Fantasy ~Magicborne OOC and Bants~

TheCountryWarrior TheCountryWarrior
Two things: 1) you forgot to fill out your twin application form! 2) for the purposes of the plot, we would like the twin to have the ability to harness a magic vein as well- however, perhaps she was a late bloomer and was teased for a good chunk of her life (to stay consistent with your current backstory)
Yeah, I had a busy day and more or less forgot. I'll get that done when I can. As for the twin, I'll fix that too.

Questions Galore! :D
Sorry guys - timezones are not my friend! Let me whizz through what's been asked...

SkyGinge SkyGinge

I know remembering you saying that you could potentially have more then one magic right? If that's so I'd have one magic vein and the other would be not so effective since it isn't a magic vein? Sorry if I'm not making sense.

Idea Idea and Semblance Semblance have already covered this in my absence, but just to clarify, veins are simply the names for the different types/categories of magic! Whilst theoretically everybody is able to use every vein, it's incredibly weak and inefficient unless you specialise, and so everybody, even the most powerful magicians, specialise in one vein.

Will some knowledge of coding be required? And how does one operate the stat blocks on the Character page? Semblance Semblance

Sorry about that - for some reason I thought merely copy and pasting the entire thing would work (#absolutecodingnoob). For anybody unsure about how to get the stats stuff to work, Semblance's kind breakdown of it should work for now, and I'll change up the form so that that section is in base code form so that all you have to do is copy and paste it over!

Also what age would it appropriate for the surfacing of magic for our characters?

Good question - me and Semblance are still discussing it but certainly they wouldn't be trained properly in it until puberty, where it's standard law and order for everybody to be trained in the basics for safety's sake.

Also, the dark energy-based attacks, much to note on how the energy itself affects others, as well as how it is used to attack? Orbs of energy, shards, or would that be the mage's choice?

Whilst the form of the attacks was left purposely vague for creativity purposes, I should clarify the attacks themselves would only have the affect of hurting/damaging people, as opposed to inducing any secondary effects like fear and mental stuff. Sorry about that, I should have been a bit more specific!

Actually, on that topic! While characters will not be brought in as Vampyres due to the self-destruction involved, might they end up going down such a path via RP while remaining playable? Likely to result in their death shortly after, I could see such an act being a fairly interesting side-story/battle if it ever came down to that.

That's a pretty awesome idea for a subplot! To answer TheCountryWarrior TheCountryWarrior as well, I think people would generally know of Vampyrism without necessarily knowing what it is, especially people like our humble rural villagers. So it would be fascinating to see a character (maybe yours Synder seeing as you suggested/baggsied/dibsed it!) study up on Vampyrism later and accidentally fall foul of it, only to have to struggle with their own desires whilst hiding it from the rest of the group. Probably wouldn't end well for them in the end, but it'd be fascinating to play out!

Ooooh, this definitely makes for a fun time. Any physical traits to take note of, or are they all fairly similar in looks? As well, how long has the war between Meridania and Nortalis been raging? I'm hoping to have brought in the family juuust before the war, though that would be dependent on the timeline.

Again apologies on my part, as I did include some information about the war... but it's under King Auxis' NPC character form, which is not particularly helpful for people trying to find it! So I'll make it a bit more public in the lore section with a bit more information. The current war has been going on for about twenty five years, but there have been previous wars historically and the relationship between the two nations has basically always been frosty at best.

Do magical items (rings, staves, etc) stack? If I were to hold a staff, wear a ring, and wear more magical equipment would it stack and reduce the amount of magic used?

Nope - I'm gonna have to correct you on a fair bit of stuff here which comes from not quite reading the magic section properly. Firstly, the items in themselves aren't magical - they are worn/used simply for the purpose of channeling the magic through so as the displace the intense exhaustion which the magician would otherwise suffer from into an eternal item. Given you're channeling it into a specific item, they wouldn't stack. Obviously though you could wear like five rings so that you have back-ups and aren't having to bring out new rings every ten minutes. But fundamentally it's not about reducing the amount of magic used, just displacing the strain onto an object - that's why the long term affects of more exhaustive magic usage aren't affected by channeling! Hopefully that's clear.

Another question, while I am finishing up my dude. How detailed do you want to the twin applications to be?

Hopefully my character forms later will be a helpful example of this! But one thing just to make doubly clear is that you do not need stats for the twin. For reasons both practical and plot-related...

I think that just about covers it! Amazing to see so much interest! :D I hope to post my sheets later on today, which should hopefully provide a good basis of the kind of detail we're expecting from a character sheet. As a general, if you find yourself with a bulk of questions, it might be easier just to PM me as that'll save everybody from being notified from it (I can then still share any answers with everybody via updates and whatnot!) In the mean time, I'll add all these answers to their relevant sections and also to an FAQ at the start of the post so that nobody misses out on the details, and I'll get to work on looking through the submissions we have so far in a couple of hours!

Updates!
  • Updated the character form to make the stats section in raw, succulent code. Should now be easier to complete that section!
  • Added an answered questions section to the start of this thread!
  • Added in certain details to answered questions into their relevant threads, including a new paragraph on the war and Seer Crisis in the Further Lore section!

Oh man, good to see the Sky back in action.
At the risk of revealing a power of one of the bad guys, is it possible to reverse Sanitigion to essentially strengthen yourself? Not quite a Vampyre obviously. But imagine for example, a fighter with a seemingly incredibly high life force/vitality, because they absorbed the "life" of their foes who become decrepit shrivelled things after.

PicaPirate PicaPirate : It's good to see the PicaPirate back also! (though I miss your old profile pick with the pirate Pikachu :( though on the plus side, yay, gingerness!). Good question, and that's given me some good ideas also! For the majority of Sanitigion magicians, they'd only be able to heal things and not weaken others in order to strengthen themselves, but for the very powerful I think they would be able to use the reverse and weaken people to strengthen themselves, though with consequences in that they themselves will almost certainly find themselves physically weaker when they've done with the magic. Maybe at a minimum stat value of six in aptitude they'd be able to do this very marginally, though only by 8/9 is it really all that powerful.

On another note, Shireling Shireling when you do eventually check this out we're gonna need to discuss how to handle the stats with your soldier character, as technically a trained soldier would understandably have far better combat stats than the RP's standard just-below-average inexperienced characters. I have a few ideas for a potential workaround, so just PM me when you see this and we can talk!

Another Update!
  • I've added a little bit more detail to the character form, just prompting people to include the character's current profession in their backstory, a little more detail in the acquaintances section, and a new section called Link to RPing Sample just as a point of reference!
  • I've added a bit of clarification to the Sanitigion part of the Magic Section following my above comments, alongside adding a bit more clarity on the way magic tutelage works.
  • In the wake of characters beginning to be submitted, I've added my customary character database. Basically because I love stats... but anyway, it'll include all the accepted characters along with some details about them such as their stats, weaponry and magic vein!

Okay. I'm ready to talk whenever you are.

almost done! Sorry guys, a lot of family and friend stuff came up all of the sudden, which I had forgotten about...

Oh, and if anyone is worried about the gender and pairings, no worries, I´m making two girls anyway

Unfortunately, I've ran out of time to finish my character forms tonight, but rest assured they'll be up tomorrow for your viewing pleasure! In the mean time, please continue to ask questions and submit stuff, and I'll see to it in the morning! For now though, it's time for me to do this:

R u the pregnant lady??

I'm not sure if it's just me, but on the map and further lore section, the map image is broken.

In my sleep-addled stupor, I'll dump some character-specific questions for the morning:

What are the deets on Protectors, regarding how they're selected—what processes are undergone or what qualifications are required to become one—, if there is a hierarchy, like there being cadets under deputies, and how much are Protectors in the know about, for example, the fates of whom they arrest?

Is there a vein that could encompass hammerspace, essentially pockets of unnatural storage space?

Because I'm presently on hold for the other roleplay I'm participating in, could I make a narrative out of my character's history to account for the roleplay sample instead?

It's working fine on my side, can anybody else confirm? D:

Good question! Becoming a protector would involved going to a kind of academy/training place getting people fine with the basics of what they need to do as a Protector. The exact specifics of this training stuff is up to your creative liberty, but the basic idea is that they exist to police and keep a watchful eye on unlawful magic, so they themselves are normally outfitted with some basic-level Mananite armour and trained to an extent in combat and how to apprehend rogues. There'd be a kind of hierarchy, with senior Protectors in higher positions of power and whatnot. For all but the highest level of Protectors though they wouldn't know exactly what happens with the apprehended criminals, only that they get first taken to a completely different department in Salarch before whatever happens next, and that those who are released from their imprisonment are uniformally quiet about their experiences...

If you're character's a Protector they'd probably also have higher stats than normal to start with, so I might need to discuss with you the same special measures I've done with Shireling.

Is there a vein that could encompass hammerspace, essentially pockets of unnatural storage space?

If it's not under any of the details in the magic section, then the answer is nope!

Because I'm presently on hold for the other roleplay I'm participating in, could I make a narrative out of my character's history to account for the roleplay sample instead?

Has that roleplay started? The idea is to simply get a snapshot of how you normally RP, which doesn't quite work the same in just a writing sample itself. If not, don't worry about it as you're relatively new to the site :)

SkyGinge SkyGinge
Oh no, but where is he going to keep all his booombs
I'll have to find a way

Regarding Protectors: that's interesting! I'm glad they're open for players to get involved in. I was actually considering my main character's twin would have been training to become one—so successfully passed into an academy—but was sent back home for... unsavory reasons.

But yeah, I'm on hold, so I'm unsure of when I'll be up to bat; I'm waiting for the other GM to get his post up before I sidle in. If I can just skip it altogether too, that'd be perfectly fine! Haha. I'll strive to do something interesting with my history section nonetheless; I've been inspired.

Reagrding the pockets of unnatural storage space, correct if I´m wrong SkyGinge SkyGinge Semblance Semblance , but I do believe it might be possible with spatial magic. It does offer up the possibility of teleporting other things than yourself and reduce gravity. Maybe they could have like, a giant bag in which gravity is reduced to near zero, making everything super easy to carry, or maybe an item which was made in such a way as to aid the strain enough that they could teleport items in or out a foreign storage space, like a barn in an abandoned village somewhere or something of that sort.

Idea Idea
Ayy, that's a fun idea, Idea. Ahaha. But I do love the idea of applying spatial magic to a set of possessions, creating an illusion of weightlessness. Having a "base" to teleport to also has the potential to be incredibly adorable—"This is the clubhouse my twin and I used to play in when we were kids!"

To be honest, I'm also considering a character with the potential to adopt a vein of mastery over the course of the adventure, someone untutored with the potential to fill in any holes within the group dynamic, though of course dependent on what tribulations would force him to tap into a certain potential.

So, just my quick little introduction form!
Brief Introduction:
So, I am Black Masquerade but most people just call me Black. I'll be working full time pretty quickly here, so my time will be rigidly set during certain times of the day (work place doesn't have wifi...). That being said I will have more than enough time to participate in this properly. : )
Brief RP Experience:
I started at the beginning of high school as a form of escapism and now I am entering university. During this time I have hosted some rps, but not a ton and have been part of dozens. I would say I am a pretty good writer but I can still improve (which was the originally the big reason I joined rpn).
Ideal Sandwich:
Classic PB+J!
Country and Timezone:
Canada, Central timezone

Just lemme know if you want our characters to pals : 3.

The problem with that is firstly that in order to change the gravity of something that's not yourself, you'd need to be touching it, and secondly that it'd be a pretty hefty-nigh constant strain just to keep it going for more than like an hour. Teleportation is only really a thing is fairly small distances too :)

Idea Idea and SilverFlight SilverFlight I'm just popping briefly on now and am about to head back to church, but when I get back I probably won't have time to look at your character's tonight as I'll be trying to finally finish up my own form! But rest assured, I'll have you both PMed tomorrow :)

No worries at all, there's still plenty of time ^^

If it's not too much of a hassle, could you at least tell me if I missed anything from the form? When you get back, of course

Almost forgot about this:

Brief Introduction:
Name's Silver, I can draw a bit, and write a bit and love doing both. Definitely a high fantasy fan and a true lover of the old tales, from myths to fables. In terms of writing I very much like stepping outside my comfort zone and am always willing to try new things.

Brief RP Experience: I've been writing for a little while with the specific focus of improving every aspect: from character development to world building to plot writing. My current focus is character devo. I've run my fair share of threads and written in more than I can likely count. RpN has been my home for about three years now.

Ideal Sandwich: Levity and wit between two thick slices of well-toasted good humour.

Country and Timezone: UTC +1, an hour ahead of UK.
