Of Shadows and Swords (Chiarra)

((Okay then have fun ^_^ ))

She grabbed her harp and started playing a melodic tone that was slow, but had a happy tone up until the end when it grew a bit tragic. There were words to it and she sang them as well, speaking of a forbidden love that had a tragic end to it.

Archer closed his eyes and listened as she played, smiling a little to himself. He drifted while listening, and by the end of it, had fallen asleep.

She quietly set the harp down when he had fallen asleep and grabbed one of the books she had brought along and started to read it while she waited for Lucius to return.

((So sorry!! Movie again!))

When Lucius returned to the room at the inn, he paused in surprise, looking at where Archer lay sleeping on the bed with Melody reading at his side. He closed the door, quietly, and walked over to sit nearby. "He's sleeping. . ." He said, voice a little awed. "He doesn't like sleeping in front of people." Unless Lucius was around to have his back, or they were at Enik's, Archer never slept in front of anyone.

((It's okay, I got netflix ^_^ ))

When Lucius came in, she smiled softly at him. "Yeah," she said. "I played for him and he went right to sleep." She marked the page in her book and set it aside for the moment. She wasn't going to tell him, but she did wonder how Lucius would react to Archer kissing her...twice."

Lucius managed a faint, hesitant smile, and nodded, getting up to go to his place on the floor. "Perhaps we should all sleep, then. You don't mind him being there, do you? You were next to him when he drifted off, I suppose, and if that's true then he won't flip on you when he wakes up."

"No, I don't mind," she said. "Goodnight Lucius." She grabbed the blankets and covered both her and Archer up as she laid down and closed her eyes, trying to go to sleep herself. She hoped Archer wouldn't flip on her in the morning. He himself did say it was okay for her to sleep next to him though. She put those thoughts out of her head and slept until morning.

In the morning, Lucius woke first and made sure that they had food and enough money to get to the next town, at least. If they had to, they could stay a few days and he and Archer would work, if the thief's ribs were better. In the meantime, Lucius waited for the others to wake before he would eat. He wanted to be sure everyone got food evenly.

((brb))

((Okay then ^_^ ))

Melody woke up the next morning shortly after Lucius did. She sat up and stretched, being careful to not disturb Archer, once she remembered he was there. "Morning," she whispered over to Lucius.

((Well, I'm back before you even had to wait lol Just had a quick chore to take care of))

Lucius blinked sleepily and looked up when Melody whispered to him, nodding a little and yawing quietly. "Good morning." He glanced at Archer and debated, not getting up yet. "I should wake him. I need to check his wounds."

((lol ^_^ ))

She nodded and easily got up from the bed and away from Archer before Lucius tried to wake him up and got a safe distance away to watch. "I do hope that he is okay," she said.

Lucius shook his head as he got up and walked over. "I'm sure he'll be fine." He could've told her to sit down again, as waking up without her would be just as bad as waking up to someone that hadn't been there before, but he didn't. The damage was done now. "He's been through worse before."

"He said that before too," she said softly and just watched. She still felt bad though, feeling like she was responsible for it, since she suggested fencing off the necklace.

Lucius woke Archer with his name, like he usually did, and pressed a hand down tight against the thief's chest to keep him from sitting up before he could calm down. Archer blinked around at them and then just gave a sleepy nod. "M'r'n'n. . ." He slurred and just lay still as Lucius moved the bottom of his shirt up a bit, putting a hand on the shadow still binding the injured ribs.

"Stay still and breathe steadily." Lucius said. "I'm going to check if anything's broken now."

She sighed with some relief as Archer woke up a bit calmly this morning and watched as Lucius went to check Archer's ribs. She was a bit nervous as she waited for the verdict.

Lucius pressed carefully against Archer's sides with his fingers and with the shadow as a barrier, feeling for any damage and looking for Archer's expression as well. When he had finished, Lucius just nodded and hovered a hand near the bottom of one of Archer's left ribs, towards the inside. "There's probably a slight fracture here, but you'll be fine so long as you don't do anything too strenuous."

She was relieved when it was only a slight fracture on one rib and not much else. She smiled softly. "That's good then. Lucius....how do you know so much about injuries?"

Lucius glanced at her as he helped Archer sit up against the wall. "Palace guards train as soldiers and protectors." He said, shrugging slightly. "It comes with its fair share of incidents. After a while you just learn to tell the more minor things." Broken bones he could handle, as well as blade wounds and hard bumps to the head. He couldn't truly stitch larger wounds, or cure hurts that were too far inside, but he could do a little. "Aaric always wanted us to be able to take care of ourselves, so he taught me a little as well."

What he said made a lot of sense. She wished she could have met Aaric, but she didn't tell that to him, afraid it would upset either just him or the both of them. "He sounds like an honorable man," she said, hoping that wouldn't upset them. "Should we eat now?" she asked, gathering up the food and moving to sit next to Archer.

Lucius wanted to say that Aaric was honorable, and much more, but he just nodded at her question and got up. "Stay put, Archer. I'll bring it to you. I still want you to rest as long as possible."

Melody also made sure there was room for Lucius to sit with them on the bed if he wished to do so. She also eagerly awaited for her portion of the food to be distributed. "So...what are the plans for today, for us?" She was excluding Archer in that since he needed to rest.

((I'm not actually here lol some friends of mine are leaving for a month, so I gotta go say goodbye))

Lucius shrugged a little and brought of food for them, then got some for himself and sat near Archer's feet at the bottom of the bed. "I'm not sure yet. I want Archer to rest, so I may just go and look for a day's work while we're here. I don't want to risk trying to sell the jewels in that same place, and I'm not sure we can risk a jeweler seeing them, lest they be recognized somehow."

Archer shook his head. "I doubt jewelers here will recognize specific stones from the east. . . Not enough to know who owner them, anyway."

((Okay then ^_^ ))

"Well," she said. "Good luck finding work," she said. "And...I do agree with Lucius. Especially about my mother's necklace, they may recognize it and...I don't think that would be a good idea to sell it to a jeweler. I'll just stay here and make sure Archer doesn't move." She started eating her own food.

Archer sighed a little but nodded. "Oh, all right. Double team me, why don't you."

Lucius smiled slightly and just pushed his food a little closer. "Just eat and be happy you don't have to work, too."
