Magic For Sale

"I can walk..." She made a small protest, but a yawn in the middle of her sentence ruined it. Despite her words she cuddled closer to him, letting out a small sigh as she reassured herself that he was real. Every night she had terrible dreams, nightmares that tortured her. Dreams where Adel was never real. Dreams where she wasn't his partner and it was all a sick joke. Dreams where she was cast out and left to wander the world, eternally alone. Could you blame her for being scared of loneliness?

"I'm sure you can." A low chuckle, and then he was out the door. He quickly brought her into his room, figuring the more things that would remind her of him the better, and gently placed her onto the bed. He then covered her, sat down next to the bed, and just talked. It wasn't anything important, he just went on about how he found her, figuring that his voice, calm and low, might also help. Telling her of his constant scouring of the world for Dragons, for anything that might be connected to him, how he found out about the auction, him getting Tsukino's permission, always hiding from Ymir what he was planning on doing. Anything to keep his voice in the room.

She didn't dream. A low, soothing melody kept her from nightmares, not allowing the terrors of her mind to attack her. Soft and steady, she let this melody continue on until she woke up with a soft sigh. She had curled up into a ball under the covers, having even her head underneath the blanket. The darkness soothed her, as did the heat. It reminded her of the fire that burned within her. A small sigh and she poked her head up, shaking the blanket off so she could look around. Only when she saw Adel sitting nearby did she finally take a deep breath and wake up. "I'm sorry." A low apology, for what she wasn't sure.

His voice had, at some point, grown scratchy and hoarse, so he just stopped talking and nodded to her. Then he smiled, pulled her into another hug, and had the grace to look almost apologetically at her. He tried pantomiming that he was sorry she'd been alone with Tsukino, but well... he'd never been good at charades. It turned out looking more like a flailing of fingers in odd shapes that in the end had nothing to do with the intended message.

Adenyyd just blinked at him for a minute, her sleep-befuddled mind trying to make sense of his modern art with fingers. Was that... A horse? She tilted her head to the side, blinked again, and decided, no. It was a bird. With four legs. Or a Pegasus? Another blink and the shape of his fingers had changed to... A rhino?! No, a unicorn! She tried to suppress her laughter but couldn't help it, dissolving into giggles as she shook helplessly. "I can do it too!" She said, forming a fist and then sticking out her pinky and index finger. "Its a bull with uneven horns!" She announced, trying to keep a straight face.

Adel chuckled. Well, that wasn't what he had meant to say, but it got her in a good mood, so all is well that ends so! Making use of the... well, of his hand's penchant for making abstract things he altered the shapes, sometimes bringing his hands together in an 8-legged horse shape, or others in a couple of letters.

It was like when she was a little child and would use her darkness magic to make little toys for her to play with. In fact, she did that now, delighting in mimicking the shape Adel made with his fingers, except using her shadows instead. And then when she was finished, she would put them on the ground or in the air and they would move, almost as though they were real. They even made friends, as the dog and the wolf she made sniffed butts and the eagle and the hawk flew together. Adenyyd was cheerfully laughing and giggling, feeling more carefree then she had in a very, very, long time.

She's enjoying herself.... I... this is actually really cute. He tried to think of any non-combat spells he could do to keep playing with her, not wanting the moment to end. Because as soon as it did she'd probably go back to being the scared little... husk of a woman. Right now she was a happy girl who was enjoying life... so he made little flame constructs, fiery horses or ember birds... one of them was even a fake pheonix.

This was, quite honestly, one of the best moments in her life, second only to shifting for the first time and learning that she was Adel's partner. However, as everyone knows, good times can't last. Slowly Adenyyd grew quieter, although the grin never really left her face. "Thank you, Adel. Thank you for everything." She said softly, trying to convey all the things she couldn't, didn't dare to say. She placed her hand over his for a long moment, before her cheeks tinged pink and she took it back, looking at the ground.

She... on his hand... and what? Why? He managed to croak out a "You're welcome..." He sounded confused, and his throat's scratchiness made him sound like he was on a broken speaker or something. So, for the most part he tried not to talk, instead kind of nuzzling the top of her head, trying to convey that it was a pleasure, whatever she was thanking him for. After all, she'd already done more for him than he would ever be able to return.

She blushed a bit more at the nuzzling but her mind was more occupied with something else. "Does your throat hurt?" She frowned slightly. "I can use the healing spell I created earlier, but that takes a lot of energy from me..." Grabbing Adel's hand, she stood up with a smile. "Traditional home remedies it is! Don't worry, Adel, I'll make your throat feel better right away!"And with that she led him out of the room and down the hallway, towards the kitchen.

And now he was being dragged to the kitchen, trying to keep up with the suddenly energetic girl. And yeah, he wanted his throat to be better so he could talk again, but that wasn't normally done quickly. And how could it be without magic? Wow, she was tugging on his hand again...

"Well, it won't be right away..." She lost some of her enthusiasm as she approached the kitchen, not wanting to make it sound like an instant cure. "You'll probably have to do it twice, maybe even a third time just to make sure." She busier herself with making the remedy, not allowing Adel to look at what she was doing. "Go sit at the table, it'll be ready in a few minutes!" And indeed, a few minutes later She was sliding a hot cup into his hand. "It's just milk with honey!" She announced proudly.

He blinked, sat down while she made it, and watched the drink suspiciously. Milk had never agreed with his tastebuds... but now he took a drink. And down it went, eyes widening... the honey made a huge difference? Or was it the fact that it was hot. Oh dear, that was good... and it really did help. Not that it was perfect, but it didn't hurt nearly as much... a smile spread across his mouth.

"I wasn't sure what herbs you have here, so I didn't add any, but if you could show me what you have, then I can make the next cup much better!" Adenyyd said eagerly, wanting to make sure that Adel liked it, and was feeling better. She liked the fact that she could actually do something to help him, as opposed to just making trouble like what had happened with Aria earlier. OH! "Do you know how Aria is feeling? Is she healed?" She asked quickly, sitting down at the table across from him.

"Maybe..." Still not 100%, but at least it's better than before. His brother, if he'd done anything before hugging Adenyyd, would be able to fix Aria. So Adel beleived. Unfortunately that meant that Tsukino, who put's cute before duty, probably hadn't gotten to it until after they'd left... rumbling of his stomach, but he answered her other question "We have most normal, used-for-the-kitchen herbs, and... wormrot I think?"

"Okay then, I hope you don't mind if I use some of them." She said in response to the herbs he listed out, already planning out the various medicinal remedies she could make. Then her stomach growled and she flushed with color. "Ah... I may be a bit hungry." She admitted, looking down. "Is it alright if I cook something? Oh, and will you be eating as well? If so I'll have to cook two portions." She murmured the last words to herself as her mind now immersed itself in the intricacies of the dishes she could make.

"Please?" He hadn't realized how hungry he'd gotten... and he was sure they'd missed dinner the night before. And now what to do. Could he help? Except every time he tried... and cue him just laying on a seat and resting his head against the table. No, he would not think about his brother's habits. Nope.

With a small hum, Adenyyd decided on the dish she was going to make. It was very simple, but very satisfying. "Pancakes!" She sang out, preparing the batter. With a glance at Adel, she asked. "What kind of pancakes do you like? Anything in particular? What about toppings? I know a really good recipe involving maple syrup!" Now she was getting into it, humming as she started to cook in earnest. Cooking was an escape that she had used in the past, when things got to hard. Now she was able to share it with the person who saved her.

SHe... really liked cooking, didn't she? Another drink of the milk and he attempted to say, sounding apologetic even under the rasping of his current voice, "I've never had pancakes." Wonder what they were like? He'd only ever had things like eggs or rice for breakfast... sometimes toast, but he usually exploded the toaster. So it would be interesting to taste whatever she would make in the future.

She actually stopped her cooking to stare at him in shock. "You've... Never had pancakes?" Her tone was low and almost sympathetic as she returned to her cooking with renewed fevor. "Don't worry, Adel, I'm going to make the best pancakes in the world!" She said this as though speaking to a child who had been denied toys for most of his life. "I'll have to make a different dish every morning just so you can try new things." She murmured to herself thoughtfully.

He slowly turned pink as she looked at him, covering it up as best he could with a drink again. "N-not much good at cooking breakfast, myself. I'm better at dinner... mainly meat." Lots and lots of meat. In fact, he had a plan for dinner that night, and he would try to get her to let him do it... because he'd been wanting steak for a while! And then she'd get to taste some of his cooking. Actually, what if she didn't like his cooking?

"Here you go~" Adenyyd sang as she flipped the last pancake onto the plate and set it down before Adel. She quickly placed some fruits and maple syrup on the table next to him just in case he wanted it. Then she placed her mouth next to his ear. "I hope you like it Adel, I made it specially for you~" She whispered to him, remembering the amusement that teasing Adel provided with her.

True to form he turned red, jumped, and nearly toppled the bowl of fruit. She just... again... and... he... brainmeltdown. Restart. Now looking like a strawberry, one of which had somehow managed to fall on his forehead without the rest of the fruit ever moving, he started to mumble something along the lines of "At least she's feeling better, right?" He then sat up on the chair again, looking absolutely mortified, and silently started eating.

He wasn't silent for long. Sounds of approval came from him as he started eating. This was much better than exploded-toaster-burnt-toast.

Adenyyd couldn't help but snicker at Adel's reaction, even as she tried to keep her mirth to herself. However, She did smile proudly when it was clear he enjoyed her cooking. It was a skill She took pride in, regardless of her other insecurities, mainly because... Well, mainly because She knew what it was like to go hungry and she didn't want to feel like that ever again. But a quick shake of The head to get rid of the dark thoughts and she was back to smiling at Adel.
