FOLLOW THE LIGHTNING
"If you say it was HItoshi it was him. ... You know him as well as anyone." Ryoma cut in.

His attention centered on Mono as she carried out her inspection of Hitoshi's laptop. He soon after turned back to Anya.

"Just wanted to see if you had any lingering doubts. You know, anything that was off about him other than his drunken ramblings..."

Ryoma couldn't ignore a pang of guilt for having asked the question, seeing how it clearly made matters worse than helped them. Though, he could at the very least ignore the possibility of a phantom doppelganger for the moment.

"Sorry to make you doubt yourself." He added, before making his way into the room.

The last thing any of them needed was to have their only eye witness doubting themselves. And as Ryoma knew from experience, it didn't feel all that great either. Once in the room, he began helping Mono collect the scattered papers on the floor. Unraveling the crumpled notes and receipts, he straightened them as best as he could, before handing them to the tech wizard.

"My best guess, is that Hitoshi was here looking for something. Given he didn't stay long... What? I've no clue." With a shrug he announced his theories to the group to get an idea of what their conclusions might be. He wasn't sure about the others, but for his part he was grasping at straws. Though, in times like these he found doing something, anything, was better than nothing. If it came down to it he could go scouring the entire district until morning, but he knew that may end up costing too much valuable time. Settling on there having to be something in the room that would give them at hint, he pressed the issue of little information.

"Have these always been here?" he asked pointing a thumb towards the carboard mountain. There had to be an explanation behind their existence in the room.

_______________

His mind would eventually return to the voicemail he had received, and with it he risked adding a further question to the growing list.

"Did everyone get the same voicemail? ... Did anyone notice a repeated phrase? A word?"

There was a chance that the cryptic ramblings could in fact be a clue in themselves, if their group could just make coherent sense of them.

________________

While it wasn't his habit to take charge and issue orders, Ryoma couldn't ignore the fact he was the eldest among the room. After a bit of discussion and further standing around he proposed someone to go investigate the outside of the bar.

"Can one of you two go check the back alleyway? ... See if there's any signs of HItoshi having left that way?"

PASSERI PARK'S ULTRA PASSIONATE MELODY ONSLAUGHT

Pascal jumped slightly at the sudden announcement on the mic. It seemed his conversation with Gavril and Milo would have to be cut short. Maybe they could talk again during the next commercial break, or after the challenges. Depending on the type though, some may not still be on stage later.

"Good luck, guys," he said, turning back to Miles. His eyes didn't stay on the announcer for long though, as the whole stage and backdrop seemed to change. The walls and the platform below them opened up and showed their inner machinations as they descended slightly with the lowering floor.

Apparently, going forward, things would be different, according to Miles. Five holes were presented in front of the contestants, all of them the entrance of pipes that seemed to go deeper into the set, snaking around until they each opened back up at a different course. Pascal squinted, trying to see if he could discern what each possible course would be. They were all too far or obscured from here, though, so how challenging the next round would be for him may just be left to fate.

He had his eye on the third hole, as that seemed to connect to the pipe with the most red in its coloration, but before he could so much as take a step towards it, the blond found himself airborne. His eyes widened a bit as he ended up midway in an involuntary somersault. Looking down, he noticed he was heading straight towards the opening of pipe one. He allowed his body to liquidize and landed with a splash on the pipe's interior, protecting himself from any injuries that could have occurred due to an awkward fall. He quickly returned to his human form, readjusting himself to take a seated position as the pipe carried him towards his destination.

SCENE:
Phoenixes Arc 3: Scene 2 [Tactical Mayhem]
LOCATION:
CDPD-HQ, Upper Central District
PARTICIPANTS:
Ashley, Boltius, Eric, Gideon, Inigo, Roza, Tatsuya
TACTICAL MAYHEM
Ashley stared down the long-haired officer, remaining silent as he listened to a stream of questions. He gave no response, simply looking back and forth between the man and the Phoenix at his feet. He was pissed right now, but that wasn't what stopped him from engaging in conversation. He just didn't know what the fuck this guy was saying. Only half of the words made any sense to him, forcing him to fill in the gaps with his imagination.

"Bwuhck off. I ain't answerin' shit."

In the end, it didn't really matter if he understood what was being asked. Ashley wouldn't have responded any differently. He was brash and reckless, but he knew better than to go around spilling information to the enemy. He wasn't exactly in a talking mood anyway.

As the batter took his stance, Ashley eyed the lit flare that rolled across the floor. When it neared his side of the room, he took advantage of the opportunity and made his move. He kicked, launching the flare back at the enemy as it belched out a crimson plume.

Using the cover of the smoke, he charged in, powerful steps carrying him forward. Keeping his body low to the ground, he reached out, determined not to waste the opening he created. However, instead of striking, he ignored the officer. He had his eyes set on someone else

He grabbed the unconscious Phoenix and pulled. As soon as her unconscious body made it into his arms, he backed off, retreating just as quickly as he approached. He returned to his previous position, stopping only a few steps away from the entrance.

Careful not to let his eyes stray from the cop for too long, he set Dynamik on the floor, letting her back rest against the wall. He was uncharacteristically gentle as he moved her, trying not to rock her too much and risk making her injuries worse. Right now, her safety was top priority.

Phoenixes were supposed to look out for their own. They always had each other's backs, winning and struggling together. It took a long time for him to embrace that, hesitant after being burned more than twice when it came family. It wasn't until the hurricane that he started to have a change of heart, confronted by terrible destruction and the resulting deaths. After being forced to relive his darkest day, he decided to push back against anything that threatened to take away the things that were important to him.

People died every day. It was expected in this line of work, and it was impossible to save everyone. He accepted that, not dumb or caring enough to believe he could play superhero. However, if he could do something, he was going to do it. He wasn't going to let one of his own die in front of him. Not again. Never again.

Removing his jacket, Ashley tossed it over Dynamik, letting it cover her battered body like a safety blanket. "Keep an eye on that for me. Velvet worked hard on it."

With the wounded taken care of, he refocused, setting his gaze back on Oliver. As he did so, he picked up the sound of static, followed by a familiar voice. He didn't expect Bolt to answer the call himself, but he wasn't complaining. It gave him even more motivation to wrap things up before help arrived. He didn't want to disappoint the new Ace.

"Sorry, no time for bullshittin'." He couldn't take things slow and savor this fight. This was a job, and he was short on time. With that in mind, he went to work.

There was no one else between them now, so Ashley could give the officer his undivided attention. Like before, he rushed in, readying the heavy baton in his hand. He raised it above his head, prepared to bring it down on the guy's skull. However, he never followed through. Instead, he quickly adjusted his position, dashing to his opponent's side and swinging the metal pole at his jaw.

Kasumi Katsura - Azure Dragons - Veteran [CS LINK]
Scene - Dragons Arc 3- Scene 1: Securing the Future
Location - East District, Tech Expo Security room
Mentions/Interactions - Sophia ( azenva azenva ), Jesper ( AriAriAbabwa AriAriAbabwa ), Amari ( angel doe angel doe )

Kasumi felt like she was going to throw up.

Breathing in the fresh air, her hands were gripping a nearby railing. She was dressed semi-formally for this event. The stench of a dead body didnt exactly sit well with her stomach. Thank the gods she didnt eat yet. For a moment, the comfort of her own home was extremely tempting.

No, you need to stay.

Her phone pinged. Glancing at the screen, it was files on people in attendance at the expo from Jesper. If she had to guess, these were the likely suspects. By now, the others were probably getting to work and asking questions.

How embarrassing. Kasumi needed to be better than this.

Gathering herself and taking one final breath, she stood up straight and went back into the building. As she walked, she accessed her phone with her Potential, quickly committing the data of the suspects to memory. Much faster than reading it manually.

Her eye caught the glint of a lens. At the corner of the hallway was a security camera. And if there were cameras, there would be a security room

If you asked someone a question, they could misguide you, lie. But technology never fails to paint a clear picture. Kasumi quickly accessed the camera, tracing its signal back to its source as she walked through the halls. At the same time, she sent Jesper a quick message.

"Sorry for my absence. I'm going to investigate the security footage and see if there are any clues there."

Eventually, Kasumi found herself towards the back of the building, away from most of the public. There was a single metal door with the label "SECURITY" on it. On the wall was an ID scanner. She waved her hand over the scanner, and the light turned green, unlocking the door.

The girl stepped through, greeted by the sight of many computer screens, showing different camera feeds throughout the building. One of the guards inside glanced up as the door shut and immediately stood up, reaching for his weapon.

"You cant be here ma'am."

Before Kasumi could say anything, another guard, seemingly older, stopped the first one.

"Woah woah woah, its fine. She's on the list."

The second guard looked back to Kasumi, a sheepish smile on his face.

"Sorry 'bout that. He's new. What can I help you with?"
"I just need to inspect the security system, make sure it's operating normally."
"Of course. Here."

The second guard pointed to an empty desk with a computer on it.

"All yours."

Kasumi nodded, walking over and sat down. She glanced around as everyone returned to their duties. Once she was sure no one was paying too close attention to her, she access the network through her potential, beginning to scrub through all the recorded video leading up to the time of the murder.

Camila, Jennifer, Maria, Ryutaro, Samira, Sylvie
THE HEIST

Leaning forward from where he sat, Sylvie examined the map in silence as Samira asked her question. Despite the fear creeping through his body at the task ahead, he let the more ambitious side of him control his thoughts. The mission would likely force him to do things that go against his principles. Only if he was very lucky or very dead would he be able to avoid inflicting serious injuries on those guards, and that’s not evening mentioning the worst he might have to do. Despite that, he couldn’t ignore what a success here could mean for him and his future. He could get out of his debt hole with this, and he’d be a fool not to capitalize on that, right? And then he could forge his own path, one where he didn't have to rob banks.

But could any amount of profit hide from him the blood on his hands?

“So, we will all be going through to the vault?” Sylvie started off with a question, and though it was framed as a rhetorical one, he couldn’t help but hope that a non-violent opportunity would be presented at this moment. Unhopeful, he pressed on, “Will you be providing weapons for us?” It was pretty clear at this point that his dolls would not be of much use here.

Raquel pursued her lips. "See, what did I say? Mr. Snowy is looking all grumpy and tired." She swung the arms around Yukito, shaking them in to appeal to some melodrama. Though for the sake of her cute little brother, she remained quiet as pigeon nest told them his HP. As distasteful of an HP as it was, it still had some uses and was probably more helpful than hers.

The time for action came. Once Hector spoke up, she immediately stopped her little play. Leaning back up and pressing her hands against Yukito's shoulders, she listened to the plan. Hector would take bluey and outoto to the parking lot and enter from a side entrance. Snowy and herself went through the main entrance while Snipey Wipey stayed behind and provided tactical support if needed.

Though the main thing was that she was going with Hide, that man would take her through the casino's main entrance. "How romantic~" Raquel said to herself. Removing her arms from Yukito, she twirled around and took Hide's hands instead. "Looks like we're going together, sweetheart," Pulling them up, she shot Hide a sweet smile that reflected their situation.

To think Hector would appoint this man as her escort. Such a kind gesture. After knowing her for a while, Hector knew what type of people she preferred. Though realistically speaking, Raquel would have preferred anyone that compotent and strong. Usually those types of people were tasty. Unfortunately, Bird poop was a Phoenix. Didn't eliminate the fact that it felt nice having someone lead her in to a grand feast.

She kissed his hands gently before giving some attention to her cute, cute brother. "Good luck, Pluto~ Remember to impress Pharaoh." This was an important time, after all. While Hector could probably handle the entire situation by himself, Blublu and the cutest youngest have their pull weight. Otherwise, she'd be disappointed in both of them.

"Whenever you're ready." Raquel's voice had suddenly become dead, emotionless. Her eyes no longer have affection in them. She let go of one of his hands and held the other tightly. "Better not keep everyone waiting."

SENTRY ACTIVATED

The girl with blue hair arose from the Earth. Clumps of dirt were caught in her beautiful hair and dirtied her dress. Her vacant expression examined the area before locking onto the main gate. Rising up from the ground, she began to walk over toward her target location.

Peaking over the open window, her nose caught the stench of tobacco and smoke. Her eyes furrowed at the sight of a man writhing in pain. Chains slowly manifested out of her stomach and slithered toward the old man on the ground.

This did not go unnoticed. "Eh? Ahri? You're activated?" Hubert asked. Even though he was in pain, he somehow maintained a straight dialogue with the silent woman. He laughed. "So that means the base is attacked after all, huh? What bad luck." The chains slowly wrapped around his body.

"Oh, man. This was bound to happen, seeing how Boss-nim was going. I'm telling you, Ahri, the kid shouldn't have been playing house. If the Professor was still here, he'd-" Was cut off as the girl suddenly spun around at rapid speed.

Everything became a blur to Hubert as he was swung out of the main gate. He crashed through the windows, slammed into several hard surfaces, and spun through the air.

The girl calculated the trajectory and air resistance and confirmed the target. The coordinates were sent to her. At the right time, she canceled her HP. The chains disappeared, and Hubert was sent flying to the other side of the lab. After confirming the tossing of Hubert, she made her way to the other side of the lab as well.

FILTH IN THE GUTTER
Yuto could barely keep up. One second- he was just about to pounce on his pink-eyed friend, the next? He fell from the ceiling, his body moving without permission further into the chaos. All he could focus on were the flames. Where had they come from? What was happening? He jaw hung open, still in shock. Why couldn't he catch up. Is like his brain was put on pause.

Flames. Where was his friend?

Yuto blinked. How many times has it been now that he's been faced with flames? From the docks- entirely Sang-cheol's fault- now this? He didn't even know how this one started... Was someone attacking the lab? He blinked again. He had to focus. If they were being attacked- he had to remain vigilant. Not get stuck on useless-... attacked. did that mean-

He licked his dry lips, the hairs on his neck and arms rising. He called out in a weak voice, "..Mimi?.." He swallowed spit, licking his lips once more. He raised his voice in a panic, his eyes roaming frantically across the burning room. "MIMI?! MIMI!"

Before he realized it his feet were moving. Everywhere he stepped hurt. Either by debris, flames, broken- shit. Yuto supposed there were downsides to going barefoot all the time after all. This was going to be hell to heal later. His eyes caught sight of someone squirming on the ground. Was that.. her? Then again- she couldn't be the only person he sees hurt here- but...

He quickly approached, ignoring the biting pain shooting up his legs. "MIMI? IS THAT YOU?" Just as he'd started to doubt, his clouded vision caught sight of her orange head of hair through the flames. Was she-.. stuck? Why wasn't she getting up? His pace quickened.

"Mimi?! Are- are you okay?" His bloodied feet stopped just by her head. He peered down, trying to figure out just what was wrong. As his eyes trailed down her body, he finally noticed the truck that had decided to perch on her legs like some kind of mechanical cat. His eyes widened. He blurted out, "ARE YOUR LEGS CRUSHED?! OH MY GOD-" As panic started to set in, a feeling of hopelessness spread over him as he gripped his hair...His jaw tightened as his eyes darkened in realization. His friend was hurt. He was doing nothing to help. He bit the inside of his lip until he tasted the metallic taste of blood. He will face his punishment later.

Yuto darted forward, shifting his hand just underneath the truck, by the driver's side of the door, and squatted down to prepare himself. With a strained grunt, he lifted, his nails digging into the metal. With a quick huff of breath, he pressed his foot to the truck, and kicked with all his might, the strength of his arms pushing as well adding onto it. The car screeched not too far, before tilting backwards- flipping over. He panted, his palms flexing and his feet aching. The three eyed man rushed forward, offering his support to the previously trapped woman. "I'm so sorry.. I'm sorry.. " He couldn't tell if he was asking for forgiveness from her... or himself.

LOCATION:
CDPD-HQ, Upper Central — Records Room, 3rd Floor
PARTICIPANTS:
Ashley, Boltius, Eric, Gideon, Inigo, Roza, Tatsuya
TACTICAL MAYHEM
“Bwuhck off. I ain't answerin' shit,” said the Phoenix, mocking Oliver’s dialogue, at which the corner of the officer’s lips twitched amusedly. Haughty enjoyment was quickly replaced by a look of surprise, however, when the—he assumed Phoenix—kicked the red smoke flare into his face and executed a daring maneuver to move his ally to safety.

The girl, identity unbeknownst to Lawless barring his suspicions, was now a greater distance away than what measurements could account for.

Somehow, he felt it.

A fire burning; heat repelling. But there was no fire… Rather, an illusion born purely from whatever drove the boy, threatening and fierce, and Oliver scoffed to see it. These gangsters and their passion- Better yet, their delusions… Staring into those deep, teal eyes through the hazy, red atmosphere, Oliver saw someone else for a moment…

As a result, he wavered, and Ashley charged.

Oliver stood like a deer in the headlights, his mind somewhere far away, as the baton went up, made a last second adjustment, then drummed him across the jaw, sunglasses flying from the impact as his, Oliver’s, body twisted, tumbled, and rolled. It only stopped once met with a pile of disarranged filing cabinets, at which point, using the bat he’d somehow kept hold of, he willed himself to his feet in a hurry and spat blood, wiping his face with an arm.

The flare had run out now, exhaling only a thin ribbon of red smoke that would, also, soon cease.

Oliver’s bat struck the floor, eliciting a grating CRACK. Then it did so again three more times, each strike landing harder than the one before, and the third one being a go—as soon as the bat’s metal tasted tile, Oliver dashed forward, dragging the bat along behind him until close enough to the Phoenix that he swiped up, aiming for the underside of his chin.

Having missed, without hesitation, Oliver ducked low and spun, and just before his bat would have taken out the Phoenix’s legs, he released the stored impact from his bat as a shockwave of energy with the combined power of the earlier three strikes against the floor.
OLIVER/POST NOTES
— —Oliver's Potential: He can absorb impact through objects and convert it into energy, which he can then release in powerful shockwaves.

Silence for the Damned
"Oh." That was unexpected. "Would you look at that." Guinevere said, with surprise on her breath. Two bodies entered the hall, but only one of them was warm. The other, to which her eyes were quickly glued, that one smelled of death. Her eyes sparked, and she moved towards him with a jolt. Of all the corpses she'd met today, he was the first that spoke, and though it was through vague memories of dusty documents, he was the first she recognized, too.

"I-"

"̴͈͝_̶͗̚ͅ-̴̙̺́+̷̭͐̚x̸̞̼͗^̷̨̀"

Bang.

A dry, metal sting rang through the clinic's hall. Nigh-invisibly, Dagger's bullet flew wide and crumpled against the clinic's architecture, falling limp to the ground. Guinevere, who had dropped to the floor as Dagger pulled the trigger, glanced around the room with wide, surprised eyes, rising from the floor and dusting herself off only when she was sure that another bullet was not about to come.

"Thanks for the heads-up~" She spoke, neither to Charmy nor the once-dead-King, but to something invisible that seemed to loom over her shoulder. Her focus was cast somewhere else, near, yet far. A realm of her own.

"-And sorry, that was rude of me. As I live and breathe- That's what I was about to say, but given the circumstances that would've been kind of insensitive, right?" Not that it had stopped her before. "I've never spoken with a zombie before. Ghosts of zombies, those I just added to my list, but without the intermediary? That's..." She looked him up and down, just to make sure he was what she thought he was, and not just some unfortunate HP.

"Fascinating~" She'd already almost forgotten about the bullet. Her mind was a one-track one, after all, so it was a good thing that hers wasn't the only one she had to rely on.

"̴͈͝_̶͗̚ͅ-̴̙̺́c^̷̨̀ +̷̭͐̚x̸̞̼͗ ^̷̨̀" A whisper, one that only she could hear. A gentle reminder. Where and Who, of there of the five Ws, two of them were presently a threat, and even if she believed in an afterlife, that did not mean that she was eager to enter it.

"Sorry again, I'm still being rude." Guinevere collected herself a touch. Giddy as she might be, there was no use in getting carried away. "You-" She gestured at Roland. "You're a corpse. But before that, you were a King. I read about you. It wasn't in a history book, but it felt like it. And now you're here."

She wondered if arrest warrants were still valid for corpses. Not that it mattered. She was off duty.

"But you?" This time she spoke to Charmy, whom she'd only barely registered the existence of until now. "You're alive. But why are you here? We're the only warm bodies in the building, you know. Maybe you're the necromancer? If you are, then I hope you know that most of these people aren't very grateful for your service. But I am! It's been very educational! So, thank you. Unless you aren't. Then I'd like to ask a second question: Who are you, then?"

Guinevere smiled, warmly. The day was shaping up to be a fun one.

Azure Dragons Arc 3: Scene 3 [Ripples of Stardust]

Omar Ayad was studying the man that he handed the business card to and even noted the response that Mister Sieh is going to be quite busy as Omar Ayad casually thought to himself that if he really knew what Omar was about to do then busy would not even be the right word. The man would simply say that they were going to put him in one of their hotel rooms before a lady would shuffle over and hand a card of their own to Omar and even the lady mentioned that if he was not familiar with the hotels facilities that she would show him to the hotel room B-017 only for Omar to speak. "To be honest; I'm not very familiar with your facilities and I would need a guide to help show me some of your facilities."

Omar would directly at the lady as if sizing her up or maybe to the untrained people it would seem like he was ogling her but the next thing that Omar would say would more or less shock those who were listening. "But rather than take me up to a hotel room, I would rather you show me to a conference room or meeting room as I believe that some of my associates from the Eastington house will be joining us soon and if we cannot meet with Mister Sieh today then we can turn this into a business meeting for other matters of the Eastington house. Though I would advise to be kinder to them as they are very sensitive. "

Omar would first tap on his pants pocket twice where his hidden cellphone is located as it sent a quick text to Omar's other associate. Omar would gracefully bow towards the lady who was offering to show him to his room. "Pardon my manners, I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself to you. I am known as Omar Ayad a humble book shop owner would you be so kind to grace this humble man with your honorable name?"

Meanwhile located at one of the streets opposite the Zhanzhang resort; an unmarked van is watching the protesters but inside the van there is group of people. The driver of the van would get a text message from Omar as the driver turns to the other passengers as he read the message out loud. "Ten minutes if you don't hear from me, begin the operation. Alright boys and girls time to arm up. " The passengers in the van would take that cue to begin loading up their assault rifles with a new magazine, clocking the bolts, checking the breech, checking their spare magazines, switching the safety on so as not to make a misfire, checking their blades, attaching a bayonet and making sure that they put on their masks. The driver of the van would smirk before wiping his pumpkin lapel pin and it looks like everyone has got one too.

Ashley tightened his grip on his baton as he watched the officer rise to his feet. It was surprising to see him recover so quickly. Hell, it was a shock to see him get up at all. Cracked him in his damn jaw and he's still movin'. Shades was tougher than he looked.

Ashley's assessment was soon interrupted by a series of loud cracks. Raising a brow, he gave Oliver a confused look as the older man started smacking the ground, each hit looking stronger than the last. What the hell was that about? Was he pissed off because he got sent flying?

"You throwin' a tantrum?"

Instead of responding to the taunt with words, Oliver answered by taking a swing at him, charging in faster than expected. Quickly taking a step back, Ashley managed to dodge the blur of a bat, feeling a rush of wind as it nearly grazed his chin. Unfortunately, he wouldn't be as lucky a second time.

Unsteady after suddenly being forced to move, he was too slow to react to the second attack aimed at his legs. An intense pain shot up to his knees as he took the full force of the swing. Knocked off his feet, all he could was grit his teeth and try to stick the landing.

Twisting his body to the side, he rolled as he returned to the ground, trying to lessen the impact and put a bit of distance between him and his opponent. A strong crimson hue momentarily washed over his eyes as he took a knee, immediately turning his attention back to Oliver to make sure he didn't follow up on the hit. As the teal color of his irises returned, he started a mental countdown. He was on the clock now.

Ashley didn't stay stunned for very long, only holding the position by choice. The cop may have been stronger than expected, but he had walked off worse in the past. Still, the guy's strength was unexpected. It definitely hurt more than a hit like that should've. It had to have been the effect of a Potential.

Rather than waste time trying to identify the power he was up against, he shifted his attention to the real problem. Dynamik may have been moved out of the way, but she was still at risk of getting caught in the crossfire. There was no guarantee the cop wouldn't suddenly decide to finish the girl off in the middle of the fight. Aside from that, Ashley also had to worry about accidentally roughing her up if he went all out. He needed more space before he could go wild.

"That it?" There was more energy in his voice now. With the pain already dulled, a rage-fueled smirk stretched across his masked face. He put more strength into his leg, and the ground beneath him shook a bit in response. Unlike the bat that previously struck the floor, his foot managed to break through tile.

Pushing off the ground, he rushed the officer without warning, leaving behind a trail of shards that fell from his sneaker. Instead of being worn down by the bone-breaking bash, he came out of it feeling even better. In addition to being strong enough to damage the floor with his starting step, he was faster now.

Like a rampaging rhino, he slammed into Oliver with no intention of letting the sudden contact stop him. Pushing with all of his might, he looked ahead, beyond the cop. Rather than try to knock Oliver on his ass, he wanted to move him as far as possible, aiming for the large hole in the wall. Determined to move away from Dynamik and get rid of any thoughts that didn't have to do with the fight, he shoved with unnatural strength, barreling through like a freight train that didn't care what was on its tracks.

As he observed his surroundings, Eric took notice of a sudden reduction in sunlight. Looking up to the sky, he noticed a small, lone cloud which conveniently covered the sun momentarily. The cop wasn't one to be superstitious, but he couldn't help but almost feel as it was a bad omen.

Eric had been assigned to respond to a report of vandalism at a boulevard located around four miles from HQ. In a vacuum, this didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary, chaos is the city's middle name after all. But the problem lied in how, just a while ago, he was doing a great job at pretending to file paperwork just as his associates got flooded by a myriad of calls, all of them all of them about unknown people causing mayhem at very close intervals to each other.

This reeked of an organized maneuver.

Eric approached the vandalized cars, according to the caller, a group of six or so unrecognized people started beating on the vehicles without any sort of rhyme or reason. They were absolutely wrecked; punctured tires, shattered windshields, unrecognizable bumpers and even a few completely torn apart doors. He approached one of the aforementioned doors and inspected it. The upper rear corner was deformed into a pseudo-U-shape, with smaller indentations in it.

Someone had ripped the door out with their bare hands...This was the work of HPs. Unfortunately said HPs had already disappeared without leaving a single trace.

Eric grabbed his walkie from his utility belt, holding it up very close to his face, but things went south with the device the moment he attempted to communicate.

"HQ, this is Detective Evensen, the perpetrators aban-"

His message was interrupted by the walkie releasing a loud, screeching sound as well as a violent sudden shock, which made the detective flinch as a wave of pain ran through his hand, not letting go of the device, though. He placed the walkie into his other hand, whipping the other quickly as to shake off the sting.

Another cloud covered the sun again just as the officer understood the gravity of the situation.

Decoys.

Eric wasted no time getting into his patrolling car, which was stationed just a few dozen meters from where he was standing. The engine roared with a quick turn of the key, a tough sole slamming into the gas. As the vehicle traveled at high speed through the streets of Upper Central, Eric reached for the comm over at the car's dashboard, but pressing his thumb over the input button met him once again with that loud screech. It was so obvious in hindsight, a large-scale disturbance that would force the CDPD to deploy the bulk of its manpower out of HQ, and the perpetrator behind it was clear as day.

One of the four great gangs had decided to stir up trouble big time.

“Gunfire on the second floor!”“Officer Maynard, moving in!”“Prioritize civilian evacuation!”“We need to identify the culprits!”“How many are there?”“Man down in Emergency Stairwell two! Seems we’re facing- GAH!”“What’s the situation!?”

At last, communication was recovered, somehow. It looked like whatever was disrupting the signal, it only affected those outside of a certain range. Unfortunately, it also meant that Eric's fears had just been confirmed.

A few minutes later, he finally arrived at the HQ, a chaotic congregation of people scattered around the building's vicinity, a mixture of mainly civilians and a few cops. Eric placed his hand on one of the anxious officer's shoulders.

"I'll be heading inside; I need to check for any civilians that may be captured or hiding. I want you to organize a group and follow in ten minutes."

He didn't need to elaborate, the situation was clear and there was little time to stop and think, it was time to act. He pushed his way through civilians and police, walking towards the entrance as both of his hands started to emanate pale blue light, in the shape of amorphous orbs that enveloped up to his wrists. Inside the building, the loud sound of the fire alarm rang ceaselessly. Whether there really was a fire or not mattered little, his objective was all the same: Neutralizing the hostiles and helping out the civilians, whatever happened to the building was below those priorities, worst case scenario, they'd end up with several thousands in damages, a low price to pay by comparison.

Once past the registration room, he looked around; It was hard to judge how many hostiles may be around with the fire alarm going off like that, he would have to proceed cautiosly. Or at least, that was supposed to be the intended approach.

With almost no time to react, Eric was able to move his upper body to the side, dodging an incoming knife stab aimed at his face from his right, a tall man of bronze complexion and blonde hair was behind the assault, it seemed like at least one of them had decided to keep guard at the entrance. Without a moment to spare, Eric grabbed the man by the lunging wrist, pulling him closer to land a knee right against his solar plexus. The gangster released most of the air in his lungs with a painful groan, and as he attempted to recover his composture, the Detective raised his free hand, landing a strong hammer fist down into the corner connecting the man's shoulder and neck, the light manipulation enveloping his hand adding some extra momentum into the hit.

The small victory against the man falling down unconscious could not be celebrated, as Eric required to sidestep, avoiding a sword slash from behind. A woman with pale skin and dark hair tied into a low ponytail brandished a tachi.

"...What gang, speak now and we can skip the beating"

The woman spoke no words, grinning as she rushed towards Eric with a practical downwards swing. The cop had to be on the defensive for a moment, the extra reach of her blade made grappling a far riskier move. He continued avoiding her attacks, slow proceeding further down the west hallway, at last he found an opening in her moves as she tumbled after a slight overswing. The light in Eric's right hand extended around two feet in length, taking the shape of a semi-solid "blade". With a quick swing of his energy weapon to the woman's wrists, he managed to make her drop her weapon after flinching by the attack. He then raised his other hand, his open palm concentrating light into a shining orb which got propelled towards the gangster. The powerful impact sent her flying back, clashing against the door of the break room, shattering it into pieces. She immediately lost consciousness as she violently landed against the wall.

Taking a second to assess the situation, Eric noticed a few dark butterflies flying away from the room, while at first he took a defensive stance, he soon realized that they looked somehow...reassuringly familiar. He walked into the break room; perhaps one of his coworkers could be hiding inside. However, as he entered the main area of the room. He took notice of a single man he had never seen before, and judging by his lack of hiding, it was easy to assume this man was neither a cop nor civilian.

"You have five seconds to surrender before I deal with you the same way I did to your friends back there"

THICKER THAN WATER
Peyton gave the man below him an analytical stare as he listened. The accent that flowed out of the man's mouth surprised Peyton, and it made him scour his memory for the times he might have heard that accent. Had he heard it in school? Or was it in the streets? If he had met the teal-clad fellow somewhere, then his accent and mannerisms would've stuck out to him like a sore thumb.

"Huh?" Peyton said dumbly. He suddenly realized that he didn't understand August's response. In fact, he couldn't understand the man's words through his accent without heavily straining.

After letting his brain slowly recognize the man's response, Peyton nodded, a deep frown and his eyebrows furrowed as he thought. Since the man wasn't forgettable, it meant that they had likely never met. But then again, Peyton might've not interacted with the man at school when they were kids. After all, Peyton had been the quiet kid in the back of the class, content to read his books while the teacher droned on. He had only a few friends.

There were so many nuances to the situation that Peyton didn't fathom. The most looming of which was the fact that since Peyton had lived in the West, it would mean that the man couldn't have gone to school with him if he had always been in the North. And if the man had indeed gone to school with him, it would mean that for some reason, someone from the West had decided to move to the North.

"Oh, whoops! I guess you don't like hugs?" Peyton exclaimed after the white-haired man made clear that he was uncomfortable by his proximity. It seemed like Yuto had rubbed off on Peyton; closeness and skinship felt almost natural. Rather abashedly, Peyton stood up and helped the man to his feet. Then, just as the both of them were on their feet, Peyton's senses began to tingle. Someone was behind them!

Just as Peyton turned around, he felt himself get yanked backward as the teal-clad Serpent grabbed Peyton in a constricting hold, ironically invading Peyton's personal space. Peyton's eyes widened at this sudden action, and he attempted to protest vocally, but it was lost to the wind. All Peyton could do was concentrate on breathing, shut his eyes to avoid the minuscule bits of debris that were flying around, and pray that the Serpent who was holding him had a good grip. The air rushed around Peyton's ears, a deafening tsunami of sound. If not for the windbending Serpent's body blocking Peyton from the effects of most of the wind, Peyton bet that the wind would've chilled him to the bone.

Then, just as quickly as it began, it stopped. Peyton opened his eyes and blinked out the dust, then shook himself out of August's grip. In the short time that he had his eyes closed, it felt like so much changed. The struggle with the tattooed man continued, Damian continued his destruction, and a looming monster had appeared out of the mist. But Peyton had his sights on Peacock. She was the most pressing opponent thus far.

"Yeah! Come on down! We can finish this peacefully!" Peyton said, supporting August's words. But he was too enveloped into the atmosphere of the battle, "If you don't wanna, I can give you some motivation! Cause free fun fact number one: You can't fly if your wings are filled with holes. And free fun fact number two: I have a gun!"

Peyton spun his gun in a short and a snappy rifle drill. The spins and twirls eventually led to Peyton holding the barrel of the gun at himself, which he twirled to flip around so that it was aiming at Peacock. He hadn't fired yet, after all, the Dragon way of doing things was to aim for a peaceful resolution. But on the inside, he was hoping that the resolution would never materialize so that Peyton could let himself loose.

"We're finishing the schoolmates topic later," Peyton muttered back to the wind-bending Serpent. It was vexing how Peyton couldn't figure out whether the two of them had gone to school or not, and Peyton was determined to figure it out... later.

As Gideon stared at the couch and sipped his water, a swarm of butterflies entered the room, one of them landing on Gideon's cup. Gideon stared down at the creature, mostly confused. For one, it stopped him from drinking more water. For another, it was odd that there would be butterflies in a police station. Gideon frowned. No, this wasn't a natural occurrence, someone must have been creating them. Gideon swatted the butterfly off of the cup and began swatting away at the rest of the butterflies. Despite knowing how ridiculous he sounded, Gideon pulled out his walkie talkie and said, "Is anyone pulling a prank on me right now? Over."

Then a nagging feeling tickled him. It felt crazy, but Gideon thought that through the roar of the fire alarm, he could hear the sound of fighting. No, that was unlikely. Gideon had just been out in the hallway a few minutes ago, and things had been going smoothly. Was he seriously so unfortunate to have entered the break room at the same time that everything had gone downhill?

The answer was yes. There was a groan of pain, a smacking noise, and a few seconds later, the sound of a body crashing into a wall. Gideon jumped with fright. His heart was pounding insanely, and his limbs felt like jello. He could radio for backup and hide with the hopes of the officer not finding him in the break room. But with a sinking feeling in his heart, he realized that wasn't an option. The butterflies would attract attention, and even as he swatted them away, they never really left. His only option was to face the fight that was coming. From the sound of it, it seemed like the officer who had taken down the people in the hallway was a HP. So even if he couldn't win this fight, Gideon knew that he'd have to stall his opponent until the others could execute the rest of their plan.

So when the officer stepped into the break room and demanded that Gideon give himself up, Gideon simply scoffed, "Surrender? When I've got you right where I want you? Now tell me, why would I do something so silly?"

Gideon turned around slowly, doing his best to imitate a villain reveal. Of course, it wasn't as slow as Gideon wanted, nor as slow as he practiced. It was easier to practice something in the mirror, but when it came to actually performing on stage, those rehearsed actions blurred together in the heat of the moment. With his head tilted up proudly, he stared down at the officer with a derisive sneer. It was surprisingly difficult to do, as the officer was nearly the same height as Gideon. The officer was surprisingly soft looking, his yellow and black ponytail dispelling feelings of intimidation. Of course, the light that radiated from the man's hands made up for that.

"I've rigged the walls of this room with explosives. Make any move against me, and you can kiss your life goodbye," Gideon backed up the bluff by pulling out a detonator that was attached to nothing, "So I suggest you give up on the idea of fighting and bow down to your overlord, the great one and only E-ev-eville."

Gideon attempted to throw his arms wide in a glorious pose, but within two seconds, his pose shriveled down. His face was slightly red with embarrassment. By the lord Satan, his speech sounded so much better in the mirror. Now it just sounded downright stupid. And his alias was the most stupid part of it; Gideon couldn't even say it without his voice breaking. But he had already come so far, and he would just have to make do. Gideon sat down on the couch as if it were a throne, as his legs were about to give out. As if someone wearing a T-shirt essentially saying 'fuck the government, also I have a stomachache' could be king. Using his potential, he projected a thought into the officer's head in order to help reinforce his case.

"It's better to assume that his speech wasn't a lie. The consequences of believing that he's lying are worse than believing he's telling the truth. Besides, this entire situation with the station overrun by people is scary. The best thing to do is stand down for now. After all, this man isn't trying to hurt me yet."

Gideon just prayed that the man didn't have enough common sense to see through the fallacies with the logic that was in those fake thoughts. For one, Gideon had no time to rig the break room in a way that he wouldn't accidentally blow himself up. Secondly, Gideon was hoping that the officer was feeling jittery, hopefully as jittery as Gideon was. There was an old theory of emotion within psychology that stated that emotions stemmed from the interpretation of physiological responses. So therefore, even if the officer was jittery from adrenaline or coffee, Gideon could theoretically transform that into fear. But of course, if his gander about the officer feeling jittery was completely wrong, then Gideon was screwed.

"Now, take a seat, and tell me your name and badge number," Gideon demanded. His throat felt dry. He forced himself to down the rest of his cup of water, then tossed the paper cup away carelessly away.

Things were not going as Ottilie had hoped and she was admittedly quite annoyed. A troubled crease appeared between the girl's brow and her lips pursed slightly with disdain. The two men seemed adamant about taking the fox away although their excuses were flimsy at best. Remember honey, failure is part of the process. Her mother's voice echoed in her head. Although her mother was never officially inducted as a genius or gifted, Ottilie thought her to be one of the smartest people she knew and more often than not, her mother was right. Ottilie needed to approach this situation the same way she would another one of her experiments back in the lab. When the selected methodology was not collecting the results she wanted, she needed to take a step back, reevaluate, and adjust accordingly.

Taking the slip of paper the man had offered them, she flipped it over to see that it was a coupon for a free meal at the resort. While quick to notice the ploy to get them to leave as soon as possible, Ottilie hypothesized that they could have been employees of the resort. It would certainly explain how they had the coupon in the first place.

As the two men prepared to leave, Ottilie leaned over and whispered to Hiram. "Cover your ears." She then took in a deep breath and out of her mouth came a loud, shrieking, wail that could be heard all the way from the other end of the large parking lot they were standing in. Once again, Ottilie had all eyes on her as well as the two men who were just about to walk away. Most onlookers held looks of absolute bewilderment on their faces while a few whispered amongst themselves, jumping to conclusions and glancing over at the two men with contempt and judgment.

Amidst all the confusion, Ottilie subtly waved her hand, immobilizing the arm of the man that was holding onto the little white fox. To the man, it would feel like his arm had suddenly gone completely numb but for the creature, it would be its chance to escape.

THE CANYON OF SECRETS
The tube was dark, lit only by the occasional, thin beam of light that spilt in from the small, plastic windows that lined the shaft. On either end of him, Brock could hear the exhilarated wails of other contestants. Through the windows, he could see other contestants starting to mill about, already dropped into their first challenge as he, and those who shared his destination, carried on. It felt like almost a minute had passed before the tunnel began to illuminate, the light from the end exposing a shade of deep purple within the tube's walls.

The drop from the tunnel was short, leaving him and the other contestants, waist-deep in a pit of foam, deep within a canyon of vibrant plastic. They extended up, by his estimate, fifteen meters, and he could spot the bright, neon signs for what he presumed to be another pair of challenges dangling over either of the canyon's precipices.

The Hall of Insight

The Swamp of Lullabys

"Tubular..." He muttered, adjusting his pair of retro-pink sunglasses as he eyeballed the walls around them. Standing out in bright, contrasting colours to the walls' own shades of red and blue, foot and handholds dotted the wall, jutting out from the otherwise perfectly smooth surface. He grinned, wide and confident.

"Sorry bros!" He spoke as he moved towards the wall, and took a hold of the first handhold he spotted. "I worked on waaayyy wonkier construction sites the this in my day! With all the rebar'n eating lunch dangling from a crane'n'shit! They called me Spider! Short for Spider monkey! I got this one in the bag!"

True to his word, he started up the wall with a confident jaunt, ascending the first few meters with relative ease. His success was short-lived, though, as he took hold of an inconspicuous, plastic rock, and a loud, obnoxious beep sounded in response.

"Huh?" Was about all he managed to get out of his mouth, before the section of wall before his chest parted, and a cartoonishly red boxing glove shot out from within, knocking him clear from the wall with a mechanical mercilessness.

"Why would you look at that!" Blaring out from carefully hidden speakers, Miles voice filled the canyon. "Looks like Brock here just got a taste of the THE CANYON OF SECRETS!" Though he was sitting in some booth somewhere far from the contestants, it was still easy to hear Miles' smirk in his voice.

"Did you guys know it takes millions of years for the average canyon to form? It's incredible! Really makes you think about what kind of natural wonders our descendants are gonna have to get milked dry by concession stands in!" He laughed. "But I digress! Lucky for you guys, the Canyon's a pretty simple one! Just pick a side, scramble up to the top, and you're off! But watch out! Even a little canyon like this one's older than dirt! Who knows what kind of secrets it's hiding!"

THE HOTEL BETWIX
Elizabeth shrieked as she soared through the air, a banshee in black, whose screams echoed painfully throughout the tunnel as she tumbled through. Thankfully, of all the tunnels, this was the shortest, the darkness within giving way to a pastel pink after only a few moments and dumping the poor woman into the halls of a dingy, deteriorated hotel.

"H-huh?" She stammered, hauling herself to her feet. A momentary confusion passed over her, born of the disorientation of being so quickly swept from one locale to another, but it was swiftly stifled as she recalled the vista she'd so briefly beheld before being hurled from the stage.

Before her, an ocean of sickly, yellow light buzzed, illuminating a procession of doors, each labelled by letter and number. 11C, 26L, 09E, and so on in a random assortment of combinations. They were just about the only distinctive feature within the halls, with each wall resembling each other, and every light burning with the same cheap, yellow sheen. Elizabeth, muttered to herself, chanting some sort of habitual form of self-assurance, her attention divided between the halls, and the other contestants.

"U-um." Her voice was unsteady, clearly either still scrambled by the stage, or unused to being on camera. "I think we should-" She started, before her eyes went wide. She cast her head over her shoulders, and then she recognized. Her. The other woman. She'd seen her on the television, once or twice, while surfing the stations after a long, hard day of work. She'd hardly had a proper impression of the woman, but what she'd gotten was that she was brash, strong, and punchy. Her stomach dropped, and she immediately fled down the hall.

She really did not want to get punched.

Her crocs thudded dully against the hard floor, and she pulled into the first door she reached, slamming it behind her in an effort to waylay the perceived threat. The moment she did there was a heavy sound behind her and the entire room, which was bizarrely another block of hallway, moved. Behind the walls, gears churned, shifting the room along as the 'hotel' reconfigured itself. It took a few moments, but eventually, the room had joined with the hallway from which she'd just fled, and she awkwardly stumbled around a corner, coming back to face the other contestants now most distressed than ever.

"Oh, what a shame!" There was Miles, again. "It looks like poor Elizabeth has fallen prey to THE HOTEL BETWIX!." The lights flickered as he yelled, and as if it were just to show off, the halls shifted again, the doors changing to another assortment of random numbers and letters.

"This one's simple, kids! The Hotel's a mysterious thing, and it shifts in strange ways, but worry not! There is a way out, and you just need to find it! You'll know you're going the right way whenever the lights chance colour, but watch out!" Somewhere backstage, an intern pressed a button, and a blinking, neon ghost descended from the ceiling. "Take a wrong turn and you'll run into one of the guests! Make sure you don't let them catch you, or else it's gonna shoot you back a level, oops! And if you let one of them catch you all the way up here..." The lights flicker again, more violently, this time. "Well, you'll find out when it happens! Good luck, kids!"

Gav | Central | Hotel Betwix | Passionate Melody Onslaught

The announcer's booming voice was just the signal that things were finally about to pick up. And to follow up, Gav began removing his suit jacket and unbuttoning his button up as he tossed the jacket aside.

The stage shifting however caught him for a moment, briefly off balance. He stumbled, missing a button- but soon caught his footing again and righted it as he undid another line of buttons, exposing the undershirt he wore underneath. Before Miles had begun speaking again- Gav was set. Ready to go. And his eyes did go, travelling straight to the connection of pipes and then eyes scanning the room for where they might lead only to find the network system that had been built which brought them to a different destination.

His eyes couldn't help but narrow though as he noticed the light tremor on where they, the contestants, all stood. So he kept his attention focused on the platform while his ears did the listening.

It was right as the announcer tipped them off that they didn't need to make the choice themselves of which tube they'd take that Gav figured there was bound to be something like a trap door or ejection that would make the decision for them- getting launched airborne merely made his body outline in a strange almost phantom like glow of light that he contained, in case it wasn't necessary to summon his other half.

So he merely allowed the tube to take him to wherever he needed to be.

Hearing a Banshee scream was not as sexy as he'd thought it would be.

"SHUT UP!" he shouted- but it was probably drowned out with all the noise she was making.

Girl could probably bring a room down with her cries alone. He made a mental note to cover her mouth if it came down to trading blows with her so she couldn't make noise that would rupture his perfect eardrums.

When he hit the ground he dispersed Altaia's cloak, rolling to come back up into a stand so when he looked around to find a delipidated hotel, he had to say he was impressed. The effort put into all of this alone must have costed quite the fortune.

Being an Idol and more really raked in the dough.

At Elizabeth's blithering, Gav turned his attention to her- looking down, waiting to hear what sort of suggestion she might make. Yet what he got instead was her staring- right at their little champ in the ringer. He looked to Flo then looked to the Banshee and was about to ask Flo if she knew the girl or something-- only for their Banshee acquaintance to take off at break neck speeds.

He let her go- ultimately it worked in his favor. If she got to be the guinea pig for him to see what sort of traps were around it was no real skin off his bones as he doubted whatever Passeri had set up was to be ultimately life threatening in earnest. So when the place began shifting, altering- changing- Gav couldn't help but sigh once their skittish shrieker came back from a different direction out of the same door, with, as he suspected, Miles right on cue to provide some feed for the viewers.

He really was hoping for something more physically engaging- this, he wasn't sure how to use his powers for this. Smashing through everything was what the old him would do and that didn't seem like the smart path.

"Wanna work together?" he asked Flo. And then with his arm gaining an energetic glow that carried a eerie gaseous state, shifting to become an energy that covered his arm and altered it into a blueish limb, the arm extended and tapped Elizabeth on the forehead. "Including you provided you don't try running again. My abilities won't let me get out of here with ease- if we're going to figure this out I'd prefer we work together briefly. Instead of trying to trip each other up." He suggested.

Sylvie's question prompted Ryu to nod towards Jackie, who promptly walked over to a nearby wall face looming above a waist-high bookshelf. The large man reached over to one of its sides, his digits fumbling momentarily before flicking a switch with an audible click. A portion of the wall hissed as hydraulics went to work in sliding the false panel upwards to reveal its inner contents for everyone, and in particular for Jackie to collect. Small black cases, one for every Tiger in the room, were collected and set in front of Ryu and the others. "Inside these are going to be our primary weapons, procured by Mr. Pilter." Ryu then explained, "I'll let him explain the finer details."

The security chief put on some well fitting gloves before opening Ryu's case on his desk and pulled out a large, singular black pistol with a large forward facing muzzle. "Integrated silencers, using pressure distributors to reduce noise levels to a low enough level that it sounds invisible at a longer distance. Works almost as well as oil filter cans." the large man explained before pulling out a clip, loaded with bullets. "Black-tip, point five-oh. Military grade, armor piercing rounds. There's enough stopping power here to stop a charging bison. And more than enough to put down a guard, even with standard ballistic vests and protection. Just be careful with the recoil." He then also tapped the top of the railing of the gun, bringing attention to its sights. "Additionally, digital optical sights for better accuracy."

"We will also have other hardware once we get going. Just be sure to wear the gloves provided. Don't want fingerprints on this as a potential trace route." He then walked over to his desk, pressing a buzzer on his intercom which signaled two additional members of Jackie's security team to enter with long, silver cases and set them on the table. "And one more thing, pick a mask. Any mask."

The cases open to revealed their myriad of options to all the Tigers, suitable to their own tastes and interests. Each one was meticulously crafted with either wood, ivory, metal, or a combination of the three.

A stroke of luck for her as she then was taken to the computer's home screen and was greeted by a variety of browser tabs opened already. This meant that the laptop was in sleep mode and not entirely shut off. The tabs shown included: a game site for online billiard, a cheap digital knockoff the real thing, a video sharing platform where his last played video was that of some obscure sad jazz music, and, most interestingly, a highly respected karaoke bar by the name of Hyperstar which advertised a venue that could seat nearly 90 people in an open floor plan that allowed a maximum audience size for anyone daring to sing onstage.

Clipton Woodrow, a CDPD Detective of seven years, had been standing outside the back Employee Exit when the fire alarm first rang, cigarette between his lips as he pondered the next step in the case he’d been assigned.

Shortly after CDPD personnel and civilians began to spill out of the building from all orifices, he noticed something quickly out of the ordinary.

A trio of individuals—nothing initially suspicious about them—who were engaged in some sort of discussion, each of them prone to the occasional, seemingly habitual, glance at their cell-phones, had dropped everything they were doing at the call of the alarms as if it had been a queue. Together—their behavior shifted, expressions wily—the three of them took off in a run toward HQ.

Spurred by concern, Clipton dropped his cigarette into the butt disposal and stepped forward through the outflow of people to question the oncomers, curious of their intentions. However, as soon as he did, one of the trio crouched and leaped abnormally high. Something no HP could accomplish. And from where the man had been a blink ago, a gust of wind expanded outward from the force of his leap. People screamed and covered their heads, and Clipton shielded his eyes from flying dust. When next he opened them, he found a fist plummeting into his face before the remaining two men barreled into the building.

Like a dam collapsing, blood streamed from Clipton’s nose and he covered it with a hand. His eyes scanned the parking lot for a uniform or familiar face, as he wasn’t equipped with a radio to send the message.

Spotting someone—a male officer engaged in conversation with a troubled woman—Clipton ran up to him from behind, grabbed his shoulder, and turned him around.

At first, offended by this invasion of personal space, the officer gave a scowl that was quickly replaced by recognition, “Detective Woodrow-”

“That’s him!” said the woman. “Those men attacked him and-”

Clipton interrupted with haste, “I need you to report criminal trespassing!”

“Are you o-”

“Just do as I asked! Something’s not right.”

“O-Okay…” The officer reached for his handheld radio, noticing a rising commotion amongst the civilians and CDPD personnel scattering the lot.

Just then, a loud shatter echoed throughout the sky, and silence abruptly settled over the throng as a wave of crackling energy traveled down from the rooftop of the CDPD-HQ and swept over the area, traveling further out beyond what the eye could see. Transparent and hazy like ripples of heat off a summer sidewalk, the anomaly seemed to have no effect whatsoever…

But when murmurs rose again as people recovered from the shock of what had just happened, and Clipton borrowed the Officer’s radio to make his report, two and two miraculously came together.

The radio disobeyed his command.

When he pressed the button to speak, it screeched to life with offense, and his head jerked back. Dumbfounded, he held the thing as far away from him as his arm could reach and stared into the black holes of its speaker.

“Well, what the hell was ‘at?” asked the officer beside him.

The radio then spat an incoherent mess, but one word managed to escape clear: “Gunfire”.

“Officer, what’s going on?!” The woman, still present, looked between them, clutching the strap of her purse with both hands.

After a pause, Clipton told them, “Civilian safety protocol- Evacuate the immediate premises… I-...” he looked around. “I don’t quite know what to do here…”

The people stirred as questions went unanswered, and it was easy to see that members of the force were becoming overwhelmed. Many tinkered with their radios while others stood by the exits, weapons drawn. Some had already started ushering civilians and non-field trained personnel off the lot in an orderly fashion, and, all the while, there were still officers on the inside. Maybe even civilians…

A sharp gasp. “What’s that?” The woman in their presence looked up and pointed at one of the windows on the fourth floor. It was a few inches open, and red smoke was rolling out in a steady course. “Is it fire?”

Clipton narrowed his eyes at the fume. Shaking his head, he thought aloud, “Smoke, but not from a fire… Is it a call for help?”

“Why are you standing around?” a woman’s voice, soft like a whisper but impossible to miss.

Clipton and the uniformed officer both stiffened, turning their heads in unison to see the elegant Lieutenant Mao smiling up at them, short-statured as she was. Behind her, a unit of other officers and detectives followed. “We have a situation on our hands, and you are standing idle…” The Lieutenant leveled a hand with her own shoulder, palm to the sky, in a gesture toward the civilian woman nearby, “She should be leaving… The fire alarm was said to have been pulled by a standard civilian, average height, duo-colored hair of blonde and brown, wearing a yellow jacket. Officer Coles claims to have passed him in the hallway, and Security Officer Lovell confirmed it.”

Mao continued, “Several officers and civilian witnesses have spoken of numerous suspicious characters entering the building moments after the alarm was pulled. Some were violent, some kept their heads down. It would be wise to keep your guard up. This is a gang-undertaking, no doubt.”

“Y-Yeah, I actually witnessed three of them, myself,” said Clipton, rubbing his nose.

“I can see that,” Mao responded, referring to the blood. “We must secure the perimeter…”

“I agree.” Clipton nodded, commencing an awkward stretch of silence during which everyone gazed expectantly at him. Then he realized, “OH! You mean me!” And Lieutenant Mao clapped.

“Right! I’m on it!” he said before heading off.

That’s when Lieutenant Mao turned to one of the men behind her and inquired about the radio situation, “Have you resolved the transmission issue?”

“Looks like it works when you tune into headquarters’ personal transmitter.”

“Interesting.” Mao hummed, chewing her thumbnail, then snapped her fingers, “The energy eruption. I should have realized sooner. Our communications have been limited… You~” The Lieutenant pointed to a random female officer, “Send to the nearest precinct for reinforcements,” then another, “You spread word about the radios. Get everyone on the same wavelength.”

“On it!”“Got it!” and they were gone. However, they weren’t the only ones catching onto the situation, and Mao wasn’t the only one barking orders, as radios were already catching buzz with incoming reports.

“Gunfire on the second floor!” — “Officer Maynard, moving in!” — “Prioritize civilian evacuation!” — “We need to identify the culprits!” — “How many are there?” — “Man down in Emergency Stairwell two! Seems we’re facing- GAH!” — “What’s the situation!?”

Fast forward several minutes and the Central District Police Headquarters’ parking lot had been cleared of all readily visible civilians, and the force was finally getting its ducts in a row. Units had banned together, surrounding the building at all entrances and exits, and Doctor Storm was hacking the armories with her potential, which allowed her to swipe weapons and equipment as long as she knew what she was looking for.

She stood before a structure that much resembled a typical watering well—instead, though, this one was pink and glowing, and the surface of the well was reflective. It rippled ceaselessly as she plucked out various weapons and equipment, each one handed off to an officer who then left to meet their post.

“Y’know, I don’ find much use fuh my ‘tenial, but when I do- HAAAH! I LOVE IT, BABY!! LOOK-AT-ALL-THESE-WEAPOOOOONS!!!!”

Elsewhere, Clipton Woodrow was finally in position to effectively secure the perimeter as ordered. He stood at the edge of the parking lot, facing out, then knelt to one knee with both hands pressing firmly against the pavement.

Inhaling, he allowed his lungs to fill to their fullest.

Exhaling, he closed his eyes and envisioned the CDPD-HQ property in his mind, and he saw what it was… what he knew it to be…

These two steps, as modest as they seemed, were most crucial. He repeated them many times, for several minutes.

Next, Clipton saw what he wanted to see, and that’s when the ground transformed. Rising up, the concrete on either side of him stretched for the sky—twenty-feet thick walls of rock at the base, tapering one-hundred feet high—and did so along the entirety of the parking lot’s outermost edge, leaving a gap where only he currently stood. The only way in, and the only way out.

Finished with his work, he collapsed backwards and gasped for breath for some time. Then, when he eventually composed, he opened his eyes and acknowledged the clouds.

“...Well, there’s that, too…”

It was hard to avoid the urge to turn on her HP bar after being catapulted into the air, no matter how sure she was of her safety on Passeri’s show. Ignoring the instincts screaming at her to “TURN IT ON, TURN IT ON”, she tucked in her chin instead and twisted midair to shoot through her tube feet first instead of the odd angle she would’ve fallen in.

Clapping her hands over her ears, she winced as a shrill, glass-breaking shriek echoed somewhere in the tubes beside her, followed by a loud “shut up!”. Landing on her feet and rolling more from habit than to disperse any force from the impact, she stood up at just the right time to watch an unnamed contestant stop in the middle of her stutters, gape at her and run away.

She scrunched her eyebrows together and dropped the hand that was rising to stop the woman, a little hurt from the immediate flee reaction she’d conjured.
“Fuck was that about?”

Did she look so scary? Her younger fans hadn’t thought so, but children could be gutsy like that. Rubbing her head and wondering if she should ask the nearby competitor—had Miles called him Gabriel Alazar?—about it, she barely noted the sound of mechanisms grinding behind the pink plaster walls before the same lady who’d dashed into a room came careening around a corner.

“Uh, ya good?”
She was a little concerned about the visibly upset woman, but didn’t make a move to go closer in fear of frightening her again. Her line of sight flickered back to her environment as she reassessed the hotel-like setup. This was elaborate.
“Ya think that’s every room?”

Her question was answered as Miles cut in with a bubbly explanation of “The Hotel Betwix” after the first unlucky contestant tested the waters enough for the rest of them. It was the starting challenge and already Flo wasn’t sure she’d make it out—hell, she wasn’t even sure she’d make it past the initial floor. She wasn’t planning on making a good showing, but losing at the beginning was just embarrassing. She could do better than that. Rocket could do better than that.

So when the offer of cooperation came from Gabriel, she only winced a bit when he poked the other contestant before agreeing.
“I’m down. But givin’ ya fair warning: can’t say I’m any good at puzzles like these.”

Turning to the distressed competitor he’d nudged on the forehead, she lifted both hands in a show of nonaggression.
“I don’t bite, yeah? Ain’t gonna do anythin’ ta ya unless ya want it, alright?”

THE SUN IN THE GUTTER

“Ah, yeah, hopefully it won’t take up too much of your time.” It wouldn’t be surprising to anyone to hear that Darius wasn’t overly enthused about accompanying Ruthe, and despite his attempts to hide it with a sheepish smile, his nervous body language did him no favours.

“I’d join you but I’ve got uh-”
Arms pressed away to his sides on instinct as Ruthe’s hands came closer to the man, his body moving away as much as it could without him taking a step back, and his rejection was instantly silenced by the fear of her move. “I’ve got work to-” Silenced again by the anxiety clogging his tightening throat, his collar was delicately adjusted and he allowed not even a tremble of movement until the hands retreated from his neckline and he breathed a sigh of relief. He brought his own hand up to his collar to inspect for anything more sinister, on instinct again rather than specific distrust.

“I’m sure watching a poor soul’s bad reaction to a few pills would be more interesting than mopping stains off the floor, no?”

Darius opened his mouth to respond with another attempted rejection of her offer before the sound of explosions echoed down the corridor. At that moment, he grabbed ten, pulling them close to him in an effort to do what he could to shield them from the unknown threat. He only let go when the announcement finished playing, and there seemed to be no immediate danger.

“Shit.”

Though slipping away from the scene was extremely desirable right now, there were a couple of reasons why Darius hadn’t immediately grabbed Ten’s hand and fled out the front entrance. For starters, he had a job to do, and though he wasn’t loyal to Icarus, he wasn’t prepared to find out what disloyalty would mean for him. Secondly, he had little faith in the announcement. Sure the Loading Bay might have been the epicentre of the attack, but for all he knew the place could be crawling with assailants at every turn. It made the option of taking cover seem less desirable than first thought.

“Stay there.”

Darius took a few tentative steps around the corner, almost immediately startled by the woman slowly approaching the group, though he recognized her quickly.

“Oh my God Yuna… What the fuck is going on?

Without taking time to question her sudden presence or wait for an answer to his question, it seemed Darius had made up his mind on something as he turned back to Ten, and contradicted his last instruction.

“Ten get into your shadow and stay close. I’m finding the boss.”

He looked to Ruthe and Yuna but said nothing to encourage or dissuade them from whatever plans they may have had. They weren’t important right now. He began a careful walk in the direction of the Loading Bay, his only intentions being to find Sang-Cheol, or assess the situation himself. Though worried about the attackers, he was at least confident in his ability to outrun them through the winding corridors he had been mopping for the last 3 months if it came to that. What he was banking on though was Sang-Cheol's protection, after all, he was promised safety here, right?

Ripples of Stardust

This scene felt both entirely unique and all too familiar. Flashbacks to Passeri's concert in the South, of all events, started playing in her head. Kazue's cavalier expression faded, replaced with a neutral look and blinks of confusion underneath her unnecessary sunglasses. Subtly taking another bite out of her ice cream, she tried to mentally commentate on what she was looking at.

So the first kid, who was howling for some reason, greeted me and Kairong. I think she was doing at the fox that's getting yoinked. But before the dudes tried to take it, the other kid introduced himself and the other other kid (Master? Dude, I'm shorter than both of you and I'm pretty sure neither of you are fully grown), who has some impressive lungs. The first other kid who did the introduction, Hiram, talked to the dudes taking the fox for a bit. The other kid, Ottilie (I think I managed to misspell that in my thoughts) started rambling after mentioning ice cream and is currently invading one of the wannabe pest control dudes' personal space, who doesn't seem to want to be here. Now the pest dudes are the ones rambling. Know what, just because they want to take this weird animal, I don't think we should let them have it. A meal coupon...pretty sure prices at this place are jacked up to like 500% of what they should be. That's almost tempting. Now Ottilie's (seriously how am I supposed to spell that) annoyed, and–

At Ottilie's scream, Kazue winced hard. She lowered her head, sort of curling up on instinct. The shock of movement was too much for the head of her precious ice cream to handle. As Kazue opened her eyes, she was greeted with the sight of ice cream on the ground. Staring forlornly at the now decapitated cone and its fallen crown of sweetness, she made some vocalization halfway between a grunt and a groan. The sound of perhaps an exhausted ill person attempting to speak. "Uuuuuuuuu..."

She took a deep breath, then a bite of the cone and the remaining bit of the treat inside. At the very least, that place was generous with their servings. Tearing her eyes from the tragic scene below, Kazue's face set to a more determined look. Time to stop messing around and get serious.
