Mirrors and Clocks

Taken aback by the green-eyed girl who hadn't been there a second ago, Dominick said, "I-I wasn't going to... the job says we... we have to remove the bear. But how are we supposed to 'just let if go somewhere else', without it coming back to this guy's house? It has the whole forest; there must be a reason why it's here and not somewhere else."
"Okay Jack! Let's stalk you to your room so you can hurry up and go on this job with us." Alyss laughed, however she was by no means kidding about stalking him to his room. She looked at him again and asked, "What room number are you? It better be nearby. We only have four days; don't want to waste any time. Oh, by the way, what are your powers?" Though she didn't want to overwhelm him, Alyss said all this in a rushed string of words.

"So... we have to do jobs then? Will they be fun jobs? Or will they be scary jobs? They can't be too dangerous, right? It would be very bad if they let students do jobs that could get them hurt, right? Oh! Here it is!" Lula stopped her nervous rambling when they came to a door with their room number on it. "We can drop our stuff off here and then go see what jobs they have, right?" Lula questioned, "Do you have the key?" Now that she had opened up to Nezumi she wasn't so shy about talking to her.

"Sounds like a plan, stan!" She smiled at Lula. Nezumi pulled the key out of her pocket and waved it at Lula. She unlocked the door and turned the knob, kicking it open. She stepped off to the side to let Lula come in. She leaned up against the doorway and studyed the bed that was taken. "I wonder if our roommates new or an existing student?" She asked aloud, twirling the room key around her finger. She took her backpack off and threw it on the empty bed Lula hadnt picked. It made a loud crash as it hit the wall.

"My brother isnt texting me back..." She said to herself as she toyed with her cell phone in her pocket. "That baka. So I heard the jobs are scaled from 1-11.. I say we do an 11." She said in a slight jokingly manner. She looked up at Lula to get her reaction.

Lula's indigo eyes widened "I-I'd rather um... Not... How about a nice two? Or better yet a one. A one sounds like fun." She tugged nervously on the hem of her dress. "Or maybe I'd just like to explore the camus. The nice safe camus, haha!" Lula was on the brink of tears.

Nezumi started giggling.

"I'm kidding, one sounds like a good starter and easy money!" She started to explore the little nooks and crannies of the room. She dived into her bed and rolled around a bit. She sat up and bounced up and down, patiently waiting for Lula to finish her settling.

"Cooommmeee oooonnn Dmytri!" She groaned as she fell back onto her bed. "The big lug's taking forever. I betcha he got lost!" She shot back up and walked towards the door. "You ready, little one?"

((sorry for not answering T_T... i'm going to guess Jack's preceding question was "what?".... right?))

"Wait," Alyss said, "Do you not know what this school's about?" She didn't wait for a reply and began explaining to him, "Well, you see the cork-board. There's lots of little pieces of paper on there, and each one is a request sent by someone who wants help from people here. There can be multiple pieces of paper for one request, if someone wants more than one group to do one. Right now, Largo found a request for killing or removing enchanted wolves, and possibly werewolves. We only have three people now, and want more to be safer."

((Haha, it's cool. Yes, that was his question. ^-^))

Jack nodded, keeping up with the river of words coming out of Alyss's mouth. As she talked, he picked his backpack up off of his shoulder and opened the front compartment. He pulled out some heavily dented metal gloves, slinging his backpack back over his shoulder. "Look," he requested during the short pause in her speech. He put the armor on his hands, and his room key quickly ascended out of the left pocket in his jeans and in the blink of an eye, launched to his hand with a clink. He chose something simple; he didn't like have any particular interest in showing off his bland power. "It's one hundred and tw--" he paused as she went on another rant, explaining the school. He stared at her icily as she spoke. God damn it.

He studied her words in his head for a short second and said, "Alright," as he picked up the key and flipped it in front of her face to shower her the number: 123.

Julia had been standing there besides the girls and the guy waiting for Alyss to finish her explanation. She had suppressed a chuckle when she saw Jack's look as Alyss started once again to talk. She was not leaving him the time to even speak. She stuffed her hands on her pockets and when Alyss finished she just chuckled "Well I guess he already understands the basics, Alyss. Maybe we should take him to his room already. We can all get to know each other as we walk"

(I'm a little lost > < Hope you don't mind I just jump in!)

Slightly out of breath, Alyss just nodded to Julia. Then she said, "That's a cool power! Though I don't know how it'll work with wolves..." She was going to add more but closed her mouth, finally catching on to Jack's look. Alyss quieted down and adjusted her headphones. She asked Julia and Largo, "Do you guys know where the 100 dorms are? Jack's room is 123."

Lula sighed in relief, laughing at her own foolishness when Nezumi said she was only joking. "Okay, a one then." Lula agreed. Sge took a few more slow breaths to calm herself as Nezumi hopped on the bed. When Nezumi asked her if she was ready to go, Lula nodded quickly and followed after her out of the room. In her mind, Lula saw the image of a pink-feathered baby duck following a grown-up duck and she giggled out-loud.

Perhaps telling him was a mistake, as the biggest source of power around was probably him at the moment. "I have never been able to pinpoint exactly who or where a source is. All I know is there is one. Just like earlier, I can only assume those closest to me." Still he stood up, agreeing to follow Dmytri whether it be was due to the negative emotions coursing him into it, or the simple abstractness of it.

"But during this conversation sources have dissipated and come back.. It is quite possible that the sources have even changed.." The thought that he could be wrong also rang through his head. " If it gets the thoughts out of your head however, let's go look for her. Just keep in mind, I can't locate her myself"

"...Wait." Irina turned to the bear. After getting a good look at it, she turned back around. "I think this man has taken this poor mother's baby boy. " She gave the man a fish's face. "Where is it?"

Roo was surprised. He had no idea that Irina had taken a liking to animals. He turned to the man in the corner and gave him a disappointed look.

((Blah))

"Thanks," Dmytri replied. "Let's go, We'll check the courtyard first." He turned and left the room quickly. As they left and hurried down the corridor towards the corridor, Dmytri's thoughts were racing. Nezumi... Let it not be Nezumi.

"Considering the circumstances, I feel obligated to tell you why this news has provoked such a reaction out of me." Dmytri tone was serious. "My sister is a Mood Sensor. She's getting better at controlling it but it can take over her. When she has an involuntary spell, the negative moods transfer onto herself and magnify ten fold. When this happens, it can consume her. Negative feelings are the only thing that affect her in this way. When she goes into those negative states, her manipulator abilities cannot be controlled. They act as a defense mechanism and anyone around her can be sensed as a threat. They shield around her and sometimes lash out. Hence, these scars... It's a long story." Dmytri went quite. His only concern at the moment was Nezumi. He took solace in the fact there was no panic in the hallways. "Perhaps I'm overly concerned, I'm sure the students here are elite and can protect themselves but I would like it if Nezumi were not exposed to the consequences of her none deliberate actions."

(OCC: I keep reading that last sentence over and over and wonder if it makes sense :/ lol)

----------

Nezumi looked at the giggling girl and smiled. As they walked down the hall towards the courtyard, Nezumi turned and looked at the little pinkette.

"I like you!" She exclaimed, "Not in a homosexual way, by the way, haha, but in like a little sister sorta way." She turned around again and gazed around at the scenery. "Wonder what kind of jobs there are?" She slowed her pace and walked beside the pinkette. Taking long, slow deliberate strides with her hands behind her back.

"So..." She asked. "How old are you? Why did you come to this fine institution?"

(Lol you guys are hilarious :D ....and sorry for the wait I had three different people wanting to talk to me for an hour each, and then the first one called me all over again...le sigh. Plus it doesn't help that I really suck at focusing!!! D:)

Largo Laughed a little to herself at the funny social situation occurring around her. Alyss was so hyper, telling Jack all of the things she had just been told herself, and Jack seemed pretty laid back and unsociable. She thought the two of them together could likely be a cohesive friendship. At Julia's mention of taking Jack to his room, Largo looked for herself at the numbers on Jack's key. "one two three." She said aloud, almost disbelieving it herself. "Of all the possibilities! The irony I swear!" She furrowed her eyebrows, slightly at odds with herself. Was this really just coincidence or was a strange string of fate already weaving together this group? Shall I take them to that room? After a sigh and inward struggle, she had made her decision, "Come on Jack, I know exactly where to take you."

(Payton, it makes perfect sense to me!)

Jack turned his perpetual glare to Julia. "Yeah," he said. His attention was caught by Largo, letting her lead the conversation. He nodded, and the grip he held on his luggage tightened as if to prepare him for the long walk into the corridors. His face returned to its usual blank expression. "Huh, weird" he stated in a rather surprised tone of voice. I didn't think of that. One, two, three. Huh.

Following a short distance behind Dmytri, Ryder himself was trapped in a fit of frustration. Not only because he was pulled away from the room when he finally got comfortable, but instead it was due to inner thoughts. The more this guy talked, the more he became scrambled as to what to think. In one case someone who can amplify negative emotions within themselves would make an incredible power source. However, if they were not on a job the sudden power surges would just be purely annoying at that level.

Staring at the back of Dmytri's head, he couldn't help but feel that if they formed a job group it may even pull his sister. It was a double edge sword that allowed him vast power in any scenario. A single person holding the negative energy close to ten people. Pushing two fingers to his temple, covering his right eye in the process he tried to rid all thoughts from his head. "What idiot tells someone with my power that his sister makes the perfect generator."

"It seems that you are an overly caring brother in a couple of the wrong places.." He spoke out when the courtyard was once again visible. The reason of why he had come was beginning to blur. "Now that I think about it.. Are the dorms separated between genders?" It was possible, since he did not really remember passing any females on the way to or from the room.

(Now that I think about it, wasn't it mention before about separate dorms?..)

(thanks MsTeaTime lol i was wondering about that)

Dmytri turned to respond to Ryder.

"Now youre probably wondering why I'm telling you this considering what youve told me about your powers?" He smirked. "We're in a heavily populated school where 100% of the student body is "gifted". One person I can handle... Who knows who else has a gift like yours." Dmytri was always decorated in school for his high intelligence. He knew the risk of telling Ryder but he looked at him as a formidable rival.

At that moment, WHAM! He ran into someone. He regained his focus and saw the cute pink hair chick he ran into before. He grabbed the girl by the shoulders again to regain her balance.

"Largo..." He chuckled nervously. "I am so sorry."

------

Nezumi and Lula were just entering the courtyard when something caught Nezumi's eye.

"Hold that thought..." Her voice trailed off. She looked back at Lula and motioned for her to follow. She seen her brother surrounded by a group of people. He had his hands on a girls shoulder. She noticed a blonde guy standing behind him looking very irritated. Nezumi thought he was glaring at her brother. She felt a little disdain.

"Brother bear," Nezumi said loudly as she approached the group. She looked at the stunned pinkette and smiled mischeviously. "It's only the first day and youre already putting the "moves" on this poor unsuspecting victim." She elbowed her brother in the ribs. She winked at the pretty girl. She looked at the others, studying them and averted her attention to the blonde guy cloaked in black. She looked him up and down.

Dmytri's face turned red and he quickly released Largo's shoulders.

"I didnt... I'm not." He chuckled again nervously as he scratched his head. "NEZUMI! Wha... What's wrong with you!" He exclaimed loudly as he punched his sister in the arm.

"Whats wrong with me!" She glared at him, focusing on her brother yet again. She grabbed his fist as he was retreating it. "Dont make me beat you up in front of your girlfriend." She stuck her tongue out at him. Dmytri pulled his hand back to his body and started scratching his head again. "Just so you know, I dont hurt girls.. Thats the only reason she could be beat me up. Anyways! So sorry about bumping into you again." He awkwardly patted her on the shoulder, brushing them off.
(I keep editing it, sorry lol)

(Oh my god he ran into her again Lolololol. Too funny. -----& Dream, I do seem to remember that being mentioned as well. ) (Oh give me a second to edit too. xD ---okay there, I just added a paragraph to account for the changes.)

Largo was thinking over what her actions would be and what demeanor she would take on in the near future when she started leading Leading Jack, Alyss and Julia to dorm 123. She had her eyes to the ground deep in thought when a foot stepped into her field of vision and a body in her immediate peripheral vision. She only had a moment to squint her face and turn her cheek when WHAM, she was knocked back onto her heals--already tilting back on one foot and lifting the other to catch herself when a familiar pair of heavy hands gripped her shoulders and held her up.

"Largo.." She heard the familiarly concerned voice. She blinked to settle herself and regain focus when her eyes darted over the same worried face from before. The same light blonde hair, deep eyes and not uncharmingly scarred skin. "I am so sorry" He said again.

She planted her feet firmly to the ground so that his stabilizing grip could relax while she smiled a bit embarrassed. "Dmytri...sorry" She was sure it was her fault once again for not paying attention to where she was going. "It seems like we'll be running into each other a lot from now on." She laughed a little in her statement. She noticed behind him peeked another blonde guy, one that looked a bit shorter, paler and perpetually unamused. She sealed her lips feeling a bit foolish for walking into someone while she was supposed to be leading her friends. A sharp but faint pain jolted up her arm and she looked down to the source to see a small incision in her palm and red coloring on the edge of her yellow request slip. A paper cut. She must have crunched the paper the wrong way when bracing for the disconcerting collision.

She put the hand in her pocket with the slip, not wanting to draw attention to her meager cut in light of the situation. While pinching the paper in her pocket the idea came to her, "Oh..Um. Actually this could be a good thing." She realized that she said this right after saying that they'd be bumping into each other a lot. So to clarify she added, "I mean, having just bumped into you. We," She indicated Jack, Alyss, and Julia behind her--Jack who also looked perpetually unamused, "were actually just looking for a few more members for our group. We're doing a level seven request that requires us to split up our objectives and people...anyways, would you be interested? You and," She looked again at the boy next to Dmytri and could sense the tension between them but said anyways, "and you friend?"

It was then that a girly yell grabbed the attention of everyone. A cute, punky looking girl approached them with a wickedly amused expression before striking her brother in the rib cage. When she mentioned "the moves" and Largo realized whom she was referring to, she arched her brow high and sealed her lips tight again. She would have been embarrassed herself if it weren't for the release of tension and replacement of humor and chiding that took place when the two siblings interacted together. She replaced her tight mouth with a smile and looked up at Dmytri a little concerned while he brushed her shoulder's off. "I'm fine. Thank you." She put her right arm over her ribs and pinched and pulled at her her white sleeve again, another lapse into indulged bad fidgeting habits.

(Oh... My parts are almost too serious.... I think.. )

"Wha-" His voice was cut short as he watched the collision. 'tever.." This time mumbled, merely wanting to finish the word if to no one else, himself. This guy tried to act somewhat cool on a few occasions, but situations that proved to be the opposite occurred often from what he could tell. All he could do was stare at the back of Dmytri, waiting for them to continue on with their little 'mission' so he could finally go rest peacefully.

That of course, was until another voice shouted out, rapidly approaching this unorthodox group. Taking a moment to look her over, and decipher exactly who she may have been. When the majority of attention was diverted to the two siblings he scratched his head. It had seemed the very thing he wanted to avoid this morning was already occurring. Talk of a level seven mission had already commenced without him being completely aware. And if he thought about it, wasn't one of those questions directed towards him? He pondered, a couple moments have passed since it was asked, a mere silence.

It was true, he had little cash to buy everything he needed. It would probably take some fine budgeting but he could probably do it. However, if he were to take the safer route and go ahead with a job the payout could prove substantially beneficial. With this number of people it was possible that he wouldn't even have to do anything. As well, he would have a harder time of figuring out who's emotions he was toying with. " About the job." He spoke when everything seemed to calm down slightly.

Again he averted his attention to Dmytri and his sister. If what he said was true about the sister, she really would be a powerful tool for him, but was it too powerful? "I will have to decline. Running about on the first day is tiresome after all. " The siblings were too close. When Dmytri said the scarring was from his sister, he thought the two were on off terms despite the brother's worry. If her darker emotions were strong enough to break through all reason, it was dangerous. So he would succumb to the mild fear of being taken over by that darkness.

"..Be consumed by Darkness" The voice barged into his head once again from deep memories, altered from the core of his fear.

"It would be obnoxious to go with a squad anyways." Though he spoke coldly, his real hopes were to alter the negative emotions. Pushing away from fear, the other dark energies were easier for him to control. "See you back in the room Dmytri. It seems worry was for nought." Nodding towards the sister he turned back around and began walking back for the room.

(im going to update quick because I'm off to work and wont be back on for another... 9 hours :/ , I hope I dont slow the thing down too much.)

Level 7. He thought to himself... He looked at Nezumi and pulled her away from the group.

"Just give me a quick moment with my sister." He requested as they pulled away. "What happened earlier?"

"What do you mean?" She asked her brother in return. She was greatly confused.

"It's a long story but did you have an Emotional Outburst while we were apart?" He asked. Nezumi glared at her brother.

"You know.." She looked up at him. "You dont have to know my business all the time you big Know-It-All. I did, nosy, and I took control of it!" Her voice getting noticeably louder.

"Nezumi..." He said calmingly. "I'm just worried is all. I dont want it to get out of control." He tried putting a calming hand on his sisters shoulder. She slapped it away.

"Don't patronize me!" She hissed. "We're not even here for 2 hours and you already know my business! Sometimes I wish you'd just stay out of it! I'm stronger now and I can calm myself-"

"That doesnt always work, Nezumi." He gave her a stern look. As though to remind her of the scars on his body. She stood there with her mouth open.

"Yeah well.." She looked at the group whos attention was now turned on them. She noticed the blonde guy watching her. It made her alittle uneasy but curious. He nodded at her and she paused for a second as she watched him. "H-Have fun. Stay out of my business!" She turned around quickly towards Lula. "AND DONT FOLLOW ME, DMYTRI" She turned around and yelled as she stormed away from the group. Her thoughts trailing away from her anger and towards the mysterious blonde that was standing behind Dmytri. Dmytri stood there like a bus just hit him. That temper, Nezumi... He thought as he walked back to the group.

"I'm in..." He looked at Lula. His demeanor switched quickly to seriousness. He watched his sister carefully as she approached the corkboard. He turned around and looked at Ryder with a raised eyebrow as he saw him walk away.

(If you need to you can make Dmytri follow behind with the rest of them MsTeaTime, well just say hes quiet thinking about the argument with his sister.)
let me re-edit quick. (done)

(Dream, I think it's cool. It's refreshing and fundamental to have a character that has as distinct of a personality as Ryder, even if it's a negative or fearful one if that makes sense. It's good to have variation. lol ---& Payton, thanks for the heads up & I'm guessing you meant he looked at Largo in that last bit.)

Dmytri and his sister didn't seem to having a very pleasant private conversation. Largo glanced over instinctively when the girl's voice raised and, "I took control of it!" rang over the other voices in the courtyard. They settled a bit even though the girl slapped her brother's protective hand away in Largo peripheral vision. This time she looked away, she was against prying in other people's affairs unless it had to do with fulfilling a mission. Strangely ironic considering the gift she possesses is made for prying.

She was waiting peacefully for situations to get settled when the blonde boy that was accompanying Dmytri stated coolly, "I will have to decline. Running about on the first day is tiresome after all."

Largo wasn't going to insist, he was perfectly within his right to rest on his first day. It wasn't until he added, "It would be obnoxious to go with a squad anyways" that her eyes flickered in confusion, searching for clues along his worn expression. He turned to leave and Largo wanted to stop him or say something to convince him but she couldn't find the words. "Perhaps next time." She said quietly, almost to herself as she stared at his back in curiosity. He was still new, there would be time for him to learn that doing things in teams is a crucial element of and progression in the academy.

Dmytri's tiny sister stormed off shortly after his friend, but Largo wasn't worried, siblings would always come together in the end. He still looked concernedly at his sister though, even while he agreed to join their group.

"If you're sure, then we were just on our way to take Jack," she introduced the stoic guy, "to his dorm room where we will hopefully find his roommate and our last group member." Their meeting (Largo/Dmytri) had been awkward and forced but ended in mutual benefits.
(I ended up redo-ing my post, so here's me posting again to alert everyone. :P )

Jack scanned the scene. Though the events taking place were fairly amusing, Jack couldn't help but only take notice that he didn't know a thing about anyone here. He was able to learn and guess the names of most, but there were still a few that were complete strangers. Looks like it's time to take advantage of all this unimportant stuff going on and see what I can figure out about these guys..

He looked around and started assuming things about every single 'gifted' student here. There was Alyss, a rather excitable and... forward girl. He assumed her power probably had to do with some sort of pure element that matched her personality. There was Julia, who seemed lighthearted and warm.. It would probably be a bit silly to assume that her hair and eyes make her an earth type manipulator, Jack thought. There was the intelligent but clumsy Largo.. Well, I don't really know what the hell her power is. Obviously it isn't balance.

Then Jack took a look at the fight-picking people that entered the scene. Let's see.. Largo called the big scarred up guy.. Demi Tree? Demi Tree. What a name. Demi probably didn't try to kill himself with fire, though that hardly looks like it was an accident. Hmm.. I suppose it's safe to say based on the prominent sibling rivalry taking place that his little sister is one hell of a pyromaniac... And, since his name means 'small tree,' he probably-

Jack stopped his train of thought before it went any further into prattle. After the unfriendly blonde broke off along with the Tree's vexatious little sister, Largo finished introducing him to Mr. Tree and the group started to head off to North Wing, Jack spoke up. "Yeah. In the meantime we should get to know each other. Become familiar with what powers we're dealing.. with.." his relaxed voice trailed off into his thoughts, his blank expression returning once more to his face.

((on the topic of separate dorms: i think the original character sheet thread might have said that, but if so i'm changing it: dorms are co-ed, rooms obviously aren't. also sorry i was gone ono i seem to have missed a lot "^^))

Alyss watched the siblings argue and the sister and kind of mean blonde guy walk away. At least we picked up another person... Alyss thought. She responded to Jack, who had stayed to the side of the disputing siblings and goings-on like Alyss did, "Good idea. I can make mist, ice, rain, and weather-y snowy things happen... I can alter something's temperature, and control small plants by using the water in them. My name's Alyss," this was addressed to the new guy who had joined them, "and I'm sixteen years old... just got here a few hours ago." She smiled slightly awkwardly, waiting for someone to reply. It was hard to get to know people in a few minutes, but they would need to know each others' fighting skills when battling the wolves. "I can use short swords and knives. And climb trees and run pretty well."

"I thought we could actually talk about this all at once when we have everyone together." Largo glanced back and told Jack. She already had a good idea of what key rolls needed to be filled in the upcoming mission. She knew most of their abilities as well, save for the fact of Jack and Dmytri. She was excited on the inside to explain her strategy but showed no expression of it as she led them out of the courtyard. "It's not that far really." She informed them as she led them to the brick staircase at the end of what was still considered the courtyard, attached to training facility number two. She took a hold of the old metal railing, pulling herself around to the steps as she did so.

(im back :) )

Dmytri fell behind, half listening to the voices conversing among the group. He hated upsetting his sister. He never intends to, hes just concerned. He was also mildly embarrassed. He shook his head of his thoughts. She'll get over it, She always does... He thought to himself.

"I'm sorry about the sudden dispute earlier. I did not intend for the conversation to take such a turn." He said aloud to the group. "My sister is a nice person. She just has a quick temper."

--------

Nezumi turned and looked at Lula.

"I'm really sorry," Nezumi said sadly "I cant do this right now. Why dont you review the board and pick something. I'm down for any mission so whatever you like!" She smiled falsely at Lula. "I'm just going to grab my stuff from him and head back to the room. I'll see you later, little one." She turned and walked out of the courtyard.

She walked around the school a little bit, losing herself amongst the student body. She felt embarrassed and childish. Why does he stick his nose in my business all the time.. Its his fault... She thought silently. She walked for a little longer and found herself in front of a big oak door with the letters 125 carved into them. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and reviewed the text again.

"This must be it..." She mumbled to herself. She reached for the doorknob but stopped. He probably has a roommate. Best to knock first....

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK...
