Of Shadows and Swords (Chiarra)

Archer glanced at one of his hands and made a little bit of a face. "That's probably a good idea. How 'bout I sneak in through the back of wherever we're staying?" It was probably best for him to not be seen with blood-dotted clothes, or with a bit of it still at the corner of his mouth where he'd had to spit it out. Ugh. He could still taste it.

She nodded and looked at him. "Are you sure your alright?" she asked him. He looked terrible and already a giant bruise was forming on his jaw where he was punched.

Archer gave her a look and just kept walking, shaking his head. "I'm a thief, and I live in a world of thieves. . ." He sighed at the confused look she gave him. "This sort of thing happens a lot."

She was confused, but then he cleared it up a little bit. "Still," she said. "That was pretty rough back there." It was more than rough, to her it was terrifying. She didn't want to go through anything like that again....except the kiss, she liked the kiss, even if he did have a bit of blood on his mouth.

Archer just shook his head. "I can take it." It was Lucius he had to worry about. When they did finally meet back up again and Lucius caught sight of him, the Raven did yell some, but ended up just fussing over him. Archer knew the glaring just meant he was worried and concerned and even afraid - Lucius had lost too much. He couldn't bear losing Archer too.

She gave Lucius half a smile and just in case Archer hadn't, told him that Archer may have some cracked ribs from all the punching he received. "Archer," she started. "Who were those men anyways?"

Archer hissed when Lucius pressed a hand to his stomach, spreading a black blanket of shadow over his ribs to keep them from moving. He gave a little glare, to show it hurt, and just shook his head, keeping his hands tight at his sides where he sat. "Just some old - friends."

Lucius shook his head and gave a squeeze, deliberately but also because it was necessary. It silenced his friend effectively. "By friends, he means someone that wants to kill him. He has a lot of friends."

((gtg to work))

She watched as Lucius set to work on Archer and a confused look spread on her face. "Why do you call them friends?" she asked. "They don't sound or look like friends to me?"

((Sorry my posts have been very short lately. I don't mean too, but I'm just so tired lately and can't seem to make a decent sized post. And have fun))

((Its okay. I understand. Sometimes your brain just wants to not write anything))

Archer laughed a little, which both caused the binding to squeeze a bit harder as his diaphragm tried to expand and just plain jarred his ribs, then cringed and curled into Lucius shoulder. Lucius sighed and shook his head. "He likes the irony of it." He explained, shrugging slightly. "It clearly amuses him. Also, no one likes to hear someone talking about enemies. Call them friends and no one cares what you're saying."

((Exactly and that makes much more sense than what I said lol ^_^ )).

She saw him laugh and then winced a bit as she saw that it had hurt him. But what Lucius said made sense. "I understand," she told him. She sighed softly. "We were going to go fence off his jewels to get more money, and that's when that happened. We don't really have enough to buy much of anything now. I wonder if I can earn some money by playing music," she mused the last part.

"Idiot." Lucius hissed, but was helping Archer to his feet so he could move to a bed anyway. "You should never have gone there with her. You go alone, or you take me with you. She can't help you and you're just putting everyone in danger." But he'd said all tant already, so he just set Archer down and tried to not let his chest feel so tight. ". . . But I'm glad you had her . . . or you might not've come back. . ."

Archer grinned up t him like nothing was wrong, wanting him to feel better. "I'm like a bad cold. I always come back."

"But I did help him," she said. "Giving them the necklace got them to stop punching him, which gave him a chance to regain his strength a bit to escape and then claim everything back before getting us out," she said, crossing her arms over her chest.

((Good new! Finally upgraded to faster internet ^_^ ))

((Sorry, I was at a friend's house and there was too much going on to reply))

Lucius shook his head, a worried furrow in his brow still, even though they were both here and relatively unharmed. "I know that, and I'm grateful, but if you hadn't had something they wanted, they could've killed you both. They probably would have." He patted Archer's shoulder to give him the message to stay down and stood up. "There are worse things than death that could have happened."

((It's fine ^_^ ))

She sighed softly and looked down. He was worried for her, she knew and he was right about what he said. "I'm sorry," she told him. "I shouldn't have gone along with him at least, and should have tried to stop him." She looked over at Archer, blushing a little, before looking away again.

((Ugh, long day at work. My feet hurt but I am happy lol I kind of like working long days))

Lucius finally heaved a sigh and just settled sitting next to Arther to keep the thief from rising for a while. "It's all right. . . You couldn't have predicted what happened, and under the circumstances you did well. . . Thank you for helping get him back to me." Archer was family, no matter how bad he could be sometimes.

((So..you work earlier on tuesdays?))

She gave him a faint smile and said, "You are welcome." She was thinking about the kiss again and she bit her lip softly. Why did he kiss her? Was it just to make her not worry or was it something more?

((I don't have set days. I get a schedule two weeks in advance and just get whatever days they give me. Lately it's been mostly 7 to 11 shifts, but they needed someone to cover and 11 to 7 today, so I jumped on it when they called me. I'm kind of broke lol))

Lucius nodded and just glanced at Archer, then around the room. "You won't mind that he has to be here tonight? I don't want him moving until I know how he's healing." By tomorrow they would know if the ribs were actually hurt or if they were just smarting from being punched so hard.

((Oh, okay gotcha ^_^ ))

"No," she said. "I don't mind, not one bit. He can even have the bed," she told him.

Lucius nodded a little, gratefully, and gave Archer a stern look. "And you're going to stay there until I say otherwise, got it?" Archer just smiled a little, and if it wasn't quite an answer Lucius didn't say anything.

She smiled softly herself and her stomach growled a bit and she sighed. "I suppose I should go to the market with what little money we have left and go get some food," she said getting up. "Maybe I can play for people for money," she suggested. "Ooh, we can be traveling story tellers." She lit up a bit about that. She loved a good story.

Lucius shook his head and got up. "How about you just stay here and make sure he doesn't try to get up? It's safer if I go out for it." Faster, too. He could get them as much as possible with what little they had left.

"Alright then," she said softly, sitting back down on the floor while she looked up at Archer on the bed. "Be careful," she told Lucius. When he was gone, she looked up at Archer and blushed again. She was nervous, but...she had to ask. "Why...why did you kiss me?" She immediately looked away, blushing brightly.

Archer looked over at Melody when she spoke. "Hm? Because I wanted to." He grinned a little and made grabby motions at her with one hand. "Come closer so I can do it again. I'm not supposed to sit up."

She blushed and tried to hold back a giggle, but she nervously got up and went over to him. "I thought you hated me," she said. Despite the fact he was friendly towards her, she still never forgot his threat he made towards her.
