Rather than thinking about how to tailor things for people, I think it would be more effective to spend the time to make sure you say exactly what YOU mean. If you don't want to offend someone, then just communicate clearly. If that makes sense.

A big part of of communicating is understanding your audience though. If I only said things in a way that made sense to me then what I really want to say would only reach people who thought like me. For some infuriating reason most of the population doesn't think like me and I often want or need to communicate to them as well.

It goes both ways I guess, if the person listening isn't interested in really hearing what I have to say then they'll just hear whatever they want to hear from me and that's not a failure on my part. But there are people who will understand if I make the effort on my end and won't if I don't and that's who I'm aiming for I guess.

Aaaand sometimes I just have nothing to say at all.

Yeah, I'm not saying to completely forget others. The thing is, if you communicate what YOU are trying to say precisely and accurately that could change depending on the person you're speaking to. The big thing is to make sure you're communicating your ideas and not compromising your ideas in the process of trying to tailor it for others. Because that's where real miscommunication happens. I understand what you're saying, linguistics is my thing. So that's closely related to literature.

*Waves*

Btw, tho it probably won't matter, I won't be around tomorrow. After Zen's driving test, my family's headed out to the dells for the day. ^;3^

Regardless of whether I stay true to my ideas or try to tailor them for other people, there will always be some reinterpretation no matter what. That means that the version of my idea that's in my head is effectively incommunicable. Only the version of my idea that survives someone's subjective reinterpretation can exist in the world and have some kind of impact. So that's the version I'm most interested in.

Ultimately it's a preference, that whole process and the idea that there are as many spins on my idea as there are people in the world is utterly fascinating to me and I can't help but think about it in those terms.

P.S. It is not a pile of dogs.
Yes, I know that.

;>v> O-Of Course not! Ho-How about you stand there, completely on the ground and not on top of meh, and explain it to meh? *Scooches to nearby cover*
A dogpile is when a bunch of people randomly jump on each other and create a huge pile. People are always laughing when this sort of thing happens, but I've noticed that somebody usually gets hurt.

*Has already set up cover* HA! You fool! I knew what it was all along! * ^ * And you've given me enough time to set up my impenetrable defenses!
