Kevin smirked, "I's not that simple, no. This is just the first test, the first tradition for you to become the antidote for your Alpha. You have to understand, you won't be immune to Wolves ban, but your blood will be able to mix with your Alpha's to make him immune. You are going to need to take three of these, each with slightly more wolves ban then the last and each more painful then the last." he kneeled down, looking at Johnathan, "My uncle as the Beta, before me, he explained this all, after I had learned of this ritual, and read about it. You don't have the chance to have that knowledge, that awareness of what is going to happen, but I can explain it slightly. You will feel pain, agonizing pain that will make you want to shift. If you give in, your training will end and by your own hand, you would forfeit the position of Beta. If you manage to fight the shift, you will learn a control that you will have to learn to master, so you can be a great Beta. After the first of it, you will choice to continue or stop and whatever you decided to do, will also decided if you remain Beta. The second dose will cause pain that you will feel like you are dying. That is a possibility, but very few Betas had died. Still you must not shift, no matter how it burns your skin or breaks every cell, you can not shift. The last dose will kill you, for a moment or so. When it does, you will be given a chance to speak with a Beta that has been killed. You will see through their eyes, watch yourself die and when it is done, you will come back. After this, you have only one choice, to be a Beta or to be killed. Either way you die, the only difference is, that you will either die as a pack, as a Beta or you will die alone. Only an Alpha can decided to change that sentence and the only other choice it to exile you from this pack." Kevin sighed, "This is not a ritual to take lightly, Johnathan, this is a ritual that will test your power and well as a Beta."

Johnathan looked to the mixture again as he processed what Kelvin said. The itching burning feeling continued and he had to resist the urge to scratch at his arms. He was even more afraid than he had been before. He wasn't sure he was good enough to be Beta, not to a wolf as powerful as his brother. But he didn't want to let his Brother down either. He had chosen him, and he didn't want to ruin that confidence Wade had in him. "I will do it. I will try. If I can make it through the first time then I know I am strong enough to be by my brother's side as his Beta." He said, finally looking back to Kevin.

Kevin nodded, as he took the bowl up, placing it by Johnathan's face, "You will live for what is known and know what is needed." he said repeating it in the ancient wolf language and then handed the bowl to Johnathan, "Drink it. Breath and whatever you do, fight the shift." he said before stood over Johnathan.

Johnathan hesitated only a brief moment before he took the bowl and drank. He felt nothing at first other than a strange bitter taste that made him want to spit into out. He forced the liquid all the way down and then gen felt it. At first just an increase of the itching and bringing he'd felt but then came the real pain. He felt like his bones were continuously trying to break and reform, but as best he could he forced her to stop. Then it felt as though fur was trying to sprout from his skin and he fought that too. The whole ordeal took a great bit of time as he fought with every ounce of power he had. It got to a point where he wasn't really even sure he was successfully fighting the wolf side of him. A scream of pain escaped from him despite his best efforts to keep it in. Finally, finally it had stopped and he lay panting on the floor.

Kevin sighed as he kneeled down, to help Johnathan seat up. As he looked at Johnathan, "Good. Now, do you want to continue as Beta?" He asked.

Johnathan had estimated a moment, trying to get his breath back as he let Kevin help him into a sitting position. He realized he was surprised, he hadn't realized that he didn't think he'd be able to do it. His body acted before his mind as he nodded his head and then his mind seemed to catch up. "Yes." He replied hoarsely.

Kevin smirked, "Good." He said as he took the bowl, here started back to the herbs to mix about serving, "This time will be worse, you'll get a vision of when I went through it. You never meet your grandfather's Beta, but you'll see him. Don't worry, it's normal and when you feel it, it'll feel like you are going to die. You'll join with my younger self and we will give each other strength." He said as he turned to Johnathan, moving back to him to give him the bowl. "At the same time, you will feel a presents you don't know, one that you have never felt before. That presents is something that you will understand in time, but for now, don't fight either presents. They both are very powerful and they will keep you alive."

Johnathan felt his heart race nervously but he nodded his understanding. "Okay...I have to do this three times right?" He asked, wondering if he remembered correct. His mind was still a little fuzzy.

Kevin smirked, "After this, just one more and you are done. This is important, got you to be able to survive the next test. You'll be there, you'll see what a Beta must do to keep their Alpha safe."

Johnathan nodded. "I want to know. I want to keep my brother safe instead of him always keeping me safe." He said, waiting patiently for the mixture.

Kevin smirked, as he handed Johnathan the bowl, "There are ways to keep him safe that have nothing to do with protecting. It's a matter of using your head, that is the way you will keep him safe, the best way." He assured him, "Now, drink and when you see the Beta, remember, gender is not a means of power."

Johnathan looked to him curiously. He knew that, he felt like sometimes his mother was one of the most powerful wolves he knew if only because of the sway she held of his father. "Okay. I'm ready." He said as he took a deep breath and then took the bowl to drink.

It was a burst of energy, followed by the image of a boy, the young Kevin with a woman towering over him as he kneeled. Pain rushing through him and stabbing through his body, as a flow of power. A sense of power and a presents flowing through him and him into another filled with pain.

Johnathan watched the scene, fughtingbhis own pain and the odd sense of the other presence flowing through him. He tried to fight the pain, he tried to do as he needed to complete this task as he was supposed to.

Kevin sighed, as he watched Johnathan, he wanted to guide him, to explain to him what to do. But he knew he couldn't, that the more he interfered the greater the chance that Johnathan wouldn't survive.

As Johnathan watched, all Kevin had explained happened. He saw Kevin, he saw the previous betas. He could feel their power and the presence of others. It took everything in him to hold on and to not let go. He had to keep just enough control to make it through this. To make it through to the next part for his brother.

It wasn't long before Kevin kneeled, catching Johnathan as he was just coming out of it. He sighed and smirked slightly, "Still breathing?"

"Trying." Johnathan grunted, though a small smirk played at his lips. He leaned against Kevin for support a moment until he felt good enough to sit up on his own. He felt utterly drained as he looked to Kevin. "Now the final one?" He asked, his nervousness obvious.

Kevin sighed as he got the bowl to mix the last one, "You never really knew your grandfather as Alpha. So, I will let you in on a secret, a War Alpha is nothing like an Alpha you have met. They are hard to look at, hard to stand by and hard to talk to." he glanced to Johnathan, "If your brother picked you under your grandfather, you would probably have died by now, or just been rejected." he sighed as he finished up and brought the bowl to Johnathan. "Alpha Garrett was amazing and best for the pack in his time. But don't forget, he is not your Alpha. He won't be able to see you, but you will see us all." then he smirked, "Beta Julius is a War Beta, too. So, don't be surprised if she scares you a bit." he advised, handing him the bowl, "But know, she is the best Beta to have learned from and what she is going to do, she does because it is what a Beta is. Trust in that." he sighed.

Johnathan looked to Kevin hesitantly and then to the bowl. “So I am to watch and learn while I go through this.” He stated more than asked as he reached for the bowl. He was nervous about what was going on. He looked to Kevin one last time and took a deep breath. “Okay, hopefully I see you after.” He said with a weak smile as he drank from the concoction handed to him.

Kevin sighed, nodded, before he saw Johnathan go down, catching him just in time to lay him down and wait, he sat down, "Good lucky, kid." he said as he looked at him with a smirk.

Kevin was a teenager, just finishing up training when he stopped in front of Julius, she had her arms crossed and looked at him with a cold sigh, "You need to work on your stealth. The last thing an Alpha needs is a noisy Beta."

Kevin was about to protest, before Julius glared at him, Kevin nodded, "Of course, Beta. I will work on my stealth for the next time."

Julius sighed, as she uncrossed her arms, "Come on. Alpha Garrett wants us in the Beta House. The shifters are moving again and it'll be dangerous for us to miss this chance." She said turning away and she started to the Beta House.

Kevin hurried to follow beside her, "Does that mean, Arthur and I will be able to help. We are staging an attack, aren't we?" he asked curiously.

Julius sighed, "What is a Beta's number one law?"

"Follow and protect the Alpha, so he can protect the Pack." Kevin nodded.

"We are not concerned with the shifters attack. We advise the Alpha on this matter. What he needs us to do, we do. So, we don't worry about the attack against the shifters, we keep them away from our Alpha." Julius said, seriously.

Kevin nodded, "We keep him safe." he agreed. "So...we are just going to get the info and see what the Alpha needs?"

Julius sighed, frustrated as she stopped, surprising Kevin, who stopped beside her, "It's not you or I's concern what is in store for us. If the Alpha demands us, we go. We do as we are told and we follow orders. Only when it effects our Alpha do we have the right to challenge his ideas, but he has the final say and we don't question it. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, and that link is always the one that doesn't follow the commands of lead."

Kevin looked at her ashamed and nodded, "Of course, Beta. I'm sorry, I will do better."

"You better." Julius demanded, "Because you can only take my place if you survive my training and if I believe you are a threat to my or your Alpha, I will kill you without a second thought." she told him, "Don't forget. You were chosen by Arthur, but you have to get through me, before you can become his Beta."

Johnathan watched with curiosity. He was surprised, he knew a lot of pack history, he’d had to learn. But he felt he knew very little about his grandfather and his grandfather’s beta. It was interesting to see the way she worked and how strict she was.
He returned his attention to what was happening, keeping in mind the things Julius said. He had a hard time with orders, though he understood that following them was in part to help ensure the Alpha’s life remained safe.

Julius walked away from Kevin, who took a moment before he rushed to follow after her. It didn't take long for them to get to the Beta House, Julius entered and went straight to the study, where Garrett was standing, Arthur looked frozen beside him, in place. He had obviously been snapped at, like Kevin had just been. For a moment both boys smirked at each other, before Arthur looked to his father, who glared at him and Arthur put on a serious face. Julius looked at Garrett without a thought on it, "Alpha." she bowed briefly, as did Kevin. "Arthur." she bowed again and Kevin did too, showing them the same respect.

Alpha Garrett nodded in approval, before he motioned to the map on the desk, "I scouted through the east trees, this evening and found some scouts of my own." he said motioning to an area, "They were scattered all along here."

Julius looked over the map and cross her arms, glancing to Alpha Garrett with a nod, that she understood. Arthur stood with his father and Kevin moved beside Julius to watch. "I assume they are still scattered?"

Alpha Garrett smirked darkly, "I wouldn't be protecting my pack if I let them be so close and did nothing."

"You should have called for me." Julius stated.

"It was a simple matter, 23 at most, I didn't see a point."

"They are shifters, Alpha." she pointed out, "They out power us four to one and there is no telling if they outnumber us."

"And I am stronger then this pack together. That matter is done."

"No." Julius looked at him with her cold eyes, "The matter is not done. I am your Beta, any engagement of the enemy is to include me, for your safety."

Alpha Garrett sighed, both frustrated as he puffed out his chest and in a thoughtful manner, before he nodded, to Julius, who stood her ground without showing any concern to the threatening stance of her Alpha, "You are correct. In war. But I didn't and I am fine. I will take that under advisement next time."

Julius turned to the map, sighing as she leaned over it, she motioned her hand where the Alpha showed the shifters were, "Looks if they were spotted there, they are coming from here." she said, pointing to a group of streams connected to a pair of waterfalls.

"I thought that too. A good place to regroup and plan." Alpha Garrett stated, before he smirked, "I am sending the first wave to check on them. I thought your trainee would do well, to lead it."

Julius looked surprised slightly, but not as surprised as Kevin, but he said, nothing, Julius sighed, glancing to Kevin, "He might be able to handle something this small, but he has only managed three Elites so far. A shifter might be a little much for him."

Garrett nodded, "Understood. I will send him with an Elite to advise him and orders to only scout for all the information." he stated.

Julius nodded, "I will prepare the Elite for your selection and Kevin for the trip."

Garrett glanced at Kevin, his face looked hard with a stone expression, "I trust you will not come back without the information to report to me."

Kevin looked nervous, Alpha Garrett had only spoken to him when he allowed him to start training, other then that, he didn't think the Alpha ever glanced his way. He nodded, "On my life, Alpha. I will get you all the information we can without engaging in an all out battle with the enemy." he stated, as best he could recall. Alpha Garrett scared him a bit, not just because he hardly expressed anything but because he always looked like he was aiming to find just the smallest mistake to kill you for.

Garrett nodded, turning to Arthur, "Beta Julius and I have work to speak of, take your friend to prepare. Check on your mother, on your way home."

Arthur nodded, "Yes, father." he said quickly before Kevin and he got out of there. Outside, they walked for a little while, before they both started to chuckled, "Did you see my father's face. I don't think he has ever stood down so fast."

Kevin chuckled, nodding, "I noticed. Julius looked like she was going to hurt him. I can only imagine what would have happened if your mother was allowed Beta."

Arthur smirked, "I don't believe father would be so concerned with the shifters."

"Nope. Probably prefer them over facing your mother." Kevin laughed, and that made Arthur laugh.

"What's so funny?' said a soft sweet voice behind them. They stood and turned to a girl a little shorter then them, but the same again.

"Pack matters." Kevin stated proudly, "Nothing for you to worry about."

The girl crossed her arms, "Well, then I guess, since you are talking pack stuff, I shouldn't mention Our Luna has sent me to find you."

Arthur looked at her, before she turned to leave, he grabbed her arm, "We are sorry, Delia. Promise."

Kevin nodded, "Yeah. Where is the Luna? Alpha Garrett wanted us to go find her. We are really sorry."

Delia eyed them both, then sighed, "Evening training session in the east side of temple, she thought you two could use some more help." Delia smirked at suggesting they weren't able to keep up with their training.

Kevin and Arthur looked at each other concerned, "Crap." they both snapped before rushing off to the east area.

Delia looked confused and watched them, raising her arms, "What? it's just the temple."

Johnathan watched in concern as the scene unfolded before him. He had been so focused on watching the interaction between Garrett and Julius as well as how Arthur and Kevin acted that he didn’t pay as much attention to the map they had been looking at. He tried to remember what he could of their history but it was like his mind was fuzzy, like he could only focus on what he watched from the previous betas to learn. But he recalled the shifters being spotted on the east side and realized why it was so bad the Luna was on the east side too.
