.” Marth continued peddling as guards left until only one was left, the others moving to provide back up. He then put down his book and slid the pen out from the binding before giving a glance at Liam and whispering, “Get ready to run okay... just run back to my cell and don’t stop okay?” With that Marth slid down off the bike and quickly moved to the guard, catching the man off guard and stabbing the guard in the hand and sending a fierce fist into his jaw, causing him to drop to the floor. “What did I say run!” Marth looked back at Liam with a scowl before he quickly switched his yellow jumpsuit with the guards uniform and began making his way back to his cell.

“Liam rip open my pillow, there’s a red outfit in there, change and don’t ask.” Marth stood by the door, tapping his foot. It wouldn’t be long until someone found the passed out guard.

Ryder was instantly uncomfortable, he didn’t do chaos. The system worked!! That’s why it was in place in the first place right? Everyone around him stopped moving when the lights went out and there was a low murmur of whispers before the guard yelled for them to begin running again. Ryder listened.

“Didn’t you JUST promise me you would behave Aurela?” Ryder gave her a small glare and huffed. What was with this girl? Although... a small part of him did wonder. What would happen when he turned 18? What happened when anyone turned 18? A lot about this place was keep a secret... Ryder had always blindly trusted. But even he had to admit that year after year there were more and more unanswered questions.

His running slowed and he looked over at his partner for a moment before coming to a complete stop. “I never believed that running would remove our powers... I thought that it would show them we could be kept under control. And they would see we could be rehabilitated... and I could go home.” As Ryder spoke he looked away and gave a heavy sigh, “That’s probably not true is it?” If he was wrong about how all this worked... he would never get a chance like this again.

“Wait it’s your birthday? Who will
I drool over now?” Devin made a terrible attempt at a joke but it fell flat, as did her smile. Sean was a good friend, as good as friends could be in here she supposed. The guy was always able to cheer everyone up even in this place. “I’m sure it’ll be okay!” Devins words didn’t match her eyes, they were sad. Everyone knew that once you turned 18 your days were limited and once they took you no one knew where you went. If you died... if you got to go home... if you just went to another facility. It was all so vague.

Besides her Devin could tell Akira was getting worked up. “Akira, girl you need to calm down.” Devin looked nervously over at a guard and put a hand on the girls shoulder. The last thing they needed to do was draw attention to themselves. But then something happened, it made Devin scream and her powers to go a little wonky, causing her to throw the sewing machine across the room. “S-Shit! What was that?!” Devin looked around to see all the guards running about and yelling for people to stay still. “Are we being attacked?” Devin went to go grab for her sister but suddenly there was a crashing sound and something darting passed her vision. “Oh my god!”

Damon was listening to her friends, her eyes scanning their faces and taking in the emotion. It was all a mixture of sadness and uncertainty, it was an uncomfortable feeling for Damon. Not the sadness, sadness was something everyone felt. But uncertainty... that wasn’t something she felt often. The idea of not knowing what would happen was terrifying, and the idea of it happening to a friend or even herself was just too much. “Damon’s right... I’m sure it’s not as bad as we all think. They wouldn’t put us in here and torture us for nothing right?” Maybe not the most comforting thing.

Akira was growing more and more upset by the second and her twin was trying to be comforting but it didn’t seem to be working. “I-Dev you may be making it worse.” Damon but her lip and pulled at one of her curls. Something felt wrong. And then something was wrong. Everything around them went dark and people were all yelling. Akira was rambling about going somewhere and then suddenly her voice was in her head. “Wait Akira you-“ then suddenly she was heading down, someone’s arms wrapped around her and a ringing in her ear from how close the lighting fixture cane to her head.

At first Damon thought it was a guard, but as soon as she opened her eyes she saw Sean. What happened? It took her brain a moment to catch up as she looked between his face and the lighting fixture smashed into the concrete beside her. “I-I-I...” Confusion and fear was catching up to her and for once Damon didn’t know what to say or do.. “T-Thank you Sean.”

"I admire your hope, but Ryder, it's in our DNA. You think running on this track will keep your powers under control? Training, that's what does it. I-" Aurela paused for a second and bit her lip. "When I found out about my powers I did a terrible thing that I couldn't control. But over the past few years on the streets I've studied my powers, I learned to control them so nothing like that ever happens. That's the only thing that will help our powers. These people are just trying to keep us locked up. They don't know what they're talking about." Time was slipping away from them as she spoke. "Ryder I know you've been dedicated to these people, but if you want out you can come with me. That's your only chance at freedom."

Aurela didn't trust Ryder, but strength was in numbers. Especially in their case, more fire power. With that said she turned on her heels and ran to the guard. Before he could even see her coming her eyes glowed a bright red, she felt fire engulf her hands, and then she found herself sending the balls of flames towards the guard. It was directed at him, just around him. Her eyes reverted back to the bright blue orbs once the fire dispelled from her hands. To distract him from her coming behind him, sneaking the baton from his belt, and knocking the man unconscious. "Sorry buddy." She reached down and took the taser, the pepper spray, the key card for the doors, and even the gun and spare clip. Who knew if she would need it, but at lease she'd have it.

"Alright! You coming?" She glanced back to search for Ryder as she opened the door.

Akira smiled nervously at the others. "I'll explain lat-" Before she knew it Sean was tackling one of the twins out of the way of a falling light fixture. "I-I'm sorry!" She didn't mean to do this. She didn't even mean for the power outage! A few guards stepped in the room and started caralling the other greens and blues, Akira's heart beating anxiously as her eyes started to glow a bright blue. Her pale hand reached out and focused on the key card, closing her eyes as the card slipped out of their pocket and into Akira's hand, her eyes going back to the original chocolate brown. "We gotta go, guys." She helped Sean and Damon up, checking over them to make sure they were okay quickly. "Alright, I'm going to open the door."

Akira was small. 4'11", 110 pounds soaking wet, she slipped through crowds easily. Which made her running through the few guards and fellow teens easy. Once she got to the door she fumbled nervously with the card as she swiped it. Another light fixture across the room came crashing down which helped distract the guards. "Come on..." It took a few swipes to open the door thanks to her tremoring hands. Finally the light on the door turned from red to green, making her pink lips turn up into a smile. She waved over everyone, anxiously opening the door. The way out, from what she heard from the guards, were through tunnels. A complicated system, but she swore she could see the exit when she looked at them. Like she was looking in their memories.

Liam didn't know what happened. Marth told him to run, and he just kind of followed. He didn't know why, but the thought of getting out of there...it encouraged him to do this. He wasn't normally a rebel, but the fear of dying here and not being able to apologize to his grandma...it motivated him. By the time Marth knocked out the guard he was right behind him. Liam could feel his heartbeat pounding in his ears. He kept close to him as he got to Marth's cell. He didn't hesitate to rip open the pillow and pull out the red uniform.

"How'd you get one of these? I've never seen them before." He shed the yellow garbs and replaced them with the red one. It was weird, all he knew here were the yellow uniforms. It classified them. Red was the most dangerous, it just felt weird to be wearing it. This place even made the teens segregate each other.

Once he was in the red uniform he looked at Marth. "I did rounds with a security guard a while back, I noticed some guards coming from a staircase that leads to a basement or something. I think that's how they get into the building, considering I've never seen a door leading out of here."

Sean smiled at Damon as he and Akira helped her up, dusting off her uniform. "No problem." He glanced over at Akira as she slipped through the crowd. Did he hear her voice in his head or was he going crazy? Maybe she was thinking it and he just heard it. But it was in his head, not hers... He had so many questions. When Akira waved them over he looked at the girls and smiled. "I'll lead you guys out." He walked over to the edge of the room, away from the guards and students, and focused on the guards. His eyes glowed a bright orange as he focused on them.

The guards stopped in their tracks and seemed to just stand there. Their eyes went blank as they just stood there like zombies. "Alright, let's go." His eyes continued to glow bright orange as he took cautious steps. It took a lot of work to keep their minds blank and to move towards the door at the same time.

Once at the door he shut the door behind them, his eyes going back to their regular baby blue color. Small drops of sweat dripped from his forehead as he took a couple deep breaths. Sean already felt fatigued. The 6' man pushed back some of his dirty blonde hair as he looked around the hallway. "This is guards only, I've never been back here."

Everything was insane. The twins were suddenly a part of some grand escape and while they didn’t hate the idea of getting out of this place it was almost scarier trying to think of what was waiting for them on the outside. Where would they go? How would they survive? Would their parents even want them back...

Devin has hoped and wished for years for something exciting to happen in this place but never once did she imagine this! If it wasn’t for the fear and confusion penetrating down to her core she would probably be grinning from ear. “Guys... is this really happening? Are we really doing this?” Devin pushed back some of her hair and peered around in the tunnels as they moved. Not once did it dawn on her that something strange was going on with both Sean and Akira, she was too amazed with the change in scenery.

“Oh my god!” Devin suddenly exclaimed and went to turn on her heels when she saw the guards, but they weren’t moving... or yelling. They were just standing there. “What the fuck is wrong with these guys?” Devin peered closer to them before looking back at her twin. “Weird huh?” Then she caught a glimpse of Sean’s eyes and she let out a gasp. Was he an orange? How did she’s not know?! How did he not get caught? “Woah...” Devin sighed as she followed the group, her mind racing and trying to get caught up as the door closed behind them.

Damon’s mind finally caught up to the situation and suddenly she was in overdrive. They were getting out of here, sure it was scary but it was better than this place. Plus any day now Sean would be taken... then her and her sister... then person after person. It just wasn’t right! Damon followed silently, her heart and mind clear and calm. “Devin just... Walk. Don’t think too much about it.” Her blue green eyes glanced to Akira then over at Sean. His responded with a glowing orange and part of her wanted to yell out that she knew he wasn’t a green! But now wasn’t the time. Instead she just continued on, keeping vigilant as they found the door.

Sean mentioned something about the corridor and Damon blinked a few times, looking around and taking in the area and trying to match it to an image in her mind. She reached up and pulled her unruly hair into a bun before taking a few steps forward. “I’ve seen this... on a blue print. One of the new guards had it out before he realized I was the one with the memory. He didn’t even realize...” Damon stepped forward a few steps and pointed to the left, “If we head this way there’s a room that leads to the pipes... it’s gross but if we follow them it will lead to the end that empties into the river.”

It was never about faith in removing or calming his powers... or really about faith in the people here. It was faith that his parents did this because they knew he would be safe. But could they really even know? Or if they did... we’re they just giving the same blind faith he did. Ryder couldn’t even entertain the idea that they just didn’t care... though it was a possibility.

As Ryder held an inner moral battle, Aurela was already off. Fire was flying around the guard and Ryder was suddenly pulled back into the real world. Other reds that had been on the track were terrified, some were still running, actually most were some mixture of both. It was that very image that pissed Ryder off... that made him realize how terrible this place was. In the midst of all this chaos they still ran... they were so scared of this place they didn’t dare stop running even after the guard was knocked unconscious.

“Just... lets go before I realize how insane I’m being.” Ryder made his way over to Aurela and took the gun, “I’m taking this though.”

“Didn’t I just say to not ask.” Marth growled as he looked back into his cell at Liam, “Here.” He grabbed the yellow clothes and threw them out into the hallway before grabbing Liam by the wrists and whispering, “Just go with it okay? Put on a show when needed.” He pulled on Liam’s wrists and pushed him out into the hallway, keeping his head down and making his way past whispering and staring fellow yellows.

“It’s out behind the bike room right?” Marth whispered as they turned corners and made their way back. “Shit.” As they turned a corner they came across a pair of guards who shouted something to him. “What? Oh this kid took advantage of the power outage and acted like a real asshole... I’m taking him back to the red facility and we will go from there.” As he spoke he slowly pushed passed the men and wished they believed his story.

Aurela smirked slightly when Ryder took the gun. "Now I'm offended. Do you have something against Russian's? Not all of us are mobsters. Do you even know how to use that thing?" She may have gotten mixed up with the mob doing a hit every now and then, but it paid good. And that was besides the point. They trained her how to use a gun. A few guns, actually. Maybe even a rocket launcher, but that one was just for fun. And grenades. "Whatever. Let's go." she booked it down the hall and took a few turns. In her few escapes the last few days she knew of one entrance, the one they dragged her through it. She remembered the turns. A few more hallways down she made it to the door to the basement. "Got it." Her eyes glowed a bright red as she fired another large fireball into the door handle, disintegrating the handle so the door fell open.

Quickly her feet tapped against the steps as she ran down the stair case, a large tunnel system in front of them. "Shit. I don't remember the way from here." She bit her lip. They'd just have to go with it. Everything was dark. She took the flashlight she got from the guard and turned it on. "Have you ever been down here?" She whispered quietly as she started to walk through the tunnel. She didn't know which way to go, she just prayed they didn't run into a guard.

Akira smiled as Damon said she knew the way. Good, that was useful. Akira had never seen the map. "Okay, you want to lead? It'll be dark down there." Once she opened the door to the basement she walked down the stairs and faced the dark tunnels. Part of her was tempted to turn on the lights, or at least attempt to turn on the lights, to the hallways. She couldn't see anything, but Damon knew the map down there. She would know the turns to take.

Part of her wanted to explain everything. She didn't mean to cause all of this. But how would they react to knowing she had more than one power? It wasn't normal, it was unheard of. She didn't want to be the freak of the group. Well, she knew that Sean was an orange. The orange color to his eyes was a dead giveaway. "Does anyone know where we're located? Like, state wise?" Akira wanted to get a game plan going. Where they would go after this. Hell, would they even stick together? Would they go their separate ways? She didn't feel like she would survive on her own...

All she knew was they needed different clothes. These ones would get them in trouble quickly.

Oh, that's what they were doing? Marth really put some thought into this. Liam hadn't even contemplated escaping before. Every exit of his seen him getting out because he worked hard to get rid of his powers, or because he turned 18. This was what Marth was scribbling into his book about all along. He knew it was something that was to be hidden, he just didn't know what. "Got it. Yeah, past the bike room." As they passed by the guards he started to struggle a little against Marth, his heart pounding so loudly he was sure everyone could hear it. Liam was horrible at acting. He was always a blunt sort of person, he didn't do well at acting. If it came between a documentary and a popular Hollywood movie, he'd pick the documentary. "Come on, let go!" Liam put on his best American accent, trying to disguise his Australian one. There weren't many Australians here, and he was pretty sure a few guards recognized his accent. Luckily he didn't really recognize these guards.

Once they were past the doors he let out a sigh of relief. They weren't too far away from the bike room. Thankfully there wasn't many guards between them and the room, and before they knew it they were in the staircase making their way to the basement. "Alright, now I heard rumors about the pipes leading into a lake. If we just find the pipes we find the lake, and I'm sure that'll be our best exit."
