Marvel/Daredevil Roleplay

"If you don't want to be treated this way, do something about it." Matt added when he saw her attitude toward him. "You live your whole life playing into the idea that street rats are scum and then get angry when we treat you like you're dangerous. You are dangerous. You're unpredictable, unreliable, and stubborn. street rat or not, I would treat anyone with those characters this way. If you don't want to be treated like a street rat, get a name, get a file, and stop being one." He said firmly. "You of all people can start fresh. No one knows anything about you."

Anger boiled up in Sable's stomach to the point where it was burning her throat. She was furious, fed up, desperate. How ignorant of this fool. He was privileged in so many ways. No matter what tragedies he faced in his life, no matter what struggles he faced as a blind mind, there had to have been some blessings that ended him up here. Sable had nothing. No blessings, no parental figures, no kind words. This was all she knew, this was all she had. The street rats were the only ones who ever stood up for her, ever protected her. Matt wanted her to be part of these people, to join society. No. She would never be like them. No matter how hard she tried, no matter what she did, she was too different and she would never be accepted as one of them. There was no point. She slammed her fist down on the table, the ground shaking, "I have a name!" she stood up from her chair it hitting the ground, "My name is Sable! That is the only name I have ever had that was shown any compassion, friendship, and love! I'm not going to give it UP!" she screamed the last word, the light bulb popping and the windows two way mirror shattering. Sable stood there in the darkness, breathing slowly, trying to control her power and subdue it.

Matt wasn't started. He knew he was getting her riled up. He wanted to see what she was capable of, though he admitted it was a bad time. Foggy took Karen outside as she was very startled at this point. Maddie stayed. "Matt. I know how you think. Sable hasn't had a cut and dry life. Neither have you. Surely you get it." She spoke reasonably. Matt nodded. "I do get it. All I'm saying is that she can't go around blaming others when she gets treated like a criminal. Either you're a member of society or not. Both sides have pros and cons. I'm not asking you to give up who you are. I'm saying you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you're a street rat, you get treated like one. I'm more than willing to help you either way. Hell I'd even be your friend. No questions asked. Maddie trusts you, I do too. But your problems arent going to go away when Piper is put behind bars. There will always be people who discount you. Discriminate against you, and try to hurt you. No ones saying you deserve it. No ones saying its fair. But you made this choice. We all deal with the choices we make. I'm not trying to tell you what to do. I personally don't care. I'm just your lawyer. But I wanted to make it clear that if you put my friend in danger, it's not gonna go unnoticed or ignored. That's the choice I make." Matt said quietly, adjusting his glasses.

Sable was fed up with this lawyer. How dare he say she made her own decisions?! She didn't decide to be born a mutant, she didn't decide to be born an orphan, to be abandoned at a doorstep, to be neglected, abused, and forgotten. She didn't choose to be forced onto the streets for any form of survival. She didn't choose to become a mutant street rat anymore than a dog chooses to stick with the master that feeds them or die of starvation. She walked to the wall and placed a hand on it, shooting an angry glare at Matt before phasing through the wall and appearing on the other side. The wall becoming firm again. She stood there outside behind the police station for a second, turning to look at the now firm wall. Tears streaming down her face.

Matt heard her disappear from the room. He looked confused. "She just walked through the wall you asshole." Maddie scolded. "She didn't choose to be a mutant." "No, but she chose to push everyone away and act like that. She chose to let someone hand a life to her that she didn't make for herself." He responded. "Yeah well at least she doesn't choose to take the law into her own hands and beat the shit out of people in a mask." She hissed, walking out to find where sable had gone. she went around to the side of the building where she assumed the girl had come out. "Sable?" Maddie called quietly.

Sable sat with her back against the wall, her face burried in her arms which rested softly on the top of her knees. Her forearms damp with her tears. She didn't make a sound, just sat there, eyes dripping. Her straightened, but still frizzy hair fell over her arms and further masked her face. Despite Maddie's presence she said nothing, just sat, sniffling softly, her small delicate nose stuffed with desperation and emotional pain.

Maddie ran to the girl and sat beside her. She tentatively put her arms around the girl. "You didn't choose to be this way. You don't choose what your circumstances are in life. Believe me I get that. Matt does too, he just loses sight of it. He's pretty in control of his life. And when he's faced with those of us who don't feel the same way, he doesn't understand." She tried to explain.

"How can he represent someone like me if he doesn't even understand me?" Sable asked in a groggy voice intermittent with sobs, "I don't want to be here anymore... this is why no one leaves Piper... this is why everyone who does goes back." she wiped her eyes, "I just want to go back... it's the only place I've ever been accepted." she rubbed her eyes, "I want Ryder. I-" she remembered the betrayal, the look on his face. He had left her... left her laying there injured on the floor. More tears came, "I thought he cared... why did he-?" she cut off, unable to act tough anymore, unable to be strong, she felt exposed, weak, taken advantage of, and alone. Her shield was down.

Maddie held the girl close. "He wants to represent you because deep down he does understand. He didn't choose to be blind you know. But he's afraid to admit he understands because he's a stubborn obnoxious guy who likes to feel in control of his own life." Maddie listened to sable. "I know you do. I know. And I'm sorry he's not here. It sounds like you were close. I don't know why he did what he did. But I'm guessing he had a lot to lose, since he basically lost you in the process of what he did."

Sable wiped her eyes, "I was disposable obviously... I wasn't worth much." lifted her head, leaning it on Maddie's shoulder. She began to feel better. She had bottled everything up inside but finally she was letting it go. The tears stopped as she sat there, "I wouldn't do that to you, ya know." Sable said softly.

"I know you wouldn't." Maddie said softly. "Matt's always been overly protective of me. It's one of the things we fight about sometimes. He'll come around. It just takes time. He has a hard time trusting people. Perhaps harder than I do. He would never admit it though. Stubborn ass." She muttered, knowing matt could probably hear them through the wall. Matt was sitting down inside the room alone. He felt like crap. Sable was no threat to Maddie. She was just scared and upset. She put on a big show but when it came down to it she just wanted someone to care. Matt sighed.

"Yeah, well, guess that makes two of us then," Sable replied, surprised to the degree at which Matt sounded like herself from Maddie's description, a lack of trust and the stubbornness, the inability and distaste at expressing one's true internal state at the risk of being seen as weak. Sable hid her powers for a reason, she was afraid of them, she knew what she could do and she was afraid if she allowed her power to consume her too much, she wouldn't be able to stop it. Her first kill was when she was eight years old because she lost control. Oh well... it was either her or him.

Maddie chuckled. "You two are more alike than you know." She said with a small smile. "That's why you butt heads so much."

"Yeah..." Sable said as she sat, knees drawn up. She felt bad, she couldn't give them any information about herself. She honestly didn't know herself. She was dropped off at a door step and couldn't even begin to give help to the police to finding her records. She didn't know if she was born in a hospital. She didn't know what day she was born, to what parents, nothing, not even a surname. One had been appointed to her, and she hated it. It wasn't hers, but simply given to her by the people who hated her and cared nothing for her. She was Sable. That was it. That's all she knew.

"I know its not much information and we won't give it to the cops, but what exactly were the circumstances of your life before the street rats? How did you get here?" Maddie asked, curious.

Sable looked at Maddie, unsure if she could trust her. If Maddie betrayed Sable and shared any information with police or others, Sable would once again feel that pain of betrayal, the pain she'd come to know so many times, and the pain she experienced from the last person she thought would inflict it on her. Ryder. Sable kicked her feet out and sat slouched, her back loosely against the wall as she spoke, "I was raised in a home... basically overflow of the state. Kids who didn't have a foster home available for whatever reason: they couldn't find one that fit, they were all full, couldn't separate the siblings, or the kids were flat out problems and weren't wanted by foster homes." she pushed her hair out of her face roughly before continuing, "I was dropped off at the home when I was small with no information on who I was or where I'd come from. I was taken in, everyone assumed I was anywhere from 4-8 weeks but no one knew for sure. I was very small, like a preemie baby. Being an infant, I was quickly assigned a foster home with foster parents. I don't really remember them, just that things were pretty good there, until I started making weird things happen in the house. I didn't mean to and I don't remember doing it, but I hurt other kids and I guess I scared teachers, neighbors, coaches... they couldn't keep me anymore so I was taken back to the home I had showed up at years before. I stayed there for quite a while. It was a horrible place. The government didn't fund it well enough... there were drugs being passed around by the teenagers, gang activity, neglect from the house parents, abuse... ridiculous punishments, even sexual abuse happened to the teenage girls usually from male house parents and to the young girls around ages 5-10 by the teenage boys who lived in the house. It was.... awful. I caused one of the boys to have a seizure once... after that, none of the other kids messed with me besides the occasional beating or mean words. I remember I was always hungry and my head hurt all the time." Sable explained, "I was constantly taking children's tylenol. It didn't help. One of the older boys, one who was my friend, snuck me some Percocet from the emergency kit. Sable laughed, "I got addicted to that shit pretty quick. I think I was about 7 at the time. It made my head aches worse, especially when I didn't take it. I screamed and cried more at night and during the day and at school. These increased the punishment I received and the isolation. The biggest punishment I got has a hand to the face and being locked in the closet. I didn't mind the isolation... I got to read a lot that way. I stayed close to the other boys I knew weren't a danger to me. Most of them were mutants, too. They became like my brothers... they looked out for me." Sable explained.

Maddie nodded, horrified at what the girl had been through but knowing it was like that. "Did you decide to leave?"

Sable nodded, "Most the kids ran away, and usually when they did, no one went looking for them. It was harder on the streets, especially for the normies. Without abilities it made obtaining enough money to keep them fed harder. Girls became hookers and strippers, men became gang members and drug dealers." Sable explained, "A bunch of my friends left to join the mutant street rats when they were about 12-14. I was almost 9 at the time and once they left... things got really bad. I was alone." Sable got quiet for a little bit, remembering, "They started to leave me presents, snacks, and money to show me what life was like with the gang. It sounded good. You got food, shelter, and you even got to make and save your own money. The freedom and independence was enticing... but not as enticing as the kinship shared by members." Sable smiled, "One day I was walking home from school and I was attacked by this guy... I guess he had been stalking me for a while, following me home, but I had always been with the boys... this time I wasn't. He followed me into this basement of an abandoned book factory I had fixed up to be my quiet reading place. He was some kind of pedophile creep." Sable grinned, "Let's just say it didn't end well for him." her emotional shield rejuvenating as she spoke.

Maddie grinned. "I bet not. You should have seen the look on Karen's face just now. She was terrified. The whole floor shook beneath her. I think foggy was pretty shaken up too." Maddie shook her head. "I wish I had power like that. It'd be so helpful. Especially at the hospital. To walk through walls would be great. Less walking." She chuckled.

"It's actually really dangerous... I just destroyed the integrity of that wall... It's going to need to be replaced at some point before it crumbles. Could take days, weeks, or months." Sable shrugged, "I just see thing... Differently... When I turn it on I see things not as concrete forms, but as pieces of something... thousands of millions of little pieces that can be moved around like magnets on a refrigerator." Sable explained, "Sometimes it's hard to get things back to the way they were after messing with the structure."

"You separate things at the molecular level? You can see the atoms?" Maddie asked, eyes widened with shock.

"Yeah... I guess so. That's what it must be. I used to read books about it when I was younger. I was just trying to understand it... But I haven't been to school since 5th grade so I've been on my own. I think I've done I pretty good job ubderstanding physical science." Sable explained standing up and brushing small pieces of rubble off of her body from the wall.

"That's incredible. and yes very dangerous. You're right to keep such tight wraps on your power." She said, getting up from the wall. "Ready to go tell on Piper?" She asked with a grin.

"I never showed anyone the extent of my power... But Piper knew what I was capable of... That's partly why he clung to me, and how I made him lot's of money... Well also my looks contributed to that." She laughed wiping her nose with her forearm, "I'm ready."

Maddie smiled and walked the girl inside, sitting down at the conference table. she motioned for sable to take the seat next to her. Matt sat opposite them, and foggy sat next to matt with Karen being in the corner again after she went and got the cops. They came in. "My client is ready to speak with you, but she would like to make a deal." Matt said, gesturing to sable for her to speak.
