One and Only

Kaliyah was gently awoken from her light sleep. She sat up and looked up to the doctor, suddenly anxious. She had never liked doctors or the type, it made her nervous. She quickly got off of Rodrick's lap and stood up.

Thr doctor held up his hands. "Lady Mathews, please. If you would lay on the sette for me." He motined as he bent to retrieve his bag.

Roderick helped Kali to the sette, then stood anxiously bejind the furniture, holding her hand.

Kaliyah nodded and allowed him to help her up. She greatly appreciated him holding her hands. Her eyes turned to the doctor, nerves on edge.

The doctor knelt by the sette, pulling out his stethescope. He put the buds in his ears and the end on her stomach.

After a few tense moments, he sighed and stood up. Roderick sqeezed her hand when the doctor didn't say anything.

Kaliyah frowned, suddenly deeply worried. "Is everything alright, sir?" She asked him, her voice shaking a bit as a multitude of terrible possibilities rolled through her mind.

The doctor didn't speak for a minute. "The baby is healthy...but you, my lady, are not." He said finally.

Roderick bit his lip, drawing blood. No, thus couldn't be happening. He couldn't lose her.

Kaliyah sat up in shock, her eyes widening. "What... What do you mean doctor?" She asked him, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Lady Mathews....you are very sick. Fortunately, it is curable. But you must follow my ever order to the letter. Have you experienced any pain in you abdomen?" He asked, adjusting his glasses.

Roderick spoke up. "Yes, while we were bathing...intametly..."

Kaliyah nodded along with Rodrick, blushing a little. He was a doctor, so such details shouldn't matter too much. "Yes, it only stays for a few moments. I just believed it was caused by the child."

He shook his head. "It wasn't. How long have you been living here?" He asked, pulling out some medicine bottles from his bag.

Roderick nodded. "2, maybe 3 years."

The doctor hummed, not looking at them. "And what kind of food did you eat before coming here, Lady Mathews?"

Kaliyah frowned thoughtfully. She had lived in a mountainous region where their main food source was livestock. "Mainly meats, cattle, pigs, what not. Occasionally fruits. Vegetables from crop."

"And what have you been eating most here?" He asked, peering at the young couple.

Roderick swallowed and sat next to Kali, arm around her.

She was grateful for Rodrick's support, leaning against him tiredly. "Mainly fruits and whichever livestock lives on the mountain." She mumbled.

(Sorry wrong color I was too lazy to fix it haha)

He nodded. "Lady Mathews....the change of diet was too abrupt to your body. Since the baby was conceived, the stress on your body increased. This in turn put stress on your immune system, your first line of defense." He paused. "Because of this, your body is fighting your baby's. But since your system is already weak...you are losing."

"So what do we do?" Roderick asked, rubbing his wife's back.

Kaliyah's eyes widened in shock, shivering involuntarily. Atleast it was curable. "It's curable, you said correct?" She asked, worry evident in her tone.

"Fortunately, yes. Bot only if you follow my directiond to the letter. First...no more mangoes or any berries. A warm bath every evening. More dairy products. And no copulation. Most importantly, you must take a pill from the bottle every morning until your 6th month of term." He held up a blue bottle filled with purple pills.

Roderick sighed in relief. "Of course. Easily do able."

Kaliyah nodded along to his instruction, hanging on his every word. "Of course doctor." She gently got up and walked around to Rodrick, slipping her arm around him got support. "Thank you, sir."

He nodded and smiled, setting the bottle on a table. I'll be back in two days for a check up. My lord, payment for the medicine is 1 pound.

Roderick got up, and rached into hus pocket for his purse. He withdrew the coreect amount and handed it over. The doctor left.

Roderick turned to Kali. "I feel like it's my fault." He whispered, brokenly.

Kaliyah shook her head quickly, moving to wrap her arms tightly around Rodrick. "Don't blame yourself, dear. You saved me from my title as a princess. I'm going to be fine," she leaned back to give him a soft, long kiss.

Roderick kissed back then buried his face in her neck. "I should have known that the abrupt change would hurt you." He shook slightly, terrified of losing her.

Kaliyah quickly wrapped her arms tighter around Rodrick, pulling him close. "Do not worry, love. We will follow the doctor's orders and myself and our child shall be healthy." She kissed his cheek and pulled back a little to smile at him.

Kaliyah smiled brightly. "Sure dear." She kissed his cheek once more and lead him up to their bedroom to change.

Roderick smiled and turned to pull his swim wear from the closet. He quickly slipped into it. Turning to face his wife, his jaw dropped.
