Caspian was silent for the entirety of it, choosing only to listen rather than add his own two cents. The others occasionally chimed in, which seemed to add notes of melancholy and sentiment. Was that a good thing? Caspian had a nasty feeling that the king couldn't care less for what the old man had done for them. In fact, the longer Hope spoke, the more an amused look seemed to spread over the king's face.

"Please try to refrain from acting so ridiculously in my presence unless you are the court jester, children. Absolutely not."

A horrible sensation sank through Caspian and into the floor. This was exactly what he had been expecting; there had been no way the king would grant their request. And yet, because of all the time spent trying to just get to this point, Caspian had started to feel like they ought to get something out of it. But now, they had no chance at all. Less than that; their ambition had been replaced with despair.

Something started to bubble up within Caspian; his knuckles turned white as he gripped one of the thick-shafted arrows in the quiver on his hip. His lips were pressed into a thin line, and his eyes were as cold as steel and locked on the unforgiving countenance of the king. Had he no pity? Could he not see what little these orphans had -- why take away the only thing they had left? Caspian longed to scream, to pull out his dagger, to throw something, knock the smug look off that pompous bitch--

"I'm going to kill someone." Had he just said that out loud? Caspian forced himself to release his fingers from the arrow, and instead moved his hand down to graze the hilt of his dagger. He wouldn't kill anyone. He would think about it, but he wouldn't kill anyone. Probably.

That compass.

Anghel knew it very well. Where it came from, what it was and of course, the power it held. He had no idea how some random orphan child had managed to acquire such a precious object, but what little he'd overheard of the boy's story had offered a few hints.

Of course, the idiot king had swiftly crushed their dreams with an uninterested smirk. Unaware of just what he'd lost a chance at, or perhaps so rich and spoiled he wouldn't even need it. Anghel narrowed his unbandaged eye at the man. "You think the islands themselves float around your command," he murmured, "but oh, you have no idea. You're not the only one around here in the business of granting wishes."

If anything, the grief-stricken outburst of the pale-haired boy and his companions had provided ample cover for Anghel to get closer. His gaze remained fixed on the compass as he wove through crowds with the grace of someone all too familiar with sneaking around, teal hair fluttering behind him. Quietly clearing his throat, he swished his way to where the saddened youths stood.

"Do not despair so easily, children. The king and his dress-up dolly of a captain I encountered earlier might not care about your plight, but I do. Or rather, I'm aware that you have something I require and am willing to offer a trade of sorts... you see, I need that compass, and you need an airship. You provide the compass and serve as my crew, and I'll provide the airship and the knowledge of how to fly it. Sound like a deal?" Anghel winked in their direction, he was all but certain they'd leap on such an opportunity.

That damned king was already calling for reinforcements, but this hardly concerned the infamous rogue. He was easily a match for regular guards, and if he wasn't... well, he could always use it. There were methods to deploy it without killing, though that hardly made Anghel feel better. The Blood Ruby and its powers were undeniably a curse, but desperate times did call for desperate measures and all that.

Standing tall and proud as the guards began to pour in, Anghel wore a look of sly confidence.

"Everyone here who hates His Royal Snobbishness or wants a chance at having their most impossible of wishes granted after a grand adventure, get your butts over here," he yelled out, "this will be one for the history books!"

Liu Fan
"The Shadow"

Location: Stateroom
With: Ghel, orphans
Fan groaned, unseen and unheard as she followed Anghel through the dungeon. He couldn't resist taunting the other inmates as he slipped past, and Fan thought that if his antics didn't bring the guards down on them before they even got within sight of the airship it would be a miracle.

She said 'them' even though, technically, insubstantial as she was, if Anghel were caught she could simply melt away and leave him to his well-deserved fate. She'd had more than one occasion on which she could have done just that but, of course, they both knew she never would, no matter how unreasonable he was or how much he infuriated her. He had saved her life, and she was now honor-bound to stay by his side until that life could be repaid, in service or, most likely, in death.

She winced as he cooed at the prisoners in a disgustingly sweet tone, specially crafted to enrage anyone it was directed at which, judging by the inmates' reaction, it did. He turned back towards her with a careless shrug at the madman's dire warnings, even though he couldn't actually see her. Fan shook her head, filing the information away. Focus, you idiot, she thought. We're not even out of the dungeons yet.

She followed him as he crept carefully up each new floor, back to street level and the grand rooms of the palace. Once they heard the sound of voices, he crept up towards the light and peered around the corner before turning back to her, fiddling with his hair as he explained in hushed tones that an entire audience chamber filled with people- not to mention the king and his Guard- stood between them and their goal. Fan groaned, the sound like the slightest rasp of wind. Of course- it could never be that easy.

She crept closer to the edge herself, careful to stay out of any direct light, and peered around the corner. It was exactly as Ghel had described- the peasants, the monarch, the milling crowds of Open Day. However, all they needed to do was get across this corridor and then they were home free. Even though the corridor was brightly lit and in full view of the audience chamber, she felt confident that she could get them through without being spotted among the hustle and bustle of the room.

She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the unpleasantness ahead. Bringing someone else onto the astral plane with her was always an unpleasant experience- it made the air feel like super-thick sludge she had to move through, dragging a heavy weight (as most people didn't actually know how to move through the astral plane). The exertion and concentration required would always leave her feeling depleted afterwards, and with a pounding headache but, in this instance, they really had no choice.

She was just about to grab Ghel and pull him into the ether when there was some kind of commotion in the room and, before she could react, he had walked past her and straight towards the source, appearing almost hypnotized. She wanted to yell at him and pull him back, but doing so would call even more attention to him, so she followed behind, silent and, in this light, more ghost-like than actually invisible.

When Ghel walked straight up to the boy responsable for the commotion (she recalled the group of children from earlier when they'd been standing in line), she wanted to grab him and shake him and just start running. At his outrageous proposal, her eyes went wide.

What could he possibly need that compass for? she wondered. Ghel was such a good navigator that he could sail without one.

However, at that point, the guards had started closing in on them, and she knew survival took priority- explanations could wait until later. As one of the closest guards neared their group and prepared to attack Ghel from behind, Fan stepped between them, rematerializing in one swift motion, parrying the guard's spear aside with her right arm and thrusting her palm upwards with precise and efficient force.

The guard's head snapped back with an ominous crack as the assassin dislocated his jaw. She didn't pause to watch him fall to the ground, spinning on the spot to meet another guard advancing from the side.

As she parried his weapon and jabbed his solar plexus in one fluid motion, sending him crashing to the ground as well, wheezing desperately for breath, she turned her head in Anghel's direction, her mouth a tight, thin line.

"Ghel, we need to get to that ship now," she prodded with utmost efficiency, conserving her energy for the uppercut she delivered to the next guard, a blade sliding from its sheath on her wrist.

Her eyes met those of a few of the children he was apparently intending to enlist. Loath as she was to take on extra baggage (it would be hard enough just getting the two of them out of there, let alone a group of unarmed and inexperienced kids), Ghel wanted them along.

"Move," she said to them, her voice sharp as a blade and her eyes dark and cold and pitiless as a desert night.
"In life I serve . . . .
. . . . in death I pay."

Yuan Naoyuki
"Nao"

Location: Audience chamber
With: Hope, Cas, Ghel, Fan
Oblivious to Caspian's silent plea, Liz introduced herself and blithely stated their purpose for being there, drawing Caspian's obvious ire. He attempted to somehow take back her words, but to no avail. Omotholo then tried, without much conviction, to persuade them that the whole thing was a bad idea, Ever reassuring him and introducing herself in turn. Hope did so as well, just before the grand palace doors opened and they were ushered inside.

Nao felt his insides swoop with anticipation, excitement, and a little nervousness as he marveled at the grandeur and sheer size of their surroundings. Caspian wrenched himself angrily from his casual half-embrace, straightening his uniform before walking inside. He stood ramrod straight, staring superciliously ahead of him, and Nao rolled his eyes.

Let's see how long your fancy uniform lasts once we're in the air... he thought derisively, amused at the image it evoked.

When they reached the throne room, Sima seemed predictably unfazed by the whole thing, instead smiling and waving at the young guard by the king's side, who turned out to be the one they'd seen earlier bringing in the teal-haired prisoner. The guard detached himself from the king's side to greet Sima in turn.

Liz and Amaya's eyes seemed to follow the pair, but then Nao realized they were both staring past them, at the teal-haired man in question, who seemed to have somehow escaped custody. Even though it might mean trouble for them, Nao couldn't deny that he felt like whatever was about to happen would be exciting. His feeling was echoed (with a different tone) by Amaya, when she ominously stated "Well, that could be bad..."

And then, at last, it was finally their turn. It was obvious that Hope was nervous, but he eloquently stated his case, and it made Nao hopeful that the king would agree to it. A hope that was dashed immediately, when he emphatically refused. Hope began to panic and have one of his attacks, most of the group rushing to his side in response. The sight of his tears wrenched at Nao's heart, and he glared up at the king.

Cutting through his enraged thoughts came Omotholo's panicked voice, advising them to leave at once. Nao blinked in surprise, looking around to see the teal-haired man making a beeline for Hope, eyes fixed on his neck. Nao had begun moving to place himself between the man and Hope when Caspian's voice, sharp as he'd never heard it, gave him another source of alarm. "I'm going to kill someone."

He turned again to see his friend standing rigidly before the throne, tense, face white with suppressed rage, his hand on the hilt of his dagger. Deciding that this took precedence over Hope (for the moment), Nao went to his side in two wide steps, placing his own hand over Caspian's. He knew his friend was prone to thoughtless actions when provoked, and now was definitely not the time or place for him to be losing it.

"Cas, calm down," Nao breathed in a level voice, attempting to transfer some modicum of comfort to him through his words. Effort wasted, as it turned out as, at that moment, the teal-haired man reached the group and made a rather insane proposal. Nao blinked.

Hope's compass in return for an airship? Really?

But then it was no longer time for wondering, as the guards had caught onto what was happening and were converging on the man. Nao made a split-second decision to come to his aid, stopping one of the guards by grabbing his spear and swinging it around as hard as he could. The guard relinquished his weapon and fell to the ground.

Nao turned back to the group just as three more guards neared their strange new ally. The warning he was about to cry out died in his throat as a woman materialized between the man and the guards and took out all three of them almost faster then the eye could follow, with astonishing precision and skill. She then turned her eyes to them, and Nao felt himself shiver under that gaze as she told them to move. Not needing to be told twice, he made a beeline for Hope and scooped him up into his arms.

"Where to?" he asked breathlessly, prepared to run in any direction but not wanting to abandon the rest of his friends.
"What was broken . . . .
. . . . can be fixed."

As Omotholo began fretting over something (Liz wasn't quite sure what yet), a growled statement came to her ears. "I'm going to kill someone." Liz's eyes went wide, thinking That could not have been Caspian. And -as she turned to find where exactly this voice that sounded exactly like Caspian's but certainly could not be was coming from- she found that -in fact- it was. Liz fought to keep a watery grin from popping onto her face. At least she knew that Caspy wasn't nearly as tired of them as he'd been acting.

"Do not despair so easily, children." Liz's gaze was torn from the king by a sudden voice next to them. She blinked, and found herself face to face with the teal-haired mystery man himself. He went on to ask -in the exact way she would imagine a pirate captain from any number of fantastical stories would (as Liz was still decidedly certain that this man was a pirate)- for a trade. Of course, she was instantly on board, and she was about to say so when so many things happened at once that she couldn't keep track of them all.

First the guards began to approach, looking decidedly less enthused than Liz felt. Then the mystery-man (in all his pirate-like glory) announced to follow him (all while insulting the king with a grin). A woman just appeared out of nowhere and took out three guards. Nao was fighting and carrying Hope in his arms and goodness gracious are the adventure's beginnings always this insane?

Shooting the rest of the orphans a manic grin, she spun on her heel and sprinted toward the adventure awaiting her. As she ran, Liz wrestled with one of the bags on her belt, tearing it open with a spray of grey-blue powder. Chucking a handful of it into the face of the nearest guard (whom she felt a twinge of pity for as he sputtered and tried to blink it away. She'd gotten the powder in her eyes before, and it took hours to get the blurriness out of her sight), she fell in step next to Nao.

Liz was -quite literally- glowing with excitement. As her skin flickered (a difficult thing to notice in the current lighting, but something that could be seen if you looked closely enough), she gave the strangers a moderately deranged grin. "Docks?" She said, assuming they'd understand she was asking if that's where they were headed.

Dragged out of his somewhat selfish inner thoughts, he stumbled backward in shock, staring at the dark-haired woman that had just taken out two of the king's guards. Why was this happening? Airship? Stealing an airship? Why?

Maybe he should have been paying more attention. Whatever the case, the woman barked out a one word order that was enough to tell Caspian that maybe they were on the same team. Maybe? He didn't like the looks of her or the teal-haired man, but the approaching guards didn't exactly look like they were going to help the situation. For a moment, he contemplated pulling out his crossbow. For whatever reason, he had brought it along, strapping it across his back in case... in case what? He couldn't possibly have anticipated. Maybe he had brought it along to ward off annoying vendors during the long wait.

A better solution presented itself. There was no way those two ruffians and a bunch of orphans could fight off the king's guard. The dark-haired woman was right; they needed to move. The little group began to move away from the action, but did anyone know where they were going? Liz was right, the docks should be their next destination.

The cogs in Caspian's brain started to whir. He was facing west; the royal docks were north-northeast. Although Caspian had been in the castle only a few times before, and never in the king's audience chamber, a layout of the castle was quickly forming in his mind.

"This way!" shrieked Caspian, knocking against Ever's shoulder as he rushed to the front of the group and took a right down a narrow hallway. His gift was in full swing now; it was an almost out-of-body experience. He could visualize the entire castle as if he had been the architect. As he led the group through various twists and turns, he continually updated his position and added new information to the schematic.

Caspian ripped himself from his vision-like running to look over his shoulder, making sure everyone was following. Nao had Hope in his arms; Liz looked as though she was buzzing with excitement. He counted seven total -- was that the right number? Caspian hoped so.

"Through here!" Caspian pushed open a heavy steel door and stood with his back against it, holding it open for everyone to pass through. On the other side was the wide-open royal shipyard, filled top to bottom with airships of every shape and size. It seemed mostly deserted, probably because of the Open Day festivities.

Amaya | Running through the Castle with the Orphan Band | Tagging: the group | Mentions: Caspian, Nao, Hope, Anghel, Fan

Contrary to what some people thought from her generally enthused demeanor, Amaya was not the type to scorn excitement. She really liked it, in fact. The days could be boring so often, so it wasn't unwelcome to see something new, get met with a interesting challenge of some sort, or just simply have a routine turned upside-down by some unexpected event. Even "bad" events could be interesting, she figured. Because how else was she going to learn everything there is to know about this world?

So it was no surprise that right now, running alongside her companions through the castle hallways, Amaya felt nothing short of alive. She even felt a slight grin creep onto her features as she tailed Caspian, the pounding footsteps of her friends, the rogues, and the guards filling the space with a few yells and 'stop right there's thrown in for flavor. She looked behind her to the others running as well, making sure they were keeping up. Amaya had always been an agile one, so she hardly felt tired at all as of yet, but she did hope everyone else would fare as well. Especially since Nao was carrying Hope right now. But he was a quick one as well; he seemed to be doing fine.

When the king told them they were being ridiculous and that there was no way he would help them, Amaya was sure that their quest was over. Unfortunately, she didn't really expect much else, as adults like him were hardly something worth counting on, but it did sting. No, scratch that—it angered her, just like she's sure it did many of the others. How dare he just insult them like that!? Call them foolish? Unintelligent? But there was no chance to defend themselves or have a debate. Amaya's pride cracked in two right then, and there was nothing she could do about it. But it was a different feeling than what she was used to, though. It was different feeling that kind of hurt as a group, and not alone...

And then, everything changed in mere minutes—no, less than that. The teal-haired supposed pirate guy came up to them. He wanted to make a trade. Amaya wasn't quite so sure how she felt about that. Could they trust him? But she couldn't quite think straight—she was too busy feeling like she sensed something besides him. Amaya had this thing where she could easily sense the presence of magic—it was something she had in lieu of actually having a magic ability, she supposed—and she was sure she could sense something else. Someone else. And then, she was right. Just as the guards came upon them, this fierce-looking woman appeared out of nowhere and in a flash, joined them. And protected them.

Amaya was feeling sharply the loss of her bow and arrows. She didn't bring it, not thinking there was a need. In that, Caspian was far more prepared than she was. She still had her knife, though; she just hadn't used it yet. But was this it, then? They were running towards the docks, right? They were leaving...

Oh no. Walnut. Walnut was still in the bushes! If they were leaving right now...she needed to get him. Her weapon she could do without, but her fox was coming with her, no questions. Amaya would just have to leave and get him as soon as they were outside. She would catch up, surely. No one would even notice her gone. She took another look back and kept running. Yes, she just needed to wait for her moment. Everything would happen like it should. They would get an airship; she would have Walnut; everyone would get out of this okay. It hardly even crossed her mind the thought that they were all about to be fugitives. They could deal with that. She could deal with that.

She could handle anything that happens—just wait and see.

It was hard to be mad when one expected the outcome. The King was exactly what he looked like, a snobbish, uncaring foll with a complete disregard for other peoples feelings. It was pitiful, in all honesty. She had looked sadly at the couple who had lost their shop to a fire, and felt even worse when she just knew the greedy pig of a king wouldn't do anything to ease their pain. One object in this entire cage probably would have lightened their load.

But neither of those things was what got her truly angry.

The King could sit there on his throne of blood (because Evergreen was sure someone worked tirelessly on it through their blood, sweat and tears), and he could turn up his ugly nose at every poor person here seeking some kind of assistance whether it be to help them come out of dire straights or to progress them in the form of titles. That was all fine. What wasn't fine was tearing the injured apart further. It didn't matter if his hands didn't physically grip Hope and rip him to shreds. All that mattered was that his words did enough. And a lot of times, words were often far more painful.

And then came his cries.

Nothing brought an ache to her heart more quickly than to hear her friend apologize for failing them when he did absolutely nothing but try. And maybe if she were more accepting on the situation (to which she now was not because of this demon of a king), she may have offered Hope a shoulder to lean on as they left.

But that wasn't happening.

All of her rage, build up from the many months after her complete and utter removal from her homeland, rose to explode like a volcano bubbling lava it was going to unleash on the damned. She stared at the king with a blind fury, her hands balled into trembling fists. At least she wasn't deaf to the words of those around her.

Liz, sweet as ever, offered comfort Evergreen couldn't hope to give with how upset she was. She wasn't even upset for herself, everything she did was for Hope and the other orphans. Maybe some of her anger was directed at herself, because she was unable to even do anything about it herself.

Poor Omotholo simply wanted to leave, and she couldn't blame him. Despite how much she wanted to spew every colorful word under the rainbow and tell the King exactly what she thought of him, that wouldn't do anyone good, and she wouldn't dare put Hope under any other pressure now that she was sure he was suffering physically as well. She put a hand on Hopes upper arm, lightly squeezing, but said nothing. She had to let him know she was there in case he needed her. Even if her powers did him little good, she hoped it could provide some comfort. And yes, Caspians small outburst was heard, and it even made Evergreen smile a little. Nao seemed to try to calm Caspian down, and though she figured 'what the hell let him stab someone', she didn't try to physically stop him. Though she didn't condone murder, even of a merciless king, it was still kind of...nice to hear, as sadistic as that may sound.

The guards were coming, and Evergreen wasn't entirely sure what to do. Her main goal was to keep Hope safe, and if that meant she suffered any sort of consequence then so be it. Hope's health was too important.

It definitely was something out of some strange fairy tale. The way the teal haired man [Anghel] who had been dragged off to the dungeon hours before suddenly appeared before them, speaking in an eloquent voice and saying some of the things Evergreen wished she could have had the courage to say aloud, made her heart flutter. What he was suggesting, what he was offering, Evergreen just found herself respond simply out of spite for what had just happened, and what he wanted in exchange for Hope's compass.

[div class=speak]"Well you can count me in."[/div] Her eyes flashed to the King, a look of victory because somehow she knew, no matter the outcome, he was going to have to go through some semblance of hell and it would be utterly worth it.

The teal haired man had a woman [Fan] with them who seemed cold and, maybe a little less than pleased to have a group of youths tagging along, but Evergreen was appreciative of her authority. Caspian knocked her shoulder when he tried to get ahead to help lead, so it hardly bothered her that he bumped her. All the better to get the heck away from the guards! And any bruise, should it occur, she can heal easily. The wild haired girl was also appreciative of Liz's and Amaya's excitement, it was a good thing to keep the spirits lifted while the world seemed to spiral out of control around them. For Hopes sake, always.

Omotholo Okomokklo
Royal Shipyard
Interacting with: The Orphans
Specific Mentions: Caspian ( boo. boo. ).

There weren't a whole lot of things that Omotholo had to his odd name. A cloak, a peculiar stone, a few other odds and ends the boy had picked up along the years. One thing that he did have, however, and perhaps had from the beginning, was a very good sense of when things were about to go horribly wrong. And, as much as he wished to ignore such intuition in that particular moment, to pretend that everything was going perfectly swimmingly and that they'd be home by tomorrow evening, that spark of intuition of his was bright enough to be blinding.

The child let out a scared, slightly frustrated whine as the guards continued to close in, the other orphans seemingly deciding to stand their ground instead of exiting as commanded--all thanks to that criminal that had approached them moments earlier. Omotholo shrunk back toward the group, puling his hood low over his head as he shuddered in place, hoping against hope that the other children didn't go about whatever reckless business he had feared they would try as soon as things went south.

He closed his eyes...and then it came.

"This way!" came Caspian's voice, shocking Omotholo's eyes wide open again as he noticed the others beginning to stream after him. "Caspian, no...!" he weakly protested as he followed along, the prospect of being left alone to the wrath of the king and his guards being an even scarier possibility than whatever might befall them wherever Caspian might be going. "We're only going to make things worse!" he called as he followed the party through the palace's twisting hallways, both hands clasping the interior of his cloak as his feet plodded lightly against the lush carpet beneath. They passed lavishly-carved marble pillars, dashed beneath glinting chandeliers, and through halls more lavish than the ballrooms of the nobility (or, so was imagined--after all, Omotholo himself had seen no such place outside of a few illustrations).

Their path became momentarily more utilitarian before shifting into a wide, open launching area filled with airships upon passing through the last door. As Omotholo came to a stop, looking out at the floating drydock, he shook his head slightly, only for the motion to become more vigorous as he glanced back at the others and put two-and-two together.

"...Oh no. Oh no no no no no. We'd be breaking the law! They'd send a whole armada after us! Who knows what they're going to do to us already for running away!"

Anghel couldn't help but wear a slight smirk as Fan backed him up, just as she always had. That woman was predicable as all hell, but in the best possible way.

"As you command," he replied teasingly to her order, though she was undeniably right. Anghel might have nothing to worry about when it came to being impaled on the sword of some talentless guard, but the helpless youths around him absolutely did. He fell back a bit when the boy in the fancy clothes (apparently named Caspian) yelled out for everyone to follow him, offering another layer of protection between the orphans and the King.

From Anghel's calculations, they were definitely heading in the right direction. Did he work for that idiot royal or something? Not like it really mattered... his loyalty was more than obvious after the threat he'd made earlier.

Closing his eye momentarily so he could properly manifest some throwing knives, Anghel still managed to keep pace with the others despite his less-than-practical choice in footwear. Great cavernous halls echoed with clicks from his heeled footsteps as he ran, the sound occasionally accented by a pained yelp whenever one of his knives hit a target. By the time their strange little group had reached the doors to the airship yard, Anghel had run out of sharp things to throw. "Perfect timing, as usual, he complimented himself.

Despite being a glorified pirate, Anghel was polite enough to wait until everyone else had safely passed through the doorway to join them. Once he caught up to them, he gave Caspian a nod of approval. "Your choice in outfits could use some work, but you're a damn fine navigator. Thanks for making this considerably easier on all of us."

Pausing to fully take in his surroundings, Anghel hoped that giving the band of orphans a moment to compose themselves would prove useful in the long run. His own eye was drawn to the assortment of airships around him, though he of course already knew exactly which one they'd be, ahem, borrowing.

The Jewel of Phaland, official airship of the King and the finest piece of flying machinery currently known to exist in all of Ahressa. Gorgeous design, more amenities than some noble manors and perhaps most importantly, it boasted a top speed of more than double any military airships, meaning escaping the wrath of the royal family would be far easier too. A win-win situation, at least according to Anghel.

"Alright children, and Fan-who-would probably-kill-me-if-I-referred-to-her-as-a-child, listen up. There are a lot of nice airships here, but we are after that one," he announced, pointing upwards at the one docked beside a rather fanciful access tower with a steep ladder. "That is the royal airship, the Jewel of Phaland. Yes, it's the most difficult one to reach with the ridiculous ladder, but it's also the only one fast enough to evade the military airships. I don't think I need to explain why that's important, so follow me. I'll climb up last and destroy the ladder, and then we're off. Sound good?"

Anghel was sure it would not sound good to all of them, especially the young boy in the cloak who appeared absolutely terrified of... everything, as far as he could tell. There was no turning back now, however. Not unless they all wanted to spend their lives rotting away in prison, or worse.

As the group hurried towards the accesss tower, Anghel turned his attention to the tall redhead and his pale companion. "The one with the compass can climb, right?" Though blood still dribbled from the corner of his mouth, Hope offered a reassuring smile and nod to both Anghel and his companions... particularly the girl with the wild hair who had seemed quite concerned about him earlier.

"Alright, good. Ladies first," Anghel said with a dramatic bow, gesturing to the ladder with considerable flourish. "Or gentlemen, I don't really care as long as you all get your butts onboard ASAP."

Yuan Naoyuki
"Nao"

Location: Jewel of Phaland
With: Hope (+orphans, Anghel, Fan)
In an instant, Liz had sprinted to Nao's side, throwing powder into the face of a guard as she passed him. "This way!" Caspian called in response to their queries, taking place at the front of the group and leading them down a narrow hallway off to the side of the audience chamber. After a few frantic twists and turns that no doubt had everyone but Caspian hopelessly lost, he pushed open the door to the royal shipyard.

Nao barely had time to marvel at what he was seeing- he'd dreamed of having access to such a place all his life-, intent on getting them all out of there safely as soon as possible, Hope's frail form still in his arms.

In complete contrast to the thrill and excitement currently sending Nao's blood rushing through his veins and pounding in his ears, Omotholo's terrified voice floated across to him. "...Oh no. Oh no no no no no. We'd be breaking the law! They'd send a whole armada after us! Who knows what they're going to do to us already for running away!" Nao rolled his eyes. "Exactly! It's too late to turn back now, which means we need to get away!" he attempted to get him to see.

At that point, the others had joined them, the door was closed, and the teal-haired pirate made a speech. When he pointed to the Jewel, Nao's mouth dropped open and his eyes sparkled like those of a five-year-old who'd just been given a unicorn for his birthday. Despite their current predicament, he was thrilled; getting to even be on board the most magnificent vessel in the fleet had been basically a lifelong dream of his- one he didn't think he would ever realize. And now, it was real. He could have cried.

The pirate turned to him and nodded to Hope. "The one with the compass can climb, right?" he asked. Hope smiled weakly back and nodded, and Nao rolled his eyes again. "Oh no you don't," he said as the man invited them to start climbing. Nao put Hope down briefly before picking him up again in a piggyback, and started climbing. Even if Hope could do it, he wasn't about to risk letting him try and fall in his weakened state (or, it had to be said, slow the rest of the group down).

When he made it onto the ship, he gently lowered Hope to the decking and out of the way before looking around in amazement- it was fancier than anyplace he'd ever been, sleek and shining. He wanted to run up and down the length of the ship and explore every nook and cranny at once, but there would (hopefully) be time for that later.

Instead, he positioned himself next to the ladder in order to help the others on board and observe the scene down below.
"What was broken . . . .

Amaya | Royal Shipyard, by the Jewel of Phaland | Tagging: Annabeth, Vincent ( Yuu Vee Rays Yuu Vee Rays ) | Mentions: Anghel, Caspian

"Alright children, and Fan-who-would probably-kill-me-if-I-referred-to-her-as-a-child, listen up..."

Yes, yes, Amaya was listening...as drifted towards the back of the group and quickly took stock of her surroundings. They had just exited the castle thanks to Caspian's guidance, and they were currently right in the midst of the Royal Shipyard where the great and massive airships were docked. If it was another time, Amaya would love the chance to get a good look at them—she had never ridden an airship before, and even though such tech was far from Amaya's area of expertise, she couldn't help but marvel at the craftsmanship and complexity of them. But, that wasn't important right now. Amaya was confident she was going to be riding in one very soon. But right now, her priority was Walnut.

Her pet fox should still be in the bushes by Main Street, waiting for her return. All Amaya needed to do was pick him up and run, because she most certainly was not leaving this place without him. It would be rude. She just needed to slip away from the group, find Walnut, grab Walnut, come back, and board whatever ship they were boarding before they left. Easy.

While the others had their attention on the pirate-not-a-pirate man leading the way, she backed away into the sidelines and took off running, her feet light and nimble across the cobblestone path, doing her best to avoid being seen by the guards, although she was so focused, she had little idea whether such avoidance efforts were working or not. She had to hurry. She ran around the castle from the outside, emerging back into the scene where she started: Main Street. People were still here: a few of them still in line, a few going home, but far too many for Amaya to avoid. Not neatly, anyways.

"Excuse me!" she shouted before running straight through a group of dancers that she recognized from back when they were waiting in line, with the response of a few yelps and some scrambling, proceeding to weave through the rest of the crowd. She kind of hated just bowling through everyone like that—her running experiences like this have been almost exclusively done in the forest environment—but oh well. She took a running leap over a rock and dove into the bushes.

Walnut, who had previously been sleeping, perked up with an excited yip. Amaya hurriedly scooped the small fox up in her arms.

"You! Stop!"

Oh no. Well, looks like it was time to go now. Amaya got up quickly out of the bushes, almost running into this one silver-haired man holding a sketchbook who was apparently waiting in line and who looked quite bewildered at her emergence. She looked around him to see a couple of guards heading their way. So she was noticed? That was unfortunate...

"You! Yeah, you there!"

The guard pointed, and she couldn't really tell if he was pointing towards her or the silver-haired man. It was probably her. But...where was she going!?

The crowd was erupting into chaos around her as more guards appeared at the scene and people abandoned the line in favor of getting far out of the way. There were so many...oh no, now it made sense. They weren't just after her; these guards were backup, weren't they? Some were running for the shipyard. And others had their attention on her.

A rare flash of panic hit Amaya in that moment, for the first time, really, since this whole chase started. One part of her was absolutely confident that she could get back to the ships without getting caught. The other part was sure she was about to get cornered. But running away wasn't an option. She was getting on that airship.

People were scattering out of the way, but Amaya looked around quickly and saw a few people still nearby. The sketchbook man, for some reason, hadn't run away yet, his expression looking simultaneously scared and curious. And she saw that one of the dancer ladies had come closer to her, for some other reason, the light of excitement in her eyes, besides one or two others. And in the span of the small moment with which she was given, Amaya made a decision. Now, Amaya was not going to pretend to be the one in charge here. She was perfectly fine with letting the ones she trusted who knew the situation best lead, for the most part. However, she had no qualms about taking the reins, every now and again, because after all, when was she ever wrong? (Don't answer that)

"Help me and you can come with us on the airship!" She blurted out, feeling the thrill once more of acting on the spur of the moment. "But we gotta run! Now!"

Was Amaya really expecting this to work? Maybe. Maybe not. All she knew was that if she had people with her, she was less likely to get cornered. She took off running after her announcement, knowing that at this point, subtlety was out. Everyone knew she was here, and they surely knew where she was going (the guards would be quite dense if they hadn't figured it out by now).

She flew down the streets, a very spooked Walnut firmly in her arms. She wasn't quite so nimble now, with him in tow. She leaped over the front of a parked cart, and felt with a moment of panic her grip start to leave her. Dear Walnut squirmed, and in the moment of trying to reposition him again, she lost her footing, tripped, and fell.

A hand reached down to pull her back up. Amaya's eyes widened in surprise. The dancer lady! And...and that sketchbook man was with her! They really came—well, of course they came; her plan was genius! She got up, and Walnut hopped back on her shoulder. And they kept running.

When she got to the shipyard, she realized with a moment of panic that she didn't stay long enough to find out which airship they were going on, so she quickly scanned the scene before descending the hill, but it wasn't too hard to find them. "That one!" she shouted and pointed at the big, fancy ship in the dock. "There they are! Let's go!"

That was...a really nice ship. Amaya felt a small smirk of a smile coming on. Oh yeah, who's the foolish children now?

Liz's grin refused to leave her features. Even as guards drew ever closer, she couldn't help but think This is it! This is adventuring! We're gonna do it! A million questions buzzed in her mind, but now wasn't the time to ask them. Now was the time for action!

Occasionally when guards got too close, Liz would hurl a stone from her slingshot. Her aim wasn't as good as it used to be (she had been so busy with her apprenticeship that it was hard to find time to practice it), but more than a few guards would have a bruised eye the next morning. Still, Liz felt a twang of sympathy every time one of the guards was taken out. They were just doing their job, after all.

When they slid to a stop in the docks, Liz couldn't help a prick of fear from sliding into her throat. It wasn't the same shipyard she'd been to when Trent... 'went missing', but it looked similar enough to send a slight nervous thrum into her heart. Despite her misgivings, she listened carefully to the pirate's short speech (or, at least as carefully she could manage), and gave a silent nod after he explained the plan.

After giving the other orphans one last cheerful grin, she clambered up after Nao. Though Liz was tempted to stay and help everyone up, it seemed as if he had that covered already. Instead, she hopped onto the decking next to Hope. As she waited for the others to come up, she released a few more shots from her slingshot, managing to bean a few guards on the head with a satisfying pling. While doing this, Liz's eyes caught on the rest of the group. Something felt off.

She paused her attack against the guards for a few seconds, trying to puzzle it out, and just as Liz was about to shrug it off and reach for another piece of ammo, it clicked. "Guyyys!" She called, "I think we're missing someone!"

He was feeling a little light-headed; maybe he ought to sit down for a moment, try and figure out what was going on... That wasn't going to happen. The teal-haired man ran out last, his eyes gleaming as though he was actually enjoying all of this.

"Your choice in outfits could use some work, but you're a damn fine navigator. Thanks for making this considerably easier on all of us."

"I'm sorry... Who are you again?" Caspian's complaint fell on deaf ears as the group moved farther into the shipyard. A horrible feeling had suddenly crept over him as the teal-haired man began to address the orphans. Everything that had been said in the throne room was now rushing back to him -- this stranger said he could provide an airship, and Caspian hadn't really questioned where it was going to come from. Now that they were here, it was all too obvious what the plan actually was.

"That is the royal airship, the Jewel of Phaland."

No, no, no... Caspian's jaw practically dropped to the ground as full realization draped around him. They were going to steal the king's airship -- not just any ship, but the Jewel of Phaland, only the most extravagant and expensive airship in the king's fleet. There was no question that Caspain was completely against this idea. The orphans began moving like puppets, following the teal-haired man's orders without question.

"Who the hell do you think you are?" Caspian thrust an extended, accusing finger in the teal-haired man's face. "You can't just steal the Jewel -- that's breaking the law! What are you, some kind of pirate?"

Momentarily, Caspian had forgotten the situation and had now taken up his Academy student persona. He was in the service of the king! He couldn't just let this happen! His face twisted with unbridled rage as he locked eyes with the felon.

Caspian might have stabbed the man, but the whir of an arrow that grazed the side of his head dispersed the fog of ire for a moment. More guards were on their way, and he could see a few positioned on the battlements above them. Another arrow clattered against the pavement beside his foot, and it took Caspian a moment to even react. He ducked into the shadow of the Jewel's access tower, wondering for a moment why they were shooting at him before remembering that he was actually the one that had led the group out of the throne room.

Clearly, the only way out of this mess was aboard the Jewel. Caspian looked helplessly at the teal-haired man, but his eye was caught by the distant figure of Amaya approaching the shipyard, accompanied by two unfamiliar people. Where had she gone? And what was that furry lump in her arms? Caspian looked up toward the battlements again -- they would be shot down if they ran across the open pavement.

An internal struggle erupted within Caspian -- he could help Amaya by using his crossbow on the guards above, but that would immediately decide his fate with the Academy. Childhood? Future? Past? Present? The choices hurt his brain, but it seemed as though the only solution would be the one he hated most.

"FUCK YOU!" he screamed -- at the guards or the teal-haired man? -- and ran from the access tower's shadow, unbuckling his crossbow and loading an arrow inside. He took only a moment to aim before letting it fly at the guards above. It struck harmlessly against the stone wall, but was enough to draw the guards' attention toward him.

She spoke to Omotholo with a matter-of-fact tone, though kept her voice gentle. Nao was a little more abrupt about his reply, though she didn't comment on his tone. She knew perfectly well what was happening was incredibly illegal, she just stopped caring the moment the King stop caring. Which, let's be honest, was the moment they set eyes on each other. Maybe had she a different upbringing, maybe if so-called 'royalty' didn't sour her opinion of them. Maybe things could have run differently through her mind but alas, there she was, a defiant rebel and now a fugitive.

How positively exciting. And Liz was doing well to keep the guards at bay with her slingshot. It might not be the most dangerous weapon in the world, but Ever figured that a little black eye here and there was far better then...well, death.

She still wasn't sure how she felt about the pirate [Anghel]. Or the guy who looked like a pirate. Yes, the one with the heels that she mocked much earlier that day. Yes, she wouldn't be judging a book by it's cover like that again. Well, maybe. He was in high spirits and of course suspicion crossed her mind. He had every right, and opportunity, to throw the group of orphans and friends to the wolves when he and his companion [Fan] had gotten what they wanted.

She resisted a little snort of amusement when the teal-haired man commented on Caspian's outfit. She wondered if he had seen her outfit, with the patches and all. But maybe that suited a natural healer such as herself, so the thought passed as quickly as it had come. She paused when he had, and she followed his eyes as they picked through the airships docked around them. And of course he wanted the big fancy one. She could have rolled her eyes until they popped right out of her head. Smart or insane, she wasn't too sure yet, but it seemed like the ship was picked and they would be on their way to commandeer themselves a vessel.

When the heeled-pirate spoke up and confirmed her suspicions, she was silent as he explained his reasoning behind it. She gave a little nod of surprise and affirmation in response, before her eyes flitted up to the Jewel above. All they had to do was climb one ridiculous and dangerous ladder and they would be on board. He was even offering to climb up last. Was that an attempt to get into their good graces further than she was sure he already had, or was this pirate one with honor rather than working on pure mana-lust?

Caspian didn't like the idea of breaking the law, so she just shrugged her shoulders and replied, [div class=speak]"Sometimes you have the break the law in order to do what is right. This is the right thing to do. And trust me, that King won't be hurting too much. In fact, if the legends are true, it's just his loss!"[/div] Maybe that wasn't the right thing to say, but say it she did. She was quite sure they would discover everything the pirate, or whatever he was, was up to once their journey was underway, and by the beating of her heart she succumbed further to the anticipation. For a moment.

Now the guards were hurling arrows at them. But she couldn't focus on that either. At the mention of Hope, the wild look disappeared form her features and was replaced with one of concern, and she turned her head a bit to glance at Hope who was still held in Nao's arms. Though blood still leaked from the corner of his pale lips, he responded with a reassured smile, and she was quick to catch his eye. She didn't move when the aqua-haired man dramatically gestured to the ladder uttering a 'ladies first', because she would go up when she was sure Hope was safe and sound aboard first. Luckily, it seemed like Nao was on the same wavelength, for instead of carrying Hope, the pale-haired boy was on his back as he climbed with expertise. If only she were as physically strong as Nao was.

Liz followed Nao and Hope on board, and Evergreen proceeded after. Caspian had yelled expletives and she hoped the man would come to his senses and just get on board. She was sure everyone was pissing him off now, but he would calm down eventually, she hoped. Though the mention that Amaya was missing was distressing. Where could the woman have gone?! Ever looked to Hope to see how he was doing, hoping that Amaya would return in due time and not while skewered by a dozen arrows.

Omotholo Okomokklo
Royal Shipyard
Interacting with: Everyone
Specific Mentions: Evergreen ( InTheSea InTheSea ), Anghel ( spookie spookie )

"We're not going to be fine!" Omotholo protested, albeit meekly; he didn't want Evergreen to think that he was mad at her, after all. Really, the boy had no idea just who he should be directing his stressed ire to; the criminal amongst them seemed to be a good enough target, but the others were already climbing at his call, and with arrows now wizzing through the shipyard, there were only so many places to go.

"Oh gods...I can't believe we're doing this..." he panicked to himself, letting out a light whine as he extended his fingers before touching them together in an exaggerated tented fashion before him. As the tips of all ten digits connected simultaneously, what sounded to be a light, warbling chime sounded quietly from what seemed to be the middle of the boy's hands. His cloak and loose-fitting trousers briefly billowed before the boy shot up into the air, his legs sweeping out from beneath his feet before he managed to right himself at the apex of his leap-of-sorts. He coasted down carefully onto the deck of the airship, bypassing the ladder altogether--there were too many people upon it for his tastes, what with guardsmen on the ramparts and all. Should he have offered his help to the others? Well, maybe--but most of them seemed to have made it aboard at that point anyway.

Immediately, the boy made his way toward the closest door he could see, ducking and covering as he went. Through the immediate fear of arrows subsided as soon as he found himself surrounded by solid walls, the background anxiety of grand theft airship (and not just any old airship to boot) only intensified as he realized just which room he had ended up in. Rows and rows of buttons, switches, levers and dials lined the entirety of one side of the room, carefully set and ringed with shaped, glistening metal, equal parts ornament and machine, all whilst a variety of others hung down from gleaming golden pipes. To Omotholo, however, they all might as well have been display pieces; though he had read through the orphanage's modest book collection many times over, there was nothing in their stores that had anything to do with flying the king's personal airship. By the look of things it was a many-person job; there seemed to be more gauges and dials alone than there were eyes among the orphans.

He made his way over to the main dashboard, bending down to look at one of the panels underneath; it opened easily enough, and there appeared to be just enough space for someone his size to crawl within--though not without risk of bumping into various minute components, each appearing as delicate and important as an expensive piece of jewelry.

Carefully, he glanced toward the strange room's entrance and watched for movement, hesitating as he thought about whether or not to hide. Lips pursed, the boy thought better of it, carefully hurrying away to find a suitable corner instead.

Liu Fan
"The Shadow"

Location: Airship ladder
With: No one
When the tall, lanky one scooped up their ailing leader at her command, Fan huffed out a relieved breath- the last thing they needed was to be slowed down by a sickly child. And while it was clear that none of them were hardened killers, at least they weren't useless in a fight. One of the red-haired ones incapacitated a guard by throwing a powder in his face, the originality and resourcefulness of which Fan heartily approved.

As an extra stroke of luck, the one in full military attire turned out to be familiar with the palace layout, and he was able to lead them straight to the airship hangar. When he understood what was going on, the dark-haired one began to panic, and Fan rolled her eyes. At least the rest of them aren't like him, she thought, already annoyed.

Ghel laid out the plan for them, then instructed them to start climbing. The lanky one and his sick leader went first- she appreciated the presence of mind he had to carry his friend up the ladder on his back, instead (as Ghel had inanely suggested) of letting him try to get up there on his own. They were quickly followed by the red-haired one.

The auburn-haired one returned, somehow with a small creature in her arms and two other people in tow, and Fan groaned. This isn't a 'bring your friends' party, kid, she fumed. When the arrows started flying, the group pressed closer to the access tower, trying to present a smaller target, but the military one seemed to lose it completely, running out full-tilt and shouting at the guards as he shot back with a crossbow.

Though she had to admire his guts, it was a good way for him to get himself shot. Since it conferred the advantage of focusing their attention on him, however, Fan capitalized on it by flicking a few efficient knives and watching their victims topple down from their stations, slim blades embedded in their necks. Thanks for the distraction, kid, she thought.

The second red-haired girl climbed up the ladder, followed by the auburn-haired girl and her two new companions. The dark-haired boy simply propelled himself upwards and onto the deck. Hmpf, useful ability, Fan thought appreciatively. This left only the three of them, with the guards closing in and increasing in number- they were running out of time.

"Ghel, take the kid and get up there!" she shouted, lifting the crossbow out of the crazy one's arms. "It'll take at least three of you to get that ship moving, and we need to get out of here now!" She shot down one of the guards and flicked a knife at another.

"That tall kid with the grease stains should be able to help once you get up there- I'll cover you; now GO!" She watched the two scamper up the ladder and out of sight, then she leapt, hooking herself nimbly between two rungs. She would keep shooting until the ship took off and they were at a safe distance. Then the kids could pull up the ladder.

It'll be a miracle if we make it out of here... Fan thought grimly as another swarm of guards showed up on the battlements.
"In life I serve . . . .
. . . . in death I pay."

    —◦✧◦✧◦—

With his soon-to-be-acquired magical compass (and the sickly boy wearing it) now safely on board, Anghel couldn't keep a smirk from creeping across his bandaged face. It was working! And so effortlessly! He'd have to congratulate himself for coming up with such a brilliant plan of course, but only after everyone was safely in the air... and far enough from the military airships he was sure would attempt to follow them.

Two more children soon made their way up the ladder to join the lanky kid and his sick friend. Perfect. "This is going exactly as planned," he said out loud to no one in particular. In a few more moments, the famously lavish and irreplaceable Jewel of Phaland would be his very own. Of the thousands of things Anghel had swiped during his rogueish career, this one was undeniably the best... the jewel of his collection, so to speak.

Not everyone was thrilled by his brilliant selection of flying apparatus, however. The skittish child in the gray cloak was an obvious example, but not one Anghel was currently concerned with. No, it was the miserable military boy who'd served as their navigator that was his biggest problem.

"Who the hell do you think you are?" Caspian had demanded, pointing a finger at Anghel as though he were some type of disappointed mother figure to the teal-haired man. "You can't just steal the Jewel -- that's breaking the law! What are you, some kind of pirate?"

Anghel couldn't help but laugh at the last part of his sentence, completely unafraid of this boy's considerable rage. "Some kind of pirate? Pffff, as if. I'm only the most infamous sky rogue in all of Ahressa, wanted dead or alive on over three hundred islands, and that's just this side of Phaland! Anghel Galaxias Rosenbloom, at your service," he stated proudly, bowing in a mocking manner. The pirate then raised an eyebrow at the infuriated figure before him. "You... haven't heard of me, have you? That hurts, kid."

Before Caspian had a chance to violently reveal Anghel's magical regeneration ability to all of his newfound companions, a near-miss from an arrow drew his attention elsewhere. Bolting away in a blur of expletives which he found quite amusing, the teal-haired man turned his attention to where he'd previously been looking. One of the orphan girls was now running frantically in their direction, carrying an animal of some sorts and having brought two unfamiliar companions with her. At least it appeared she knew which ship they'd be leaving on.

Dodging arrows with the practiced elegance of someone who'd done just that at least a hundred times before, Anghel breathed a sigh of relief when the girl and her new friends made it on deck along with the scared boy who'd used a very different method of boarding, one he had to admit looked extremely fun.

Fan's voice cut through the chaos as sharply as one of her blades, and Anghel offered her an only half-mocking salute before turning his attention to Caspian. "You heard the nice lady," he added sarcastically, waiting until the uniformed youth had taken a few steps up the ladder to begin climbing himself. To be so nimble while wearing heels was a feat all its own, but not one Anghel had time to be proud of. Fan had instructed him to seek out the kid with the grease stains, and it seemed a promising plan.

Once on board however, Anghel first needed to deal with the safety of these orphaned children. Choosing to address the sick one that appeared to serve as their unofficial leader of sorts, Anghel couldn't help but notice the way the boy's eyes seemed to sparkle blindingly like miniature prisms as he stared up at the infamous pirate. "Compass boy, I have an order for you... getting out of this mess is going to take some fancy flying, so I need you to make sure all your friends here follow you inside the mana-glass area. Strapping in would be preferable as well, but at the very least, I need every kid who can't help me fly this thing indoors. Can you do that for me?"

Looking more thrilled than any inexperienced child in such a dangerous situation ought to, he nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, sir!"

With that problem presumably dealt with, Anghel could now focus his attention on the most important part of his mind-blowingly brilliant plan... actually flying off in the Jewel of Phaland with his newfound crew.

"Those of you who can help, follow me!" Hardly slowed down at all by his fabulous footwear, Anghel's long teal hair fluttered behind him as he lead the others to the flight deck. Once he caught sight of the hundreds of magnificent gadgets as lovely as any work of fine art, a manic grin appeared across his face.

"Oh hell yes," the pirate enthused, looking to the others for confirmation of just how amazing this magnificent machine really was.

Nao vigorously rubbed his eyes when he saw Amaya bolt out of the hangar- did she decide not to come after all? There was no time to dwell on it, as first Liz and then Ever joined them up on the ship in quick succession. Meanwhile, those on the ground were currently fending off or dodging volleys of arrows from the guards posted on the walls, who were quickly getting reinforcements, and Nao wondered if there was actually a chance of them making it out of there without sustaining severe injury.

Amaya returned, carrying her fox and accompanied by two of the people they'd seen in line earlier. Nao didn't have time to wonder at this new development as the three of them climbed onboard, while Omo vaulted up in one jump and then promptly disappeared inside, away from the action.

The only one of their group still on the ground was Caspian, and Nao felt his heart drop down into his stomach when he totally lost it and ran out to meet the arrows, crossbow in hand and cursing at the guards. You idiot! he thought in horror. You're in uniform, Cas, not full plate armor!

He wanted to jump back down there, pull his friend out of harm's way, get him up onto the ship and to safety. Luckily, at that moment, the teal-haired man's companion took Caspian's crossbow from him and ordered them both onto the ship while she covered for them. They quickly scampered up the ladder, and Nao drew back in relief as they boarded.

"Those of you who can help, follow me!" the teal-haired man said. Nao complied, following him and Caspian to the Jewel's nerve center. When he saw the marvelous array of gleaming buttons, levers, and various knobs, Nao paused for a moment, mesmerized. "Oh hell yes," the pirate said, grinning manically and all but rubbing his hands together. Nao grinned right back at him, then shook his head to snap out of it- they weren't safe yet, and there would be plenty of time for gloating and ecstatic examination after they got out of there and made their escape.

Crossing the room in two long strides, he reached up for a pair of levers and turned a wheel about halfway, beginning the prep sequence for airship takeoff and starting up the engine. Caspian, presumably, would be the pirate's co-pilot and navigator, so Nao could take care of the basics.

He checked the various meters and readouts, then nodded over at the pair.

"She's ready," he declared, unable to keep the grin from his face. He was about to live his dream and fly an airship.
"What was broken . . . .
. . . . can be fixed."

Liz watched from the decking as Caspian had some sort of outburst (she couldn't hear the words, but she was fairly certain it was directed toward the teal-haired pirate -who looked rather amused with the whole situation). Now was... not really the time for arguments -something that was becoming more and more apparent to Liz as her pouch of slingshot ammo was getting lighter and lighter- and she quietly wished Caspian would get on the ship. Quickly.

Fortunately, he did just that, closely followed by the very man he'd been bickering with seconds earlier. Omotholo was quick to hop aboard as well, and Liz was fairly certain that she saw Amaya climb up the ladder (though, the two familiar strangers following her made Liz wonder if she was just seeing things).

When Hope called them over, Liz cast one last stone toward a guard (leaving only one left in her bag), and half-sprinted half-skipped toward the entryway where Hope was holding the door open. Pausing only to wonder whether the fancy mahogany table within was bolted down or not, she promptly plopped into one of the velvet seats (which was softer than anything she had ever touched) and strapped in. She shot a wordless grin accompanied by a double thumbs up toward the doorway.

The cloudless sky stretched for miles and miles, ducking between rooftops and spires like a playful bluebird. Weather like this was perfect for mucking about in an airship; he could almost see why you would want to steal such a beautiful aircraft. The delicate elegance of the Jewel complemented the picture-perfect atmosphere.

Maybe picture-perfect wasn't the best word to describe the current situation. Another arrow stuck into the exposed earth between two cobblestones, wobbling like a spring. Caspian could feel a warm substance trickling down his ear; he fired and reloaded without even thinking about it. He was like a machine, just a soul waiting around in this mechanical body until reason could once again take the reins.

Reality came crashing in like a black stallion, throwing its hooves in Caspian's face as his crossbow was yanked from his stiff, wooden hands. The dark-haired companion of Anghel had snatched it from him. He stared at her with a blank expression, not even resisting when he was pushed in the direction of the long, spindly ladder that led up to the Jewel. He began to climb mechanically; it was only when he was halfway up that he realized what he was actually doing, but he was too far up to back down. Plus, there were two others behind him. Considering the fact that royal guards were swarming below them, up was probably a better place to be.

"Those of you who can help, follow me!"

Anghel's command presented Caspian with a choice. But at this point, he was frankly tired of choosing, and decided that maybe surviving this day was the best answer for any more questions that presented themselves. Here, the group began to split up. Hope led the other orphans to the mana-glass area, while Caspian joined Anghel and Nao at the bow of the airship, where the heart of the Jewel lay quiet.

Caspian paused at the entryway, watching as Nao began to jolt the Jewel to life. He could feel a purr beneath his feet as the airship powered up. Caspian lived, breathed, and spoke airship; he felt most at home when plotting out a new course and feeling the ebb and flow of air currents as he handled the wheel. To him, the sound of the engine whirring was like your lover's voice being the first sound you heard as the sun broke the horizon.

Was he really ready to risk it all? To begin the voyage he never thought possible? Earlier today, he would have refused the offer without hesitation, but now that he could practically taste success... The allure was too strong for him to oppose. Caspian slid out the silver pin that fastened his blue military cloak, and it dropped to the floor in a puddle around his feet. There was his choice; the seemingly meaningless action meant everything to him.

Caspian relocated himself to the navigational panel, where he began repositioning the sub-thrusters and punching in commands that would begin as soon as Anghel took the wheel -- he could only assume that was where the teal-haired man would place himself.

Liftoff would occur any moment now. Technically, they were already in the air, but it was a term. Caspian brought a hand to his face and touched the warm wetness that had trailed down his jawline and dripped onto his shoulder. He stared at his blood-stained fingertips dumbly, but realized that if it had been a terrible wound, he would be out already.

Evergreen watched as poor Omotholo headed further into the airship. It had been amazing to see his powers in action, the way he simply floated up without so much as touching the rope the rest of them used to board. It was probably for the best that he went off away from the zooming arrows, she didn't want to have to deal with that kind of surgery right off the bat. She frowned, well aware that he was anxious and sad that she couldn't actually do anything to help him yet. Her main concern was ensuring everyone was getting aboard in a timely manner, and getting on uninjured. Should both of those things pass her meticulous, visual tests, she would seek the younger boy out and offer him the comfort she knew he needed. If she were in his shoes, she figured she would also be looking for the nearest hiding place. At least that way if this whole thing failed, he would be more likely to just get arrested than shot on sight. Hopefully none of that would come to pass.

With Omotholo safely on board, she glanced to Anghel, whom she had overheard speaking his name sometime before, as he commented about everything going to plan. His name was as much a head-ful as it was a mouthful, she hoped just Anghel would suffice. She had to admit so far...sure, so good. But they were hardly out of the woods...sky, yet.

Seemed like soon enough however, everyone was on board. Hope was safe, and she was kneeling next to him as she watched him. She tore her eyes from her pale-haired friend and looked up to Anghel who kept insisting on calling them all kids. She'd correct him some other time when their lives weren't in peril. She listened to the words he spoke, and offered a hand to Hope as if to get the ball rolling herself after he replied with a hearty 'yes sir'. She wouldn't be following Anghel. She had no idea how to pilot this ridiculous contraption. Her skills were healing, and everyone would just have to deal with that. She could learn on the fly, humor aside.

While Hope held the golden door open for everyone else, she waited alongside him. He might not be apt to leave anyone behind, but she would make sure he wouldn't leave himself behind in the process. Everything about the ship could be observed later. She had noticed at first glance how expensive the place seemed to be, but once they were far away from the attacking guardsman, then she could have a look around and scoff at the sheer gall the king had to build something so luxurious while people in his kingdom suffered. Typical regency.

She followed Hope closely. She knew made her just look like a concerned mother or insistent puppy who wanted something from its master. She didn't care. After that fit of his, she needed to make sure he was well enough to keep going at the pace she knew he wanted, of the pace she knew they needed. They had reached a room of velvety pillows, where she grimaced at the intricacy of it all. Whatever happened to modesty? Hope went on about strapping in as Anghel had indicated shortly before, which she was about to start doing when Hope was bolting off again. "Hope?" She called to him, but didn't wait for a response when she hurriedly followed after him because she wasn't willing to risk it. She knew she looked silly, if not flat out obnoxious, but a promise was a promise and a promise she would keep! At least Liz had some sense to sit down and gave her a return thumbs up on the way out.

When she heard Hope calling out for Omotholo, she looked around to see where the younger boy had went. "Omo?" She called out, hoping their combined voices would garner the attention of their young friend.

The sound of footsteps approached the door just as Omotholo had found his corner and pulled his hood over his head, curling into an overlookable ball of grey somewhere on the side of the room. Had the soldiers already managed to board? At the very least, they'd only see him if they tried looking, in part thanks to the odd nature of his cloak.

Even so, at least one familiar voice managed to reach his ears, and from the sound of things, they hadn't been pursued. Slowly, Omotholo lifted his head, eyes widened. The trio that had begun to make their way around the cabin's array of levers and indicators were friendly--well, mostly--though the boy nonetheless felt compelled to hide his presence anyway. Spots of red that weren't there before decorated Caspian's portion of the controls, though Omotholo was no healer; patching him up would have to be a job for someone else.

Though, speaking of entourage of Someone Elses he had come here with, where had they gone? The majority of them had made it aboard before he had himself, so they had to be someplace, certainly--but why they weren't all there together was beyond the boy. The growing rumbles and hisses of the room's machinery masked any outside sounds, leaving the orphan alone in a room with three people who were likely very, very busy, and would not appreciate any sorts of interruptions at that point in time.

One of the ornately-plated valves in the back of the room hissed loudly, prompting a muffled, surprised shout from the boy as he recoiled in surprise, slumping back toward the wall of his tucked-away hiding spot. He might not have known much about airships, but he certainly knew when things were about to move.

And very quickly, at that.

"Finally finished." Sima said after he drew the last line on the talisman. It glowed gold for a couple of seconds before dimming as if nothing special happened. He looked at Lucien and sighed, "How tiring... your Father should learn not to work me out that much, this work isn't easy."

Sima then started cleaning up his materials and putting it back into its containers. "Let's go, I need some rest...." He said although he planned to read books the whole night and only rest for an hour or two. Even at sleep, Sima would still be doing productive in his dreams like digesting everything he read and making plans for when he wakes up. Compared to other people, Sima can enter Lucid Dreams at will, it was something he learned while he was a kid. He appreciated the action of rest but still thought that it's kinda a waste to be doing nothing at all.

The duo left the ship's core and began to ascend towards the deck when Sima abruptly stopped. "One...Two...Multiple people are on board the ship. How interesting." He said before taking a left in the hallway towards the stairs that leads to the bridge. He silently walked towards the door and opened it. He looked at the three familiar people busy with operating the ship systems trying to have it take off.

"Oh? A hijack? I assume we're also being kidnapped. How interesting." Sima said in 'surprise' as he looked at the group who are hijacking the airship. He looked at Lucien and said in a calm face that doesn't look a single bit scared, "I never imagined myself being kidnapped, in the Jewel of Phaland of All Places. Interesting...."

"I think there needs to be some talking..."
He then looked back to the group and added as talismans began to fly out from inside his sleeves with some sticking itself to the ship systems making it impossible to move and the rest floating in the air and glowing in different colors.
