Mirrors and Clocks

Alyss was again amazed by another's powers. She drew the water out of Largo's dampening clothes and said to no one in particular, "Think we should make our way to the mirror? Which number is it, again?" Wanting more than anything to be able to be of some use, Alyss was eager to improve upon her existing powers or gain more. She asked Julia and Largo, "Did you guys have to train to get your powers better?"

((* jabs a finger at first post on page seven, then clears throat meaningfully to N o i r*))

"Oh thanks.." Largo stopped wringing her sweater dry while Alyss pulled the rest of the water from it, "That's useful too.." She added before contemplating an answer to Alyss' question. "Well my willpower has to be strong in order to maintain control....In a sense that could be a literal metaphor for anyone with gifts. I suppose if you want it bad enough, you'll find a way--and for some people that's training, or simply just experience." It was the best she could do to answer the question. Largo's power wasn't quite the same as Alyss' though, perhaps Julia would have a better answer than her.

Julia laid her chin on her thumb and nodded "Well I did" She raised her hand again and twirled a tiny fire ball between her fingers quickly, as if that was a coin "At least with my pyrokinesis. It took me a while to get a hold of it but eventually I managed to do it. Once you grasp the core of it, it would flow naturally from then on, though some may do it soon others later. For example, I can now also control the paralysis I induce on other people but that was through experience before I arrived here, however, I still can't get hold of me being able to see others fears perfectly, they're usually only flashes of it, nothing concrete"

Alyss had noticed that, in the past, when she needed something or in a time when her power was the only thing that could help, she grew stronger and gained more control. "Hm. I'll have to think about this later... Let's do this job!" She was very eager to go on her first job, despite its difficulty of seven and their lack of more than three people. Alyss realized this after she spoke. "W-well, that is, if you think we have enough people and overall skill..."

Julia pushed herself up before speaking "I'm the same if we go or not just the three of us or more people. But if any of you would like to go and look for more people I'm okay with it" She brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear and smiled calmly, waiting for their answer.

"I wish my powers were that cool! I can only make myself invisible and fly. But I can't fly when I'm invisible, and I can't turn invisible when I fly. And I can't do either for too long or I'll faint." Lula explained, after Nezumi told her about her and her brother's abilities. "So... your brother is nice too? He looks scary with his scars... but then again, everyone looks scary to me... I'm just a wimp..." She laughed at herself.

Then Nezumi took out a lighter and Lula tilted her head in confusion, watching silently. "Oh wow!" She gasped, eyes wide in awe as Nezumi held the fire in her hand. "That's so beautiful..." And then the fire lifted off of her hand and began circling around Lula's head. "Wow..." She murmured.

(( Oh goodness e.e;; ))

Roo, while following Dominick to mirror 201, was thinking of a strategy to which familiar he would use. It was an easy decision but Roo had a habit of thinking things through to the outcome. He nearly didn't notice Dominick stop while he himself was thinking this, and he stepped back to look up at the clock.

A miniature cuckoo clock was attached, by duct tape, to a mirror. The outlining of the mirror appeared to be made of straw. Roo wondered if this pertained to where they were working.

"So we have to make it back by 9?" He asked, looking over Dominick's shoulder to peer at the time. "That won't be so hard. It's just a bear, right?"

((To that one post; it's even funnier. Go google "Quoth the raven swag galore". This is only an exerpt. ))

"They're not that impressive." She smirked, "My brother is amazing, he can summon and manipulate the water. Mines a cheap trick compared to his. He also can heal people. He's saved me many times before with his ability. The big softy. He's not scary at all. He's like a tall skinny teddy bear!" She smiled. She summoned the ball back to her. She opened her mouth and swallowed it. It died in her mouth and she blew out the smoke. "Now this is what I'm good at, haha, I can manipulate fire with the best of them. Winds tricky because its mainly tied to my emotions." She started to walk away and motioned Lula to follow her.

"You know," She said looking over her shoulder at Lula. "Dont sell yourself short. I would love to fly. Youre really lucky you can experience something like that. So shall we go to our dorm? Largo, right? She's our roommate as well? Wonder what shes like." She giggled abit and slowed down. She threw her arm over the girls shoulder and lightly punched her in the cheek.

"I got your back, cutie!" She exclaimed. "No need to worry when mommas around!"

"Momma...." She murmured. Is this what a momma is like? Lula had her father, who loved her dearly, and she had a step-mother, but her step-mother didn't really pay much attention to her. Lula didn't really mind, she didn't remember her real mother so she was ignorant to what a mother could really be like. "I wonder what we do at this school." Lula said, trying to make conversation.

"Hopefully we learn how to flex and control our abilities!" She said as she fist pumped. "Hand to hand combat, psh! I got that already. Ha ha, its weird we dont have classes though. Just jobs. How do we pass? Are we credited? Wonder if Largo will know." She searched her pocket for her cellphone, pulled it out and flipped it open.

Come get your bags, lazy. Room 125, North wing.

She smirked. She proceeded to send a response.

You come bring them! I want you to meet my friend. xD ttyl jerkface

She failed to realize she forgot to hit send. She shoved her phone back into her blazer pocket and walked beside her new friend.

"So are we going into the right direction?"

Jack stepped out of a sleek black car with his dark teal backpack slung over his shoulder and a suitcase behind him. He looked up at the intricate open gates with his usual blank expression and navigated his way towards the middle of the courtyard where a large mob was diminishing. That must be the cork board, he thought to himself as he stepped along the stone path. And the mirrors, cool.

Swordsmith Academy was much larger than he thought, with the towering buildings and lush gardens to his left and right. He strode over to the main offices and received a key from a lady clad in black that almost seemed to glare with at him for being particularly late in arrival. He shrugged it off and entered the courtyard with his luggage once more, pondering what to do next.

((grr, I am so horrible ^^'. Though I decided a certain post now is better than a probable one later despite the awkwardness from rushing..))

Ryder lifted his head slightly, looking toward Dmytri. Along with an extended explanation on his powers it would seem a lot more information would need to be filled in. "I suppose it is easier to get the bothersome facts about ourselves out of the way.." Once again he was forced to sit up, feeling that relaxation just would not come with another in the room.

"My power originates from negative emotions.. Whether it be those around me, or my own. I manifest it within this world, and use the ugliness of it's darkness as my weapon. " Once again he summoned the small orbs, letting them range out freely within the room. " In other words, my power increases when the people around me are in some form of pain. The darker the emotion is, the more power that is fed to me.. And when all is well, I am weak." Thoughts of how this conversation was taking place ran back through his head. Dmytri seemed somewhat hurried by the end of his questioning. "So I often feel the changes in my power.. Whether it is because I am suddenly alert, or suddenly tired.. As of when, it was just before you opened the door."

"Yeah, it's not going to be too difficult." Dominick reached his arm through the smoky-faced mirror, and then, with a moment's hesitation, stepped into it. He could hear the cuckoo clock behind him begin ticking away the seconds until 9 o'clock. Dom gazed out over the landscape. He was standing in the middle of a wheat field, or at least, that's what it looked like to him, being a city boy and all. A few meters in front of him a forest sprung up from the ground, not too thick at first but getting darker as he peered farther into it. Dominick looked to the left and saw more grassy plain. To his right flowed a lazy river, and to his left sat a small shack of a house, a hut with a thatched roof. "That's where the requestor lives?"

Alyss looked around for another person or two they could snag for this four-day job. A newly arrived guy still holding his bags caught her eye; [Jack] he was standing in the middle of the courtyard, set apart from the mob of kids at the cork-board. Without another thought Alyss exclaimed, "Jackpot! He's new, so doesn't have a group yet... And he'll want us experienced people—" here Alyss giggled, since she herself had been there no more than two hours, "—to show him around." Then she ran out of the garden and smiled while shouting to him, "Hi! I'm Alyss; are you new here? What's your name?"

Dmytri went quiet for a second.

"Can you pinpoint where the energy is coming from?" He asked concerningly, "I.. I dont know how or even if... My sister is... I dont know how to explain this but if its my sister thats causing that sudden surge, its just going it get stronger and everyone will be in trouble." He got up quickly and walked up to Ryder. "I dont want to sound like a pushy guy because im not but we have to go... Now." Dmytri was frantic. He wasnt sure how strong Ryder was but if the surge caused him a disturbance and if it was Nezumi than it was going to be bad. Especially if she was outside. He turned towards the door and started to nervpusly run his hands through his hair.

Jack's eyes shifted towards the shorter girl that caught sight of him. He had hoped for a moment that the long pause of him just staring at her without any emotion would drive her off so he could think clearly, but he gave up his efforts with a short-lived sigh and decided to speak for once. "Yeah. I'm Jack," he replied. He felt somewhat awkward with someone being so excitedly forward with him; however, as is his nature, he kept a calm face. "Nice to meet you," he said politely to the bright-eyed stranger.

(Sorry it's been all day, work again)

Largo was making calculations in her head when Alyss exclaimed about the new kid and ran to greet him. She didn't think it was a bad idea to enlarge their group, in fact she was thinking about encouraging it. "Either way I look at it," She glanced up to Julia from where she was still sitting on the fountain, "we should at least double our numbers." She went over it again in her head before explaining, "No matter what, we are going to have to divide ourselves into 3 parts. There's three objectives to this mission, not to mention it's our first one together. I can already see the best play possible with what we're given, but to make sure we all come out of it unscathed---we should be paired in twos. In case anything unexpected happens." Her strategy was coming together beautifully in her mind, like an expertly weaved fabric. "I won't say all the details now, but I believe that our first motive should be to form a group of at least six. Then I can explain everything at once." A gust of wind blew across the garden, blanketing Largo's face with her wavy hair. She brushed it back with her fingers, a look of surety gracing her face. She loved forming plans, and loved it even more when a good plan came together.

Alyss stopped running awkwardly as Jack stared at her expressionlessly. "Cool! I just got here a few hours ago. Want me to show you the office? You can get your key and room." She turned back to the two other girls. "That's Largo and Julia. We were about to go on a job but wanted more people... Think you might want to join us? After you put your stuff away, of course. Still, four seems like a pretty small number when faced with the possibility of werewolves..." Alyss said that last part to herself, thinking that they could walk through the dorms and look for more people to go on a job with. There have to be more new people here, Alyss thought.

Dominick had gone first through the mirror, sticking her hand then fully jumping in. Roo didn't need any confirmation or anything. He ran through the mirror, ending up in some rural landscape where there were wheatfields, a river, and a forest nearby. There was a small shack in the distance but it was, somehow shaking... " More than likely the requester is in there. " Roo rushed off to the scene.

He didn't bother knocking. He opened the door and saw a large bear knocking the house over. A slender man was shaking over at the side of the house, watching the bear cause mass chaos. "What the heck...?"

Julia nodded "Six people, huh? Good, if that new guy agrees, we just need to find 2 more" She could see Largo was planning something and well she thought she would just go with the flow and see which was her plan later. When Alyss turned back to both of them and introduced them she waved her hand at the guy with a normal friendly smile on her face. She then moved her hat a little to the other side and stretched before turning to Largo again "And do you happen to know anybody else who would like to join us? Or we're going to look for them instead?"

Jesus, I haven't been here five minutes and I'm already being asked to join a group! Jack thought to himself. Oh well. With the sudden inquisition of going on a job his main focus, his only response was "What?" He considered her last few words. Werewolves?

His attention darted back to the other girls. He half smiled at them, and with a small flick of his right hand, he waved. I really hope I'm not going to be the only guy in this group.

He familiarized himself with the ladies, one with layered citrus green hair and the other with wavy soft pink hair before returning his attention to the gal in front of her. (He checked them out. All of them.)

"I have my key. Just need to figure out where the room is." he stated, relaxing his stance a bit.

"Well I...." Largo brought her mind back to the surface from brewing plans in order to answer Julia's question. She wasn't familiar with a lot of people outside of her last group, which caused another light to go off in her head. "Well I might know one person..." She answered hesitantly. "But I rather call that person as a last resort." She laughed at her last comment a little guilty. "Shall we then?" Largo stood up from her fountain seat and walked towards Alyss and the other guy. "So are you interested in the job?" She asked him just after he stopped conversing with Alyss. She hadn't heard what they were talking about before. "And I didn't catch your name, mine's Largo."

"...Jack." He tilted his head at Largo. "Depends, though," he said, turning his head to look at Alyss for an answer to his preceding question. He stood there trapped in his own cage of thought, his mind travelling across the kind of adventures he might go across in this new academy. I knew they had portals with time limits and other students with various gifts.. The mirrors must be what Alyss was referring to when she talked about jobs. His brain pondered off into the realm of possibilities for the different abilities that might show up at this school. He wondered, too, how the people back at his old school were doing. He knew that his good friend (although rather annoying) Liam had transferred to a differen- wait...

It was a nice day outside, no clouds, plenty of sunlight trickling past the window panes and into a large messy room with a punching bag hanging in the middle. Pale boney feet kicked rumpled cloths across the floor, clearing a space around the mahogany sack of masochistic boxing equipment. Grey pajama pants hugged the pale feet that were attached to a masculine but thin frame and body. A radio was vibrating a wooden bedside table in the corner of the sunlit room, shaking particularly hard at the instrumentals and chorus of the song where the drums and guitar thrummed rather loudly together in a complex musical cacophony. The door to the room was cracked and the sounds were heavily seeping through the opening and into the hallway.

Thin, dark caramel hair whipped the air while the boy's head bobbed to the beat. His body moved in a dance like fight against the lightly worn sack, his lips mouthing some of the words simultaneously,

I haven't felt the way I feel today,

in so long it's hard for me to specify.

I'm beginning to notice how much this feels like a waking limb!

pins and needles!

nice to know you!!

goodbyyyyyeee~

When the song came to a rustling end and the cd skidded to a halt in the player, the boy wrapped his arms around the punching bag and hung his body off of it. "I'm bored." He stated aloud with an obvious frown, cheek pushed against the pleathery surface of the bag and his feet sliding limply across the floor.

((lol I'm going to ignore the fact that you called Dominick a her xD ))

Dominick raced after Roo through the field of waving plants, and heard a ruckus coming from the inside of the house before seeing a large grizzly bear ransacking the house and a frail man cowering in the corner. How was he able to send the request like that?! Dom quickly unsheathed his swords and striking the bear's back with one. Very shocked, the bear leapt forward through one of the walls of the house. Crap! Hopefully we don't have to pay for repairs... The bear turned to see Dominick rushing at it with his dual swords, walked forward a step, but stayed half in and half out of the house. Dominick shouted to Roo, "How are we supposed to capture this thing? Can we just chase it away from this guy's house?"

((I was thinking of Vivi. Let's just leave it at that. :U))

"I got it." Roo concentrated for just a bit, his mind somewhere else for a good five seconds or so. All of a sudden, a pink-haired girl with green eyes and a long frayed dress rose out of the ground and stood before Roo. She gave everything around her a confused look, "where did I enter in again...?" She asked herself, looking quite perplexed. Who wouldn't, since they were in a tumbling shack with a fragile man in the corner and a bear at the wall which was being threatened by a guy wielding two swords... Wait... Two swords?

"Nooo!" Irina shrieked, running to the side of the bear and holding her arms out. "Don't kill the poor bear! It's so innocent... Just let it go somewhere else. Killing poor animals is wrong!" She gave Dominick a pout.
