One and Only

Kaliyah frowned in thought as she heard men approach the house. She peered out the large window that overlooked the front yard and saw her father'a crest on the clothes of all of the men.

One of the men stepped forward, casually peering past Rodrick and into the foyer. "Hello. My name is Mr. Riverra. We have word that our beloved princess may still be alive. Princess Kaliyah of the North. We wish to ask your permission to stay in this lovely estate while we search the island for answers of her whereabouts."

A muscle in Roderick's jaw ticked. "Of course. But I had heard she died. In any case, the lady of the house is pregnant and sick, I ask only that you remain quiet in our home." He narrowed his eyes.

The man nodded and motioned for his men to follow him inside. Without another word, the men began walking around trying to locate empty rooms. Once they did, they set their things down and made themselves comfortable.

Roderick followed, pointing out his room, saying that his wife was resting. Once they made themselves comfortable, he rushed to his bedroom. "My love, I apologize, I had to let them stay."

Kaliyah looked up, eyes widening a bit as she heard men just down the hall. "It is alright. What did they want?"

Roderick pinched the bridge of his nose. "To stay here while they search the island for you. " He thumped down on the bed, hanging his head.

Kaliyah grabbed hold of Rodrick, pulling him closer to her. She glanced at the closed door worriedly. "It's okay, they shall not find me."

"Well have to change your appearance. Just to be sure." Roderick mumbledx running through disguises in his head. "And you can't leave the house."

Roderick hugged her. "You are an angel. I am truly sorry my love. Try not to worry too much. Just think about our little Princessa. " he kissed her forehead, one large hand covering her bump.

She smiled and kissed Rodrick's cheek. She would just be careful. If she needed anything, she would have the maid or butler grab it for her. "They won't be here long, im sure."

Roderick had gone out to the market, just on his, way home. He opened the front door, arms full of groceries.

One of the men who had been staying in their home was speaking frantically with the guard in charge. His voice grew quiet as Rodrick walked in. The guard nodded and straightened, clearing his throat.

"Sir Mathews, are you aware that you are harboring the princess?"

Roderick froze. "I'm sorry? The only people here are my wife and I. Plus the butler and maid. I don't have any Princess in my home." He shook his head, eyes looking past him for Kali. "Speaking of, have you seen my wife? She needs to take her medicine."

The guard stepped in front of Rodrick, arms folded across his chest. "Sir, I'm not entirely sure your wife is who she says she is. Daniel here caught a glimpse of her earlier and swears on his name that she is the princess."

He scoffed. "I highly doubt it. I've known her my whole life. She's always lived ere in Barbados." Roderick shook his head. "To be honest, gentlemen, I don't think you'll find you Princess here. Now please excuse me, I need to see my wife." He made to move past them. "Sweetheart, I brought some bananas for you!" He called into the house.

The guard blocked him once more. "Sir, I'm going to need to speak with your wife alone." He stated as his men made their way up the staircase toward Kaliyah.

Roderick yelled at them. "My wife is sick and with child! I can't allow that!" He followed them, taking the steps two at a time. "Rosa! Don't open the door sweetheart!"

Kaliyah was rearranging her clothing when she heard pounding on the door and the men requesting to speak with her. Her heart dropped.

She could hear Rodrick calling for her using another name, telling her not to open the door. Quickly, the princess ran into the bathroom, closing the door with a deadbolt.

The guard was knocking at the door, slowly becoming more and more insistent. "Open up Kaliyah!" He called out.
