A Vampire Knight fandom roleplay with a possible Phantom of the Opera twist- Vampires and humans live together at the school known as Cross Academy. Will they be able to overlook their differences and co-exist, work together, or even develop relationships?

Kaname Kuran looked out the window as the sun sank below the trees. His garnet eyes were attuned to the dimming light, and he felt more awake than ever. Night was the time of vampires. Though, they still had class to attend. Kaname left his office and walked down the staircase in the Moon Dorms. He glanced around the room, making sure that all of the other Night Class students were accounted for. "Where is Seiren?" he asked, noticing they were one short. "Right here, my lord," said the silver-haired female as she bowed deeply to the pureblood. Kaname acknowledged her and told everyone to line up at the gate. Kaname brought up the rear, as always, in order to make sure no one fell behind. He knew that the Guardians would be there to make sure the switch went smoothly, not that that really ever happened. Yet, he was grateful for their efforts and was particularly intrigued by a certain female Guardian. How innocent and charming she was...she had captured his interest, much to the dismay of others, but Kaname had no intentions of letting her escape him so easily.

Haruna sighed as she headed toward the gate that currently separated the Day and Night Classes. She knew she had to do her job, but it was much less than enjoyable. Entertaining? Perhaps. She was amazed at how foolish some of the girls and even boys could act around the vampires. Haruna didn't understand it. Sure, they were attractive, but was it really such a big deal? They were students, not celebrities. Plus, they were here every day, just like the human students. Haruna could already hear the squealing as she approached the mob of students waiting to see their idols. She was probably late again. Haruna pushed through the fangirls and started doing her job, hoping the other Guardians wouldn't give her too much grief for being late. Then again, they probably would, but it was a thought.

Yuki was also late, nothing new really. But, at least she was up and about before Zero Kiryu. "Late again." Yuki muttered. "This won't get any easier." She grumbled under her breath, secretly desiring to see the same vampire that had saved her life at five years old. Kaname, though she'd never admit it, was everything to Yuki Cross. When he saved her from that...that thing, so long ago, he must have known what that did to her, right? "Alright, everyone behind the concrete!" Yuki blew a whistle that swayed around her neck. "Don't push." She took charge, like always.

Not far away, Zero Kiryu was making his way, taking his sweet time getting to the Moon Dormitory. For all he cared, he would let the fangirls take these beasts down. He hated what vermin, sorry, vampires, did to him a few years prior. He had scars to prove his hatred. "Alright, you heard her! Get back!" Zero shouted.

Kaname sighed, trying to hurry the others along, but of course, Aido was acting childish at the front of the line, as usual. Thankfully, someone got him settled before anything serious happened that would call for Kaname's intervention. Kaname watched as the Guardians did their usual crowd control work, and he wished they didn't cause so much trouble for the poor prefects. "Thank you for your hard work, Yuki." Kaname smiled gently at the brunette as he passed. He knew better than to say anything serious that would upset the entire Day Class, but he still wanted Yuki to know that he noticed her.

Haruna heard the other two Guardians yelling at the crowd- she couldn't tell if both of them had actually been later than she. Not that it really mattered, as long as the job got done, right? Haruna was never one for yelling, but she didn't mind stomping on feet and glaring at anyone who dared to step out of line. People did tend to find her a bit intimidating, at least for a girl. Though, that's probably one of the reasons she didn't have many friends here. "Don't even think about it," she growled at a girl trying to sneak around her.

Yuki loved her job, she loved Kaname too. Still, to this day, she felt a warmth every time he was around her. "You're welcome, Lord Kaname." She bowed to him, her automatic reaction when she saw him. "Any time. It's the least I could do, after what you did for me." She rubbed her head, smiling nervously, then, she looked at Haruna. "Are you okay?" She asked kindly.

Zero rolled his eyes. "Would you stop acting like such a girl around him?" He glared at the vampires as they passed. "Honestly, you're just like the others." Yuki glared at him. "It's not your business what I do and why."

Kaname chuckled a little when he saw Yuki's rushed bow out of the corner of his eye. Although they really didn't have much need for formalities, she continued to treat him as much higher than herself. Yuki never changed. Yet, that was one of the things Kaname loved about her. The entire world could reverse its orbit, but Yuki would always be there with the same optimistic attitude and an energy that was contagious.

Haruna was a little surprised when Yuki asked how she was. "Oh...yeah, I'm fine," she replied. She shrugged. "It was just like any other night on the job." Haruna looked away and tried not to laugh when Zero told Yuki to quit acting like a girl. It was true, Yuki was clearly enamored with the ever-mysterious Lord Kaname. It was kind of cute, in Haruna's opinion, but she never took much interest in the pureblood herself.

Ruka, two or three students ahead of Kaname, rolled her eyes. She hated living like this, without Kaname's affection. He only had eyes for that filthy human! It made her sick! "Lord Kaname, tell me, why do we put up with this? What's the point?"

"That's true." She answered Haruna as she watched Kaname's class disappear around the corner and out of sight. "It's just taking some time to get used to." She got close to Haruna and whispered in her ear. "It's almost like we're vampires too, having to change our whole sleeping patterns to help them." A smile escaped her. She was proud of herself for having not fallen this time.

"Hey! Everyone beat it!" Zero waved his fist at a few girls. "They're gone, alright? Every one get to bed!" He hated the transfer, serving the very creatures he hated.

Kaname looked at the female vampire but gestured for her to enter the classroom before discussing the matter any further. Although the question had been asked by others before, Kaname didn't blame them. They had a right to know, and Kaname was fairly patient when he knew they couldn't understand why he did the things he did. "Should we prove to the world that we are nothing more than monsters?" he asked. "If living under these conditions will bring peace to both humans and vampires alike, then it is something I am willing to promote. Are you really so unpleased here?" he asked calmly. Kaname had close relations with the Headmaster, and together they had founded the principles of this Academy. It wasn't easy- maybe it never would be, but Kaname was willing to take a chance to accomplish undeniable ends.

"Uh...sure..." Haruna replied to Yuki's vampire comment. If she didn't know what vampires were like, she might have found it funny. Either way, Haruna wasn't one to go around getting into useless arguments. Not like Yuki and Zero did- mostly with each other, but Haruna learned it was a sign of their close relationship with one another. Haruna knew she would never be as close with them as they were with each other. Sometimes it was a little depressing to think about, but most of the time she just figured that's the way it would be. Besides, Yuki had always been nice to her since her first day at the Academy and Zero hadn't been overly rude to her in particular, so she figured it was better than most.

"Lord Kaname, that's not what I meant." Ruka answered in little more than a whisper. "I mean to ask, well, what if this doesn't work?" She ignored the stares that her fellows were giving her. "What if that one Guardian, Zero Kiryu, says something?" She asked, a little louder. "His friend is protecting him. You can't do anything while she's around. They're all looking out for each other." She turned away from him and sat at her desk. "You know they'll never let each other get hurt, not even by you."

"Well, it's done. We should really get back inside until we have to walk the Night Class back to the Moon Dormitory." Yuki tugged on Haruna and Zero's sleeves. "That only gives us a few hours." She walked them back to the main building. Wanting to see Kaname was something that happened on a daily basis, but she had to be careful about it. She didn't want attention to come to the vampires. "On second thought, we should stay out here in case the girls try to slip one past us." Zero pulled away. "Forget it, I'm going." He walked to the stables, fists jammed into his pockets.

Kaname frowned slightly, and his eyes flashed for a moment, but he composed himself before responding to Ruka. "Everything that is meant to be will fall into place. Even the infamous Zero Kiryu cannot defy his fate," Kaname said simply. "You don't need to concern yourself with such things, Ruka. All I ask is that you continue to live here in peace and do as I have instructed." Kaname looked around the room, making eye contact with each of the aristocrats, to show he was speaking to all of them.

Haruna rolled her eyes a bit when Zero left in a huff. She normally gave people the benefit of the doubt when they acted so unhappy- maybe they were having a bad day, or a bad week. But Zero seemed like he was always in a bad mood. Haruna shrugged. It wasn't anything unusual though. Several times, she had thought about asking him if he was okay. But she always decided against it, since she was sure Zero didn't like her company much at all. "Well, we could keep watch from inside, right?" Haruna asked Yuki. Haruna preferred to stay inside at night when they could- it was much safer that way.

"Yes, Lord Kaname." Ruka said automatically, as she would always respond to him in such a way. The others echoed her comment. "Yes, Lord Kaname." "Oh, that Zero Kiryu gets on my nerves so badly that I can't wait to get my hands on him!" Hanabusa Aido scribbled something into his notebook, his eyes flashing from their gorgeous baby blues to the bright pinkish red that reflected his king's just moments before. "Hold it, Hanabusa." Akatsuki Kain grabbed his cousin by the shoulder. "Don't." Aido's eyes went back to the normal blue. "Fine, but just five minutes with him and...fine." he stayed silent.

Yuki watched Zero's silver hair disappear behind the stable door. "Zero, what's wrong with you?" She asked herself. "They didn't do anything to you." She finally looked back at Haruna. "Well, I guess, but what if someone comes, then someone like Aido comes around and we can't get there in time?" Yuki kept coming up with excuses to stay out here, in the cool night air and wait for Kaname.

Kaname stood by the window once the others had settled. He didn't pay much mind to Aido's outburst. It wasn't so unusual for him anyways. Secretly, he sort of agreed with the blonde. Zero was someone whom Kaname despised, but for now, he needed him. Someday, he hoped that would not be the case, and when the hunter outlived his use, Kaname intended to be the one to draw the curtain.

Haruna sighed. Yuki did have a point- Aido wasn't exactly the most trustworthy of vampires. Haruna frowned at the thought of dealing with him; he could be so incredibly annoying. Haruna used to love being out at night. There was something about the cool air and the moon that was just inspiring, but now Haruna knew about the things that lurked in the dark. She noticed Yuki seemed a little too happy about staying out, though. Haruna sighed. "Yuki, you're not thinking about-" she sighed. "Never mind." Of course she was thinking about Kaname Kuran.

"Wow, someone's got a little crush, doesn't he?" Ruka laid back in her chair, eyes closed, listening to Aido. "You can't go after him on school grounds.""I wasn't thinking about it any way, Ruka." It took Hanabusa a few more seconds to register what she said. He shot out of his chair, knocking it over. "How dare you!" The woman merely chuckled softly.

Yuki hid her blush. It wasn't really seen in the darkness any way. "Well, I...I just wanted to...so what?" She gave in and smiled at Haruna as she trudged through the dark toward their classroom. She sat on the front steps, twirling her Artemis rod in her left hand.

Kaname noticed the two female guardians on the stairs. He smiled slightly when his gaze fell upon Yuki, who was smiling. Kaname followed her gaze to the other guardian, Haruna. He didn't really know what to think of her, but as long as she stayed out the way, he had no reason to wish harm upon her. She seemed to get along well enough with Yuki. Kaname wished he could go outside, even just to talk with Yuki for a few moments. But he wouldn't disobey school rules and do whatever he wished, even if he had every right to do so.

Haruna rolled her eyes. So the truth comes out- Yuki's real motive for staying out here was so she could catch a glimpse of the famed pureblood. Haruna didn't say anything else about it, simply folding her arms as she sat down on the steps as well. She couldn't wait for the weekend to come. Not that Haruna did much, but at least she could sleep without worrying about duty unless there was a specific task the Headmaster made them do. Headmaster Cross was a peculiar man, one that Haruna didn't really understand.

"Well, we may as well stay here until their time is up." Yuki yawned, trying to stay awake. It seemed impossible. "There really is no point in going back. It's a beautiful night." She spoke softly to Haruna. Takuma Ichigo watched them as well. Being vice president, he wanted to go out there and shoo the girls away. "Lord Kaname, do you want me to make the girls go?" He noticed his president's smile. "I wouldn't mind." Yuki looked at the window and noticed who was watching the two of them. "Let's go, if you want, Haruna." She felt so stupid. How could she act like the other girls?

Kaname turned to the blonde vampire and shook his head. "It's fine, Ichijo. They aren't bothering anyone, and besides, it looks like they're on their way to do something else." He looked around the room at the other vampires, who were occupying themselves in different ways. The Night Class wasn't like normal school, they basically had study hall and that was it, save testing the newly developed blood tablets.

Haruna stared at Yuki, confused. They just sat down, and now Yuki was saying they should go after all? "Huh? But we just-?" she questioned. Then again, Haruna wouldn't let Yuki just wander off by herself, so she followed the other girl. She couldn't always understand what was going on in Yuki's head, but then again, no one can truly understand everything another person is thinking. At least Yuki seemed more predictable than Zero.

Takuma dropped a blood tablet in his water cup and waited for it to dissolve. "Hmm, I guess you're right, Lord Kaname." He raised it to his lips. There was no way it was the same as real blood, but it would have to do. Once he lowered it, he scanned the room to make sure everyone was present. "Oh no." He looked back out the window. "Not again." He flew out of the room, wiping his lip.

"Come on. Something doesn't feel right." She felt watched. Her immediate reaction was to reach for Artemis. She threw her arm out to stop Haruna, then, she took her hand. "Quick, weapons!" She looked back and saw that Takuma had left the window.

Kaname sensed it before Ichijo had said a word, but he couldn't just leave right then. "All of you, stay here," he commanded. He wanted to make sure none of the others left the room. Kaname trusted Ichijo to take care of the situation, however, he still liked to make sure everything went smoothly. Kaname did have more authority than any of the others anyways. He would leave in a few moments after he was sure none of the other aristocrats would leave. Yuki, he thought. He needed to make sure she was safe.

Haruna's muscles tightened as she also sensed the unwelcome presence. She quickly pulled out a knife in each hand, readying herself for an attack. Her eyes scanned the tree-covered area for signs of movement. Vampires. Was there really a Level E here, at Cross Academy? She couldn't tell what kind of vampire it was, but Haruna knew that they had to protect the students above all else.

Ichigo ran as fast as he could and made it to the Guardians. "Haruna, Yuki!" He saw them. He couldn't keep his eyes off of Haruna. "Takuma!" Yuki gasped, relieved that he was there, though she preferred Kaname any day. "It's a Level E!" The creature was on top of the building where the sane vampires were. Zero appeared out of nowhere and shoved Yuki and Haruna behind him. This made Takuma mad. How dare he! He let it slide, once. "Such pretty little girls. I won't hurt them." The Level E laughed softly.

Kaname quickly turned as he heard the sound of something on the roof. This had gotten serious. Now, not only were the guardians in danger, but also his classmates. The pureblood didn't want to use his powers for evil, especially in front of those he cared about for fear of scaring them, but Kaname couldn't wait any longer. His adrenaline raced as he rushed for the door, once again commanding the other Night Class students to stay in their seats.

Haruna clenched her fists, preparing to throw one of her knives until she saw a figure rush in front of her and Yuki. What the-? It was Zero. Haruna resisted the urge to argue that they could handle this, since he was just doing his job, after all. Still, that didn't mean she was useless. She had her aim ready until Zero messed up her shot. It didn't matter what the Level E said, she wasn't gonna just stand here.

It was lucky for the Night Class that the Level E wasn't focused on getting to them. He, or it was focused on the two little snacks on the ground below him. "Now, I would so like the idea that you would leave peacefully, but, seeing as you've lost what little sense you had as a vampire, I don't see that as a possibility." Takuma murmured. "But, don't worry, this will end quickly." The crazed vampire hissed. "Come and get me!" He lunged for Haruna first. Takuma growled, fangs bared, and attacked. "Get off!" Zero also attacked, throwing the monster against the wall. Yuki immediately swung Artemis, but missed her target and got Takuma instead. "YUKI, TURN IT OFF!" He screamed.

Haruna felt herself get pushed aside as the Level E came toward her. She took the unexpected retreat as a moment to focus her aim. She threw one of her knives, then another. The first missed and landed somewhere on the ground. The second grazed the Level E's arm, but the creature was faster than she expected. But as soon as Haruna prepared to strike again, she saw that the Level E had stopped frozen, and blood poured from the center of its chest.

"I would never let filth like you touch her," Kaname growled so that only the Level E could hear as he died. Kaname pulled his arm out from the other vampire quickly, his eyes flashing angrily as the creature fell and started to vanish. He then looked over at the others, espeically worried now that Yuki had seen how violent he could be. "I'm very sorry," he said gently as he descended from the roof and went to Takuma's side.

"Don't say a word, Yuki. I'll see you inside." He disappeared.

Takuma looked up at the dorm president. "Lord Kaname." He gasped for breath for a second or two as he watched Yuki, who fell to her hands and knees immediately, that snowy day coming back at once.

Scary vampire....will eat me! She gasped for breath herself. She felt like puking immediately, not aware that Kaname had spoken. She shook her head and felt a warm liquid come from her hands. She looked up at everyone, especially Haruna. "Are you alright?" She didn't take her gaze from her friend. Artemis lay forgotten inches from her.

Kaname looked away, sad that Yuki had to see this. He felt like tehre was nothing he could do- if he tried to help her right now, it would only make things worse. It must be painful for her. Kaname felt so distant from her sometimes, knowing that there were some things that would just take time, and even then, he might not be able to heal everything. But someday, he promised silently, she would never be alone or afraid.

Haruna was still breathing heavily and clenching her fists around her knives. She stood there, not knowing what to say or do until she heard Yuki ask how she was. "I'm fine," she replied. "You don't look so good though. Maybe we should call it a night, go inside, and get you cleaned up."

Yuki got up, embarrassed by the fact that she had another one of her episodes in front of Kaname. She felt the blood coming from her hands and immediately looked from Kaname to Takuma and then she looked around for Zero, basically, anyone who would freak out at the sight of blood. "Well, what about the transfer?" She asked, holding her bleeding hands close.

Takuma took one look at the girls and then at Yuki's hands. He wouldn't dare even attempt to hurt them. He respected Kaname too much. But, that blood looked appetizing. "Haruna, forgive me for not making it before that thing did." He was believing that she was hurt. It upset him.

"Come on, Yuki. I really think it'd be best to get that blood taken care of," Haruna insisted. Working the transfer with a bleeding girl and a bunch of vampires really wouldn't work out well. Yuki really needed to be more careful. Perhaps Kaname and Ichijo had pretty good control of their thirst, but not all of the Night Class members were so trustworthy. Haruna was a bit shocked that the vice president spoke to her. Sure he was an overall pleasant person, but since when did he give her the time of day? "Um, well thanks for coming anyways. Everything turned out alright," she said.

Kaname nodded in agreement. "Your friend is right," he told Yuki. "The Night Class may be unsettled and and difficult to handle with you bleeding like this. You should take care of yourself first. I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you. I should probably speak to the Headmaster about this as soon as possible. Would you like me to see you back inside?" he offered.
