One and Only

Kaliyah welcomed his embrace, resting her head against his chest by his heart. It was calming to her.

After a moment, the princess stepped back and nodded to Rodrick before glancing at the woman. She raised an eyebrow.

Without a word, the woman tossed herself into the pond, sinking quickly.

Roderick tensed his jaw and turned away. "Don't watch Kaliyah."

The princess gasped loudly and hid against Rodrick's chest. Her arms wrapped tightly around his middle.

"Was that... How I'm dying?" She asked quietly, her voice muffled against him.

He huffed her tightly. "Yes. I'm sorry love. It was her wish." He sighed and kissed the top if her head. "We need to go."

Kaliyah nodded and stepped back, avoiding looking at the pond. "Shall we get horses?" She asked him as she glanced to the stables. There were a few horses that no one would notice going missing. They were just run of the mill and used for plowing.

"We don't need them." He pointed to a small cart that was pulling up. "We ride that to the port and my ship."

The princess nodded and headed toward it. They had to hurry or a maid or servant would see them. It was dark, yes, but some workers were still milling about.

Kaliyah could hardly believe she was actually going through with this, but it brought her a sense of peace to know that she would be leaving the stressful royal lfe behind.

Roderick vaulted into the cart. He then turned to her to pull her up. He arranged the hay so Kaliyah could sit comfortably. He smiled. "Princessa. "

Kaliyah sat beside Rodrick with a gente smile. "Where exactly are we going, sir?" She asked him politely. She was hoping it wasn't too long of a ride or else she would doze off to sleep.

The princess sat her sack of possessions beside her and rummaged through it, looking for a cloak to help with the breeze. She pulled it out and wrapped it around herself.

Roderick sat slightly lower than her, and he was able to lay his head in her lap. "Well, it takes an hour to get to the port and then...I hear Barbados is particularly nice this time of year. And there's a little house on a hill that has my Princessa's name stamped all over it.

"Sounds lovely, Rodrick." Kaliyah responded quietly. She was beginning to become tired as the movement of the cart was soothing her.

"I am very tired, Ro-" the princess began speaking quietly before dozing off to sleep, the cloak gently falling from around her shoulders.

Roderick caught her and laid her down in his lap, laying the cloak across her. "Sleep Princessa. I'll be here when you wake.

3hours later, Roderick was sat in a chair next to a bed that Kaliyah was sleeping in. They were in a cabin on his ship, on course for Barbados. He was reading a book, brow furrowed.

Kaliyah yawned quietly and stretched her arms. "Rod... Rodrick?" She mumbled sleepily. Her eyes opened slightly as she glanced around looking for him.

She saw him reading in a chair seeming deep in concentration. The princess turned over under the covers to face him. The slow rolling of the waves against the ship was nearly lulling her back to sleep. It took her aminute to be fully awake.

As he moved to turn a page, he glanced up. "Kaliyah! Did you sleep well, my love?" He asked, setting his book aside.

"Mhmm." Kaliyah mumbled in response as she sat up in bed. She gently let down her hair and combed her fingers through it to get rid of the knots. At the side of the bed she saw her sack and reached in it for a hair brush.

As the princess brushed through her hair, she spoke to Rodrick,
"We're on your ship I presume? Thank you for letting me sleep, I apologize."

Roderick lost his train of thought as Kaliyah let down her hair. He was utterly enchanted. "Umm...I....yes. it was no problem." He mumbled. At least she wasn't in her nightgown.

Kaliyah slipped out from underneath the covers and sat on the side of the bed closest to Rodrick. "So long are we going to be in this cabin then?" She inquired as she shot him another one of her sickly sweet smiles with wide blue eyes.

"Urm...as long as you want...I mean, we are free to roam the ship as well." He stammered, blushing and rubbing the back of his neck.

Kaliyah grinned charmingly."I will let that be up to you, sir." The princess stood and went to rummage through her sack for a change of clothes. She wanted a white tunic like dress with leggings and boots. After finding her items, she turned to Rodrick as a blush formed on her cheeks. "I.. Is there somewhere I could change? "

He stood up hastily. "The cabin is yours Princessa." He grabbed his book and went up to deck to read.

After getting dressed, the princess slipped out of the cabin and up to find Rodrick. She found him sitting and reading again.

The ship crew was milling about doing different chores, a few cast her curious glanced as they noticed the princess aboard their ship.

"Hello again, sir." Kaliyah stepped up behind Rodrick and peeked over his shoulder to see what book he was reading.

"Kaliyah...you can call me by name, you know." He teased, closing the book so she could see the title. The Tempest.

He look up at her. "You look beautiful. "

The princess laughed softly and sat beside him. "I know this. Just a formality I am used to. And thank you." She responded as she lay her head upon his shoulder.

A crew member walked up to the two of them not even bothering to glance at the princess. "We will be arriving a bit late, I am afraid. There is a large storm coming that may throw us off course. I advise going to your chambers soon." And with that, the man left

Roderick nodded and sighed. "That's Leo. One of my most trusted and a good friend. If I'm not around, he is the bext best option." He said to Kaliyah, gaze on the dark clouds on the horizon.

"Come Princessa. To our cabin." He stood, holding out a hand for her to take.

Kaliyah nodded and took his offered hand. The two of them made their way back down to the cabin. The princess moved to sit at the edge of the bed again. "What do we do now?" She inquired, tilting her head slightly up at him.
