One and Only

Roderick was in the closet, searching for a jacket vestthat seemed to be evading him. "No love. She just said she needed a walk. I trust her enough not to do anything stupid. Plus, all the villagers treat her like a daughter anyway." He smiled.

Aiden Gibbs was taking a stroll down the road, whistling a tune when a beautiful woman caught his eye. She had gorgeous green eyes and curly brown hair. A frown marred her features. Aiden made his way over. "Good morn, my lady. My name is Aiden Gibbs." He gave a little boy, flashing his white teeth.

Kaliyah sighed and rubbed her swollen belly, a tiny smile playing on her lips. Yes, Sabra was smart but there were dangers out there.

"If she isn't back in a few hours, I'm going to look for her." She stated defiantly. It was only natural as a mother that she worried. The village people were friendly and treated their family very well, but there was always new travelers coming and going.

--

Startled from her thoughts, Sabra looked up to see an attractive young man smiling and introducing himself go her. She returned the smile, blushing a little.

"I'm uh... Sabra. Sabra Mathews." She responded. Everyone on the island knew the last name, and it wouldn't surprise her if this man knew who she was.

Roderick came over to her, jacket triumphantly in hand. "She'll be fine. You worry too much." He kisses the top of her head. "She's been running around the island, unsupervised since she was five." He added, attempting to soothe his wife. He pulled a box from his pocket. "I got her this for her birthday. It was a gold chain with a pearl pendant. The pear was set in a disk of gold that had an engraving on the back.

"For my dearest daughter, light of my life, Sabra.

with love, ~Daddy"

"Will she like it?"

--

Aiden's mouth dropped open. "Lord and Lady Mathews are your parents? No wonder you're gorgeous..." he blushed. "I meant no offense miss." He held out his arm. "Care to walk with me?"

Kaliyah beamed up at Rodrick as he showed her the present. It was absolutely stunning. "She's going to love it." She whispered back as she pulled him down for a soft kiss.

As their lips met, Kaliyah's arms wrapped around his middle. Because of her pregnancy, they hardly did anything intimate anymore. But that's how it goes. She needed the occasional kiss such as these.

--

Sabra's blush deepened at his compliment. Over all, he seemed like a normal, charming young man. "I would love to." She responded as she took his offered arm.

Roderick grinned proudly, happily leaning down to kiss his wife. He pulled back, showering her neck with kisses as he set the box aside.

--

Aiden smiled. "Tell me about yourself Miss Mathews. " he looked to her, blue eyes bright.

Kaliyah laughed gently as her husband kissed her neck. He had always been a fan of kissing that area, but she couldn't complain. Although she was pregnant, and it was obvious, she was still rather small and slim and fit rather nicely in Rodrick's embrace.

--

Yet another blush formed on her cheeks as Sabra thought about her response. Here was a boy she had barely met yet she felt comfortable around him in a way.

"Well uh... What would you like to know?" She stammered quietly, her free hand smoothing back her hair.

Roderick grinned and put one hand over her belly. "And hows my son today?" He whispered in her ear, cradling her against him.

--

Aiden shrugged. "Favorite color, animal. If you had three wishes what would you wish for....that sort of thing." He smiled. Even though Aiden was just a merchants son, his mother had instituted good manners in him. He knew how to treat a lady and how to act in social circles.

Kaliyah glanced down at her stomach. She was fairly certain it was a boy this time. "He's great. Doing good down there. If only he would come sooner, though." She mused, smiling down at the bump.

"If it is a male like we suspect, what would you name him?" She wondered aloud to Rodrick.

--

Sabra laughed a gentle, melodic laugh. "I love the color of the horizon right after sunrise. My favorite animal would have to be... One of those island ponies that you see around here" she replied.

"What about you? I can't say I can recall seeing you around." She stated, turning to smile at Aiden.

Roderick fell back onto the bed. "I actually thought a lot about it. I want to name him Alistar. We can call him Alfie at home" heblooked to his wife, wondering if she liked it. She had the final say.

--

Aiden was hooked on her already. "Oh, uh...well my family actully moved her just a week ago. My aunt was wanted to meet me. Do you know Apolline?" He asked, running a hand through his hair.

Kaliyah grinned excitedly and took his hand in hers. "I think it's wonderful." She leaned her head on his shoulder and looked up at him. Pregnancy increased her tiredness by a lot, and she was beginning to feel sleepy.

--

"Oh yes! She's a good friend of my parents. She makes all of our clothes," Sabra responded with a smile. "Is she your aunt?" She asked him.

If he had just moved here, perhaps she should invite his family over for dinner. She brooded on that while awaiting his answer.

Roderick kissed her forehead. "Why don't you take a nap Princessa. I'll wake you for dinner." He nodded, green eyes bright.

--

Aiden shook his head. "No, she's my aunt's best friend. Colette is my aunt's name. Do you know her?" He asked, pausing under the shade of a palm tree.

Grayeful, Kaliyah nodded and moved to slide underneath the covers. She had to lie down a specific way, otherwise her stomach hurt very bad.

After a few minutes, she drifted into a light sleep. Her lips were slightly parted and her arms were wrapped tightly around a pillow.

--

Sabra racked her brain for the name. Colette. "Yes, I believe I have met her before." She responded as she leaned against the tree.

The Mathews had met pretty much everyone on the island, as Rodrick's wealth amazed some of them.

Roderick brushed a kiss across her forehead before leaving in search of his daughter.

--

Aiden nodded. He figured that Sabra would know his aunt. It was a rather small town. He reached forward to take her hand. He kissed it.

"I think that's your father coming this way. It's nice meeting you. I'll see you around." He turned.

Roderick came up. "Who was that love?" He asked putting a hand on his daughters shoulder.

Sabra smiled and nodded, watching as Aiden turned away. She jumped, a bit startled when Rodrick placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Just someone I met. He's very nice. His aunt is Colette, friends with Apolline." She explained, turning to face her father.

Roderick nodded, bending to kiss her forehead. "Did you invite his family for dinner?" He asked, leading Sabra up the hill, a hand on her lower back. She really was blossoming into a beautiful young woman. Roderick felt a pang in his heart. His baby was growing up.

Sabra shook her head, suddenly regretting it. "No, I didn't." She said with a sigh.

Once they were back home, she went up to see her mother. Kaliyah had woken up and was reading a book in the parlour, blanket on her legs.

"Its alright. Mother and I can talk to Collette." He smiled at his two girls. "Edmund said dinner should be ready in 20 minutes. In the meantime, I have a present for my girls birthday. I'll go get it." He ran off to get the necklace.

Kaliyah smiled up at Sabra, patting the chair beside her. "Where have you been?" She asked softly. She wasn't meaning to sound accusing, it was just a simple question.

"I was down by the beach when I ran into this boy who recently moved here. His aunt is Colette. I guess we're going to invite them over for dinner sometime." Sabra shrugged

(Kali should get upset that Sabra is jealous and stopped telling her everything, like she used to when she way younger. Then later they should have a really heartbreaking talk where they cry and make up.)

Roderick paused outside the parlour. They needed to talk anf he would give them the space.

Kaliyah frowned at her response. "Why didn't you tell me where you were going?" She asked her daughter.

Sabra shrugged again. "Dunno," she responded.

"Why aren't you talking to your mother anymore? Is it cause of the baby?" She asked, her eyes narrowing slightly.

Roderick winced and held his breath. He really didn't want to interrupt now. He saw Edmund heading there and frantically waved him down, probably savung his life. His wife was ready to explode, with one wrong move...boom.

Sabra folded her arms across her chest. "How can I be jealous of something that's not even born?" She scoffed.

Kaliyah stared up at her daughter, blue eyes widening. "You'll be appreciative you have a sibling when-"

"When he gets all the attention and you forget about me?" Sabra finished, practically yelling.

Kaliyah pointed to the door. "Go to your room."

"Mom, I-"

"Go!"

Roderick bit his lip and walked in. His green eyes assessed the situation. "Not so fast Kali. Sabra, sir down." He commanded, using his royalty voice.

Kaliyah stood, defiance in her eyes. "I want her to go to her room. It isn't fair to me or the child to have her behaving this way."

Sabra began to protest, but her father'a tone of voice scared her a bit.

Roderick put up a hand to stop his wife, a stern look in his eyes. "Have you ever thought it isn't fair to her? Every asked her how she felt?"

He turned to give Sabra the same look. "And you need to talk tonyour mother more. She's always been there for you and we can't help if we don't know what is wrong." He ginished, voice soft.
